- In 1975, Mayor Richard J. Daley quoted his mother as he unapologetically defended his decision to give $1 million in city insurance business to an Evanston firm that included his son.
- Thirty-two years later, Richard M. Daley is struggling to come to grips with a similar conflict involving his son and city business. Only this time, the mayor is not defending it and claims to have had no involvement in or prior knowledge of the deal.
For a notorious micro-manager, the mayor sure misses a lot of the finer details concerning city contracting and friends, relatives, and political contributors being closely involved in making thousands, even millions, of dollars.
And as a wag pointed out in the comments section, since the Department of Ethics has been having the Police Department hand out one and two day suspensions for simply being late in filing ethics disclosures, what would be the penalty to the mayor and his son for failing to file and reveal these conflicts?
Perhaps a bit of a refund is in order?
Along with a monetary penalty to make sure that this never ever happens again in the City of Chicago. Hahahahahahahahaha.

some good questions...what does the mayor's ethics statement say?...is he still saying, "I have no idea, I know nothing"...is anyone investigating the ethics statements, i.e., looking into the truth of statements made therein, or absence thereof, concerning city insurance business....hello, feds? can you help a brother out here?.....
Heck I was late last year. Cost me $20 for a late fee. Called FOP- was told I should have filed the Ethics Statement on time.
I love the way you have to disclose all real estate holdings also. LOL as fewer and fewer of us are able to own a home
And by the way, SCC, has anyone in the PRESS asked the Mayor if he has taken the prescribed two day unpaid furlo this year, the one he levied on every city mgr. who makes more than $75,000.00 a year?
And will "Jody" have to leave a considerable sum behind two days out of the year, like we all did?
Inquiring minds definitely want to fucking know!!!! Has Kass or Main asked the Mayor about this yet? Will any of the press get a straight answer, or even have the balls to put it to the short man?

As an aside: With regards to Vanecko and $63 million of our pension monies. Who on the Pension Board authorized the monies to be given to these people? What other deals have been made and authorized by whom?
Should an independent audit be called for? Is there any legal recourse to recover the monies?
Should there be a recall of Pension Board Officers????? Is there anybody out there listening to this?

The kid joined the Army to hide out. All the scandals were breaking that year. He also had other problems he was running from.
Let's take a poll. How many other 29 year olds that graduate from the U of C with a MBA and ticket to invest in companies or get any job they want enlists in the armed services while there is a war going on and their father/mother is a prominent politician? Answer anyone? the answer is none. None except the kid that is running to hide from the law and illegal activity. It will be interesting to see if anything happens to the kid. I doubt it. Daley will make sure of that. Can't have his son go to jail or band from city business contracts. Funny how after the kid makes his money and isn't reported as 5% owner of a company doing business with the city, the city counsel changes the law to a higher % rate. Now 5% falls under the radar. The city that works, you got to love it.

Morals, ethics? What are they? To be a cadet at West Point you must follow the honor code. If you don't have morals or ethics you have to leave. Could it be Patrick was kicked out for cheating.
This story got 2 minutes of television coverage. Why do you think that was? This story was suppose to break a 18 months ago. Just another cover up.
