SAN FRANCISCO - Army medical examiners were suspicious about the close proximity of the three bullet holes in Pat Tillman's forehead and tried without success to get authorities to investigate whether the former NFL player's death amounted to a crime, according to documents obtained by The Associated Press.

"The medical evidence did not match up with the, with the scenario as described," a doctor who examined Tillman's body after he was killed on the battlefield in Afghanistan in 2004 told investigators.

The doctors — whose names were blacked out — said that the bullet holes were so close together that it appeared the Army Ranger was cut down by an M-16 fired from a mere 10 yards or so away.

Ultimately, the Pentagon did conduct a criminal investigation, and asked Tillman's comrades whether he was disliked by his men and whether they had any reason to believe he was deliberately killed. The Pentagon eventually ruled that Tillman's death at the hands of his comrades was a friendly-fire accident.

The medical examiners' suspicions were outlined in 2,300 pages of testimony released to the AP this week by the Defense Department in response to a Freedom of Information Act request.

Among other information contained in the documents:

• In his last words moments before he was killed, Tillman snapped at a panicky comrade under fire to shut up and stop "sniveling."

• Army attorneys sent each other congratulatory e-mails for keeping criminal investigators at bay as the Army conducted an internal friendly-fire investigation that resulted in administrative, or non-criminal, punishments.

Wow, read this last bit. They are evil people. Worse then gangbangers. The only hope is when a revolution comes the first people killed are by past traditions are lawyers.

The Real Departed-James "Whitey" Bulger is still wanted and on the lam.

The case is only the latest to highlight the cozy relationship Boston mobsters enjoyed with FBI agents for decades.

Gov't to Pay $102M for Mob Convictions

BOSTON - In a stinging rebuke of the FBI, a federal judge on Thursday ordered the government to pay a record judgment of nearly $102 million because agents withheld evidence that would have kept four men from spending decades in prison for a mob murder they did not commit.

When I was a Recruit/PPO:
1) I thought being a Field Lt was the best job on this Department.

2) You needed a phone call to get to get into 001 or 018 or Gangs West now SOS

3) You didnt just walk into the WC's office unless invited. If you were- it wasnt good.

4)The Desk Sgt was an old cranky(on a good day) gray haired man, and a miserable prick on the bad days.

5) The desk crew had about solid gray hair, and about 150 years total. When new people PPO's walked in you heard that they had more time IOD, on medical, on the station toliet etc than you had on the job.

Fast Forward 20 years, Now in the KMA club and my how things have changed.
1) Whats a Field LT? Now the best job in the Dept is working a Beat Car in the Ghetto. How the HELL did that happen?

2) Zone 4? Dispatcher mumbles most of the time. 001 is no joy to work in cause Im there, and 018? Thats the new shit hole place to work if you ask me. 1820H? PLEASE JUST SHUT UP. OH BY THE WAY you need a phone call to get out of SOS.

3) Since when do you bring Starbucks to the WC, and hangout and BS?

4) Now the Desk Sgt is the Sgt with the least senority or the one that is on the way up and needs the experience in the district for the resume.

5)Now the desk crew has gel'd, Highlighted, Corn Rowed hair. Remember the old Haircut Standard poster? Desk Crews now consist of <3 year war story telling females whose stories consist of Tales from the academy. Total Time on the job...10 years total.

Yes times have changed but I still have a blast. Probably gonna stick around and see what changes in the next 10 years. Thanks to all my fellow blue shirts. Its been FUN and I wouldnt trade the friendships made for anything in the world.

BOYCOTT BP!!!

REFUSE TO PURCHASE ANY GASOLINE FROM THESE TOXIC DUMPERS, IT'S OUR DRINKING WATER

BP IS THE 8TH LARGEST CORPORATION IN THE WORLD

First BP applies for a permit to dump 6,500 pounds of toxic sludge a day into Lake Michigan, now we find out that, they are and have been dumping MERCURY into the lake.

BP puts 2 pounds of mercury into the lake every year from its sprawling plant 3 miles southeast of Chicago in Whiting, Ind.
The BP refinery and a power plant in nearby Chesterton, Ind., are the only two industrial polluters that still dump mercury directly into Lake Michigan, federal records show.

Mercury builds up in the environment and is so toxic that even tiny drops can threaten fish and people.

THERE IS NO EFFECTIVE WAY TO REMOVE MERCURY FROM WATER ONCE IT IS IN THERE.

It was mentioned that Charles Williams and Richie Daley had a 15 minute conversation about who will be the next Superintendent.

It is even possible for these two midgets to have an intelligent conversation.

Williams has the advantage of height, or lack of it. He is the only one of the three that can look the mayor in the eye and not get a crick in the neck. Maybe the conversation was short because Williams swore that he would continue to drive the personnel and the morale of the department to even greater more depths. That is what Richie wants, someone who will keep the budget in line, the murders out of the news, and be available to blame when the big one hits.

For the guy with the medical question. It's not a big deal, the hospital just hasn't sent the insurance company all the information that they need. Once all the info is received it will be reviewed and changed. Just give them a call and they should explain the same to you. They sent you a denial, because there wasn't a pre-certification done. Since it was an emergency situation, they are supposed to be notified within 24hrs and the hospital should take care of that.

My morale is so low. The 10 o'clock news on every major station showed a bunch of yuppies who allegedly were beat up by police. It of course is a bullshit lawsuit riding off the recent public hatred of our department but will this bashing ever end? When I get back from furlough I am going to do what the oldtimers do. I am going to avoid the public all together. This city sucks and all they do is continue to treat its P.O.'s like dogshit. Be safe.

Five years ago, I would have burned 8 of my own hours to stand by you guys in your struggle for better wages. But times have changed. Behind the media, you are next in line to monday morning quarterback the actions of the police. Well guess what, you can't have it both ways. You have made your decision, now stick by it. You have decided we are not on the same side anymore. I know this doesn't apply when we are the a/o's in your case, because you need the conviction. But, the minute it is not to your advantage to stick by us, we are deserted. Payback is a bitch.
But, there is always a silver lining. Hopefully you will realize that we are in this together. The public does not like either of us. They don't want people locking them up and they don't want people prosecuting them. Realize it and fix the relationship between us or stand on your own!

***************************

I had the same situation. I was taken to the ER in an ambulance after chest pains. All turned out ok, but the bill was kicked to me because I did not get the "visit" pre-approved. I was a bit preoccupied while in the ambulance, as you might expect, didn't have time to call. Go figure. At any rate it took a couple of phone calls to the Hosp, to get them to send proof that I was an ER admit. Then encompass told Blue Cross to pay it, and they did (minus deductible). A bit of a pain in the ass but it worked out ok. Call encompass first, get a fax number or an address, then call the hosp and ask them to forward the documents to encompass. Encompass then notifies BCBS. Good Luck

This is very interesting, in light of the recent posts concerning deceased PO's.

The NYPD has a Ceremonial Unit that function as pall bearers at retired/deceased PO's funerals if requested by the family.

That is a very classy touch and a nice salute to a deceased brother. In Chicago it is sometimes not possible to get a squad car escort for a deceased police officer.

This is something that the new Superintendent might consider implementing.

This is getting to be absolutely ridiculous, every goof that gets locked up will soon be alleging they were lumped and filing suit. A3 is now getting its turn in the barrel.

Brutality? Is this the face of police?
Man says his cell phone camera shows proof he, pals were beaten by cops in street

The defendants include Detective John Sebeck, who was suspended for nine months in 2000 after the Police Board rejected then-Supt. Terry Hillard's request to fire him for beating a 72-year-old man who rear-ended his car while Sebeck was off-duty.

"There is no merit to this," Sebeck said of Thursday's lawsuit. "They're just jumping on the bandwagon to file a lawsuit. You know how they file frivolous lawsuits. It's a sign of the times. I recall the incident, but I just don't recall the merits of it."

It is about time the media is picking up on the decline of the Scottsdale neighborhood and the racial tension building there. I AM ACTUALLY SURPRISED THE MEDIA PICKED UP ON THIS.

Durkin Park was the tip of the iceberg, wait until the bangers set up shop there and start pitching, shootings will be next. They play the crime numbers down in the article and paint it as more of an issue of white flight and changing demographics.

Has Scottsdale reached the tipping point?
Southwest side | After the recent violence in Durkin Park, residents from different ethnic backgrounds wonder if the neighborhood will change forever

For generations of white folks who grew up there, Scottsdale just might become "the old neighborhood," like Roseland and South Shore and Back of the Yards before it.

Around Durkin Park -- where brawling teenagers divided by race rumbled over God-knows-what and sent one kid to the hospital -- I chatted with folks about whether racial tensions have made their neighborhood a little less comfortable these days

Violent crime is down, auto thefts are down. There hasn't been a murder in the police beat surrounding the park in quite some time. But between January and June, there were more burglaries and robberies and thefts than during the same period last year, according to police records.

Being against crime and violence isn't the same as being racist, a white guy who lives across the street from the park told me.

"I've lived in this neighborhood my whole life. My block is fairly racially mixed and we all, mostly, get along," says the white guy who wouldn't give his name because he works for the city and didn't want to get "jammed up."

THINK HE MIGHT BE A PO?

It puts the For Sale signs that dot so many blocks in Scottsdale where 120 properties are currently on the market in a whole new light

Sue the police season continues:

Father sues police over son's shooting

The father of a 14-year-old boy shot in the arm by a Chicago police officer in a foot chase on the South Side this month filed a lawsuit Thursday accusing the officer of reckless disregard. The boy, Kentrell Reese, was wounded in the arm and hip. At the time of the July 16 shooting, police said it appeared that the unnamed officer "unintentionally discharged the weapon in fear of his life."

To Mr. "Five Years Ago" at 7/27/2007 12:36:00 AM:

Obviously, something has happened in the interim five years to leave you with distaste for ASA's. Let me assure you, not all ASA's work against the police. In fact, I'd be willing to bet my measly paycheck that 98% of all ASA's will go to bat for a PO any day. With regard to the recent chargings of alleged police beatings, one must remember that we, like you, are subjected to intense media scrutiny and sometimes tough (re: perceived bullshit) decisions have to be made. That being said, let me be clear: this is NOT an issue of "us vs. you." We're in this together. Without you, we have no scumbags to prosecute; without us, your hard work is futile at best. If you don't want to support us in a fight for COST OF LIVING raises (not just arbitrary raises for the sake of getting paid more, but raises that should naturally occur) that's fine - it's your decision. But please labor under the delusion no longer that ASA's are out to "get" CPD. When an officer goes down, no one works harder for you guys to secure a conviction than us.

All that being said, please consider joining us in our rally this Sunday. We are definitely get screwed by the Toddler and could use some support. It won't be forgotten.

As an attorney, I can tell you with all certainty that those new attorneys hired by Jenner & Block are the cream of the crop. They graduated at the very top of their law class, are operating at the genius level of intelligence, and are worth the money they are being paid. Their job is not easy though. They will work a minimum of 80-90 hours a week and suffer a miserable existence for many years. Its the price one pays for an equity partnership.

That being said, there is a reason attorneys take jobs as assistant state's attorneys and corporation counsels. And, despite their often cited reason for taking said employment, its not for the trial experience. The cold, plain and simple reason for taking such a low paying job out of law school is they they could not find a better paying job with a private firm. They most likely graduated at the middle or bottom of their class and were unable to find gainful employment. You see, good firms snap up all the top law students way before the actual graduation.

So, next time you're dealing with a state's attorney or being represented by a corporation counsel, remember that you're not dealing with the sharpest tack in the box.

- A lawyer who knows.

A county prosecutor, meanwhile, can look forward to his salary going up to $70,000 after seven years of putting bad guys behind bars.

If not for the police, ASA'S would not make a dime let alone 70k, yet they look down on most officers as if we are bottom feeders. Get off your high horse and open your eyes to the fact that when you bite the hand that feeds you sooner or later you will get hungry. Maybe then you will learn to your place.

One day sitting at the Skokie court house ASA office where all the police sit I saw a ASA walk in with a large white sign on it read 12.75%. He then posted it on the wall near the head ASA's office.

Then some copper I always see there at court yelled out What the hell is that the percentage of convictions you get out of this place?"

A newly minted, fresh-from-the-box law school graduate starts earning $160,000 a year the moment he steps his shiny loafer into his newly painted office at Jenner & Block or any other big Chicago law firm. Should he survive seven years of cutthroat office politics, and assuming he makes a little rain, that figure becomes $500,000 or more.

A county prosecutor, meanwhile, can look forward to his salary going up to $70,000 after seven years of putting bad guys behind bars.

Yeah, and a Chicago Police Officer can look forward to making $72,000 after 25 years of putting bad guys behinde bars, working six day weeks, Chicago residency, looking over your shoulder everyday, wondering when the next law suit will come and ASA's that will pile on charges for something that the average criminal will never even get charged with.
Some people on this blog say we should go protest with them, well I ask have you ever seen them go to bat for us, ever? We go 2-3 years without a contract all the time. Will they stand behinde us this time?

Just had an attack of internal bleeding. Was hospitalized as an in paient directly admitted from the ER.
I could'nt walk or talk and my BP was so low as to scare the MD in the ER.
Just got a letter from the citys medical watch dog group "encompass". They are refusing payment because my 2 day hospital stay was'nt medicaly
nessary!
Moral of the story...watch out guys, the city will try ANYTHING to not pay!
What do I do now?

That is nothing new., you or your representative (friend, wife, parent etc) should have called benefits management or encompass withing 24 hours of your admittance to the hospital through the ER... I think the same goes for outpatient surgery (or something similar), and if you are having inpatient surgery, you need to notify in advance or they won't pay... and believe me nothing you do after the fact will make them pay either... talk to union tho, they do medical grievances, but it might not do you any good if you didn't follow the "rules"
been there, done that ///

That is a very classy touch and a nice salute to a deceased brother. In Chicago it is sometimes not possible to get a squad car escort for a deceased police officer.

1. the city is cheap
2. If there was a special unit for that, I would be all for it, but it will never happen. (see number 1)
3. We are 1/3 the size or maybe 1/4 th size of NYPD, the area covered here is about 2X larger, NYPD has lots more manpower to handle this, plus they are much more into the PR situation than we are.. surprising as that might seem..
4. The big problem here is all the political hacks want an escort for their friends and relatives funerals, then everyone in the world thinks it is an entitlement, it isn't and never has been- at least not here. Hell, the funeral homes demand escorts for everyone... what else is new?

If your numbers have fallen of your star, don't go to HQ. They don't have them. Instead, get a small bottle of gloss black model paint. Take a toothpick, stick it in the paint and let a small drop of paint fall into the cavity that the number/letter is missing. Allow to dry for a couple of minutes. Then wipe off the excess.

You gotta be kidding right! While you're wishing police by your side during your protest I am seriously contemplating organizing a police protest against the Office of the States Attorney. This office is a joke and if any public officials should be charged with official misconduct its the ASAs - who continually deny charges and dismiss cases hanging coppers out to dry so that they can be sued by their defense attorney friends or lawschool buddies. Please any copper contemplating standing along side any ASA to protest, reconsider. It would be a slap in the face to all working police yesterday and today. Be loyal to your own.

The FEDS will let BP dump all this toxic shit into lake Michigan..but now want to regulate recreational boaters on the lake where engine cooling water, gray water storage, and chemical toilets are concerned.

Recreational boaters are a very small percentage where emmissions and pollution are concerned.

This new regulatory burden will cost small boat owners thousands of dollars..and hurt the recreational boat industries, costing jobs etc.

The silly thing about it is, the laws they want to use to hurt small boaters were initially drafted to force large commercial vessels (ocean going freighters) operating in the great lakes from discharging ballast tanks into freshwater lakes because it was introducing foreign species of mussels, fish, etc. that were killing off the local fish and causing major problems.

More "big brother-nanny state" knee jerk reactions from politicians is not the answer!

Felony Review sucks....But, those are the new people. They are afraid of their own shadow and can't make a decision by themselves. The State's attorney's are better. When they have to take their turn in the barrel (have to rotate in and out every once in a while as supervisors, they are MUCH< MUCH< better. There are of course exeptions to every rule, but they do deserve a raise.

If you happen to be in the area or are free, stop by and show your support. Come on, the fucking PD's make more than they do? What does that tell you? Fuck the toddler. He just wants shitty attorneys prosecuting him later on....

Shit does get denied for no reason or bullshit reasons most of the time, other times your case is shit and you think there is NO way that is going to get approved (crack head robbery) and it does. Not the fault of the ASA's most of the time, it is the Crook County Way!!!!
Show your support. They need it and so do we.
