Chicago has a lot of jobs, entertainment, and culture to offer, but for many people, winters in the Windy City are simply too cold. The city also has a tough image that dates back to the era of Al Capone. Among the city's worst attributes, according to the survey: environment (including climate), community (connectivity and sense of place), and affordability.
Between New Orleans (4) and Washington DC (6). That surge of civic pride just chokes us up.

Regarding a city income tax, I'm surprised it hasn't been imposed yet.
Most of the other large cities have it on everyone who works in that city, no matter where they live.
Look for a boost to the state income tax also, 3% is among the lowest amount of all the states that have it. 4 or 5% is the norm.
It sucks, but it is coming.

Here are a couple more notable factors:
1. Garbage Mayor--Created pay to play , yet still sits back and fucks over all in his way!
2. Democratic machine--Every corrupted office is somehow run or tied to some piece of shit Democrat looking to gain something for themself or family.
3. Crook County-- The only investigation aggresively prosecuted is the one against a police officer. Meanwhile cop killers and those who murder 7 year boys are treated like kings to low bails and usually walk on bullshit.Carry a gun or commit a violent crime in this shit city--no problem, here's a 18 months probation! Thank Northwestern and other liberal fucks for that. Oh and did I mention another useless dem machine is now running the office of States Attorney !!.

Yeah the weather sucks here and taxes are high. Its still a good place to find a job if you're SKILLED. Nothings perfect. The shame is that manufacturing moved out of here. For generations, people barely above half-wit status could work, buy a bungalow, and raise a family here. Not anymore,that was the beauty of Chicago.

Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and Las Vegas all were mentioned both in the best and worst list. In fact New York topped both lists, beating out Detroit as the worst city to live in. I've lived in both places. Yeah, NYC is a worse place to live than Detroit. Whatever.
You should know better than to trust journalists to produce anything intelligent or insightful. New York, Los Angeles and Chicago are the three largest cities in the country. Obviously people are going to be more likely to have an opinion about them than Jacksonville, FL. Likewise, Vegas elicits strong opinions. Some people think it's a lot of fun; others regard it as a taste disaster or are morally opposed to the culture. That survey was completely meaningless.
Chicago's OK. It's the corrupt city government that sucks.
How about a poll from any brave newspaper maybe John Kass to talk about how much the bullshit olympics will put us the hole and vote if we want it! daley thinks it is all about him and the fat contracts and the payoffs we do not want the olympics daley get it!

I agree, but it doesn't work that way. Pro-Athletes pay income tax for the amount earned in while playing in various states.
Pray the housing market gets better. I can retire in 14 months. Sell the house and get out of "dodge" for warmer weather and NO Daley!

NO, not true. Only pay federal tax. and tax to their home state.
All income be it contractible or 10-99 are subject.
Can't get a decent job as an attorney in Chicago if you aren't connected. The State of Illinois Central Management Services will not list attorney job postings for the State because attorneys are Schackman exempt and are appointed by the Govenor. Same thing with City attorneys, Metra, Pace, CTA or any other agency that hires attorneys.
Chicago City Income Tax, a raise in the Illinois State Income Tax coming, two more reasons to back the moving van up to the door on retirement day so I can get the fuck out of here and take my pension money and spend it elsewhere.
I like Tennessee, no income tax there, and also New Hampshire, no sales tax there. Or nevada or Texas or Washington or Florida, no income tax, also no Daley and no Stroger.

Only in Illinois can the governor get caught in a corruption scandal, on FBI tape, have it all documented and recorded and have people rush to line up to testify against him and still the guy does not resign. Instead his lawyer shows up and insists "They got 'nuttin on my guy, 'nuttin I say"
In New York the governor gets jammed in a sex thing, he just is reported to be cavorting with a highly paid escort, and he resigns. He doesn't kill anyone, he doesn't not pay the woman, it doesn't cost the taxpayers of New York a cent, he isn't charged with a crime. Yet he doesn't waste any time at all after it broke. He does the honorable thing and resigns immediately to save the state and his family further embarrassment.
Th governor here knows nothing about embarrassment. It is impossible to embarrass a politician here. Can't be done. Not if all they are charged with is some form of stealing. That's what they do. They've been doing it so long they actually believe it is OK. And remember, this guy ran as a reformer and immediately set about selling everything he could.
