Meeks All Over the Map

  • Meeks and several supporters met Senate colleague Jeff Schoenberg (D-Wilmette) and north suburban school and police officials at the Northfield police station. They then took a bus tour of the elementary and high school campuses in New Trier Township which are expected to be the focus of the protest.

    Meeks said the intent was to get a better sense of the logistics that would be involved in bringing the students to the North Shore to attempt to register for classes.

    He said he saw no point in bringing students to the suburbs before Chicago's opening day of school, Sept. 2, even though most north suburban districts are starting school this week or next.

    “If we'd had them here today, no one would have paid attention to it,” Rev. Meeks said, explaining his decision not to try to begin classes on the same timetable as north suburban students.

Newsflash Meeksie - most people aren't going to pay attention anyway. The media might fawn over your theatrics, but if you've noticed, they're laying off people left and right and don't have the pull they once did. Northfield PD might pay attention for a while, but that's only prudent. New Trier might pay attention as you march around the campus, but until state law changes, no one is going to let any of your kids sign up, not unless they live in the district.

You want to make school funding more "equitable," change the formula. We have 30 years of data backing up the assertion that throwing money at CPS doesn't work.

Hey SCC, I got an interesting E-mail today..

HOW LONG DO WE HAVE?
About the time our original thirteen states adopted their new constitution in 1787, Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh , had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years earlier:

'A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government.'

'A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.'

From that moment on, the majority always vote for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse due to loose fiscal policy, which is always followed by a dictatorship.'

The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years'

During those 200 years, those nations always progressed through the following sequence:

1. from bondage to spiritual faith;
2. from spiritual faith to great courage;
3. from courage to liberty;
4. from liberty to abundance;
5. from abundance to complacency;
6. from complacency to apathy;
7. from apathy to dependence;
8. from dependence back into bondage'

Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law, St. Paul ,Minnesota , points out some interesting facts concerning the 2000 Presidential election:

Number of States won by: Democrats: 19 Republicans: 29
Square miles of land won by: Democrats: 580,000 Republicans: 2,427,000
Population of counties won by: Democrats: 127 million Republicans: 143 million
Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Democrats: 13.2 Republicans: 2.1
Professor Olson adds: 'In aggregate, the map of the territory Republican won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of this great country. Democrat territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in government-owned tenements and living off various forms of government welfare...' Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the 'complacency and apathy' phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already ;having reached the 'governmental dependency' phase.

Two solutions:
Raise the property taxes in the ghetto. They do not pay what we pay.

OR...rent some apartments Section 8 in the New Trier area.
It won"t take long before N.T. will be just like Corliss or CVS.

They will however ber hiring more police.

Why should I pay for someone elses kids? If those parents dont want to work then why should my hard earned money pay their way?! Let them find a job, get off welfare, link, ssi, etc. so they can pay for their own kids education with their tax dollars. And dont bring up the issue of not finding work cuz immigrants do it all the time. I've seen some who've worked up to 3 jobs to make sure their kids were well looked after.

CPS can be improved if
1. Central Office gets its head out of its a## and lets schools solve some of their problems wihtout the red tape. Overcrowding in one school can be helped by leasing a few classrooms nearby. But no...it takes CPS one year to do a safety evaluation to get it approved! In the meantime, students lose out with classrooms sizes 37+. Many schools can solve their individual problems if Central Office would just let go! I bet there is alot of money that could be saved by streamlining Central Office.

2. Alot of the problems with students are the distractions before, during and after school. These are social issues NOT education issues. There are children out there having children who have no idea how to be a parent. Children need to be taught right from wrong in terms of behavior and respect. This is supposed to be taught by your parents at home! Stop spending education money on social problems. Make students accountable for their actions.

3. Much more money is given to the problem schools and what are the results???? Money is not the answer.

4. Instead of money going to training for teachers, books, buildings etc....we are dumping money into security. If they were taught right from wrong in the first place, there would not be a need for as much security.

5. Students are not always seeing the big picture and their future. Why go to school and get a good job if the government will hand you money for doing nothing and your side job of selling drugs etc will get you that big flat screen and new car? No motivation. Cut the aid if you don't go to school.

6. Parental involvement. Huge lack of it. Parents are the educational support system. MOM AND DAD need to do their parts. Not only with homework but know where your children are. Know who they are hanging with and what they are doing. School does not end when the bell rings.

Say that the students were allowed to register and attend New Trier...how are they going to get there.. every day on time for classes? The parents can't get their kids to school on time when school is across the parking lot...much less all the way to Winnetka....that being said..this "protest" is bullshit..and Meeks is a first class idiot..........

Maybe some of those liberal north shore parents will get a good look at Meeks, see what a fool he is, and then find out that he is one of Obama's "spritual advisors".

That would be a nice taste of their future for them. That will be part of the change that they can believe in.

Its about time, those white folks keep getting the lion's share of the education funding. Most of the inter-city schools were trashed by white students before they fled to the suburban area schools. How about busing those New Trier students to the ghetto schools and let us enjoy their fancy schools?

This has nothing to do with money. They all know that the Chicago southside schools could have all the money in the world and it wouldn't make a bit of difference.

This is all about BUSING.

In the 1960's black students were bused into Chicago southside public schools. The whites took their kids out of the schools and moved into the suburbs. Today the white suburban schools are thriving and the black city schools are in decay.

Now Meeks wants to bus black students into suburban schools that have a majority of white students. Where do you think those schools will be in another fifty years? What condition will those suburbs be in?

Why would the police and politicians of the north suburbs give this asshole one minute of their time? They should thank him for the "heads up" and prepare for ticketing every illegally parked car, news van, and bus that day. Then they should ticket or arrest every individual that interferes with the regular schedule of school in those districts.
"Protesters" should be held to the same conduct rules that the regular students of New Trier follow every day. The students in those districts don't need or deserve this bullshit distraction!

BTW, why hasn't anyone brought up the fact that Meeks has not done ONE THING in his capacity as Senator to effect change in this situation?

From an extremely reliable source within Northfield P.D.: They have activated a NORTAF call out for the day Meeks is to arrive.This call out is a mobile field force comprised of numerous suburban departments for riots and situations that may errupt. They have the SWAT team ready as well. Apparently they don't Meeks' entourage can behave themeselves. Or perhaps, they think the liberal residents with the Obama and New Trier water polo stickers on their SUV's aren't as liberal as they pretend to be????

Northfield has been dragged into this because the Administrative offices for New Trier are located in Northfield...GO TREVIANS!

Imagine where the Chicago school system is going to be without all the Federally funding!!!!

Sadly his reasonings are so illogical and yet, the people he's preaching this hooey to cannot see it for what it is - total and complete illogicalness.

There isn't a soul in this world who can teach a child that does not wish to be taught. When these children don't have the home guidance to ensure a decent study time and bedtime, and responsibility for themselves and their own actions', how are they prepared to learn.

It all starts at home, and it has nothing to do with socio-economics. Even the poorest of people in the world that VALUE education learn, and rise above their circumstances to be more than where they've come from.

Just because you put a dress on a pig doesn't make it pretty. You can send children to any school in America, but without the rudimentary fundamentals there will continue to be nothing to work with.

This world needs to stop it political-correctedness and start gearing up to practicality.

Give the school back a disciplinary structure to start with, take 'neighborhood speak' out of the classroom, quit dumbing-down the American education, and TEACH, and while you're at it make the parents responsible!!!

Heck review the numbers of parents from public vs private schools as to how many even pick up the child's report card. If they show such a blatant disregard even to pick up the report card, how in the world do you suppose they're providing even the simplest of tools for the childs education???

Parents/Grandparents/Guardian's/
Foster Parents need to take an active role in the educational process, without it the CPS is merely free child-care service.

equal education? yea, that would be nice for all of the people who don't want to work for it. play with the hand you're given and work hard, you'll go places.

I guess the "working hard" part escapes a lot of people that have been given government handouts all of their lives.

I swear, Illinois creeps closer and closer to socialism every day.

Re: Before you call someone dumb make sure you use spellcheck. The words are expletive and deleted. I think New Trier might be too tough for you.

Let’s see! Typo without spell check vs. Children missing a day of school. Typo? Missing School? I think missing school wins the dumb category. And, yes, I know that’s a fragment.

I didn’t go to New Trier because I didn’t live in the district. I went to Evanston where we did reside. And, I went to St. Nick’s back in the day when Nuns ruled supreme. I think I could have made it through New Trier with no problem.
