Soto Funeral

  • As Rev. Donald Nevins brought the funeral mass of Chicago Police Detective Robert Soto to a close Tuesday, the quiet was interrupted by a police car's blaring siren, a fitting punctuation to a service honoring the 23-year veteran slain last week.

Police officers in formal dress, including Supt. Jody Weis, and Soto's friends and relatives filled the pews of St. Francis of Assisi Church on the Near West Side Tuesday to pay tribute to Soto's service and easygoing spirit.
  • Outside the courtroom, Austin's aunt, Sharon White, said police arrested the wrong man.

"My thing is, let's find out the truth," White told reporters after the bond hearing. "Don't just assume or just pick somebody 'cause you want it over with. . . . My nephew didn't do it."

Is there a script that floats around the west and south sides that says whenever someone is arrested for murder, the offender's family starts right in with their bullshit? It's authored by a bunch of phony "reverends" and directed by bottom-feeding lawyers. We have to get a copy of this crap.

"We have to get a copy of this crap."

It's in the ghetto version of Aesop's Fables.

I believe it's titled "Da Poleeces Laaz a Case On Pookie", or something like that.

There might be a translation available, from the original Ebonics to English, at your local Chicago Public Library.

To the reader equipped with critical reasoning skills, it is obvious that the various individuals quoted in these articles undoubtedly contradict one another.

Didn't Rev. Alwayz B. Scammon tell each of them to stick with the same story?

Sadly, the only thing that I can say is don't let them go to Iowa if they request a change of venue.

i wish the media would ask the people they interview one question before any other. "were you there ?" you get pookie and all the chilrens - bitching and moaning about what happened like they saw it happen - but they never ask if they were actual witnesses. nice reporting. that's ok - you're just adding fuel to the fire - big comapnies go down first when cities burn. newspapers burn quite fast.

R.I.P. Bobby! You will be missed! Did you see on the news when mayor asshole was asked why he did not attend! He mumbled again anothert slap to a once great dept. From the mayor to the exempts how much more shit will the city hand us? Maybe more junker vehicles? More outdated shit computes? maybe more dead batteries for radios (If the radios even work? more revs in control of weak bosses? Maybe no contract and talk of taking more away? Wait that is already happening! If your new on the job leave and look for a progressive dept, and leave the regressive one in the dust!

Supt. Jody Weis,
I have noticed that you have not worn the uniform recently.
Thank you. (By the way you do look better in a suit.)

I have said it before and will say it again. That small gesture makes me believe that their is hope for dialogue that we can all move forward. Now how about a pax 501 or something along that lines on why it is that you have appearantly set yourself at odds with the FOP officers.
I believe that if they were told prior to the action of being stripped, shame on them. Because this could have been avoided in less then an hour of their time at the range. An hour of time that will now cost alot more in legal defense of their position concerning the matter. Money I have paid for the defense of issues that affect all the members of the FOP not just the elitist few that I admit some for which I voted. They could have brought the issue up in this contract that they and the city have not budged. Seems the FOP elected has made this a personal thing that could have been avoided in an hour but now it will cost us thousands. I thought they were supposed to have our collective intrest first. Now it looks like theirs are coming first.

However if one of our police officers is called to military service for two years and fails to qualify are they going to sent 2 Lt's to Iraq to strip them.

Seems like both sides are being petty at this point.

The media could have at least quoted her correctly.

What she said was,
"My thang is, less find out the troof," White told reporters after the bond hearing. "Don't jus assume or jus pick somebody 'cuz you want it over wiff. . . . My nephew didn't do wit."

I saw the TV interview. That's what she said while wearing a bright yellow wig over her nasty graying cornrows.

I wish the media would quote exactly what people say. It shows them for what they are and takes away any shred of undue credibility they get otherwise.

Let me understand burke is finance chairman makes all the money decisions, but yet when an officer is iod and needs a mri or other procedure his office drags its feet, then sends you a denial of iod and the FOP has to fight for us! But then Mark lets eddie use our hall to promote eddie's book! maybe eddie could be a real man and speak out for the poliec on a contract but then again another guy scared to challenge the mayor! Guess the car and many bodyguards make eddie quiet guess it was an "easy bribe"! The old eddie burke's Father Joe RIP always spoke out for the police, yes I am a KMA done member but memories linger!

I will vote for Fran Spielman for anything. She is the only real reporter with balls. She gives the mayor fits. Keeps asking questions and than follows up and asks again. He gets totally aggravated. Channel 11 did a piece on his press conference at the fire graduation and focused on her quizzing him. he started out happy and you could see his BP go up. He actually yelled when he said the officer was not killed in the line of duty.

That only applies to line of duty deaths. THEN, the family is asked.

This was technically a private funeral, though Cmdr. Hargesheimer worked hard to make it as formal as possible for Bobby and his family.

Dear Mayor,

He was not killed in the line of duty but do we know if he announced his office?? No we don't. Do we know if he took police action? Anyone who knows him knows that he would have. He was robbed, then shot, and still called 911 and gave a description. He provided the clues that solved his own crime. Detective til the end. Don't you think an honors funeral would have been nice? You could always have honored him and fought about the money later.
Last comment and question Mr. Mayor. Did Bernie Mac serve this city for 22 years and then lose his life VIOLENTLY on YOUR streets? Right. I didn't think so. One hour from your busy schedule is all it would have cost you.
A personal thank you to all the white shirts that took the time to show up. You didn't have to be there but you were.
