Why J-Fed? Why?
Police Supt. Jody Weis met privately with a handful of black ministers on Monday to begin to re-establish trust between citizens and police hit by allegations of excessive force and a scandal in the disbanded Special Operations Section.
Those in attendance said Weis promised to promote more minority officers, re-double efforts to recruit African Americans and order sensitivity training.
The new superintendent also talked about addressing black congregations at Sunday church services and broadening a pilot program that saw ministers and community leaders address police roll calls to suggest ways to bridge the gap between citizens and police.
How about we look at the statistics of police battered by members of this demographic? It's kind of high, isn't it? Then how about the number of dead altar boys who happen to be carrying pistols and pointing them at the police? We seem to recall a number of these incidents, not a few which led to mini-riots.
And having civilians and reverends address roll calls? If you troll through our archives, we had a post telling what happened when reverends came to address an 018th District Roll Call and spent their time ripping the coppers and labeling them all racists for what turned out to be a completely justified shooting of an armed offender. If we recall, recently dismissed Charlie Williams ended up going to 018 to apologize on behalf of the Superintendent for that bone headed decision. But that's what happened when reverends are front organizations for gangs and support the gangs over the rule of law.

Speaking of cell phones SCC... I'd like to suggest that no Officer uses his personal cell phone while on duty for business use.
The City doesn't reimburse us for using our phone for notifications while on scene.
Yet the W/C always comes on the air and asks the Officer to call him in his office.
Or when dude is shot...the zone tells the officer to call the fusion center immediately and operations command.

Years ago, they tried this, it did not work, some of the "Revs" got into the front office and they got their people hired under federal jobs funding. Last time I checked most police don't commit crimes, pay thier bills, send their kids to school, keep their homes and yards in order, pay taxes and work full and part-time jobs, all while making arrests, filling out reports, bringing home curfews, and in general protecting the segment of the population that does none of the above. I dont know what really happened at the meeting and quite frankly, I dont care because guess what, they dont care what you or I think any damn way. You are cannon fodder, nothing more. If you think you are irreplaceable, think again, you are sadly mistaken. We as police officers should first and foremost look within and ask ourselves, "Can we improve ourselves and display the proper professionalism necessary so as to leave no doubt in the minds of the public we serve and the management level of this department?". I think that we can. I think that we are almost all competent, intelligent adults and need only to be given annual, certified and legitimate in-service training, in all areas of law enforcement that meets or exceeds nationwide standards and the proper "leadership" by supervisors who are knowledgeable and experienced. We will then accomplish any task set before us and bring credit to ourselves and become a model department. The issue of "merit" should have guidelines attached to it, such as how many times in a career can an individual be promoted meritoriously? Should a criteria for your "first" merit promotion be a minimum of five years experience in a beat car at the district level? Bottom line is we first have to learn to stick together as professionals and adults. Some of the crap that goes on here shows anyone who cares to read it that we probably couldnt even unite to not write tickets for one day. What a thought that is for starters. Sorry this is so long.
If a rev comes into my roll call I am GONE, I refuse to listen to some asshole who is gonna tell me that WE are the bad guys.

Solving police-community relationship problems in black neighborhoods is SIMPLE. Reduce the police presence, and there will be less interaction and problems. We will be happy to leave. All that the black reverends have to do is their part-fix the issues such as lack of father in the home, drugs, dropping out et al and the crime rate will go down. Where are the brave black leaders who can stand up for their communities in Chicago?

This injunction has to do with your use of FLSA compensatory time. Here are the highlights: First, the City has been ordered to revise its time due slips and have new slips in use by March 31, 2008. The injunction will take effect the following day. When an officer requests to use FLSA comp time, the City must grant any request made so long as the request is made no less than 48 hours prior to the shift for which the time off is requested. If the Department decides that a replacement sworn member is needed, the Department must seek a replacement worker. Officers requesting FLSA time off may propose names of replacement workers and the Department must consider those individuals.
The Department can deny the use of FLSA compensatory time if, and only if, it reasonably and in good faith anticipates that granting the request would impose an unreasonable burden on the Department’s ability to provide effective police service or would endanger a sworn officer’s safety. The Department has been ordered by the Court to provide a written explanation of any denial – no more denials based on “manpower;” no more returned slips. All denials must now be documented. Finally, the need for the Department to pay premium pay (time and one-half) to attract a replacement worker cannot provide a basis to deny compensatory time off.
Our lawyers have been given the right to conduct periodic audits for one year beginning April 1, 2008, in order to ensure full compliance with the injunction. The City has not yet indicated whether it will appeal the trial court’s ruling. We will keep you apprised of all future developments.

You can write off your home phone on your taxes, because the dept. makes you have one and you can write off a portion of your cell. phone use as well due to work use.

In a perfect society you should be promoted because of your work ethic, your education, and your ability to do the job. Mr. Wies, if you are going to promote people of color (Blacks, Latino's, Asian, Middle Easterners) please look at their work ethic, please look at what they have done on this job that merits them being promoted to (Detective, Sergeant, Lieutenant). Be fair to the White officers on this job that bust their ass day in and day out to serve the city of Chicago. Allow them the same courtesy to show why they should be promoted. Please use the merit system to do just that, promote amptly qualified people to do the job because they deserve it; because they have strong character; because they have shown you that they deserve the position they are asking to be promoted to. Not because of their ethnicity. We all took the same promotional test's, and lets face it some amptly qualified people are not great test takers. People who score high on a promotional exam are'nt always the best Detective's, Sergeant, or Lieutenant's on this job. Supt. Wies, there is a need for merit but keep it fair for everyone, dont continue to foster the same environment you were hired to change. Make us believe that you will change this Department for the better and give it it's good name back by placing amptly qualified people to do the job and do it right.
Lastly, for those of you who think this is a White officer sending this message. I am not, I am a Latino promoted meritoriously for doing his job, and not for his ethnicity. I love my job, and I love this Department and what it should stand for. I still have a lot to learn on this job, and I dont pretend to know everything. I keep my eyes and ears open and my mouth shut. Unbelieveable. I'm not a cop, just a citizen and I'm pretty surprised at Supt. Weis' idea about inviting these low life's into a police roll call. What the fuck? These assholes are criminals and they get privileges that an average citizen doesn't have access to? Why? Not that I would want it, but who the hell are they?
I'm very disappointed. I have been watching Weis on television and he seemed to be on to something, but this idea is ridiculous. And personally, I would be offended if I was a police officer and had to be subjected to that kind of access.
The only plus to this is that I am certain they will reveal their imbecelic selves, push way past the boundaries so that Weis can see this was an error in judgement.
I hope one of them insults the rank and file so Weis has to apologize to the uniformed officers.

What's the difference in what Jodi is doing and what Cline did? He brought all his close friends and gave them jobs, he promoted Steve Peterson because he knew him and they were FBI Academy brothers, he promoted a few others who he did not know and just got a good feel for them. All ex Superintendents did the same thing.
How does that make him smart by promoting Commanders to the upper ranks? I'm not an Exempt and will be retiring in a matter of months, but that is like promoting a Cadet to a Lieutenant. What about all the knowledge and experience you get going through all the positions in between? That aspect of intelligence, experience and strength is lost and will never be recovered.
Did Jodi or the Mayor ever look at the promotees track record? One has at least 2 sustained cr#s and one includes sexual harrassment, one is just plain or weird, one could not carry a conversation with a platter, and the main one is just plain old stupid. Look at some of the decisions they have already made and it has not even been a month!

We had a caveman in charge 4 years and he turned this department into clout heaven. Now we are changing and you complain? Let the reverend visit roll call, shut up for 15 minutes, then go out on street and enforce the law. We always win in the end. He has to listen to community leaders. Since he has been here, jackson is silent. Anything is better than Cline. Give him a chance or you can quit. White castle is hiring.
I have the right to come to work at my government job and not be preeched to. Just as I have the right to go to my church and not be subjected to politics and goverment issues. The first time I am instructed or ordered to stand a roll call agaist my wishes when any member of the Clergy is involved, I am going to cash in on the Chicago Police/City of Chicago Lottery.
Now before all you real police jump all over me. I have nothing against the Clergy (Real Clergy). I am a Christian, and I have the right to choose my own church and the right to choose where and when to attend.
So bring on the store front reverands, spar me when I refuse to participate and then be prepared to pay me(BIG TIME).
I will be able to retire next spring with 20 years, move far away from this Liberal Shit Hole of a City and never look back.

Here is a why for the Supt. Why are we a sanctuary city when ignoring the law and failing to enforce the law is a criminal act in itself. How can the 35th St. crowd want to put patrolmen in jail for breaking the law when they, and I mean all of them, are guilty of allowing the law to be broken. These are laws made and should be enforced for the protection of the citizens of the U.S., State, County and City. I am calling for the ARREST AND PROSECUTION of the police brass and polititions who refuse to enforce the law(s) no matter what department or political party.

I am amazed at the fear that permeates 35th st due to all the changes. Just so you have a feeling of who I am I am a PO with more than 15, less than 20 on. I was able to get a spot at 35th st (yes a spot, I admit it) approx 1 yr ago because of a boss I had worked for in the past. It was nice to have weekends off for the first time in my career but I knew, like anything else, this was only temporary. This being said I cannot believe how many POs and Sgts are so scared of going back to a district that they are already stabbing people in the back. If my detail ends tomorrow I have no problem going back to my car. Some of these people have been taken care of there who life and shake in fear of having to work a car.
I guess what I am saying is that whether you like J-fed or not at least he is shaking things up. He may have never been the Police but you would not believe the Officers I met at 35th St who were never the Police (Sgts, Lts Included)
I may be seeing you in a district soon. Please do not hold the fact my last assignment was at 35th St.
