Look! A Gun Saved a Life

  • A female homeowner who shot a male intruder in her back yard in October 2006 spoke to KNBC's Laurel Erickson on Wednesday, one day after a jury found the man guilty of all charges.

Nadine Teter shot Michael Lugo twice in the stomach and once in the leg after he broke into her Canyon Country home.

Lugo broke the lock on Teter's door and barged in. She fled to the back yard with her gun, according to police.

"He was coming at me. He was yelling. I shot him to stop him," Teter said. "He went down. He got back up. Came back at me. I shot him again. I shot him again, and he turned around and jumped back over the fence. (He) disappeared."
Both Crimefile and The Other Side of Kim cover this event.

But any local coverage seems to have slipped through the cracks. Hmmmm.

That's great. Would never happen in Chicago. As soon as The jump out boys hear there's may be gun in a person's home they'l be there kicking in her door. They need the numbers.

You can tell she isnt a cop. She shot three times and HIT THE GUY THREE TIMES.

A cop would of unloaded his extended clip of ammo and maybe winged the bad guys elbow.

Too bad she didn't use a larger caliber handgun, like a .45 Case would have been over a long time ago. Good for her anyway.

"Local" coverage slipped through the cracks because, you know, California isn't exactly local. If anything it would have been in the national pages, but it usually has to be some kind of national newsmaking event for that to happen.

When I lived in NY I had a gun because I owned a restaurant and had cash on me quite often, and once had to use it as a man broke in my home while I was in bed. I missed, b/c I am not a good shot and only used it at the firing range a few times. But he fled, and the NYPD were there in minutes. I'm a female not in law enforcement, but am responsible enough to own a gun. Wish Chicago would get on board. Besides, those who commit drines always have a way to get a gun. My husband is a Sgt. but when he's working his 3 watch, I'm unarmed.

It's time to replace her wussy .38 or whatever it is she used. Clearly she knows how to shoot, now all she needs is something with more stopping power.

Unarmed D.C. Police Recruits Placed on the Street
From WJLA TV, December

WASHINGTON, DC – The Metropolitan Police Department has closed its academy for December and placed unarmed recruits on the street - putting them at risk, according to the family of one recruit.

Chief Cathy Lanier says it is normal practice to put recruits on the street in December.

"These officers are put in the business corridor," she said. "They should be with senior officers who are with them and are armed and I'm certainly not going to do anything to put any of my officers in danger."

But the recruit's family - which didn't want to be identified, fearing retribution - disagrees.

"He has no weapons no training and he has a target on his back."

The woman who spoke with us is the partner of the recruit's mother.

"He's scared; that's the bottom line, he's scared."

She also disputed the chief's assertion that the recruits are only used in the business corridor. That is where ABC 7/NewsChannel 8 cameras captured some this week.

"It's not as though they're walking up and down the streets of Georgetown to make the shoppers feel better," said the recruit's mother's partner. "They're in alleys and behind projects. Let's not call them officers - they're targets."

The police union also objects to the deployment of unarmed recruits.

"Having unarmed recruits on the street does not improve safety for citizen because they have no ability to do anything," said Kristopher Bauman of the Fraternal Order of Police. "We're concerned they're not going to be able to protect themselves if they're attacked."

The recruits will be on the streets this weekend as part of the department's "All Hands on Deck Weekend."

Guns are inanimate objects---they can't cause anything----criminals cause crime (do shovels cause ditches---of course not ditch-diggers do, see how that works?)

Someone should of taught her the 2-1 shot rule. Two to the body, one to the head. It tends to make things more permanent. Good job though'.
And the other post are right. Couldn't be CPD, too accurate.
