Big Traffic

Gee, for some reason our visits really took off for Thursday. Something big must have happened.

Coverage at the Tribune, Sun Times, Channel 2, Channel 5, Channel 7.

A few points of order:
  • We've heard of a few resignations so far, Starks and Williams rumored to be the big two. Expect significant additional numbers within 90 days as people are eased out, told they are not needed or positions are eliminated.
  • As he's an outsider, expect the First to run day-to-day operations again - just like in the past. We're hearing that Grau is going to be the compromise candidate since too many pale faces might irk the reverends and Beavers.
We're willing to give this a shot. We aren't big proponents of outsiders coming in and trying to "reform" the CPD. The institutional inflexibility is going to be a very large obstacle to surmount. We'll have to see what the first changes made are before we start to render judgments.

The initial message we're getting is that no one in the entire Department was qualified to run the organization, and looking at the current crop of exempts, we're afraid that that assumption is mostly true. Given the fact that the political masters have been putting in 30% unqualified individuals in supervisory positions for well over two decades and then giving them exempt spots based on their previous ill-gotten promotions has doomed the CPD to mediocrity for years to come.

A hired gun coming in for $300K? We're having doubts already. In the meantime, suggestions for the new guy can be left in the comments section as many have already been doing in other spots. We're sure someone will forward them.

Dear Mr Civilian Superintendent,

I am not sure if you realize this but the mayor would have hired anyone with the "former FBI" title so the feds would not take over the police dept. like they did in LA. Although you do not realize this, but you are already a pawn in the mayor's game. It is good you have the name JODY because you are the mayor's new bitch!

You will be expected to be a good boy for four years, then get a better job in the private sector. You also don't realize this, but the four short years you are here will age you 10-15 when you realize you have sold your soul to the machine. I wish you the best of luck as the new PUPPET. You may even want to buy the old bosses uniform because you will be able to make four full new uniforms, including ties, from his reefer. This message is no way an insult to you, but to show you how fed up the rank and file are with the machine.

I actually hope you are working as an undercover FBI agent playing the new supt. to nail hiz honor. They will make a movie about you. I will play Seiser. Please wear a wire when meritorious selections are discussed.

Good luck and realize your sane life will never be the same.

The good news is that the new Supt said if he is going to get a 62% raise it is only fair everyone else on the job gets the same raise!

You go Supt! I love you already!

O.W. Wilson doubled the police salaries, and he was the last outsider to be top cop. So only fair this new one does the same thing!

I agree with an earlier poster that all white shirts from the top down must take the 12-minute Wonderlic 50-item multiple choice IQ test. Eventually, administer this short test to all sworn personnel.

Weis will find that many of the highest ranking officers are dumber than a box of rocks.

On the other hand, he'll find that results for some patrol officers and detectives would qualify them for Mensa membership.

One merit promotion per career if any at all..........and quit having exempts "oversee" promotion test questions. I gurantee that the suggested questions are landing in preferred exempts laps and given to people who have no business being on the job let alone getting promoted. The promotion system is broke and its because of "merit" and a lack-there-of!!!!!

For the last year we have been getting our asses kicked in the media and the FOP (Mr. Donahue and the boys)have sat on their asses and let the beatings go on. Now we have a new Sup. and all of a sudden we have a statement from the FOP. *****Mark Donahue, president of the Fraternal Order of Police, said the rank and file would have preferred someone from inside the department. This asshat can not speak for us since he decided to keep his mouth shut when we needed him most!!!!! It's time for a new union.

I haven't heard a thing but I hope Grau is #2. He's a good guy, and unlike many really thinks of his troops; he tries to lookout for them. I haven't worked for him in years but he's always been a standup guy and knowing his personality, he wants what’s best... just like the rest of us. He may be at the top, but his heart is with us... Let’s give #1 and #2 a chance. Change is inevitable and we don't have to like it, but we have to accept it. #1 is to regain public confidence and set the ship on course, #2 will call the shots. #1 won't know who to promote, rely on etc... He’ll count on #2 for that. Guys and girls remember your ethics and we'll be ok. Nothing shmo does is worth your job and your families’ future. Be the police and be proud. Give the new guy(s) a chance to prove themselves and let’s set this department back on tract!

Now that we have a "G" man to head this department, it is imperative that we make a few subtle, yet important, changes

It would behoove any aspiring officer or supervisor to familiarize themselves with the wonderful hair care product known as "Brylcreem"

Brylcreem (pronounced brill-cream) is a brand name of a men's hair grooming product. It was created in 1928 by County Chemicals at the Chemico Works in Bradford Street, Birmingham, England.

Brylcreem's purpose is to keep combed hair in place while giving it a deep shine or gloss. It is essentially an emulsion of water and mineral oil stabilised with beeswax. Other ingredients are fragrance, calcium hydroxide, BHT, dimethyl oxazolidine, magnesium sulfate, and stearic acid.

Brylcreem is sold in a tube in the US, and both tube and pot in Europe and Canada

The shiny "wet" look it gave to the hair was de rigueur for men's hair styles for many years in the 20th century. Other substances, including macassar oil and petroleum jelly, had been in use for this purpose earlier and made popular by such figures as Rudolph Valentino of silent film fame.

Brylcreem's use declined during the 1960s as men's hair fashions changed to favor the "dry look" over the "wet look". However, it has seen a comeback since the late 1990s. It is remarketed in Europe under a Ministry of Hair banner alongside companion gel and wax products in squeeze bottles, rarely sold directly alongside the traditional Brylcreem. In the US, the traditional Original Brylcreem has undergone a resurgence as a new generation discovers it.

Instructions on the use of the product state that "a little dab will do ya." What constitutes "a little dab" is subject to interpretation and desired effect. Hair length and bulk will also play into how much product to use.

There it is boys and girls. Learn it, Live it, Love it!

This is one of the most glaring reasons why the Police dept. looks stupid, people!

A Detective with an Associates Degree is no match in court against a lawyer with a law degree!

A Sergeant with an Associates degree is not capable of diffusing a situation against those that have a higher education!

I have seen situations like this and it was laughable and embarrassing to the Police dept.

ok ...so like tell me this again...
you attack the gang problem with something called "seat belt missions"?

ahh...yes,

And you get...what"s it called again, an "event number"?

yes...

Who..(his eye is starting to twitch),who actually reads these event numbers?

Oh..a..some guy named Milton,in the basement storage closet at HQ's who loves his red stapler.

okkk..interesting
So what is all this stuff I hear about PODS, has the city been invaded by aliens?

ahh...no..PODS are really...really cool cameras that we mount on a light pole and this makes all the drug dealers go away.

You're kidding right?
Who watches these cameras?

aaa...the district desk crew.

And what if they're busy?

aaa...can I get back to you on that?

Ok...so I'm looking at the manpower projections and I see an ample amount of police officers, sergeants and lieutenants, still,I heard we have a back log problem where as no officers are available for a job. Where are all these officers and supervisors?

aaaaaa...they're busy, real busy, sitting in their blue jeans,in their cubicles at HQ's and disticts... aaa...scanning the internet, minute by minute, second by second,in order to aaaa...a....sir,could someone close the curtain on that nearby window?

Ok..so let's move on to technology.
I hear our department leads the universe and Kooskia,Idaho in cutting edge technology.

Yes sir..absolutely..Yup,Yup...true dat

Why..am I hearing this, chirping sound in the radio you gave me? Is this some sort of secret morse code?

aaaa...yeah..yeah...that's it. After six hours...we have the radio programed to emit this alert to aaa..tell each officer to ..aaa.. aaa...I need some water.

Ok..I see you're getting a little stressed here..what this I'm hearing about a DOC? People are getting event numbers for the DOC. Who is the DOC?

Anonymous Anonymous said...

I called you back..because I just don't understand some of the policies of the department.
Why am I seeing officers who are assigned to inside positions wearing blue jeans every Friday? Are they going on some tactical mission?

aaa..well..sort of. Ya see..we feel that they have such stressful jobs, counting parking tickets and scanning the internet minute by minute, second by second, that they need a break and wearing blue jeans is a proven technique to rid their minds of such stressful tasks.

Yes...but doesn't the tax payer pay them a uniform allowance to buy uniforms? I'm reading the general orders and I don't see the part that gives officers permission to be out of uniform on Fridays.

Oh...we're currently updating that order.

Why do I see all the same officers on the medical? Some seem to have been on the medical half or most of their careers?

aaaa...they're a test group..yeah..we use them to test our department's manpower needs in that we see if daily district rosters can manage without hundreds of officers a day.

What exactly constitutes a "merit promotion"?

aaaa....that's currently being studied. In fact our testing process is second to none. In fact, our proven test process gives supervisors the ability to "think on their feet". They get two chances to take a promotion test.

Ok...(scratching head)let me get this straight. Supervisors, who will have to make split second decisions in the field, are given the opportunity to take a promotion test TWICE, and this will gage if they can think on their feet? The test (chuckling)is different with different questions each time of course right?

aaaa....if you don't like my answer, can I answer this question again?

Congrats to the outsider! To long the CPD has suffered from inbreeding. New modern leadership may be what this department needs to bring it into the 21st century, hopefully clout free. Under the past top cops direction the department was run like an episode from the Jerry Springer show.

I, for one, am glad that an outsider was chosen. It just proves what SCC and most of us have been saying all along: The people in charge of this department are incompetent political hacks who have no business working as a greeter at Walmart, let alone making command decision within the Chicago Police Department. Being an ex-military man myself I hope the new boss brings some professionalism and integrity back to our department, along with accountability.
However, he is in for a rude awakening. I would love to be a fly on the wall when he gets his first call from one of our illiterate gangbanger alderman telling him who to promote.
Then again is this Daley's way of getting the FBI to ease off investigating the CPD by bringing in one of their own to run the department?
One more thing: SCC can we start a collection to get some money for our beloved Mayor to get a fucking haircut? Someone send the man 15 bucks to get his haircut. He looked like a disheveled wino at the news conference.

Too many bosses are psychopaths. Give psychological exams to identify these people before they wreak havoc on talented officers.

Don't expect officers to respect political hacks who never paid their dues as street cops. Worthless paper-shuffling suckhole politicians are a dime a dozen on this job.

Morale is non-existent in this clout-infested dept. In the best case scenario, it will take decades to bring back real pride, professionalism and integrity to the rank and file.

A running start would include the forced retirement of the political hacks and making a truly professional process for promotions and assignments that is fair, transparent and above reproach.

Back the innocent troops against the constant horde of agitators who constantly cry wolf with incessant bogus claims of "racism" and "brutality".
The local media invariably gives unwarranted coverage to these charlatans, terrified of being considered less than "politically correct."

Plain and simple, this guy was picked to prevent the government from taking over and running the CPD. Pick a G man and the Feds go away—smoke and mirrors folks.

I just hope he sh*tcans the imbecile hacks or they retire before he does it for them. This kind of reminds me of the movie; Shawshank Redemption when the prison warden is sitting at his desk and finally realizes that all of his indiscretions have been exposed, he knows it is all over, and panic/dread sets in. I have a feeling this may have happened in a couple of exempt offices yesterday afternoon.

BTW did anyone notice richie rich at the press conference, I thought he was gonna drop dead on the spot. Does he look in the mirror prior to leaving his office? His hair was sticking out, was all messed up, and his voice sounded like he had been smoking crack for a couple of days.

they were supposed to make Lt's today, but we will see if the new Supt. has an influence or if they let the former crew in charge have one last hoorahhhhhh.
Somebody is coaching Jodi, because his first statement was that he understands in the course of officers doing their job, complaints are going to happen, he understands that as long as they remain in the course of the law. If he wasn't coached and came up with that observation on his own then he is smarter than most of the exempts in place and deserves a fair chance.

I for one, think this could be a great thing for the Department.
All I have ever heard on this blog is ofc's complaining about how the exempts may change faces but the "clout" remaines the same .
I will sit in my police car and enjoy the changes. Just imagine if he does clean up this department. I think it would be nice to get a promotional test score and know that is what I got.
The fact he got a raise for the Top Cop job can only help in our contract! We will not recieve a %67 raise but we might be able to see a %25 raise after 4 years !
Give this guy a shot! I hope I am working when he parts the sea(35th street)and the line of P/o's are walking to the districts for thier new assighments

How are we to be a credible organization for the world, when we have people without proper education or clearences for that matter [again G.E.D. Starks who can't get F.B.I. clearence for terrorism, comes to mind]?

This is one of the most glaring reasons why the Police dept. looks stupid, people!

A Detective with an Associates Degree is no match in court against a lawyer with a law degree!

A Sergeant with an Associates degree is not capable of diffusing a situation against those that have a higher education!

I have seen situations like this and it was laughable and embarrassing to the Police dept.

Typical college police bs, let me tell you something kid, some of the biggest no common sense having morons i've ever met on this job are the "degreed," let me clue you in, having a piece of paper doesn't make you smart. I am one of those "yawn bosses" you talk about with only credit hours, but guess what? I studied my balls off and got promoted to Sgt, the real degree you need on this job you learn on the street, school is good but common sense and street smarts is what's needed on this job. You can't learn that reading a book. If you don't like taking orders from people without degrees pass a test, it's amazing all the people I know on this job with JD's and Masters degrees that did horrible on the last Sgts. test, they then immediately assume that it must be rigged because they didn't make it. I have news for you, having a JD or Masters isn't hard and doesn't make you smarter than anyone else, it just takes a huge amount of time that alot of us with families don't have. Please spare me the Lawyers with law degrees are smarter nonsense, some of the stupidest people i've ever seen at 26th street carry bar cards, if you do your job correctly, do concise paper and learn how to testify you will win,if it's worth doing it's worth doing right, if they don't have anything they can't do anything.

Hee Hee... Welcome aboard Mr. New Superintendent, Sir!
May I suggest that you move quickly and send locksmiths and computer analyst to 35th St. immediately for obvious reasons. Retrieve take home cars immediately from every exempt member along with other department electronic device... Blackberry, radio, cell phone... have them report to HQ in the seasonal field uniform with helmet, raincoat & baton... assemble them in rank formation at attention and cite for any uniform deficiency in addition to irregulaties regarding D/L's, FOID cards and city weapon registrations... inform them that they are now detailed to loop traffic for 60 days at their career service rank of lieutenant and that they will assemble in the HQ parking lot at 0600 and given their posts. All recruits will return to the academy for additional training. That is all...

"It's sort of an affront to the ambitions of the members of the department," he said. "I think there may be some changes at the top among those [officers]. I think you may see some of those . . . looking at other careers."

-----------------------------------

Sorry Mark, I don't know what poll you took, but most of my co-workers agree and are fine with an outsider.

I am all for a guy who isn't tied into the old boy network and has to take care of all his people.

You jagged off your parents money to get a college degree and the best you been able to do is ride the passenger seat of a beat car in some ghetto ass district on the westside of Chicago. I guess the next time some Westsider decided to get apiece of your ass, you'll make sure that all of the responding units have college degress. Evidently your shit can't be all that great, you're still floating around on the West side with no way out. The problem with the Police Department... people like you who refuse to look at themselve in a full lenght mirror. You should take your Master degree(s) and apply for a job at NASA, where all the real smart people are at.....right now you're suffering under the delusion that the people of Chicago are privledge to have a JERK like you work in their behalf. Top Ten things the Sup should do upon coming into office. (Not in order of importance.)

1. Define what "merit" is so that I know what I have to do to obtain a merit promotion.

2. Automate the entire department. It's 2007! We waste way too much paper, which is costly to the taxpayer.

3. Downsize management. We have too many Chiefs and not enough Indians.

4. Stop this culture of micro-managing. Why is it that Chaz Williams need to sign off on a officer going to a tact team or taking NYE off? Can't the D/C or area Chief make that decision.

5. Enforce the sworn affidavit clause when filing a CR#.

6. Stop the medical abuse!

7. Update the equipment, that includes car, guns, computers...

8. Create a culture of "getting back to policing." Stop all the bullshit mission and knee jerk reaction. Let cops go out and police, vehicle/Terry stops, answer calls, patrol...

9. Realign districts. There has been a major demographic shift in the city since they were last aligned.

10. Hire more police.

In case you are wondering....a masters or bachelors degree doesn't mean that you have the ability to lead people. It just means you have the ability to sit in a classroom for 18-20 months, listen to lecture and get by with the bare minimum. In my 20 years otj I have seen plenty of supervisors on this job (Sgts on up..) who have masters degrees and they are complete dim-wits. A degree means that you are committed to completing a task. It should mean something in the promotion process, but not everything.

You're statements here only make you sound arrogant and smug. Having a college degree doesn't automatically make you a great police officer, detective or boss as your statements make it sound. Although I agree with the requirement of having some college (and/or military experience), it would still be best teamed up with common sense, street-smarts and professionalism. Qualities of which lack in some of those even with their college educations. Please, don't demean those people, and their work, who lack a piece of paper. Be careful how you word things and clear on who your directing your statements towards.

Many questions here: But all good !

1.Contact Cards: you know those things we do to violate everyones CIVIL RIGHTS? Are they still necessary?
2.Event numbers? BULLSHIT missions? Sounds good on the rqadio though but are they still necessary?
3. THE DOC: Can we finally shit can this thing? There has to be another way to do things instead of creating unnecessary inside postions for more "bean counters and house mice"?

4. New CARS? RADIOS? PDTS? the proper equipment needed there is never enough of these things when there are the full regiment of personnel on duty in any district.

5. PODS? Ok Huberman got promoted and he is gone sop can we stop buying more of these useless things that do NOT prevent crime and DO NOT WORK WHEN A HOMICIDE HAPPENS RIGHT UNDERNEATH THEM!

6. RESUMES? Let everyone send in a RESUME and lets find out who are the QUALIFIED PEOPLE out here!!!! check officers complimentary histories more so than the disciplinary history!

7. KEEP THE TACT AND GANG TEAMS IN THEIR OWN DISTRICTS UNLESS A RIOT OR BAD SITUATION WARRANTS TAKING THEM!

8. MAKE US BELIEVE IN PROACTIVE POLICING AGAIN there is a lot of fear in being proactive right now! Gun numbers are down search warrnats got to be down etc!

9. Get rid of the NUMBER HIDING SPOTS AT 35th ST. Let the citizens know the REAL numbers of Homicides and AGG. Batts. etc.

I was a good police officer before I had my two pieces of paper on the wall and have worked with some of the best police out there whom you or I could not stand next to, that had a GED or High school diploma, I had a GED myself. Now I am surrounded by the "new" police (I'm sure your one of them since you're in patrol on the West side) with all their education and zero "F" ing common sense. You are on the job because it's decent paying, has good benefits and your candy ass degrees could get you nothing else. I and my "no education" comrades are on the job because we wanted to be the police and make a difference. So F#%$@ You!

I say to help deter the high amount of "nitwit bosses" that make it on merit! Yes that is true!

Revise the Merit Qualifications to include a minimum of a Bachelors Degree from an accredited College.

<<<< What should the degree be in? What degree actually helps a copper on the street? A M.B.A. ?>>>

Those Officers with Post Graduate Degrees [i.e. for those that don't know, it is a Masters degree, Law degrees, etc.] should get considerable review and approval!

I have met quite a few bosses that only have an Associates degree or just credit hours, YAWN!

<<< WHAT ABOUT A PATROLMAN WITH A HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA? WOULD YOU DISMISS HIM ON A "MAN WITH A GUN " CALL? >>

These people got their spots NOT on their abilities but on how well they puckered their lips especially in HQ.!

.....I take it, now you realized, that a masters degree means nothing. Are you at peace with that?...

I am a Police Officer that has a Masters Degree and I work the Westside not in some damn office, and I find it insulting to take orders from a guy who didn't even try to get a college education even after they were promoted to the rank of Sergeant or Detective or higher [G.E.D. Starks comes to mind]!
....I TAKE IT YOU’RE FRUSTRATED FOR BEING OVERLOOKED. WITH YOUR EDUCATION ….. Why are you the police? I AM SURE YOU COULD GET A REAL JOB WITH THAT DEGREE...

How are we to be a credible organization for the world, when we have people without proper education or clearences for that matter [again G.E.D. Starks who can't get F.B.I. clearence for terrorism, comes to mind]?
......Is that really true?
I know of 20 year kids with clearances, and they are doing real fighting,( remember the war?) not the bitching , that we read on this site.

This is one of the most glaring reasons why the Police dept. looks stupid, people!

A Detective with an Associates Degree is no match in court against a lawyer with a law degree!

....YOU GIVE A DEGREE TOO MUCH CREDIT. i HAVE MET LAWYERS WITH NO COMMON SENSE.
Yes, there are detectives dumb as a box of rocks.

A Sergeant with an Associates degree is not capable of diffusing a situation against those that have a higher education!

....A M.B.A. is a prerequisite for a domestic?
You are telling me a drunken, shithead will shrink in the face of a M.B.A.? ....

I have seen situations like this and it was laughable and embarrassing to the Police dept.

It's just the facts of today's world people!

......Wits , common sense, and an attitude that doesn’t come off as superior can outweigh any degree!...

This is how we are looked at by the public!

What kind of goof are you. Listen college boy why aren't you Supt. If you don't think a good copper could outwit some asshole like in a hostage situation, some shyster lawyer at 26th St. etc. then you have not seen good coppers. You've been hanging around with real assholes. If you were on the street on the westside as much as you say this is either a joke or you are a liar.

I worked the westside years ago and we handled it without a degree. I testified in court hundreds of times and YOU KNOW WHAT?
I won, the defense lawyer lost and the asshole went to jail. Look at the stats asshole. I'd ask you where you got your masters but I think you would be embarrased.

This is why we have a new Supt. not from the ranks. It is from having a lot of goofs like you with your bullshit degrees and think "hey no I am smart" Watch these goofs run from the Dept. and real policeman stay and work as real policemen. Go to school for one more round and get the PHD, that way we can identify you as DR. ASSHOLE.

To Mr. "Over Educated Officer" You my friend are a real certified nitwit...You state that you have a "Masters Degree and work on the West side of Chicago" and you find it insulting to take orders from someone who in "Your" mind has an inferior education to you huh??? First of all....for someone who is as "highly educated" as yourself...why would you want to work here with us "common folk"? I am certain that with your superior knowledge you could be a surgeon or Nobel Prize winning scientist right? But...........You chose the profession of being a police officer??? Hmmmmmm....very interesting...I am one of those Sergeants with a shitty Bachelor's degree...from an inferior learning institution...I have always wanted to be the police and have been so since the age of 21...I am dedicated to my profession and also have worked the Wst side of Chicago for pretty much most of my career...I may even know you...but then again you are much better than me ,you may not want to associate with a bottom feeder such as muself since your far more intelligent than I.Your comments are assinine and discriminatory at best...you have the gall to put down other police officers who I am quite sure are better than you and more street smart than you beacuse you have a piece of sheepskin from some college or university?? Well...my friend let me tell you something... The best police officers that have ever worked on this department never had a college degree let alone any college....they were the "Real Police" and have been here long before you and I. I will challenge you to find any college or university in the world....that can teach you how to control a traffic stop or handle a shooting scene....they teach those courses in your universities that you went to right?? Isn't that what makes you better than me?? I am sure that you took the class on how to investigate domestic batteries too...they are all the same...any school can teach you that shit, right? You have no idea how much of a goof you sound like....You are NO BETTER than anyone pal....this job has NOTHING to do with your college degrees or your diploma(s)...it is pure street education...experience by doing,PERIOD! You rant and rave about how you shouldn't have to take orders from anyone with less education than you huh?? Well...if you are so fucking smart why aren't you a supervisor?? Because you're not as smart as you think, that's why. You are probably some wanna be cop who thinks he/she is the real police because he/she works in a "West side district"...please....been there done it...and I have worked with some of the VERY BEST....and I am honored to have worked with them!! I am humbled to have worked with these man and women...I am not above them...I am with them and walk next to them...I am NOT BETTER THAN THEM....but you are right?? Too bad you didn't leave your name....or is it Goof? go find another job that suits your high intellect....you're too good for us.

Why do you think U of C is a reputable school? I have looked at the work of some U of C students, and I don't know how they passed 8th grade. When I asked if the work was deemed acceptable by the professors at U of C, I was told the person was getting A's. I kinda lost my respect for that organization.

I hate to see you painting all graduates from any given school with the same brush. I would submit to you that not all of them did their entire undergrad at those schools, that not all of them skated through without doing the work or putting the time and studying and research into the courses they took. If some people skated through, shame on them, but why should everyone have to suffer for the folly of some?

You must hang out at "Hot stop" waiting to beat up another 5'00", 100 lb., hotty, little female that won't screw you, because you stink and reek of booze, so you beat her up!

This is why we get beat in the news! You too "stoopid" for your own good, Street smart copper, with no real education!

Those who resists a good College education sound like the gangbanging dogs we chase down the street. At least the gangbangers know they are gangbangers! Which makes them smarter than you asshats!

The problem with so called street smart coppers is, if you are so smart then why do you bitch about having a good education and getting ahead on this department to make a difference. You afraid to open a book or something? But, instead you whine about how the department fucks you over on the promotion tests and then merit.

The only person you fuck over is yourself!

You too stupid to realize it, street smart copper!

You sound as smart as Former 1st Deputy Sup. G.E.D. Starks!

What great company street smart coppers have! Go read from a 3 x 5 card will ya and shuddup! YAWN!!

Remember it is not how hard you work, it is how smart you work!

To: 9:05 PM -- your comment lost all credibility when you included MT. CARMEL in your list. The ability to breath is all you need to get into Mt. Carmel. It's strickly about football - not brains. No, I'm not a product of a rival southside Catholic League school, but just someone who works in 022 and has seen 1st hand how kids from Marist, Bro. Rice, Ignatius, Providence, St. Rita & St. Laurence produce a more well rounded kid.
Mt. Carmel is the remedial high school for the Catholics. These other high schools have standards and will expel a star football player (esp. St. Rita) for screwing up while Mt. Carmel will grab the kid and make no attempt to correct his behavior as long as he stars in football. What a shame that Lenti will draft top talent on the south side knowing they will never play a down on his varsity football team, but he succeeded in keeping these kids from going to another Catholic High School where they would actually play football and then Mt. Carmel would have to face this top talent.

I remember that half-wit, I just hope he aint the new boss.

And to Mr. overedumicated piss-ant: If your soooo fucking smart, and you have your PhD (piled higher and deeper) and all of those cute letters before and after your name on the MENSA certificate, answer us this little question there, Mr rocket scientist: Why are you still just a blue shirt humpin it on the da wessssideee? With all your fucking smarts shouldn’t you be in NASA or teaching at MIT, curing cancer? Take your degree; wipe your ass with it, cause that’s all yours is good for. Call mommy and daddy; tell them “thanks” for wasting all of the hard earned cash they could have used on something useful (an abortion comes to mind right now). After you hang up, do us, more importantly, yourself a huge favor: GET OVER YOURSELF! At no point in time, have you ever been, are or will be that important. Mommy was right when she said “special”, she never said “important”. It is quite obvious that you have issues to work out: narcissism is a good start! Explain to us why you have this need to post your bullshit on multiple threads on this blog? Once would have been fine, we catch on rather quickly! All you really have to do to impress us is show up on time, do your job to the best of your ability, look out for your fellow cops, try to make the world (or some small part) a better place, don’t be a fuck-up, and help out: That’s basically it! But you have some rather large acceptance issues you need to discuss. Daddy didn’t hold you enough? Momma not into the breast-feeding thing? Whatsup? Come on man, you can talk to us, you’re one of us… Need a hug? When you are in need of this hug, from whom is it more comforting, a male or female? Don’t be ashamed about that one time in the shower, you looked; he was HUNG, and wondered what it would be like. Its natural, I’m sure there’s some guy wearing ass-less chaps right now that’s willing to help you get over these issues (for about $50), remember: NOT ON VIDEO! The whole Abbate thing was jammed down our throats enough, we don’t want your video of something getting jammed down your throat too! Don’t worry about it kid, one of these days after you win the wrestling match with your demons, (or the dude in chaps) you might just make a decent cop! Until then, keep on with the “happy pils”.

Education, partial or none, the idea that if you work hard, are honest, have a good morals and use common sense will get you promoted has long been lost in this job. There are many great coppers out there with no formal education and many with. The problem is not so much their educational backgound and know how, it is the ability for the people who promote to recognize these officers. How does one make him or herself noticed? Award Ceremonies, a nice letter from citizens and co workers? Other than ass kissing, how can one get noticed by the people that promote? So Scc... Let's do some good.....let's let co workers nominate and recognize good cops and their supervisors. Let the nominations begin.

Dear 1:36 a.m.,
Why the hate against MC? Maybe you better check out your facts before you start blasting. MC has a fantastic honors and AP program with students taking classes at University of Chicago, doesn't sound remedial to me. I know everyone is entitled to their opinion but just because a school has something for everyone, sports,a good AP program,Mc Dermott-Doyle program, theatre program just to name a few don't preach about something you obviously have not experienced. Your comments sound more personal to me than just job related, no one is forced to go to MC, they just want to be part of a fantastic tradition. There is also no need to preach about them being the worst kids running around in 022, when I worked there the kids from all the schools you mentioned pretty much attended the same parties and hung out in the same parks.

I am a member of this Police Department with a Doctorate. I can tell you this from my experience and education. I am better prepared than a perosn who has not had the education I have at performing research. If any one can come up with an argument to this I would really like to hear it. However, I can say that my Education both in criminal justice and other subjects does not have any bearing as to my work on the Police Department. I do not believe the education has any effect on my abilities on the street. This is something that cannot be taught in a classroom. I am no more nor no less qualified to perform my job than is someone with a high school diploma. The one area which seems to be ignored is military experience. I do not have any but I do believe someone with military experience would probably have advantages and be able to perfom many task better than myself. Yes I have been promoted, I got lucky on a test one saturday, this does not make me a better leader, it just puts me in a leadership position. I think having an educated department is a great idea. To have officers who have certain computer skills, and language skills is great. But I am smart enough to know that education is not the key to being a good police officer. It is drive and desire. I can see that many officers have lost this drive and desire, hopefully, this trend will end. Hopefully we will have a stonger better department soon. I actually have a proposal that may help.

My proposal has to do with promotion. Most officers are questioning why they should do quality police work. Such work often leads to CR's and headaches. Also, much of this hard work is not rewarded with promotion. If we had a fair merit promotion system, I do believe quality police work woudl increase. I believe I have found a way to promote with fairness based on merit.
Here is my sytem
An officer seaking rpomotion fills out an application for the position they are seaking. In this application would be included, awards, arrests, case reports on good solid police work, letters from superiors, medical time etc. However, all this information would then go to a commitee without any name nor identifying marks or numbers. The commitee would not know the name, sex, race nor relative of the officer seaking the position. If promotion was based soley on merit, why would you have to have the applicants name, instead of his or her accomplishments? Well, I can't speak for the man, but hopefully, with the new Sup., such a system would be tired. I believe such a system would improve morale, increase good police work, and improve police service.

Hey douche bag its a blog not a term paper. Thats why spelling is not corrected, nor proper sentence structure. Maybe you should read the content of the proposal instead.

I keep reading Over-Educated-Cops stuff. I don't think he's even a cop. I think he's someone Dana Starks beat the shit out of in grammar school or something. Seriously.
