Put ads in the Thrifty Nickel or on gunbroker.com. If the buyer is an IL resident, just get the info off of his FOID. If the buyer isn't buying face-to-face, have him send you a signed-in-ink copy of his dealer's Federal Firearms License with his payment. Then ship the gun to the address printed on the FFL.
A private sale like that, even if you do everything legally, will get you better money than a dealer.
That is, unless Chicago has some other dumbass ordinance that I don't remember from when I lived there.

Try G.A.T. Guns out in Dundee. The store is huge and the people who work there actually know about guns and will treat you fairly. (Unlike Shore that have a bunch of hillbillies working there that lie to you just to make a sale.)

I'm a civilian but i train in Krav Maga in Buffalo Grove. It's well worth the drive and you'll be in shape within a few weeks. A few of my classmates are in law enforcement. I've been doing it for years.
If you ever testify in court, you might wish you could have been as sharp as this policeman. He was being cross-examined by a defense attorney during a felony trial. The lawyer was trying to undermine the policeman's credibility...

I heard that the city is looking to take away our Uniform Allowance by replacing it with a reimbursement program. In effect, we won't get the cash anymore. POs will have to present a receipt for uniform items purchased, only then will the city reimburse them.
I checked the FlOP website and I couldn't confirm this. It's not beyond the scope of how low the city will go to screw its First Responders for every nickel and dime they can.
Anyone have info?

Mark Brown has a great article today exposing the stupidity of Meeks. CPS gets 35% of funds from the state and New Trier 3%. CPS 17% from federal govt.....New Trier a whopping 1%!
The other 96% of New Trier funding comes from their property taxes. These people are paying for the education of their children. Uniform checks are a abuse of valuable funds. They should have the system firemen use and not cash. Police spend it on car insurance and trips. City must change the current system and take those checks away.

Regarding hiring, a relative of mine recently took the pshychological test, went and saw the shrink, etc. He has heard nothing back, good or bad. Would you consider that good news? Guess what I'm asking is, if he were no longer being considered as a potential CPD officer, would he get something in the mail stating that by now? Secondly, any idea as to what the plan is on when a new class will get going. I sincerely appreciate your time.

The FOP sales used to incorporate weapon sales (Hopefully you still get the FOP newsletter or at least still know some guys left on the job.) I would also recommend posting fliers at the academy and some of the districts. When I was a PPO, I was looking around for a snubby and caught a decent deal from another copper looking to sell his. You can deal with a PO, so you know you're covered, depending upon the weapon, and if you talk to the gun registration guys, they'll explain the paperwork to you. Hope that helps.

Krav Maga is the martial art of the Israeli IDF and Mossad. Basically it's a mix of everything that works in real life..right down to gouging out eyes, breaking bones and (if necessary), ending the life of an assailant. The place I go to in BG can be found at bgma.us. Bert Witte is the head instructor/owner.
They start you out in Level 1. everyone starts out there, even if you have prior experience. The more you know ahead of time, the faster you advance. Once you get to Level 3 (where I am now), you start to learn the really good stuff. Gun/knife/stick defenses, arm/wrist locks, some offensive knife stuff, weapon disarms, groundfighting (you do the groundfighting a little bit in L2, but much more in L3). It's pretty intense. They aren't affiliated with Krav Maga Worldwide (out of LA), but with the IKMA at israelikravmaga.com in Jersey/Israel. Our system is simpler and more effective in combat than the more dated techniques that they foster out in LA, but both are really good if you're looking to learn something quick and dirty. DIRTY being the key word. We train with rules but on the street there are no rules. Pen to the eye? Rip off an ear? Doesn't matter. They teach you to react in such a way so that you're not the one on the ground bleeding, and the other guy is (a lot).
Even if you learn something else, most places will give you a free class or two so you can see what it's like. Can't hurt. Make sure you find something you like.

Really? So I hallucinated those two pair of uniform pants at seventy dollars each, the watch I had to replace when it was damaged wrestling an arrestee into handcuffs and those two pair of work shoes at nearly a hundred bucks each? I really didn't push through the toes of half a dozen pair of socks this year, either, or have to replace a worn out holster and star case.
Then there's the velcro and elastic repair on the old vest cover and a new dark cover for it. The baseball cap fades after three months and you either replace it at least once a year or you look like an orphan half the year.
I pay for my own ammo to shoot several times a year and I pay the dry cleaner enough to make him happy every time I walk in. Especially the place that cleans the leather jacket.

There are about 5, 1 hr. caps meetings a month. The day caps sgt. can't change their hours, approx. (5) hours every month to accomadate meetings? What does the 2nd caps sgt. do with the other 115 hrs. a month? Typical dept. good move. Meanwhile, now we are back to a shortage of sgts.
If they take away the uniform allowance are they going to increase my salary to reflect the amount they will "vouch" for? Because they include it as part of our salary. If we don't buy uniforms during a year what is our salary going to be stated as on their books?

FUCK OFF TROLL !!! i use part of the uniform to reimburse myself for all of the things that i need to purchase during the year. ie flashlight bulbs and rechargable batteries for the garbage flashlights, patch jobs on pants, pens, sunglasses and all the other good stuff. if the uniform check is taken away and there is no commisary like the fire dept., wait till you see me in uniform. HAHAHA . i will not purchase another uniform and wait for the city to drag its feet until its good and ready to repay my funds. the 4 sets of pants and shirts will have to make it 13 more years !

I'm sorry for the folks reading this;I'm sure there's a thread out there regarding this but it would take too much time to find it. Regarding hiring, a relative of mine recently took the pshychological test, went and saw the shrink, etc. He has heard nothing back, good or bad. Would you consider that good news? Guess what I'm asking is, if he were no longer being considered as a potential CPD officer, would he get something in the mail stating that by now? Secondly, any idea as to what the plan is on when a new class will get going. I sincerely appreciate your time.

The psych results depend on whether the city is paying the purveyor in a timely fashion, so there's no way to know for sure if he passed or failed.
Hiring freeze. Layoffs in all city departments except police and fire. Tell your friend to apply elsewhere. It'll save him time and ultimately, it'll save him his sanity, too. This is not a good climate to be starting out in.
