Changes in Duty Status?

Rumblings abound over some meeting allegedly held downtown regarding the status of light duty personnel. One story has these people being shipped out to desk spots across the City, thereby freeing up able bodied personnel for street duty.

This doesn't address the bid spots that are covered under the contract, that same contract that J-Fed and his cronies seem to have so much trouble understanding protects certain jobs.

Another story has these people being forced off the job and accepting some form of duty disability. Again, they are covered under an existing labor contract and simply forcing them off the job would probably violate any number of clauses.

Anyone have the real story?

Slightly off topic but I apologize. Field Detectives ( not inside people) are being detailed out of the Areas to help with the Waste of Chicago! First time in 15 years as a dick I've seen this. What a joke.... and a waste of already limited resources. I'm sure our guys will eat well at least.

But I do know this: if the public found out that an officer can spend months off with pay while recuperating from some injury or other without having to take light duty, we'd have a full scale taxpayer revolt on our hands.

Not that I'm complaining, but the contract's a little too good.

there is/was supposed to be an info meeting (sponsored by FOP?)re: the city's contract proposal in art. 18.3 (on FOP website); city wants to limit non-IOD limited duty to one year for every four years senority (overall limit five years l/d); anyone on l/d if proposal goes into effect has 180 days to return to full duty, or use up remaining medical, retire, resign, or apply for disability pension; didn't hear about moving l/d folks to the field, though...

If J-Fed means desk spots as in bidded district desk spots then that move would cost the city a great deal of money. Any bidded desk officer that would be displaced by these light duty officers would be entitled to time and a half for every day they are off the desk. There are 1 to 2 bidded desk spots for every watch in every district in the city. There also is usually 2 to 3 bidded watch relief spots on every watch. Can you see how quickly those time and a half figures would escalate? Do you think King Ritchie would like that kind of wasted expenditure of money? These bidded spots are part of the contract and are bid for based on seniority. Why does J-Fed fail to grasp the concept of a union contract?
J-Fed I've got a better idea for you. I know of districts that have 3 to 4 Commander's secretaries, 3 timekeepers, 2 crime analysts, 2 tact secretaries and at least 14-15 C.A.P.S. officers. None of these spots are protected by any part of the contract. Wouldn't this be the most logical place to put these light duty officers? The displaced officers would have no grounds for grievance since their cush positions aren't protected by contract. You could probably free up 8-12 people per district doing that. If someone, with any insight into how this department works, were to scrutinize most A&A sheets they'd be amazed at how many bodies are hidden away unavailable to street duty. A lot of these positions are simply made up to take care of the"chosen ones". J-Fed are you listening? If you have competent people around you they could tell you that what I say is true.

The way I understand it is the city wants to cut the light duty PO’s that are non-IOD.
At this point in time the city is not under any obligation to keep a PO on light duty status if they are not injured on the job. That being said if you are lucky enough to get a light duty position for a non-IOD the city wants to limit your time to 180 days then you would have to apply for ordinary disability at 50% with no raises, 1 yr for every 4 years on the job up to 5 yrs max. When you are on ordinary disability, you have to pay taxes on the money you would be awarded and your own health insurance.
Now keep in mind just because the CPD makes the determination you are unable to perform your job as a police officer it is not a guarantee you will be awarded disability. You must present a good solid case to the pension board as to why you should be awarded disability. So get a good attorney to guide you if you have to cross that bridge.

Section 18.2 - Non-I.O.D.
Any officer absent from work on account of non-I.O.D. injury or illness for any period of time not exceeding twelve (12) months in any twenty-four (24) consecutive month period, shall receive full pay and benefits for the period of absence, provided such injury or illness is certified by the Medical Services Section. Such certification shall not be unreasonably withheld.

Section 18.3 - Limited Duty I.O.D.
Officers injured in the line of duty, who are certified by the Medical Services Section as being able to perform limited duty assignments, shall be given limited duty assignments until they can perform regular duty assignments, or until they are mandatorily retired, whichever occurs first.

Section 18.4 - Recognized Openings.
Any officer who is certified by the Medical Services Section as being able to perform a limited duty assignment may be placed by the Employer in a recognized opening, as defined in Section 23.9, notwithstanding anything in Section 23.9 to the contrary.

City’s proposal

Article 18–Disability Income
Section 18-3(a)–Non-IOD Limited Duty
Offers officers up to one year of limited duty assignment for
every four years of seniority with a maximum of five years of
limited duty assignments
Officers in limited duty status on the date of implementation of
this provision who are in excess of the above terms have 180
days to return to a full duty status, exhaust medical roll time,
retire, resign, or apply for disability benefits.

Too many coppers inside skating.

I believe this came up under Cline. They wanted to make all the light duty officers, that were not IOD related resign or retire, then hire them back at a much lower rate, and place them all in administrative positions. One other city has done this, I believe it is Baltimore. I would have to think that someone hooked up is on light duty from a non IOD circumstance, or it would have already come to pass. Watch each other believe me this City / Department cares very little about you or your family.

The FOP web site shows what the city has offered in terms of a new contract and one of the things that they want to change is the light duty status. They are proposing that someone would be able to remain on light duty only 1year for evey 4 years of service and then you would have to either resign or apply for duty disability. Based on the condition of our pension fund and that they do not want to grant duty diability unless someone is literally in a wheelchair and drooling, I can't see this happening or I can see someone filing a law suit because this is just another way to screw someone out of their pension. I don't think alot of people know how bad the disability system already is as far as how long you have to wait in order to receive even 50%. The average person who runs out of medical time, usually because the city and the doctors drag their feet, waits about 12 weeks to get their first check. It's retro from the first day off the regular medical but in the mean time you have no income and are paying for your own medical insurance, as well. The FOP needs to make the membership aware of the fact that it's not only the raises that are at stake with this contract but benefits, as well.

I do agree that there are some officers on the job who are seriously injured and should be given special consideration by allowing them to work inside. However, we all know someone that has been on light or limited duty status for a very long time and they are fakers and shakers who milk the system inorder to stay off the street. I say to management, please take a closer look at these people.

Please make sure you define your light duty Officers, there are some legit ones who are duty realted and have no choice but to be light duty.
Where they should be attacking people and investigating is the Ofcs on Duty Disability, who are abusing the sysytem & our pension. How does who gets shot, can not walk normally anymore get back on the job, but a person with a broken wrist gets permanant disability, because they have to wear a splint. Put those dogs behind a desk, let them push paper, instead getting a second job to supplement their income and collect from the city with free benefits & pension. The hard working POs who have to go on IOD or light duty and cannot work special, airports, 2nd jobs, etc...
What a screw job forget medical integrity, how about Disability integrity.

That was by Lt. Joe G, 2nd Watch Lt in 019. His CR alleged that the Captain discriminated against him because he is Italian and thus created a hostile work environment. Can you believe that? Anyone who knows Lt. Joe G. knows how ludicrous that one is. He knew that since he was a bid Lt in 019 that it would be easier to move the Captain than the Lt. He was right, the Captain was moved, to the detriment of the officers on the watch who Lt. joe G. now is on course to screw over.

Real reason: Likely it was a wannabee love affair that never happened and the short, fat and bald Lt. Joe G. had his ego crushed.

I am one of the numerous females in 019 that Captain DD turned on daily. Beware 017, she is a spiteful, vindictive, and vengeful person. DD thinks everything on this job is about her. God forbid if she thinks anyone on the watch is more popular she'll do her best to make life misable for them. There were at least 10 females who went into the new commander to complain about the mistreatment of them by this beotch of a captain. The Lt. talked about on the blog I know would rather eat his gun then have anything to do personally with this witch of an individual. And fellow bloggers from what I've learned about this witch, she prefers married men. I know for a fact that the Lt. was being harrassed by this captain for sticking up for the po's that the captain tried screwing around. There is no way the Lt. would ever have anything to do with this witch.

She was moved because of all the complaints that were being received daily by the new commander. I don't know anything about a CR the Lt. supposedly got on her, but if he did it probably was well deserved. I am one of the officers that the captain berated daily while she was in 019. I did my best to stay out of her sight. The woman should be psyched.

Quick to slam SCC. JFED is amazed at the amount of non-IOD light duty personnel. At 35th street they are everywhere. Someone has a minor back injury and is light or limited duty for ten years. No details with inside job. This is rampant and Weiss is starting to deal with it. At least re-assess light or limited duty personnel every year. Justify the status. If you are tired of SCC, move on little man.

The City wants to somehow limit the number of non\IOD light duty positions. Presently there are over 600 PO's in this situation. The city wants to put a cap of around 200 on this and is bringing it up with the union during the ongoing contract negotiations.

This means that around 400 will be forced to retire, resign or somehow get back to full duty within 180 days (6 months) of this going into effect and after exhausting all their allowed non IOD light duty time. An officer spoke bitterly about this at the last FOP meeting alleging that the FOP is or would be selling those 400 officers out. The alternative is to take the city to court and quite probably lose all non-IOD light duty positions.

So the union is figuring that it is better to have 200 guaranteed non\IOD light duty positions in the contract than to risk having none at all with a court fight.

Other police unions that have gone to court against their cities have lost. All of then. they lost 100% of their non\IOD light duty positions. So it is probably better to keep some of those spots and have them guaranteed than to lose them all.

No doubt the majority of the officers in this department will know nothing of this except the cry will go up that the "FOP is doing nothing, fuck the FOP" and all the usual bullshit screamed regularly by the uninformed.

It is better to save some spots and have them guaranteed than to risk losing them all I feel. But then I am in a decided minority as I try to use logic and common sense.

Officers will be wise to get some type of disability insurance just in case some catastrophe falls on them and is not covered by IOD etc.

The disability insurance now sold through the city guarantees 60% salary for life if an officer is disabled by some non IOD injury or illness. I am near the end but if officers are offered that insurance again it is a good thing to get. Cover your own ass, you know.

Great, another short bus troll who has no idea about what the blog is about.

We are looking for INFORMATION to confirm or debunk a RUMOR that reached us you simpleton. If it gets to us, it's gotten all over the place, and how better to inform the readers than get them the necessary info? Rumor Central doesn't exist any more. The FOP won't "negotiate" in the media even though the City does it every day. The FOP website is so reactive and behind it might as well be in a time warp. We haven't seen a rep since before the election.

And every time someone is reassigned to Patrol, it affects dozens of people. Maybe not right away, but when the details come up or the relief bids or the annual watch bids? That doesn't affect everyone? You're an idiot AND an asshat.

HERE JUNIOR HOPE YOU GET AN "A" OR AT LEAST ANOTHER CHANCE UNDER THE DESK...

Morale, also known as esprit de corps when discussing the morale of a group, is an intangible term used for the capacity of people to maintain belief in an institution or a goal, or even in oneself and others. The second term applies particularly to military personnel and to members of sports teams, but is also applicable in business and in any other organizational context, particularly in times of stress or controversy.

According to Alexander H. Leighton, "morale is the capacity of a group of people to pull together persistently and consistently in pursuit of a common purpose".[1]

I see too many P/Os that are perfectly healthy dogging it on IOD and light duty. Free up those spots at HQ,court section, and anywhere else. Put them back on the street and those officers working the desk (not on a bid) can hit the street too. Whatever happened to the plan of a desk sgt. and one P/O on the desk with civilians? Too many coppers inside skating.

Before they think about doing what your sorry as says the Dept needs to get rid of the able bodied PO'S with clout.

I am in 19 and the jerk who type about Lt. IAD Check April 22 or 23 rd he was excused sick but doesn't reflect that on A & A sheets that was his reward for driving the captains daughter to and from school and believe me he was rewarded often. He is the biggest piece of garbage in 19 and has been since he's been on the job. She surrounded herself with all the dogs on the watch.....I was at roll call when the captain attacked the lt. by degrading his daughter in front of the whole roll call. The lt. took exception the captain made this derogatory comment about his daughter. I think anyone of us would have done the same. What gives her the right to embarrass anyone or their family on or off the Job... I was there and the lt. had every right to be angry. The Captain was all about hurting and bullying people who she thought were weaker than her. She abused the office of captain daily. And wagon guy make the call and do us a favor.. follow her to 017 and good riddance.

If duty disabillity is paid from a separate fund, then why is that when your year on the medical roll is up, it takes them 3 months to even place you on the agenda for 50% and 6 months or longer to get a hearing for 75%? For some of us, who were injured on duty, not only is it a battle to get good medical care and deal with a difficult post surgical recovery but you are also faced with the stress of not being paid, "ANYTHING" for 3 months or more! Those of you who think this is a great benefit, need your heads examined! Try paying your bills, including your own medical insurance for almost 4 months with no income, only to receive 50%, pending a hearing for 75% when it was an on duty injury. I'm sure they can tell the difference between those who are milking the system and the people who have required multiple surgeries, endured a tremendous amount of pain as well as a difficult recovery in order to try to just regain some quality of life! Trust me, I would much rather have never been injured and still working then dealing with the chronic pain and inability to sleep. Please don't put all of us in the same category because there are those of us with significant injuries and not bee stings!

Just remember what you guys are wishing for with the elimination of LD jobs.
It is currently a contracted item that the city wants to eliminate/cease/curtail.

Once you loose a contracted item = you will NEVER see it again.

Over the past 27yrs. we have given up many items from our original contract. We have gained many items from our original contract.

Remember, if you give something up from your contract you better get something in return = which we NEVER have.

What happens to you or your partner who develops some catostrophic disease like cancer or MS? What happens when you have a heart attack at 35, with 10 years on the job?
If you give up this LD what happens is that you are forced to retire/seek pension benefits/ disability benefits of which you are only entitled to 1 year for every five that you have worked =
2 yrs for that 35 yrs old with 10 yrs on!

Don't be so quick to critize some of the LD's. There are just as many legit on LD as there are illegit.

DON'T GIVE UP CONTRACT BENEFITS
EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I had back surgery in Nov '99. Unfortunately for me, tax wise, it was non-IOD. I was off work for 5 months. When I went to the medical section to get released, I had a letter from my surgeon stating I could go back full duty.

A few years down the road, I happened to take a look at the unit seniority roster. Low and behold, I was listed as light duty. This was a full 5 years AFTER my surgery.

It took numerous phone calls, To-From reports and several faxes (I always keep copies of anything medical or otherwise related to this job) to get this straightened out.

My point is, is that some of these LD people may not even realize they are LD (but I seriously doubt it).

In the month of June they fired 4 recruits! 2 for sit ups; 1 for not listing all the jos he applied to on his application and 1 for a rule violation, he lied because he failed to do a DUI w/a veteran PO.
So for all of 2008 we will be putting out 99 recruits on the street. The ones starting in July won't be out until Jan 2009!

The former DC of 019 wouldn't give the 2nd watch any extra officers because he despised Capt DD and Sgt TH. Luckily 019 is in the top 5 of slow dists and no officers ever got hurt because of the incompetant leadership in 019.

Your the coward, your the one who is blind. I know a handful of people on Duty Disability, one female hurt her wrist, got DD,and now she is a H.S. cheerleading coach on the southside, one guy also hurt his wrist, goes hunting almost every weekend and works various jobs, all while collecting 75% from the city + benefits & pension. Not a bad part time job! If those people have 10 years on the are collecting $53,000 a year TAX free. Sounds real rough. The first 4 months might be hard, but as it was said, pay is retro, so after 4 months you get a decent chunk of change to pay late bills, if you are even late on any.
Please dont tell me people want off of Duty Disability, once your on collecting your 53,000 and then go get another cushy job paying $50,000 a year, sound terrible to me!!

If you're not a dog, Capt. DD will leave you alone. If you're female and a dog, you probably got the worse of it and you deserved it.

This isn't true. Some of the females on the watch know alot more than her 7 year wonders. They didn't get rewarded for hard work they got jacked around. How else do you explain her listing people on early cars that worked inside? Why not give the early cars to people who aren't trying to work inside?

What a little bunch of wimps-marching into the new Commander's office-if your numbers were up and you acted like the police, you would have been left alone.

Perhaps the Commander was trying to sort thru rumors and asked for people to come in and talk to him. He didn't know anything about that district when he got there. He had to ask around. I believe his first dealing with her was when she walked in his office wanting to deny time to a SGT for NO REASON. (other than she doesn't like her)

Cry baby females make it tough for those of us who want to be the police instead of those taht are simply here to be window dressing or desk dolly wanna bees.

Obviously there is some merit to the complaints or she wouldn't have been moved. I guess you were one of her chosen people and now you are a little nervous. When JRD gets wind of how many do nothings were taken care of, there will be a little re-do of the beat officers. I give it a period. LOL Say goodbye to your early car boys!

I do not love our union but the blame FOP first mentality is juvenile. Talk to the few officers you can find who were on the job prior ro Jane Byrne. It may be a eye opener for you.

This L/D status was looked at least 10 yrs. ago by the city. I was IOD L/D for a total of 14 months after being T-boned by a drunk who fell asleep at the wheel. I was assigned to work for 9 months at 11th and State (it sucked) until I went back full duty against my Dr.’s orders. As late as 2006 the city was ready to make officers they thought that were scamming see an independent Dr. different than their personal physician or the city Dr. I know one of the nurses that used to work down there at the Medical Section. But that was nixed because way tooooo.... many of those on the list had clout! Watch how many of the walking wounded get healed quickly if they find out they will go into a non-pay status. Our contract does not guarantee a job for life or 600 L/D spots either. If they can guarantee the IOD and 200 L/D spots that is great because the Baltimore decision went all the way thru the federal courts. They got rid of everyone. It is better to get something on paper in this contract because if we don’t what keeps the city from implementing the Baltimore decision down the road?

As far as assigning L/D people to the desk and pushing the 6 extra people to the street is OK with me. My roll call is empty but the parking lot is full with cars from the CAPS office that has three times the authorized strength! If Jody put out an order that W/C’s will be the subject of a CR# if they sign A&As that show people on the street that are actually working upstairs we could man at least 7 more cars on days alone! Plus another 5 to 6 on the desk!

J-Fed should order a fire drill next week at HQ and make all the people stand in the parking lot by rank. He will see that there are way to many young Sgt.s in that building. In the army we had one Sgt for every eight grunts. You have one Sgt for every three grunts. Then have all the P.O.s and Sgt.s with revolvers go back into the building. I think he will see that the building has way too many young females, most who are related by birth or marriage to your command staff! That’s your answer Jody. Send everyone with less than 15 yrs. back to patrol!

You could start with your own office boss. Yes you should pick your own staff. But how many of your full duty people could be replaced by L/D IOD officers? How many of your own staff have full duty family members on the job and and not working in the field? Before you rain on everyone else you could put your own house in order. Lead by example sir. But I’ll bet you are being kept in the dark by your own staff or your exempts about those little secrets.

I you want to get rid of all of us old guys tell the city to lower the age to 55 with 25 yrs of service for the health care and you will see a lot of us who came on after tours of duty in Nam leave. Even 57 would get maybe 400 of us to leave. It saves the city a lot of money too! And you could have a lot of young kids with glock’s chasing people.

1977 revolver police!

Light duty officers that exercise while working. LD officers that work overtime yet are exempt from details unless they benefit from details. Easy to seperate legit LD from BS LD officers. LD officers working in jobs that are budgeted for civilians? The system is horribly abused with no oversight. Weiss is now understanding the scope of the problem. Instead of giving up this contract provision, establish rules and criteria to prevent abuse.

I work for the CTA and I;m on workmens Comp I got injured in an accident and receive 75% workmens comp I also received a check for pain as well. over 85 thousand, the city at one time was trying to give CTA the same benefits as fireman and police but we rejected it.I'm sure happy we did. Workmens comp is what the general public receives for injuries who also receive money for pain, yet you don't. Sorry for you

Thanks for the info. If our Union was somewhat sharp we'd be getting the same benefits as bus drivers and other city workers. But, as with other past FOP leaders, they've failed the membership on so many occasions that we are left with literally nothing. Do they all have Caymen Island bank acocunts or are they just stooges being led around by city officials? Can't wait to see what these lame brains are negotiating for in the next contract. 1 1/2 percent raise. Yippee

The situation with LD looks like the department will take all or most LD spots away and dare the FOP to sue knowing the FOP will likely lose that suit just like all the other unions have done in other cities, most recently Baltimore.

Or, the FOP can negotiate a defined number of LD spots and get it in the contract. Lose all or save some will be the decision to be made.

To all officers who have less than about 17 years or so or on the job and/or are far away from age 50, you better get yourself some type of disability insurance to take care of yourself in case of Non IOD injury or sickness.

The city intends to get rid of most or all of those 600 PO's who are on LD and exchange those budgeted positions for full duty PO's.

That is the fact of the matter.

It is also a fact that if the FOP sues it will almost certainly lose. So probably the best that we can hope for is to get at least some guaranteed LD spots.

Add to this the fact that the civilians' union, AFSCME, is beefing that LD PO's are taking jobs that rightfully belong to AFSCME.

Like it or not that is the scenario. Better buy that disability insurance until you have enough time on to get a pension at least equal to what the disability insurance will pay.

The city offers it to new hires and to all PO's periodically, if you get it, never let it lapse, at least not until you get vested up to 60% pension. (23 years and a day) After that you don't need it.

Ever tried to come back from light duty? Or get released after an IOD related surgery? I have, and it sucks. You see, the lazy house mice that work there would actually have to fill out a piece of paper releasing you, and it's SO much easier to simply say "see ya in 3 weeks". The ONLY person there worth his salt is the poor sgt. that is stuck with this lazy group of po-nurses. To get anything done down there takes a call to a supervisor. Start there before blame is thrown at all the po's..... while a lot are certainly milking the situation, a lot of guys are stuck due to lazy lazy LAZY po-nurses.

You are RIGHT! I'm one of the officers who unfortunately had a few hand injury's during my 23 years of working the street answer calls in ghetto dist. I have nerve damage to my gun hand and am unable to use a firearm alone with taking a narcotic for pain. Please take note your pension fund does not pay injured officers the city has set up a fund because they have an agreement with the state not to pay them workmens comp. The fund is flushed with cash as it is not used that often (believe it) also the officer is paying into our pension fund you have NO lose from the fund. give it a rest and give us a break????

I'm a non-IOD limited duty officer who had 25 years on when an off duty accident put me in this position. Since then, I can't work 2nd jobs, airport, special employment, CTA or get promoted. I have to send documentation to the medical section every year to show why I should remain on limited duty. I would trade my inside job to have all that back and be 100% healthy again. I still have kids in school. I'm glad that I can still work in some capacity on this job because it helps pay the bills. I hope that we don't lose this benefit, not so much for myself, as I should be able to retire by the time the contract is settled, but for any of the younger brothers/sisters in blue who may have to face this predicament some day.

Since it's being offered, I'm going to the meeting on Jul 8 at 35th St all purpose room at 1700 hrs to hear what the FOP has to say about the city's proposal. If you're interested in hearing about what would happen if we lose this benefit, it is probably in your best interest to show up and hear for yourself.

There is no way the Lt. would ever have anything to do with this witch

You are one of the do nothing females that LT joe tried to get into you're pants. If Capt DD screwed with you it is because you are a do nothing lazy dog that blows off you're jobs then goes crying like babies that she is picking on you. The capt is a class act and got the shit end of this one. Lt joe knows all about these type of cr#s because of the the 4 that he has received in the past for trying to date the po's under his control. Just look at the females that date him and you will get a good look at him. His newest catch is that fire plug that he excuses every other day and they are in the same DOG. I hope the po on midnights that she is dating knows what she does with the LT when they leave together, too bad because the po is a great guy I hope this wakes you up and dump her as fast as you can. Capt DD hang in there because there are way more in you're corner than his 4 friends on the watch 3 po's and that psycho racist sgt

You are IOD when you get hurt on the job with intentions of coming back to work which you collect 100%full pay. If it is determined you can never work again you collect Duty Disability. The CTA person was talking about Workmans Compensation which is like IOD for them but is also different than Duty Disability. Most private companies do not give you full pay when you collect workmens compensation during a work related injury its usaully 60%. SO YES WE DO GET FULL PAY WHEN YOU GET HURT AT WORK and are on IOD and all the taxes you paid on that income while you were IOD, you claim at the end of the year on your W2 which means its tax detuctible..NUMNUTS. You get 75% pay, tax free and your insurance for yourself paid in full after it is determined you can never work again therfore you collect Duty Disability....NUMNUTS

75% pay, tax free and your insurance for yourself paid in full. THATS CALLED DUTY DISABILITY NUMNUTS!

Private sector collects Workmans Compensation for lets say a broken leg which happened at work. Most companies only pay 60% of wages during Workmans Comp claim. If you break a leg on CPD YOU COLLECT FULL PAY and the taxes you pay on your salary get claimed at the end of the year which means tax deductible/you get the tax back. In both CPD and private sector you collect Disability when its learned you can never work again thats when you get 75% pay, tax free and your insurance for yourself paid in full in CPD. Maybe the CTA guy meant hes on Disability. You only get workmans comp before it is determined you can never work again. After its determined you get disability. There is a difference.

Better yet, come to 019 and see how f*^%ed up it really is when the best boss there is on midnights, the 2nd watch w/c is the bitch that she is (was), and the 3rd watch w/c is a truly out of his mind, socially inept, psychopath...then you'd understand. You'd probably walk away, shaking your head, but you'd understand. 019 is like no other district ANYWHERE in the city. You really have to experience it to know where it's all coming from. lol

You get 75% pay, tax free and your insurance for yourself paid in full after it is determined you can never work again therfore you collect Duty Disability....NUMNUTS
____________________________
Wrong again. Very few of the officers collecting duty disability collect 75% for life. Most receive 75% with no raises for 7 years. At that time you are at about 60% and you receive raises to keep you at that level. No duty availability (so you never get a pension based on that) and no uniform alowance. No overtime and no special employment. If you are able to travel, 60% isn't enough to do much. Did I mention that you still have to live in the city and go for yearly checkups (even if you have one arm). Then some copper stops you for running a stop sign and tells you that you look healthy enough to him to work. Thanks Doctor! Mostly you just sit around and wait to die.

Slightly off topic but I apologize. Field Detectives ( not inside people) are being detailed out of the Areas to help with the Waste of Chicago! First time in 15 years as a dick I've seen this. What a joke.... and a waste of already limited resources. I'm sure our guys will eat well at least.

**Grievance!!!!!

Actually, read your contract. That detail is specifically spelled out and must be bid out. It's a contract "Benefit." If you are a senior Detective and want it, bid for it. If no one bids for it, it's reverse senority.

That's why field dicks are going.

Nice try though.

There can be no grievance.

I had a surgery, off 6 weeks. Some have heart problems etc.. If we lose here just wait and see what happens when you have 25yrs on the job. New PO's think nothing about this, is all about the $ and next drink or new SUV. Wait when you are 50 and have 10 to go. WAKE UP POPLE!!!! Problem with out society is no one cares about the future.

YES , LD is abused so crack down on this. Oh thats right if its a F or M/1 we cant touch it so get rid of it all together so now people with Cancer of Heart problems are fucked. NICE

Maybe the CTA guy meant hes on Disability. You only get workmans comp before

How about that large check I received for pain?? Do you get that? I was hurt 3 times during my 26 years and each time I received a check for pain, Mind you I needed it as I was in pain hard to have a knee replacement. From what I understand you get nothing for pain and suffering. Its the right thing to do as I was unable to work my second job or coach my baseball team with my kids.

######################################################################

I worked for DD some years back and she SPARED me for taking too much time off of work = Personal days, BFD's, Comp time, etc.
I was going thru a rough patch and needed the time off to get things straight.
She approved the time off = slips put in and approved.
Yet, she still spared me for taking too much time off.
I actually took one day for it!
I agree with the poster above and can only wish a flying house would fall on her.
She truely is the Wicked Witch of CPD!!!!!!

Now, if only any of those nimble coed's you see, and lust for, every day, would stop laughing at you, you might have something better to do with your time and energies, than post evidence of your impotency on blogs.

If only.........

You and you're LT boyfriend are the reason she got dumped. Stop screwing you're way to the desk.
Were you mad when she put you're ass out on the street because the 2 min you have on the job is not needed at the desk. After she put you out you went IOD for 3 mo then wanted to add another 14 days to that so you could vacation. Leave the LT alone he has his eyes set on the dark haired female in the front office you know her the 1 that is about 50lbs lighter than you. I hope the new Capt can see through all of his BS and watches out for the rest of us like DD did

Anyone have info on the Cr# the cocky Lt.G from 2nd watch obtained against the 2nd watch Capt.that made her transfer out to the 017th District.Love affair gone bad?

Yeah it is an EEOC beef that this cocky Lt. G. got on the Capt. He has a long long history on this Dept. and not a good one. Many enemies, he believes he is liked but many in 019 cant stand him. He doesnt except this, and in his mind he believes he's liked. He has a civil lawsuit pending from a po he screwed over. Good Luck po hope you win. You can view this bald headed old man by wrigley field trying to hit on young dumb women. Its gross!! A "real man". My Capt. picks on me so Im filing a complaint, whawhawha

Royal asshole snake in the grass back stabbing son of a bitch is more like it.

6/27/2008 06:44:00 PM

Thank you for your honesty, could not agree with you more, many of us feel the same way. The dept. is looking at another lawsuit, if he isnt moved also. Ask the 3rd watch about his antics prior to him moving to 2nd watch.
The only favorable comments are from himself!!!!!!!

How about the 4 or 5 only fans of the Hispanic only DD Fan Club, throw in your par forms ASAP to join DD in 017 where you can regain all your special favors, leave early, start late, any starting time you like regardless of what cars assigned, excused with slips held only for the loyal cabana members! Yes we know why you are crying DV,RM,& Neita LOL Move on whiners! The watch commander change affects no one else on the entire watch and no one else cares about you having all your specials perks taken away drama queens! Quit embarasssing the rest of 2nd watch...really you are like tiresome nats at this point in time.

Hey J. El. , quit defending your boy-toy Lt. G. It would be a shame if your midnight guy found out.
You hadn't 'done' a boss since Billy retired a few years ago.

Remember boys and girls we now have a Director of the Personnel Division who is a female 1 attorney. She knows nothing about police work and has the mandate to "clean up" the L/D issue. Watch her carefully!!! She is a piece of work who although allegedly highly educated stills "axes" question. Typical affirmative action fool. Watch her and keep your lawyer’s phone number handy.

019 Lt. G is one of the most hated men on the dept. He has numerous suits against him for sexual harrassment. He just doesn't get it--he's not appealing to any sane woman--he tries to use his bars to push people around. The only friends he has are losers like him. Question? Does anyone remember the gallows-bad lieutenant. He's been doing the same stuff for years and getting away with it. Come on girls, tell your stories.

Cabana boy? Try a working police women with 20 + on the job. I've seen too many useless females get inside cushy spots by layin on their backs. And now they're wanting to get rid of ld po's. Put the females on the street and let the old timers inside. Maybe a fast dist would teach them to be the real police. They might actually enjoy it, rather than spreading vile gossip. Don't have much use for little desk dollies. But old salts shouldn't get kicked to the curb.
