A Sad Note

  • Cook County sheriff's police Wednesday were investigating whether a Chicago police officer found dead at a cemetery near Willow Springs shot himself.

The 49-year-old officer was found about 1:40 p.m. in his Chevrolet Impala, which was parked with its engine running in Fairmount-Willow Hills cemetery, near 91st Street and Archer Avenue, Cook County sheriff's police spokeswoman Penny Mateck said.
Ladies and Gentlemen, please, please, please - seek help. It's there, it's free, and it'll save your life.

unfortunatly this story is true. I work in 008 on third watch which this particular officer worked. He was a good officer and an even better person. Danny C. was one of the most liked people on the watch. At the beggining of 1500 roll call the w/c broke the news to the p.os. Danny you will truly be missed, you were a true gentleman and a friend to us all. rest in peace you will be remembered. people... please dont let this job do this to you... it did it to him and now it is a long term mistake for a short term problem that many of us and his family will have to deal with. danny, we love you brother. -008 third watch-

People aren't buying newspapers nearly as much as they used to, it is a fact.

So the Tribune and Sun-Times will come up with any negative police story they can find, including unearthing ones from years ago, just to sell a few more copies.

This just shows that these scum will stoop to any low to further themselves.

D.C. please rest in peace.. you were a good man.

First of all May the perpetual light shine upon the Officer. I put the blame for rhe recent rash of suicides directly on the incompetence of the exempt ranks and on the media. In the world of the exempts and the media whores they know everything, can do anything, and are much smarter than any P.O. How would the exempts or the media deal with the problem of constantly being watched, every decision they make be the basis for a lawsuit, and every time they showed up for work not knowing if they will be going home after their shift is done. Officers PLEASE get help if you feel the need to do something rash. It's out there for you. Take advantace of it.

If he is mayor an can say that ... then I can say it that much more readily ...

Don't let this shit get to you .. make friends at work and LAUGH ... do good for people if you are in a position to do so ... and do not take this job seriously ... 'this is just a job'

R.I.P.

The Final Inspection

The policeman stood and faced his God,which must always come to pass.

He hoped his shoes were shining just as brightly as his brass.

"Step forward now, policeman. How shall I deal with you?

Have you always turned the other cheek?

To my church have you been true?

The policeman squared his shoulders and said.

"No, I guess I ain't because those of us who carry a badge
can't always be a Saint."

I've had to work most Sundays
and at times my talk is rough,
and sometimes I've been violent,
because the streets are awfully tough.

But I never took a penny that wasn't mine to keep...
though I worked a lot of overtime when the bills got to steep.

And I never passed a cry for help
though at times I shook with fear,
and sometimes, God forgive me, I've wept unmanly tears.

I know I don't deserve a place among the people here.

They never wanted me around except to calm their fear.

If you've a place for me here, Lord, it needn't be so grand,

I never expected or had too much, but if you don't...I'll understand"

There was a silence all around the throne where the Saints had often trod.

As the policeman waited quietly for the judgment of his God.

"Step forward now, policeman.

You've borne you burdens well.

Come walk a beat on Heaven's streets.

You've done your time in Hell"

OUCH!!
I pray for that officer and his family. I must admit, Please, any officers who even think one time of taking such drastic action, please go talk to the employee counseling people. I have been to their office for a talk. I have been struggling with staying on this job, paying my bills, a house I can’t afford and shitty schools for my kids. I can’t afford to send them private.
Every day as I walk up the stairs to my locker, I need every bit of strength. I have found so much hate in my heart. Unfortunately, they cant help me. Unless they can give me some sort of happy pill to get me through the day. If I had a drug or drinking problem, Im sure they would set me in the right direction for help. If I were suicidal, Im confident they have the means to step in and help, but I am neither. I have fallen by the wayside and dread everyday going to work. The best I can do has been keeping an eye out for another career. At this point I will take a job just to get by and get out of this shit hole of a city.
I can still remember when I first came on this job. I was having so much fun. There were days when I used to tell my partner how I could work another 8 hours just for the fun of it. Now all the fun is gone. The city will sell you out in a heartbeat. The bosses are micro managing us until there is noting left. It such a shame. I was a great officer. I was aggressive and did the job honorably. Now I just answer my calls and do my best to help out the people out there who truly need our help. Everybody else, get a life. To all you po’s out there, when shit hits the fan and you need an assist, I will be there to help, but that’s it. The city created a monster. 16 years down the drain!!! Sorry.

The stress of this job doesn't come from chasing bad guys, it is from everywhere else, the public, the media, the horseshit city and department we work for, they all effect us much more than the danger from bad guys.

Very, very sorry to hear this. However, this Dept. is of very little help in giving ANYBODY any real help if they seem to have problems. Have you ever seen a Supervisor pull someone aside, and relieve him or her of duty for unusual behavior, etc? They, the big cheese supervisors, and the Politicians, love when the troops are disgruntled, lets give em some more work, responsibility, and grief and b.s. orders. Change their hours, change their days off, change their work assignments, fuck them, we the Supervisors are the elite, too bad if they don't like it, just squeeze every bit of work possible out of them, but give little or no support to them, unless they are clout-babies, or if it benefits us somehow. Give them little time off to unwind, don't hire more cops so the troops can get time due, Little Mayor Hitler doesn't want to spend the money, he wants to buy chrome Beans and flower planters, they are more important. Too bad if the job interferes with their family life, we own them. 6 day work weeks? HA, it should be 7days That'll keep em busy!

It's a shame that we will, as a society, bend over and kiss any Crack/Dope heads Ass to help them although they chose their own path to destruction, or feel sorry for some rich, young spoiled, conceited movie or rock star who O/D's by their own hand,
but just say, we have councelling help available to P.Os, , come in to us for help, to dedicated Police Officers who need help. Yeah, sit in an office and wait for customers, typical of the City of Crook-ago. Numerous southside cops have committed suicide in the past 5 years, nothing done to attempt to address this by the Dept. But let a jitney Reverend call and complain about something and its, Drop everything , got to kiss their asses due to political favoritism, get going right away, we are shakey and ball-less, so just drop everything for the politicos. Fuck all of you Liberal politicians and Police -Clout MotherFuckers, you are the Shit on the bottom my shoe. And fuck this political whore-house of a police Department. Fuckin Sons of Bitches...

To Ouch:
Hang in there brother. See a private M.D., get on the med', we are a depressed group. No one will know and they do not come up in a piss test.

Fuck those micro bosses, try and laugh your ass off brother.

We kill our self much-much to often and the booze just makes it worse.

God bless you,

Brothers and sisters what I have to share here is the most important thing I could ever share. Please take it to heart for yourself or someone you love. I am a survivor of Depression. I vowed when i got healthy that I would do whatever I could to help a fellow policeman who suffers.
Depression is a medical condition no different from asthma, diabetes, or heart disease. It can strike at any time and they still don't completely know what can start an episode. What typically happens when someone commits suicide is everyone left behind tries to figure out what drove the person to suicide. It is the chicken or the egg question and the answer is nothing causes suicide but depression. Forget about suicide bombers and murder/ suicides for this discussion, those are different altogether.
We all have pressures and stresses but when a person suffers with depression their ability to cope is greatly diminished due to the brains inability to properly respond. The human brain is the most complex thing in the world, an orchestra of millions of chemical signals and receivers, all playing they're own critical role. Everything we do, blinking, smiling, breathing, it all starts with a hormone or electrical signal in the brain. When something in the brain gets out of sink it can have devastating effects on our ability to cope or properly perceive the situation or our self image. Medication DOES WORK and therapy can help the process of healing. And NO YOU WILL NOT BE FIRED FOR TAKING MEDICATION!!! I am proof. Yes, you may be given a medical leave to get your situation under control but that is a gift and not a punishment.
Policeman kill themselves more then most because we have at our disposal the quickest, most efficient means, our weapon. If you know a fellow copper who is depressed, encourage them to leave the weapon in the locker at work and to get all other firearms out of the house until they get healthy. Many coppers have called me over the years to seek my advice. I offer myself to all of you, you can call me anytime. No, I am not a therapist and I cannot help you in that way. What I have to offer you is proof that things can get better, that you are a strong person, you're just suffering something physical that shows up by affecting our emotions, and that you will not be fired...Beverly Jackson was also a life saver for me and reassured me constantly and called me daily for weeks as I began treatment. Many of you already know me but for those who don't, I work in 006 on the 2nd watch so call if you need encouragement to get help. It will be the toughest step you'll ever take but the best step you'll ever take...Remember this, you can no more will Depression away as you could will away cancer. It takes strength to get help or a friend who loves you enough to get it for you. God Bless and Rest in Peace Brother D.C..His family will need much, let's not forget them.

Remember, we kill ourselves in way greater numbers than bad guys do us in.

The stress of this job doesn't come from chasing bad guys, it is from everywhere else, the public, the media, the horseshit city and department we work for, they all effect us much more than the danger from bad guys.

Asshole bosses will kill more police officers than any gang banger.

Take care of each other, fuck the bosses, fuck the department and fuck the City, you and your family and co-workers matter, little else does.

I couldn't of said it better myself. This fucking Dept. and the bosses will turn on you and let you hang if it benefit them. In the last 5yrs, this job has changed so much. The shitheads I deal with on the streets is pleasant compare to the way this Dept. treats me. I've had thoughts of blowing my brain out after my tour. I would quit this job in a second, but the city has a way of keeping a leash on you.

We are always devastated when we hear something like this. As different as our opinions are, we all have one thing in common. We have all felt the severe stress caused by members of the department, never by the bad guys.

As for the comments about don't read this blog if you don't want to see your name. It don't work like that. Whether you read this or not, once your name is on this blog, everybody knows about it and so do you.

Then what do you do? Come on here and try to defend yourself and take the chance of opening the door for more rude comments to be publicized about yourself?

I'm with lots of you in begging SCC to stop posting the cruel juvenile comments and the names of people. If it made the newspaper, its fair game. Other than that, lets rise above this defamatory rumorville crap and stop hurting each other.

RIP Officer! To any1 else that feels that disheartened to take their own life, EAP is there and they do a good job, it is strictly confidential (and also available to retirees). Why do u all assume that it is is job related when some1 commits suicide? I have known to many officers who have done it, but it has more likely been domestic and financial problems that brought it about. Counseling does work if u let it. Keep in mind when things go bad for u, it usually does not happen overnite, so for things to turn around it also does not happen overnite. If u feel u can't trust EAP, at least see your own doctor, who can help and make a referral for u.

Dear Ouch

Just wanted to let you know that what you are is experiecing is fairly typical. During my first two years I would work another eight for free if it were possible and that was in Englewood. That adrenalin gets going and you are just having so much fun. I'm now in my 26th and on the downhill side. This Job is a serious of progressions mentally. The fun years, the cynical years, the reborn years, the I don't give a rats ass years, and the coasting years. You have yet to pass the cynical stage and you are way behind in doing so if you have 16 yrs.on. I'm here to tell you that you are sick. Yes my brother it is a sickness. Here is the test. If you go to work and as soon as you drive past the district boundary you become a monster that deep down inside you, you know is not really the type of person you are, then its time to change your envirenment. You have to leave the place where you work. Bid somewhere else, anywhere. If you currently don't work in the district where you live, then bid there if possible or get there somehow. This is what will happen to you, albeit it dosen't last forever. You will begin to get better. You will begin to care again. It now matters that the griffiti is being sprayed on your garage, your kids play on your streets, your wife shops at that grocery store, that abandoned car is around the corner from your house. You have nothing to lose and may possibly get your sanity back. You can always go back to whatever shithole your in. If you can't get to the home district start by getting closer, one district at a time. You need a change!

Very, very sorry to hear this. However, this Dept. is of very little help in giving ANYBODY any real help if they seem to have problems. Have you ever seen a Supervisor pull someone aside, and relieve him or her of duty for unusual behavior, etc? They, the big cheese supervisors, and the Politicians, love when the troops are disgruntled, lets give em some more work, responsibility, and grief and b.s. orders. Change
-----------------------------
Nicely done! In 008 though ,the bosses are good. The higher than 008 bosses are th problem.

'...It's a shame that we will, as a society, bend over and kiss any Crack/Dope heads Ass to help them although they chose their own path to destruction, or feel sorry for some rich, young spoiled, conceited movie or rock star who O/D's by their own hand...'

I hope to God that I am right in saying this, but it's not the majority that speaks. It's the minority that speaks the loudest that gets heard. Liberals, hollywood, "reverends" and the media victimize the offenders and brainwashes others into believing their conspiracy theories.

As I've said many times, they use the hardships and despair of their own people to empower themselves. There is always a hidden enemy that only they can save their people from. Bin Laden, Saddam, Ahmadinejad and their ilk used the same tactics to empower themselves. If there is no enemy, they have no power. The offenders are convinced that they are the victims, and therefore not responsible for their actions, while the police are held to standards that they would never hold themselves to.

The "reverends" play the game to keep their power. The shitheads play the game so they keep getting their checks and draw a sympathetic jury when they get locked up for slingin' rocks. The media plays the game to sell their smut.

My point is, and I say this from experience and through talking with others, we live in a liberal bubble and we all feel the pressure being the inherent conservatives we are; risking our lives for the sake of others. We read, hear and experience the world through the selective ears and foggy glasses of the liberals that surround us.

It is a discouraging bubble we live in, having everything we do under the liberal scrutiny of the very public we are trying to protect, but outside of this bubble I hope there exists some sanity.

I pray for the officer and for all POs that feel the pressure, and may God give them the strength to seek the help they need.

The best way to honor this fallen officer is for us to unite and let our voices be heard.

To the "shit will always be here" I thank you for using the word "shit" to add emphasis to your personal expression.

You are absolutely right. We signed up for this shit. We thrive and prosper in this shit. We take shit and dish it out. And someday will retire from this shit.
But in the mean time make the most of this shit and don't let the bosses bother you 'cause they are full of it.

Years ago, a bullshit lieutenant gave me a day for sending a pdt that contained the phrase
"shit-faced"
That piece of shit is now retired.

Danny was such a nice man, I had the honor and priveledge of working with him in the 008th district and am grateful for knowing him.
Thank you for all the positive postings and for the officers who have left their names and reached out.
I am also going to leave my name and number so that if anyone needs to talk I am here.
I have a wonderful family and great friends who will listen wihtout judging and always offer a helping hand.
I will listen without judging, give you a hand to hold, and a lend you and ear. Suicide is awfully hard for your friends and family. I know sometimes we don't want our friends or family to see us so weak and in such a fragile state of mind, but remember they love us and don't want to lose us.
Suicide does not happen over night and sometimes there isn't a trail of signs, but our job is hard and I know it sounds corny but tell your friends you care. Let them know that you need them and that you appreciate them. Share your weak moments with them so they will know that you are not embarrassed and they can feel comfortable doing the same.
The hardest part is acknowledging that you have a problem and actively seeking help.
If you know someone that has money problems, 30 days pending, marital problems, or families with health issues, just be there.
Nobody wants to die, nobody wants to hurt the people they love, they just can't see another way.

I am officer Sofia Terrones, my cell is 773-454-3247, call any time. My e-mail is kodi10453@aol.com.
I am sick and tired of going to funerals for friends and family, especially people that could have been helped.

you are a bitter and cold individual. How much hatred do you have in your heart to post something like that after Obie not only talks about something that is hard to talk about but offers help? You are proof that some people just did not get enough hugs as a child. You should call Obie. It is a sad day to see a post so malicious as yours. I pray you are not a cop because if that is how you treat your co workers even on a blog, I cannot imagine how you treat the citizens. I am sure we will read about you one day in the Slum Times.

Our sincere and heartfelt prayers to the entire family and police family of Officer Daniel C.: Officer Dan, you will always be remembered for your special smile and kind words of encouragement to the Gold Star Families. You were always there for us, and let us know that you would never forget our loved ones. We will be forever grateful for your love and support that you showed to our families. Now it is time of us to give back to you, and we will. Officer Dan, we will be there for your family, now and in the hard days ahead. Your brothers and sisters in blue are hurting so bad. There are no words to express this pain that is in their hearts. Everybody is hurting so bad, and many tears are being shed for you. Everybody is still in a state of shock. Some of us met your beautiful family members today, gave them our word, that together we will go through this time of deep sorrow. We know that we get stronger as we stay together. Thank you for your years of hard work, integrity, sacrifice, dedication, perservance and love. We love you and will never forget you. I'm trying to confirm a rumor I heard a couple of weeks ago re: a Sgt. from the academy to tried to commit suicide just before Christmas. If it's the person I'm thinking of, I came on the job with him and we have lost touch recently. If anyone has any info. it would be appreciated. I would hate to just call him and ask if this isn't true.

been on furlough and out of town catching up now and I know this is a little late, but maybe this idiot will read it.
I have never yelled on here, but here goes...

DON'T EVEN FUCKING MENTION A RUMOR, JUST SAY, "HEY, WHAT'S UP? HAVEN'T HEARD FROM YOU IN A WHILE."
