What We Publish
Some unhappy readers have been attempting to take the blog and our readers to task by calling us names and denigrating the readership. We say "attempting" because we've been busy with the "delete" button to spare our faithful readers the heartache. Evidently, they aren't familiar with a few of the standard truths here:
- We average 7,000 visits a day lately and we cannot prove even a single one of them is a Chicago cop. Nor do we intend to. We have visitors from 6 continents (if you know anyone from Antarctica, please have them visit). Are the majority of our visitors CPD? Probably, but we'll opine that most of the trolls are others looking for a rise.
- We average 350 to 400 comments a day. Does some stuff slip through? Occasionally, and when it's pointed out we'll remove it if we think the situation warrants. But we attempt to balance a legitimate need to express sometimes uncomfortable opinions with high emotion involved. We aren't perfect and have never claimed to be.
- Personal attacks on SCC, the blog, most named individuals not public figures and anything we think would make our grandmothers uncomfortable when they visit are deleted out of hand. Our site, our rules. Deal with it. Same thing with writing "War & Peace" type responses and massive abuse of Copy/Paste features. There is no freedom of speech here - we aren't the government.

The healthy and humorous nature of this (written) dialog you work so hard to provide us each day only works because of the diverse opinions expressed. Sometimes, that diverse opinion means that even the beloved SCC takes a blow (you're quite skilled at dishing them right back out) and sometimes that means that people get named. Don't be so tyrannical and don't censor us - PLEASE! This is the only forum we have left to stand up and speak our minds!!!!!

Since you have brought up the subject of what you publish - Could you balance the blog a bit more so it's not so "South Side Copper" focused? It should be more balanced. You have to agree that most of the postings are south & west side oriented. Just a suggestion from a long time copper & big fan of this blog who happens to live & work on the North side.

THE SCUM THAT READS, THEN USES COPY/PASTE (ESPECIALLY THE SCUM TIMES) ARE THE ONES THAT HAVE NO CLUE. AND WE SHOULD CARE LESS. WHEN THE OPPORTUNITY ARISES THE POLITICIANS AND MEDIA SHOULD BE LOCKED UP FOR THEIR MOST MINOR TRANSGRESSIONS. GEE, THE CRIME RATE WOULD BE UP (TICKETS ESPECIALLY). I WONDER IF THE POLS AND MEDIA WOULD CRY FOUL. BUT THE TICKETS WOULD BE UP RIGHT?

Before SCC, everyone could be bought-FOP. Pension, etc. Now things come to light.

I'm with you SCC, thanks for having this blog so I can know what's going on and I can vent. I can understand why many are upset with SCC. These are the same people who talk shit at the Area while sucking up to the sgt's, rant about too many jobs even though they went straight to V.C., how Seniority sucks and they don't even vote.

Scc you do a great job and are providing an important service thank you sir. You have done more to bring the police together and enlighten them than anything else I can think of.
Like any form of entertainment... If you don't like it then don't watch it, tune in to it, log on to it, etc.

SCC, you are doing a hell of a job keeping many of us in the loop with all the inside info and other sordid details and stories. I have 10 years on this god forsaken job and it is always nice to know that I am not alone in some of my thoughts and feelings about the job. Keep it up, my morning paper and coffee wouldn't be the same without ya.

I'm a reader - not a poster nor a cop. I read because I enjoy your blog tremendously. As you often point out, the media bias everywhere, I've always found if you want to real truth, you have to search for it. The media - and your upper management in some cases treats you in a way thats embarrassing for those of us that know we can't be in the city without you.
What you guys do is incredible and admirable - thank you for doing your jobs every day. We all need you.

What do you northsiders have to be disgruntled about? your local starbucks closing? no time to shop at costco cause they gave you jobs? can only take 50 minute lunch at the diner? See where i'm getting at it would get old fast.

SCC, I APPRECIATE YOU!!! You keep me up to date on so much that's going on, not just with the CPD but other issues in this our CITY OF CHICAGO... and especially the reality that you make the officials in downtown sweat!! KUDOS! I SAY KUDOS!!! and I love the loones (officers or not) that write to this blog daily..I'm sooooooo entertained too...
I'd like to chime in too...This blog keeps my sanity! Thanks for taking time out of your day, everyday, to keep this blog running. The citizens of Chicago need to know what is REALLY going on with crime, what our job entails, CPD brass, and how the mayor treats us.

Observed a civilian driving on the wrong side of street at 0630hrs, placing something on parked vehicles. Upon investigation, it was determined to be an employee of the City Clerk's office in his own personal vehicle, specially equipped with a pdt, running license plates and issuing tickets for no/expired city stickers. He told me that although their primary objective was city stickers, they were writing any other violations they observe.
