Midway Gun Incident
Evidently, the commander of 003 has lost her mind. Two different comments popped up today:
- This just in At 1400 Hours at Chicago Midway What commnader tried to fly to Houston with her weapon and was stopped and not happy with TSA? Check RD# HP741649 [sic]
- Hey my buddy is a tsa agent at midway about 1400 hours crump hales is flying out to houston, but she was carrying her gun through securuty was not happy and a case report was generated, tsa called washington and she will be receiving a big fine in the mail poor lillie! Karma is a bitch! [sic]
Didn't they just come out with a whole new set of rules about flying armed? Didn't they just post it in the CO Books? Didn't it emphasize the only people flying armed were those operating in their official capacity during prisoner transports and similar duties?

Please be advised Crump Hales had her pistol on her to simply protect her from any thug attempting to take her Burger King Crown Jewels from her head. Lucky for the CPD she called the number one merit sergeant on the dept. Sgt. Boone formerly assigned to the fugitive US Marshall's merit task force. The TSA refused to resolve the situation even with the unlimited resources of the King and all the Whoppers u could eat , I guess they are Big mac people. Crumpster did tell the TSA that Barracks wifes cousin by marriage the former ADS(the US Marshall Northern District to be) will soon fire them when Barrack becomes president and the TSA is replaced by Burger King employees.
Shouldnt this be the subject of a CR investigation?????????????????

that being said, why should feds be allowed to fly armed anytime and we arent. the rules and logic here are out-dated. a friend who is an EPA cop flys armed, he has never made an arrest in his 7 years on. update the extradition training, and open up this perk to all trained and qualified pos.

Hey goofs while I don't know this Biatch and she deserves all the ball busting, she id still collects a police check from the city and is authorized to carry a firearm. Last time I checked shortshanks hasn't sold O'hare. She never made it into the secure part of the airport so you cant charge her for possessing a firearm. Why didn't she get the same treatment that so many unknown citizens have received. If you know officers assigned to Midway, they will verify this TRUST ME!!!

If something isn't done to her after this incident, I've lost any and all faith in the Superintendent's position (not much faith left as it is). I would never buy the "I forgot I had my gun" excuse. If you're going to an airport, through all that security (we are't talk checked baggage, we're talking security line) you know you have your gun. It's just a blatant disregard for federal law. If she looks at the federal laws and regulations, just imagine how she flaunts state and city laws along with department regulations. She can't possibly have any dirt on Weis and certianly he doesn't owe her anything. Make this the last straw and demote her, if not outright move to fire her. Show a backbone boss.

But I bet we will all be getting roll call training and a new pax 501 about transporting weapons on airplanes. She'll peobably be the instructor on the video. This will be swept under the rug and not even acknowleged as an incident. She'll then become the airport c.o. and will claim she was doing an internal investigation on how well the airport security works before her future promotion to the post.

As of 1740hr 20DEC08 the RD #HP-741649 can not be found in CHRIS or I-Clear...24 hour report shows no RD drawn on Beat 813 (Midway) during that time frame. Numbers drawn lower and higher in that time frame at airport.
I haven't seen that order or information on flying armed, if it involves escorting prisoners or other on duty jobs then this does not apply. But here is something I posted a while ago, maybe it's time for a reminder.
A LITTLE TIP FOR AIRLINE TRAVEL...
If possible, book a coach ticket on a flight with a First or a Business Class section. Check in early as possible and tell the gate agent, discretely, that you are a police officer and would be willing to assist if there was any problem. Very often this will get you and yours a free upgrade to First or Business Class with an aisle seat near the cockpit. Also, dress for First Class, no jeans, no logo shirts, this is one of the rules for an upgrade.
I have never had a problem carrying a pair of lightweight handcuffs while flying. Most airlines have flexible cuffs hidden away in their aircraft.
Please, if you get an upgrade, or not, whether the drinks are free or not, once you identify yourself as a police officer, please remain sober and professional. Alcohol can have a greater effect when flying so don’t embarrass yourself and the rest of us and maybe ruin a good perk.
Since I have been a P.O., I have always carried a handgun everywhere in the U.S. even before H.R. 218. Cops all across the country would ask me if I was carrying and I would hedge an answer. They would tell me if you are not you should be. If you choose to take one with you when you fly, it must be in a HARD, LOCKED CASE inside a locked checked luggage. The weapon must be unloaded and the ammunition packed separately in a locked checked bag. You must declare it, show ID, fill out a form and the agent will give you or place an orange tag to the case. IMPORTANT, an inexperienced, or bad-guy baggage clerk, may try to put the orange tag on the outside of the checked bag. Insist that the tag is placed on the locked gun case inside your checked and locked baggage.
Again if you are carrying a handgun in anywhere else in this country, stay sober and don’t do anything stupid. Be sure to show courtesy to any cop you meet while traveling, and to any cop traveling here, even if they are from Wisconsin.
If driving to Canada the cop stickers on your car can give you away. You can check you gun on the way in and pick it up one the way out with no trouble. The Customs Agent will ask you a list of questions including if you are carrying any firearms. Let your conscience be your guide on this, if you are not coming back the same way you went in. The tip off is, if the Customs Agent asks a SECOND time, “Are you sure you are not carrying any firearm?” If that happens, he/she is thinking about searching your vehicle, so suddenly remember and give it up and go to Plan B.

But I don't believe TSA has arrest powers. I think if they catch a person with a gun (not Police) they call for an officer to arrest said individual who is prosecuted using state statutes.
BUT FAA/Homeland security quidelines call for a STEEP FINE which starts at $10,000.00.
So I believe a case report should have been completed. MANDATORY!
A superior officer to her notified to conduct follow up investigation and generate the CR# which is MANDATORY!
Technically I think it's a Federal Rules violation to attempt going through security with a loaded gun.
A serious CRIME if you make it past security and are CAUGHT on the plane with a gun!
The FAA/Homeland security procedures are what will nail her in the pocket book.
If anyone tries to cover this up then lets look to the patronage that supports her.
BTW name the LAPA Sgt caught by TSA going through security with a loaded pistol at O'Hare airport 4-5 yrs ago that was rescued by the now convicted ex-commander of O'Hare.

If you travel by air...do yourself a favor...keep your guns at home.
Still, even though a person attempting to pass through TSA with a weapon breaks a Federal Law, like CPD, they have to find a U.S. attorney to approve charges...IF they don't, then the TSA calls CPD, but, is there a State Law on the books? Can't seem to find one...I am guessing that it is there...but can anyone help point it out? IF not, I am guessing there is some MCC violation, right?

If you base your ability to defend yourself and family on the amount of inconvenience you have to go through to do it, then you don't deserve the right given to you. I take my pistol everywhere. When I go on a cruise I carry it to the port and check it in with the port police. They are very accommodating and respect your decision to carry in their state. If you wish to set yourself up as a victim, thats fine, don't encourage others to go the easy route.

okay, if she was a "career service" captain, she can't be busted down. there was only 4 left in the city in about 2001 and I am not sure if she is one of them. but the fact remains that if she tried to carry a firearm into the secured area, she is a DUMBFUCK. I have a 11 year old that knows that there are still a couple of places that I can't carry my gun. as a commander of police, she should be smart enough to know this...right ? I guess that I have NO chance of being a boss because I exercise common sense. We flew to D.C. for the protests about 5 years ago and there was nothing but sworn police personnel (not including the flight crew obviously) on the plane and guess where our guns were...in the cargo hold as we were not allowed to carry on the plane. she is just an IDIOT, plane(haha) and simple.

The airport unit pulled an RD#for UCR code 5081, "Other Department Services-only when the completion of a care report is not required, but would serve a useful Department purpose". Non-criminal Incident-Property. Paperwork was done on our end, but only for reporting purposes. Good work officers.

maybe her friend ellyn? the one who tells everyone "No one can move me" and the airport just bought her a brand new camry hybrid compliments of you the tax payers! I live near her does she even work a 3 hour tour?

Leave her alone she is going back to 009 next change order as the new owners of Midway know she is not needed see ya would not want to be ya! The sooner the better!
