Obama - Taking Candy from Babies
- Elrick Williams's toddler niece Carlyn may be one of the youngest contributors to this year's presidential campaign. The 2-year-old gave $2,300 to Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.).
So did her sister and brother, Imara, 13, and Ishmael, 9, and her cousins Chan and Alexis, both 13. Altogether, according to newly released campaign finance reports, the extended family of Williams, a wealthy Chicago financier, handed over nearly a dozen checks in March for the maximum allowed under federal law to Obama.
Such campaign donations from young children would almost certainly run afoul of campaign finance regulations, several campaign lawyers said. But as bundlers seek to raise higher and higher sums for presidential contenders this year, the number who are turning to checks from underage givers appears to be on the rise.
"It's not difficult for a banker or a trial lawyer or a hedge fund manager to come up with $2,300, and they're often left wanting to do more," said Massie Ritsch, a spokesman for the Center for Responsive Politics. "That's when they look across the dinner table at their children and see an opportunity."
Children giving money to democrats? It qualifies as Child Abuse at the very least.

How many people have donated "THEIR" money to causes in the name of another relative or friend. Their father placed the money in an account bearing the kids name, then transferred money out of those accounts to a political party. Damn, are their memory really so short...The media was falling all over some little girl back when GWB first run at the presidency, she donated the proceeds from her curbside lemon aide stand in an effort to elect GWB, standing in the background was her chestershire cat smiling parents, gloating about how proud they were that their LITTLE GIRL was showing interest in the future of the country. How about all of the Chinese dish washers who supposedly gave 1000.00 each to the Clinton Campaign? I never realized that dishwahsers made so much money.

I love how SCC cherry picked the story by only mentioning donations to Obama and not to Romney. This is happening with EVERY candidate. It's also nice how SCC fails to mention that as stated in the article the policy for the Obama campaign is that they don't accept donations from anyone under the age of 15. Hey SCC - how about posting the entire article and let your readers decide for themselves? Not all of your readers are a bunch of sheep.

I don't care about the flag pin issue that is dumb. However, Obama has proven himself (locally any way) to be just another member of the machine. Look at his support for Daley the Strogers, and other institutional political families.

What gives fellas? Why the sudden shock that Obama will take any dime he can get his hands on? Surely you don't believe it's any different in Hillary's camp, or for that matter in the camps of the Republican hacks competing with them for the role of the American Empire's Chief Manager? Let's be serious.
Until there is a credible push towards publicly funded elections that circumvent the special interest groups who represent the true constituents of "our" candidates [Big Pharma, Big Oil, Wall Street, etc] then all we shall ever see with a real shot at the White House are corporate whores like the leading candidates of both parties.
Money buys influence and access guys, that's how our plutocracy works. The deepest pockets of course are found in the corporate sector--the very sector that drives our domestic and foreign policy agendas. What a coincidence.
Isn't funny how virtually all of the leading candidates from both parties are parroting the deepest desires of our country's most powerful interest groups? For example, Social Security "reform" (Wall Street), subsidized agriculture (Monsanto Inc. et al), an "improved" privatized health care system (Big Pharma), NAFTA and other "free trade" agreements (US based multinational corporations of every stripe).
No indivdiual contributions to candidates can remotely compete for influence with the Colossus that is Big Business. Obama taking candy from babies? That's nothing compared to what he takes from Wall Street.

When I was a kid, the Presidential Election process started in the winter of the actual election year. Not two years before the actual election.
