What does the Fire Department know that we haven't heard yet?
Off-duty Chicago firefighters and paramedics have been ordered to take all of their gear home with them to speed deployment in the event of an emergency at Barack Obama's giant election night rally in Grant Park.
The order begins next Wednesday and continues until Nov. 6 -- two days after the election.
Firefighters have been ordered to take home gear that includes protective clothing known as bunker gear, gloves, face mask, helmet, boots and breathing apparatus tank.
"Speed deployment"? Does that mean they're taking fire trucks and ambulances home, too? Because last time we checked, firefighters had these big buildings scattered across the city where they could store all their equipment and trucks and ambulances. And as most firefighters live way south or way north, taking their equipment from the place it does the most good and then expecting them to rally at north or south side firehouses means we're going to have what? Ten and twelve man ambulance rigs and truck companies?

Might be like back in 68, all fireman were called & told to report to the nearest fire station. Problem being, their gear was not there. Then the other problem was some stations ended up not being manned since no firemen lived around Grand & Wolcott around where the riots were.

In this modern age of technology there will be more cameras and recording devises here than Chicago ever saw. Every action by EVERY POLICE OFFICER WILL BE RECORDED - I want every police officer to remember that. Now this election night celebration can go either way. A peaceful celebration of the first African American President or MASS DESTRUCTION OF UNIMAGINABLE PROPORTION!
Many of the liberal media news outlets are saying Barack Obama is leading in the polls in double digits. This might be true or complete bullshit. But here is the problem. If John McCain wins the presidential election, that crowd of a few hundred thousand are going to believe the election was stolen. I mean how could Obama lose? He was up in the polls in double digits!
Yet this city and our police department has failed as of this date and time to release any information to the rank and file as to the procedures and protocols for this worldwide event. Mayor Daley has a very serious problem on his hands. Any CPD planned tactic is going to be leaked to the media. Now if the Mayor releases or approves a plan that is perceived as "over re-acting" to this event, the Mayor is going to catch all kinds of crap from every black organization and every black church. It will be said by some that this isn't a police state and if this was a McCain "white" event, the bad rough rouge police wouldn't be assigned in such numbers. This also may be the reason the plans haven't been released as of yet. Mayor Daley may be waiting for this event to be so close when it is released that the media or the "communities" won't have time to respond or protest the outlined police tactical planning.
OR - The city and the CPD have their heads so far up their asses they have no clue how to handle this event. And if the second guess is correct, we are all fucked.
Other cities such as Washington DC, Seattle and Denver all have used a multi-state and multi-police agency response to major events where the outcome was unknown. But I doubt this is going to be done in Chicago because if it were to happened, it would of been either leaked already or released to the media.
So 10 days before this event, I want to stress this point again. Every action by EVERY POLICE OFFICER WILL BE RECORDED - I want every police officer to remember that. No matter how bad the shit may hit the fan, no matter how riotous the crowd may become - If this event turns ugly - NOTHING IS WORTH BEING INDICTED FOR OR LOSING YOUR HOUSE FOR! Supt. In the event of whatever, two or three guys can roll and engine to a fire scene and get a hose charged. While they're doing that, another half-dozen FFs have an extra ten minutes to get to the incident.
Also, bunker gear is individually issued and fitted. There's almost no point to leaving it at the station when the FF goes on days off.
I'm a PO/SWAT medic in another jurisdiction. We've been told about the same thing: I need to have my rifle, armor, and everying in my medical bag (other than controlled substances) ready to go wherever I am, even though my regular days off are T-W-Th.
I've decided that I am now for Obama after all. This redistribution of wealth is probably a good idea. We'll just start with Daley and the city council. They can cut their salaries and redistribute it to the rest of the city workers.

SCC, I am a Chicago FF and I have not heard anything about this. The equipment like "breathing apparatus tank" I don't think they would be letting those things go home with us. They probably don't have enough to go around and for the most part would probably disappear after the "crisis".
Having your gear with you makes it easier in case there is an emergency recall. That way they can tell you where to report for duty and you wouldn't have to go to your firehouse to grab your gear. Speeds things up alittle.
The last time this happened was '68, didn't see my Dad for 3 days.

Yesterday about 1400 hours I was home I live in westlawn when we heeard a loud plane overhead looked up it was a fighter jet flying low. 3) Since no one knows what the hell they're doing, all assignments have been kept vague. That allows both Weis and the mayor to shift blame around to whoever is most politically expendable.

I am a firefighter.The order to bring gear home will in fact be out but has not occured yet.The point to do this is that in the event of a recall of personnel they will not be called back to a troubled area or their fire station but to a central location to be detailed out from there.The fire academy is the official mass recall location but of course that can change if the area is troubled.My bet is two days off rioting and looting if he wins versus a week of it if he loses.Can you imagine the future makeup of the supreme court if this guy wins?For our childrens future please vote McCain!!!!

Have they told all the stores on the Magnificent Mile you better take all the goood shit home with you that night too?
Just like the Fire Department.
It might not be a bad idea to take my, (and yours) big gun belt, body armor, helmet and gas mask home with you the night before.
Even before that, are you sure all that stuff is up to snuff, fits and ready for battle.
After all if you work in the ghetto, you have to drive through the ghetto in your own car and that night it wouldn't take for a mob to surround one or more of us at at traffic light. You may have to fight you way out of a jam and the big gun and body armor might save your life, so may your cell phone.
It even might be a good idea to put Obama stickers on your personal car when you drive to work. Just rip them off as soon as you pull into the parking lot.
Stay safe, we will talk about this night for many years to come.
