Gridlock Continues in Springfield

One of these days, hopefully, the entire CTA will go under.
  • A plan to divert state tax money to the ailing Chicago-area mass transit systems failed Wednesday night in the Illinois House amid accusations of political gamesmanship.

Public transportation would have gotten a $440 million boost under the plan. Officials warn that train and bus service in the Chicago area will be cut sharply if aid isn't approved by early January. The state aid would have come from revenue on gasoline sales taxes, essentially creating a $440 million hole in the budget. The plan's backers offered no proposals for filling that hole.
We really hope that the downstate democrats and various republicans realize that they've got Blago, Daley and a whole bunch of Machine democrats over a barrel and can really break them if they put a bit of effort into it.

It's a faint hope, seeing as how any politician would sell out their own mother for a bunch of pork barrel spending for their districts, but it's still a hope we hold onto.

One of these days, hopefully the gas tax will be raised to pay for the police time assigned to covering traffic and parking violations, and then gas will cost so much that the CTA will be profitable again.

In the meantime, you're a jag and a hypocrite driving around without paying the cost to society, so f*** off.

Aren't riders charged to take public transportation? I'll bet if it were run by a private company it would be self sufficient.

Put the blame for much of this on the Teflon Mayor. Daley has watched the CTA get worse and worse and be used as a patronage dump by his incompetent buddy Frank Kruesi. When does Daley get held accountable?

The main issue here is that nothing will get passed because the down state republicans refuse to give any money to the poor / smart individuals that count on public transp[ortation unless they get some money out of it.

Why has the media not asked...."HOW DID THE CTA GET INTO THIS SITUATION"? Could it be the overpriced, lazy, incompetent workers and administrators that have been hired and promoted for the sake of Diversity and political correctness? The CTA and the CPD are in the same trouble for the same reasons. Government can only absorb so muuch incompetence before it collapses! THAT IS WHAT YOU ARE SEEING.

Daley leased the Skyway to a private company for $$$. Daley leased the downtown parking garages to a private company for $$$. Maybe it's time to think about doing the same to the CTA. The city would get some cash in the deal and a private company would run the CTA better than it is now.

The CTA should not be given any money. The CTA has mismanaged their finances and now they are on a public relations campaign by creating an artificial "crisis", "doomsday scenarios", etc...

The CTA needs to be held accountable.

Good job Chicago on your Democratic ticket. F*ckin treehugger crybabies. You voted them in..now shut up. Always complaining about Bush, but can't see in front of your face because yo daddy has been tellin you to be Democrat because you live in Chicago. Grow your own food, and make your own clothes then you can complain. Be a leader, and vote for the issues, and not the ticket. I don't care about CTA,RTA..shut the rails and buses down.

The CTA is a social exiperiment that has failed. This is proven year after year as they can't manage within their budget. It is time for the CTA to be privitized. The bus and train routes should be sold to private companies and regulated under contract. There would be no need for the overpaid merchandise mart staff and save the tax payers millons while providing the public better more reliable dervice.

Maybe it is time to sell off the CTA. The rest of the country and the state should not be subsidizing something only used by Chicagoans, especially something that has been run as poorly as this agency has been for so many years.

If Chicagoans really want to subsidize mediocre mass transit than raise taxes in Chicago to pay for it.

Last year 20% of federal motor fuel taxes was wasted on mass transit scams all over the country. There is not a single one that is operated without significant subsidies.
