Police shot and wounded a person on the South Side early this morning, police said.
An officer shot someone near 109th and State Streets about 12:15 a.m., a police spokeswoman said.
No further information was immediately available.

you are right about Doty, but wouldn't this incident fall on the Sgt on scene, then the Watch commander? There has to be more to the story, why would he just punch a p/o for no reason? But if it is as your post states, a CR and lawsuit should be in order..

Thank You SCC for letting this old retired copper keep posted on what's going on. I think back to when LeRoy Martin was appointed Superintendent and we thought things where going downhill. LeRoy was a prince compared to the fool you kids have to suffer.
I had a cup of coffee with a couple of beat coppers from 022 last week. Both of their (one 17 years on the other 15 years) biggest gripes was how these feebees think they know everything. They related that just because some political hack in Springfield said it was OK for them to wear the uniform it didn't make it right.
That's what bugs me the most too. I spent 34 years of my life dedicated to what that uniform stood for. To see it worn by carpetbaggers like Weis and Brust just bugs the living shit out of me.

A federal lawsuit claims a Chicago's police union is showing racial bias by paying legal fees for a former police commander accused of torturing suspects and refusing to pay the bills of other FOP members who are racial minorities, the Sun-Times News Group is reporting.
SCC how do you do it? Filter out the true garbage, and I am sure hate mail, than edit and sort and post what you do.

In days past, when a supervisor made a decision, it was NEVER questioned up the line (ie a Commander would never question them as to why they made the decision that they did).
Next, the questions started from the higher ups, but nothing was done punitive against the supervisors.
A few years later, and supervisors were starting to get time off for their decisions, even if they were correct according to orders. This was primarily due to the increasing influence of incompetent yet highly politically connected exempt personnel being made. Also, another problem was the increasing problem of officers with too much college and not enough street smarts taking this job. Too many crybabies came on board, viewing it as a springboard to their next job, rather than a life-long career. Supervisors increasingly could not count on officers to accept their "informal" punishment, such as "You and Joe settle it by duking it out in the alley" when you have a disagreement with a fellow officer.
Our biggest problem is mutual distrust between the ranks, one which the mayor exploits to prevent us from obtaining better contracts and work rules. Hell, he is even using it to take away hard earned gains from contracts past.

MontesDeoca (sp?) from 1st watch in 22 pulled a person out of a burning car that had hit the flower pot planter on halsted. 30 seconds latter the car exploded--With total disregard for his own safety he pulled this stranger out of the blazing car!! These are the heroes of the Chicago Police Department! Bullshit aside--this is why I am so proud to be part of this organization. A joyous and safe 2009 to all you men and women!! If you knew her you would know she is one of the best most respectful people on this job. A great officer and excellent copper who knew how to shake hands and walk away without doing a double take and doing paper to jam up the other copper like the crybaby did on her.
