$86 Million - But no Raises

  • The Chicago City Council voted 48-0 today to approve a deal for the city to buy the 37-acre Michael Reese Hospital site for $86 million as part of the city's bid for the 2016 Olympics.

The Daley administration hopes to use the site as the Olympic Village and then transform it into a mixed-use development with affordable housing.

And still no word that we're even going to get the games. The odds appear in Chicago's favor since the Obama election, but what if it all goes south at some point? We're sitting on 492 murders already this year. Next year?

At least we know where the CPD falls in the general scheme of things.

This was talked about briefly on the news months ago. Thought the price was going to be higher. The cheating f*ck probably thinks he got it on sale. Explains last weeks push to sell the parking meters.

23rd District officer here giving some thanks. My parents (Mom) 76 and (Dad) 73 years old were walking the Chicago Riverwalk just off Michigan Ave by pioneer court on wednesday around 1300 HRS as they always do -- even after the big snow. Three M/1/20s surrounded them (nobody else was on the riverwalk) and stuck fliers in their faces and demanded a $20 donation for each of them ($60 total). An officer (m/2/30s??, around 6-foot tall according to my dad) popped out of a building by the riverwalk and chased 2 away. One didn't get so lucky. I'll leave it at that. Officer then walked my parents up the stairs to Michigan Ave. Our family thanks you so much. Parents in such shock didn't even catch name or say thanks or even say a word to officer. THANK YOU! Looking at the map its 18.

If daley and weis think the police are holding back now, just try to offer anything below a 5% raise and the murder rate will double.

Here is the reality, this is what the city is offering as of June 20, 2008 and they have not budged off this one bit:

7/0/07 1.10%
1/1/08 2.25%
1/1/09 3.00%
1/1/10 3.00%
1/1/11 3.25%
1/1/12 3.50%

That comes to 16.1% over 5 years, as you can see, the City's offer is back loaded. That means very little retro. If they would turn it around, largest raise first, it doesn't seem so bad considering the state of the overall economy.

The FOP's proposal is 29% over the same 5 year period, 4%, 5%, 5%, 5%, 5%, 5%

Let's not forget the $14 million it's supposed to cost to tear down the building. $100 million dollars plus the inevitable cost overruns. So there's that, the alderthieves 6.5% raise recently, the millions to rebuild the fountain, the millions to polish that stupid bean, the millions for more planter boxes, the millions to replace the flowers monthly(needed or not), millions for a bunch of tahoes that nobody wants, and whatever else that seems to cost millions and they are laying of city workers during the holidays, freezing the hiring for public safety for the next year! When will atleast one reporter or news person finally gain some testicular fortitude and call this son of a bitch out during a press conference and keep at him until he answers or has a grabber or something and then keep at it in news reports or news segments and expose thes politicians for what they really are. Thieves and extortionists. Hello!!! Any reporter? Anybody at all?

No olympics in the murder capitol of the country. Not enough cops to secure the olympic village. The mutts will have a field day robbing and carjacking over there.
Forget it , shortshanks....its not going to happen.

With the holidays upon us, it's that time for the annual hallowed and macabre tradition: the CPD "murder pool".

I predict that the last reported homicide of 2008 will occur in bloody Fillmo' just before the stroke of midnight. Multiple GSW over some stupid bullshit.

Not to be outdone, 007 will record the first homicide of 2009 in the midnight hour.

011 will lead the city again with fifty plus. Sure slowed down from the old days when Fillmo' and the Deuce were pushing a hundred murders each with the City-Wide tally almost hitting the thousand mark.

Last time the city hosted a world event we had the likes of H.H. Holmes praying on the young women in 1893 in the same area as the planned olympic village. Just a thought.

How about somebody, a candidate for office, a media talking head, the Better Government Association, calling for the feds to audit the city's books.

Good way to invite a mob hit.

I bought some of Chalkie's "Chicago 2016" t-shirts from his/her website. They arrived in a couple of days and are very good quality. Not to mention they are freakin' hysterical.

Will make for some cute Christmas presents.

Does Mom and Dad go over to the 001 side? If yes, I wonder if they are the same couple that bought me a cup of coffee a few months back?

What a nice couple- Dad wasnt taking my "No Thanks thats not necessary", and said his daughter was a Police officer up North, and insisted on buying my coffee. We had a nice visit and talk.

I hope that my wife and I are like that some day. Glad they are OK.

Come on now!! Don't you realize that 100's of DuSable graduates are now going to be employed on the Olympic Dream Team.

Part of the deal was the Dream Team had to be more inclusive in its hiring practices.

So let me see if I can surmise the outcome of this decision:

1 Head of the Committee

3,356 Assistants - hours to be determined by the schedule of channels 9 - 23 - 26 - and 50. If Judge Tyrone is scheduled for 1100 hours don't expect any more than 20of the assistants to show up before 1400.

It was TRULY heartwarming to read how helpful the Officer (and I won't disrespect him by calling him office)was is assisting another PO's parents! This brings back memories of what being the Police really is. If one of the shitheads "fell" into the river - oh well! My hopes and prayers to the Po's parents AND the Officer and his family for a safe and Happy Holiday Season - Thank You for being who you are!
