Rescued by the First Deputy

  • The top ranking Chicago police official behind Supt. Philip Cline and another officer rescued three people this afternoon from a burning building on the far South Side, authorities said.

First Deputy Supt. Dana Starks and the other officer were treated for smoke inhalation at St. Francis Hospital and Health Center in Blue Island, and later released.

The three people rescued, two men and a woman who were approximately 40 years old, were not hurt, police said.
And let's face it - we need the good publicity regardless.

NOTE: Keep the BS to a minimum - we've taken gratuitous pot shots at the First for a long time. Doesn't mean we can't say "good job" when it happens.

Maybe the First Deputy can add that to his "Resume".

Sounds familiar though - Remember?

Didn't Cline Run up Three Flights of Stairs his first New Years as the "Soup" to apprehend a "man with a gun"?

The First Deputy Smokes Cheap Cigars, maybe he was treated for that.

Glad to see that the police treat the civilians that support us and our causes, Chicago Police Memorial Foundation, Michael P. Gordon Foundation and 100 Club of Cook County, so well. A friend of mine got a ticket the other day in 014 for a No Turn on Red, which he is guilty of, My friend overheard one of the officer point out to the other the Michael P. Gordon Foundation magnet on his car. The officer replies "so" and proceeds to issue the ticket. Wouldn't this be a great opportunity to issue a verbal warning and thank the civilian for his support...especially these days? And to those who will chime in with their "holier than tho attitude," fuck off. We still have plenty of discretion, lets exercise it.

I don't think the officers hired within the last 10 years know what the meaning of discretion is. The are writing police officers, their wives, locking PO's kids up for stupid disorderlies rather than calling mom or dad to handle the situation. Either they are just so self absorbed that they don't get it or the academy is teaching them to give no breaks to anyone. Seems this generation X (of course the college educated ones) don't have a whole lot of common sense. Has this happened 15 years ago, that officer would get his ass kicked by the officers he works with. But they do have a college education....so lets not talk to badly about them LOL LOL LOL

=================================
Two sides to every story....

Could your friend have been an uppity snot to the officer? Could he have been condescending and smug, thinking a $30 donation to some group gets him an "drive as he pleases card?"

How many times over the last 20 years have I been told to look at a decal, window sticker, a associate medallion, etc with the expectation that it will get the motorist out of a ticket? Too many. The only automatic passes I give are coppers, their immediate families and (usually) Firemen.

I will give a pass to those who show the proper deference and respect back, no matter what is on or not on their car.

To those who give The Lodge $20 and expect miracles from that BS sticker, use the $20 and get a bond card from the currency exchange.

Tell your friend to drive more carefully and not expect things.

I AGREE!! One thing we DO have left on this job is discretion. To a regular-Joe citizen who commits a minor traffic violation, but supports OUR causes should be given a pass. As long as he doesn't act like a complete ass, he should be given a pass & a THANK YOU for supporting US. USE DISCRETION!.
BE SAFE!!

I worked a detail down town, some youth concert of the world...whatever. Anyway, my partner and I were on the edge of this event guarding some bridge. Several hours into the detail a well dressed black man approached and introduced himself as 1st Deputy Stark. He asked if we had any sort of relief, water etc. We said no, he stood our post for us while we ran for a quick bite. I too read the crap written about him, but all I know is he was a stand-up guy to me. I can't think a single white exempt that would bother with such a show of concern for us lowly patrolmen. Cheers Deputy Stark, I'm a big fan!

Granted it was my fault for letting my time shrink the way it did. I called crying to Dana saying Boss I may need to change my furlo to make arrangements. Dana told me we will work it out. DON'T WORRY. My Father survived his health battle. However, I will always remember what Dana offered to do for me and my family. Dana is a class act. He does care about the troops. Thank you Dana! Ladies and gentlemen, I'd like to make something clear to those of you that may not know. The Michael P. Gordon Memorial Foundation is not a 'fund,' but is a public charity. We have two funders a year and not one dime goes to the Gordon family, but instead goes to mainly police causes, a criminal justice scholarship and a safe ride program among other things. Not one of our board members draw a salary. Not only that, but we take the time to honor deserving POs with our annual TRUE BLUE Awards which brings positive attention to a career surrounded by negative press of late. We strive to give back to the profession my brother loved.

I don't think someone should get a pass for just displaying Mike's ribbon magnet or an FOP medallion. I just want to set the record straight here. Hope to see you at our third annual TRUE BLUE Awards on Sunday, November 4. If anyone wants to see where our funds go please email me. I'd be happy to share.

Having worked for Dana in 011 and being the working police I have never had a bad experience. He took care of anyone who did their jobs. I had personal problems that I had to deal with and he was more than helpful with getting me the time to do it. I've seen him bend over backwards to take care of the working police and and for that I commend him. As far as people saying that he doesn't like white officers is a complete lie. Unless my irish heritage is a complete farce.

I personally know of him assisting all races, not just blacks. He really is a great guy. Considering the fact that I have 53 days until I am gone, you cannot say I am looking for anythig or that I am kissing his ass. Their is nothing he can do for me now. My house in Arizona with my pretty young girl is all I need, oh yeah, and a bud light.

All I would like to say is thank you (Dana) for still doing your job, keeping your head up in spite of your fucked up boss and all of his ass wipe idiot exempt supporters who disrespected you, went around the chain, and did everything they could to humiliate you. They were a real example, right? They showed all of the troops that you do not have to follow General Orders that clearly outline rank and position.

Good bye fat Phil, and that's what the fuck you get, you are retiring embarassed and humiliated. No one will remember the bullshit stats you have shoved down our throats. The only good you did is the memorial, but no one talks about the fact that this was already in motion before you even made superintedent. You were promoted far beyond your level of competence. You are not a leader, you blatently disregarded rank and stature on this department and did whatever the fuck you wanted to do. Now you are paying for it with your own life long level of humiliation. You will never get your reputation near what you had created it to be. Now how does it feel? What happened to your job? Oops, they said fuck you very much!

LOL
