What?

We caught this somewhere and we just couldn't believe it. So we went over to the Cook County Clerk's website and found this on the main page:
  • Cook County Clerk David Orr’s office on Monday released the 2006 property tax rates for more than 1,200 taxing agencies in Chicago and suburban Cook County.

This completes a process that started last December when each local taxing district, as required by law, filed its levy with the Clerk’s office. Each levy represents the amount of revenue an individual taxing body has requested to collect from the property tax.

Twelve hundred taxing bodies? What the hell is going on? Twelve-freaking-hundred? No wonder Toddler is missing meetings, lying through his teeth and sticking taxpayers with the biggest increases in years.

Are we misunderstanding this or are there really twelve hundred different bureaucracies with their fingers in our wallets?

The thoroughly disgusting part is: we fought a revolution over FAR fewer, and lower, taxes than anyone in the US pays today. We also fought it over far fewer laws controlling every aspect of our life including how much water can flow out of our shower nozzles.

Mistake,by bringing in an outsider. The best thing that happened to the CPD.New Cars.better pay,a beat structure, better report writing and a host of other good things that you are not aware of.
So don't be too quick to judge SCC, you wern't around and don't know the history of the CPD.Your blog is informative and a place for officers to blow off steam, but don't be quick too judge, for your history is recent.
Better that the CPD gets new leadership and newer ideas from ouside than from stale leadership from within.
I used to be proud to say that I was a Chicago Police Officer when asked what I did for a living. Now,I say I was a Social worker.
And for those few on your blog who turn a blind eye to wrong doings, they are just as guilty as their brother officers who are commiting crimes.
All this crap of we have to stick together comes from Union talk, not personal beliefs. So,SCC its history of the Department your short of. Bring in an outsider if you want change.

Every single town, every single village, park district, library district, school district, etc., etc. add up to 1200. But only the ones listed on your own tax bill are in your actual pocket.

from the county clerks point of view,

each tax increment financing (TIF) district is a "taxing body," Chicago alone has 156

each special service area (SSA) is a "taxing body," Chicago alone has about 50

I agree with tax collector! What is there not to understand!! More useless agencies and bullshit levels of government for WHAT! Look at how many different law enforcement and fire agencies between the city, suburban Cook County, and the State talk about redundancy. Do we really need Township governments in the County now that we have less unincorporated areas? What a joke and nobody seems to give a shit because the free money keeps coming.

Off topic from our brothers in New York. I thought you might be interested.
In New York they have a system thats similar to our I Pass called E Pass or Easy pass. Heres what they are doing. When you use your "E Pass and go through Toll Both A, when get to toll both B, the computer automatically checks your ID number and checks to see how long it took you. It computes the time vs. distance and can tell if you were speeding. If it detects that you covered that distance too fast it assumes you were speeding and mails you a ticket. It has not been implemented state wide because they couldn't figure out how to nail those that do not have E Pass. So what they did is imbed a chip in the state sticker attached to the license plate which accomplishes the same thing. So now that they have that little problem figured out they are in the process of expanding the system statewide. Coming to a state near you. As soon as the Democraps in Illinois hear about this from the Democraps in NY you can bet your last dollar it's on it's way here. I wonder if the ISP are aware of this? I would imagine it would help reduce their numbers. Once again, police work from a desk!

FOR PETES SAKE START VOTING REPUBLICAN.... yeah they are all in for the money but I choose the one who reduces taxes every time.
The public schools are filled with illegals and a lot of kids prone to violence. Kick em all out so that tax payers can send their kids to schools that they are paying for. Waste.. Preschoolers fed twice between 9-1130 etc....

Feed the poor, empower the ghetto and give a sucka a break.

I'm with ya Sir President! Take my dough. I was only going to spend it anyways.

Cook County has about
130 villages,
200 school districts (K-8 districts, HS districts and a few "unified"),
30 townships,
dozens of park districts,
dozens of library districts,
fire protection districts.

They probably include every TIF district in their count, since TIF districts increase the complexity of calculating the bill, even though a TIF district isn't really a taxing district.

If you think taxes are high, the choice remains -- vote the incumbents out. But I don't know whether the sheer number of tax districts changes much. If you think about it, the city has only 3 I think (city, school and park), but that hasn't exactly made it a paragon of efficiency.

The grinning fool, Todd Stroger, removed all adoubt as to his intelligence with today's speach.
He actuall said " i'm glnna skip that word" because he couldn't pronounce a word in his speach!. Is this guy seven years old or what? What a national embarrassment. He kept referring to a DESSERT of grocery stores in ceretain areas of the city and then a DESSERT of hospitals. It's desert Todd, you Jackass. but kept grinning and sweating for the entire speach. He appears to be slightly retarded.

Welcome to Crook County. I'm a lifelong resident and FORMER Democrat, thank you very much! If we don't stage a taxpayer revolution the demagogues currently running our city will eventually create a plantation system of management. I cringe at the prospect, but it is inevitable at the rate things are going. When I get elected to office I plan to be the voice of consciencentious challenge to authority. 11% taxes when the budget has not yet been figured out? Are we as stupid and malleable an electorate as they think???? Yes, children, it's time to revolt or we shall be responsible for our own demise.

See today's Matt Drudge website, "the Drudge Report.com"

It talks about U.S. Rep. Charles Rangel's(D-NY)income tax proposal. If it becomes law it will be the largest tax increase in U.S. history, ever!

The most amusing part is if you make $150,000 a year or more you pay the normal tax rate plus a 4% surtax. So you'll be paying out the ass.

But, it again gives tax refunds to the poor and underpriviledged.

To sum it up:
People in this country who pay NO TAXES,will get a TAX REFUND.

Sitting on one's ass and doing nothing in America is REALLY beginning to pay!

Now does that make any fucking sense? This is what it has come to people. I never, never thought I would live to see such...such...I don't even know what to call it. It defies logic.

We are doomed.

I'd give half my life savings to see the decapitated heads of Daley, Stroger and Blagojevich impaled on pikes next to the Picasso.

There are no good tax systems. Some just suck less than others.

I'll take Illinois with its plethora of taxing bodies. Levies from boards I can vote most or all candidates in or out of.

That's the epiphany I got by moving to California. 1978's Proposition 13 killed most property taxes. Instead, everything's funded from state income taxes through the state legislature. I get to vote for only three of them.

More waste, less control: this state is the 6th largest economy in the world and our services are for crap.
