Rumor Has It......

Meter Maids, or Revenue Agents, have been hitting the mostly quiet neighborhoods pretty hard the past few weeks. Places where City workers hang their hats.

We did hear there was a hiring push recently for these people. They work for peanuts, have ticket quotas and are more likely to be spotted wandering the quiet streets rather than the more "violence prone" areas. And the people ticketed are more likely to pay their tickets rather than risk the boot or wage garnishment.

Most cops are already legit as we have Inspectors wandering the lots looking for easy movers, but that doesn't mean they won't be nickel and diming the pimpy charges. Garage your car, stay up to date on stickers, park legally. Don't give Daley the easy money.

It's true!

Meter Maids in Hyde Park area can be located on the smallest, quite, and less congested side streets. They carry the computer handheld that not only can print out a parking ticket "Lickety Split", the device allows them to take a snap shot of the violator's vehicle and location, and if confronted, there's also a recording device.

Along those same lines. Has anyone besides me noticed the red light cameras seem to stop at Fullerton when you head south??? Any south siders want to chime in and report where the cameras start and stop around them???

You don't suppose these cameras are only put in where there are less temp tags driving around and the citizens may be more inclined to have proper plates do you?

What we need on the TSSSSSS stickers is district ticket written in and what type of bond was deposited, then bump that statistic with the number of red light cameras in that district....

I'll bet the numbers would be quite interesting.

It's actually poetically ironic, in a way, that the vast majority of those snapping up these jobs are formerly unemployed recipients of our tax dollars and now have to at least get their asses out of bed and work for the monies they steal from us.

No wonder they're motivated, they must love the feeling of directly picking the pockets of those who've earned enough to afford to live in a nice neighborhood.

Leave it to richie to know what appeals to the lowest denominator.

It unfortunate that a service call to your home resulted in a ticket for the worker, but from my over 12 years experience at OEMC and taking 911 calls, the vast majority of calls coming from 016 are for parkers and parking violations. So i would bet--unfortunately--that one of your neighbors called to complain about it. And its absolutely amazing how many folks will call to pimp out their neighbors (or their neighbors guests) for illegal parking, no city stickers, expired plates, parking on fire hydrants, and assorted other violations all the while REMAINING ANONYMOUS. Sad but true.

We've had parking enforcement in West Beverly in the mornings at least twice a week for several months now. They've also been switching the no parking street cleaning signs from one side of the street to the other after at least 7p (that was when I last saw the sign on the original side of the street). Revenue trucks were on the street writing tickets at 9am the following morning for all the people who parked on the previously posted side. Glad I have a driveway. When we called to complain my wife was essentially told she was lying. Welcome to Chicago.

Unsubstantiated rumor. Anyone feel free to verify it.

A revenuer was seen on a bike on 2211 writing parking tickets. She was informed that she was writing these tickets in an area populated by police officers. The same police officers that give breaks to others everyday on parking and moving violations. She responded that she didn't care, that she would continue to write tickets and that there wasn't anything anybody could do about it.

The silver lining is that soon after she was given a moving violation for blowing a stop sign... on her bike. Of course she got a C.R.# on the officer.

If that officer would kindly and dicreetly identify himself while at any of the southside dr...er, dining establishments I would like to buy you a soft drink.

If you see a revenue department van parked on a street that has zoned permit parking, can the police ticket this vehicle? Can this vehicle also be ticketed if parked in a no parking zone? I am not the police but I have seen the van parked illegially. I would like to see one of these revenue vans go into LeClaire Courts or somewhere similar and ticket all the cars parked illegially and without city stickers. Instead the mayor's minions go out to where the city workers live to further stick it to them.

I'm a visiting cop from Texas, and a longtime SCC reader. Last evening a buddy (also a former cop) and I were having dinner downtown. We parked our rental and fed the meter and went in and ate. A little bit later, I saw a meter maid hanging paper on our windshield. I ran out to see if the meter had already expired, and the MM pointed at a nearby sign we hadn't noticed...the area changed to a 'no parking' zone at 4pm. It was exactly 4:03pm. I(respectfully) ID'd myself, and asked if she couldnt give us a break, but no, she just walked away. $60 bucks for 3 minutes. Nice.

She said he id'd himslef and said he was going to be a while in this place and if the meter expired give him a call and he would come and feed it again if she wanted him to. Long story short she wrote him for meter being over by 1 min and he got pissed so she called 911 and wanted him locked up. Why cause most of the meter maids have the smarts of a ROACH, there are only a few good ones. they are about as useful as the Traffic Control Aids downtown those sill goofs. If your ticket theory is correct, do they assume that they have a better chance of catching a north sider not moving his vehicle as opposed to a south sider? And a better chance that a north sider will actually pay the ticket as opposed to a south sider?
