Cougar Comments

You can hop over to the Tribune or the Sun Times and check some some truly ignorant comments. Ignorant not just from the standpoint that we (the police) should have snuggled the cute little pussy cat, found it a nice warm saucer of milk and maybe a small yuppie child to sate its hunger prior to finding it a fully furnished condo in Lincoln Park zoo, but ignorant in how the City and its different departments operate. A few points:
  • One of the comments asks why Animal Control wasn't called to take the cougar into custody. Animal Control is lucky to have two trucks up at any given time. Response times in our experience run from 5 hours to 3 days. And even if they show up with a tranquilizer gun, there's only one dosage for the dart - FATAL. You read that correctly. Animal Control only uses one dosage because to do otherwise might aggravate the animal beyond all control or unduly inflict pain. So to keep it simple for the Animal Control idiots, they only overdose animals. Daley's first round of budget cuts destroyed Animal Control years ago, leaving them undermanned, under equipped and full of incompetent political hacks - but who's going to complain? The dogs and cats?
  • Someone else bitched that after the recent pit bull attack of a woman by five strays, those dogs are in the pound and why aren't the police killing those dogs? Newsflash! CPD kills upwards of fifty, sometimes more dogs a year on the street, all without incident, news coverage or wounded bystanders. A certain new Captain was famous for it in a number of districts. Isn't a situation that ends with no civilians hurt, no cops hurt and only a completely replaceable air conditioning unit damaged something that ought to be chalked up as a win?
This is the public we've sworn to serve? That we're supposed to protect from not only four legged animals, but the two legged ones that will rob, rape, steal and kill them without a second thought? No wonder Daley is in a stuttering panic - his media puppets are raging out of control over a freaking cougar and it's making the citizenry edgy.

In the summmer of 2003, one of my weird neighbors kept 2 animals, similar to baboons, in his apartment. I remember running into him twice in the alley, with those creatures, not knowing he lived in my building and just thinking I had a bit too much to drink on the way home.

I found out later that he always took them out "for walks" late at night, so no one would see. On one of those nights, one of his monkeys (I'll call them monkeys 'cause I don't remember what breed of simian it was) ran off. Instead of calling the police, he left his back door open, thinking the monkey would come home. Well, it did, but to the wrong apartment.

When another of my neighbors opened his back door the next morning, the thing attacked him and tore up half of his apartment before it ran back out the door. The police were called and the chase was on.

That damn thing bent car antennas, climbed up on roofs, hissed and snarled at everyone and ran all over the neighborhood. The little kids thought it was funny.

When animal control finally showed up, the guy, who was as old as Methuselua, took a shot at the monkey and almost hit the sergeant instead. The thing was finally caught many hours later.

Fortunately, no one was hurt and a believe the monkeys were eventually turned over to a wildlife preserve. I still think my neightbor, who was promptly evicted, was having sex with those things.

Wake up people, these are wild animals, not house pets. The coppers by my house acted with restraint, but simians of all types have been known to attack, maim and kill people.

For once, the mighty midget said something that made sense when he said if that if the police hadn't killed the cougar and it attacked a child, the parents would sue the city.

It amazes me every day how some people managed to grow up so stupid.

Let's not get too bent out of shape about this. We'll have to remember how the liberals think.
They don't have a plan for anything. Just "good intentions." The only thing that they know how to do, since they have no real plans for anything based in reality, is is criticize the work of others. That way they can sound important at cocktail parties where they bad mouth their country and criticize everything about America so they can get laid by other idiots who think that's cool.
The only plans they have are ones that don't work. Communism. Great plan. Doesn't work. Disarm the police. Great plan. Doesn't work. Wild predatory animal that kills by ambush roaming through areas with lots of kids? Get out the special unit that carries the tranquilizer darts and nets so that the poor creature can be painlessly captured and go live in peace in the woods when released (Paul McCartny singing "Ebony and Ivory" in the background.) Great plan. Not reality.
Don't be angry with them. Pity them and make fun of them for being the idiots that they are. I, for one, find them very amusing. Try throwing facts at them. That really pisses them off. It's great entertainment. I love talking to liberal retards and seeing them get all flustered when you bring up facts that they can't spin. You should try it. It's more fun than messing with hood rats.
Oh, and I left you with a couple of typos so that you'll have something to criticize and feel better about yourselves for being so much smarter than me.

Capparelli was asked point blank at the meeting yesterday what was going on with his removal from the designation of field rep.

He sidestepped the question and simply said he was going to be working at a Detective Area very soon but would continue to perform his duties as Treasurer.

He is no longer working in the FOP office but presumably will be working as a detective. And I guess as Treasurer on the side.

Rich Aguilar will be coming inside to work in the FOP office.

Does anyone know what is up with this?

How would civilians know about budget cuts & Animal Control? My first thought was why were they called @ 11am and police response wasn't until after 5pm?

It's your spokesperson who should be throwing out that fact let alone what had to be used and why in this incident.

Your department does an extremely poor job in this way let alone no communication/relationship with civilians. My cousin has his sheriffs dept setup where civilians can login, get crime alerts, submit a non-emergency report, submit crime tips, etc. Chicago needs to get with the times.

When a police involved shooting occurs, it all boils down to public relations and perception. Nobody cares about a gangbanger's pit bull, or for that matter, the gangbanger himself. Only the "civil rights shakedown artists" care, and thats at election time. Then they retreat to thier beer distributorship and Tinley Park pasonage. When a beautiful, majestic puddy cat is killed, it will evoke sympathy and generate news. Remember the loop coyote? Everyone grew up watching Marlin Perkins Wild Kingdom

I some citizens ask me while I was getting coffee at the start of my tour why animal control wasn't utilized. I explained to them that this city's version is nothing like the shows they see on Animal Planet. The vehicles I have seen on calls only have they dog catch sticks in them, and a cage. No nets, tranq guns, sedatives, etc. I remember asking them once if they ever carried tranquilizers, and he told me "sometimes the supervisor does, if we have to take them down that's what you are here for."
Then I reminded the citizens that this is not California, Nevada, or the Dakotas, where this incident is something that happens on a semi-regular basis and they are prepared for such. We deal with dogs, cats, raccoons, and the occaisional coyote.
They then said they didn't realize this, and understood better that what was done had to be done. They saw that the media spin, and the publics' perception of things due to television doesn't pertain in all situations.
I felt good enough after this enlightening chat with the public that I got an event number for foot patrol/community relations mission.

Check out the story of Antoine Yates from the projects on 141st St. in Harlem.

NYPD responded to his apt. after he walked in to a hospital claiming he was bitten by a pit bull.

Animal lover Yates was housing his "pet" Ming, a 400 pound Siberian Bengal tiger mix and an alligator. Last I heard, Ming is now living in a big cat conservatory in Ohio.

The NYPD Emergency Service Unit brought Ming down with two tranquilizer darts after rappelling down the side of Yates' PJ and firing through the window at the tiger. ESU also had the luxury of waiting outside until Ming collapsed inside the apt.

Considering the circumstances in Chicago, ESU would have shot and killed the cougar, ideally with a rifle. Such a wild animal could cause injuries, even deaths, in an open area before falling to tranquilizer darts.

Doesn't the CPD have rifles, shotguns and fully automatic weapons available in all pcts. and detective squads?

If not, your mgmt. hasn't learned from incidents like the Bank of America shootout in North Hollywood. It was a miracle that no LAPD MOS were killed.

Is it true that you guys have to live within the city limits? That's insane.

Like Chicago, the NYPD can no longer recruit qualified new jacks. Everybody wants out.
The job is as dead as your cougar.
Twenty and out or a straitjacket.
Younger guys should go for a career change before it's too late.

2 of the 3 coppers that were indicted are from 008th district where i had the pleasure of working with them. i can tell you that both are great guys. How many times can u write in an arrest report EXACTLY what happened?laws areFOR the mutt criminals so we have been forced for years to be creative with our writing. Now we are being FUCKING INDICTED for locking up bad guys? Seriously, lets do exactly what the city wants. Be safe guys, write the paper exactly word for word how it happened. Yes everything will be thrown out and the city will be like Detroit by 2010, but who gives a fuck. Get your pension and move to a more conservative state where common sense may still prevail. These 2 coppers did exactly what thousands of us have been doing daily to put the bad guys behind bars and now THEY face 5yrs? Come on, STOP fucking doing police work. I dont care how cool you think u are and how badly u want to be the police. Is it worth going to prison for and leaving your kids behind? This world we live in today is not at all common sense smart. The bad guy is the winner and we as people who have been raised to know right from wrong are the ones being punished. Wake up guys, its not worth it. This shitty city IS NOT WORTH IT! if you chase a guy and he drops the dope 4 blocks from where u get him just write it that way. if the gun is 5 yards from where he dropped it and you didnt actually see it falling from his hand write it that way. FUCK IT! Let the city burn. Let the ghetto rats have their way and shoot each other, as long as its not in my neighborhood, I dont care anymore. I'm a dispatcher. At one of my prior depts, (in a fairly hi-tone Western suburb) this was a typical call:

911 caller: There's a WOLF sitting on my front lawn!!!
me: No sir, that's a coyote. We have lots of them around here. They are relatively harmless. Just don't let any smaller dogs outside until he leaves.
caller: I'm telling you, that's a WOLF. Get somebody over here!!
me: Sir, there are no wolves in this part of the country. What you are looking at is a coyote. They are very shy and afraid of humans as a rule. He will probably take off running the minute he sees you, so no need to panic.
caller: It's a WOLF!!!
me: OK, so it's a wolf. What's your house made of?
caller: What?!!
me: If it's brick, you should be safe. If it's made of straw, THEN you should be worried...

We better get in shape and stop drinking off duty thats where the problem lies...

Also we need to come up with about 10 more missions that well save anyhting...

Lets see...

We all know that you have to shoot a Cougar you cant let it run amok until Jaques Custeau and the Crocodile hunter come and tame it....

but does anyone actually believe the cougar "lunged" at the officers? If a cougar truly lunged it would be on the officers jugular before his hand can even begin to twitch for his gun...

can you say rule 14 violation?

He's a shit in the pants.Came on CPD from Glenview PD,did his recruit training in the old Marquette district. Was definately afraid of the street,my partner had him one night and told him they were going into Ogden Courts (now torn down)to see if the can catch pookie with a gun.He got physically sick and went home, refused to get out of the car, would'nt back my partner up.His wife is his clout she was wired in with DeLopez,I think she's a sgt somewhere inside.Delopez got him some B.S. donothing job in the academy.Couple of the Marquette guys were at the academy for IST and saw his name on his office door. They took the name tag off his door and glued it to the toilet seat in the mens (010)bathroom.Everytime you took a dump, you did it on V.B.I think they even took a picture and sent it to him.He was "NEVER" the police!

I read the posts on Topix and argued today with a couple of dense City workers who didn't get it about how the cougar situation was handled.

The officers that responded to the call were put in grave danger from this predator. Mountain lions are dangerous and will attack without hesitation. Those who responded and took the animal out have my deepest respect and admiration. All of you should be commended for your bravery.

It's a miracle that no one was injured or killed by the roving cougar. The animal was killed and no injuries to officers or citizens alike. I'd say this was an excellent outcome.

I'm a lifetime Sierra Club member and have hiked in numerous national parks and forests. The one animal that I fear encountering the most is a mountain lion. I don't live too far from where the animal was taken down, I certainly wouldn't have wanted to encounter it. I'm an animal lover, but realistic and realize how unpredictable and dangerous big cats are.

Thank you officers for a job well done.

Died suddenly as he was attempting to entice a lost cougar into his home. He was viciously mauled by the 150 lb cougar in front of children and reverends. The Cougar immediatley became sick and puked up his liberal ass. Tragically the cougar also died as the result of ingesting a deadly poison. How did Yates keep a 400 pound tiger in a housing project? It's not like he could take Ming out for a walk on a leash. A "litter box" would have to be the size of a dumpster. Perhaps the stench went unnoticed in the Harlem projects.

Real smart animal lover that she was,she pets the gray wolf,by sticking her arm through the bars. The wolf wakes up,thinks it is being attacked and takes her arm off. Brookfield PD are called and have to kill an endangered animal to attempt to retrieve her arm.

Bottomline, the liberal idiot caused the death of an endangered gray wolf while loosing her arm and putting policemen in harms way.

Caling animal care and control is a joke. They have very limited resources that cannot and never have responded in a timely manner. They are good people with good intentions but they just cannot respond to an emergency situation in a timely manner.
The officers did the right thing and anyone in their right mind should find no fault in their actions. Cougars are unpredictable wild life. That animal was in a neighborhood with children, how dare anyone judge those officers for putting not only their safety ay risk but ensuring that someones child was not cougar food. Do people understand its not like catching a dog or a cat, those cougars are extemely agile and fast. Those officers were lucky that that cougar was probably tired and they were able to shoot it. It is unfortunate that they had to kill the beautiful animal but peoples safety takes priority over a killer cougar.
I want to say thank you to those officers for keeping the neighborhood safe.

This poor displaced animal - an endagered species no less - was treated with less respect and concern than we treat gang bangers wayward pit bulls. Animal control SHOULD have been called and this poor lost animal should have been tranq'd, brought to our lovely yuppie zoo and then re-introduced into the wild. Geez, if you're so desperate to use your gun spend some more time on the range. For Pete's sake - what's next??? We're going to be given orders to shoot Pandas? Gray Wolves? Bald Eagles?
