Unauthorized Photo

The cover of yesterday's Sun Times would appear to be a rather large violation of the "pictures of juveniles in custody" rule.

After all the rip jobs we've handed out over the past three years regarding the unauthorized photos of a certain sergeant being inside a crime scene, we'd hope that no one was still dumb enough to spread those things around.

We understand that it's his mother releasing his name to the press. That's her prerogative.

But god help you if you trust a reporter to cover your ass regarding a violation of State law should Lisa Madigan decide it's time to enforce that one. You better delete the file from your phone, remove the chip, torch the phone and bury the ashes somewhere.

Just send the reporters to 19 if they want to photo juvies. They pulled the blinds down on the room they handle the kids in and it's wide open to public view. We see 'em all the time when we pull up to the curb to park. Of course, nothing really happens in 19, so the news people don't really come out by us much.

ps - Whoever sent that photo was WAY outta line.

Is this as bad as the desk sergeant taking cell phone pictures of a commander's son while he was under arrest and handcuffed to the wall? That could have been a very harry situation.

Off topic but great news Jimmie Akins AKA Petty Homey or Thirsty as he was once known on the streets of 015 has been arrested by the FBI for the tow truck payoff scandal. This is one jag I hope goes to the joint in North dakota for a few years. He is lucky they did not get him earlier when he was doing his thang in 015. This P.O.S. beefed and sued a few good coppers from 015 tact when they piched his younger brother for DCS. Who's laughing now Jimmie. Hey you never know maybe you can get the same cell as Bubba Terrell and talk about the old days. Good riddance you DOG.

wow is it getting harder and harder to be proud to be a chicago cop.

I have no inhibitions in saying that i truly believe that we are some of the best, innovative and adept in adapting to impoverished conditions, but a small number of us has stunted such reputation by bastardizing this incident. i.e.(releasing rumored details / leaking images of this incident)

security breaches occur, though mostly not on this serious of a platform, every day. the inability of us not to be able to deal with this internally and as to not to expose our weaknesses nationally, has become the greatest permeability in our defense on local breaches and terrorism as a whole.

this is a complete failure in security breach, but only inevitable in considering the standards that we as a department have been ruled by.

formally speaking, can everyone remember that first day when we showed up to our new assignments and got the, "hey kid, i know nothing about you" and somehow ended up on a car, until word got to the watch commander that he's got to change some things around to fit you in.

i'm willing to bet that most of us have a similar story and we as legitimate ppo's were not using any type of deception.

the inability of our leadership to create a successful, or at least standardized, system of processing ppo's, has lead us to adapt to a "fly by the seat our pants" training system. how many of us were trained by FTO's? or furthermore what are the designated training districts? and how many times have they changed in the last ten years?

all in agreement, we have some serious issues in our training schedule that need to be addressed, but need to be addressed with each other and not with the local media, national media, world media or however far our flaws have been publicized.

i'm still proud to be a chicago police officer and know that there is no gain in leaking unproven details, photos, etc to the outside world (i.e. media) who have no idea what we deal with on a day to day basis. it's so easy for them to run away with a story and so hard for us to regain our credibility and reputation.

lets be honest this incident could have happened in any district, to most officers and could have had much worse consiquences. lets not brag to the world about our shortcommings, lets clean our own mess, with our own knowledge and without the ridicule of the rest of the world........!!!!!!!

Thanks for the blog SCC. I live here in Chicago and I can hardly stand all the crap that goes on here. I can hardly wait to get back to the Kansas City area where more often than not, the people in power are straight shooters. I really hope the Chicago voters get a clue. It makes me wish I would have registered here to vote in Illinois and help support the sane/people who care. I hope things change for Chicago and your department, until then, stay safe and keep the city trash out where the people can smell it. Maybe they will get tired of it and decide to get rid of it.

I can walk out anyday also the young kids, like us have great officers and of course some shitty ones! Without the new kids how would it be better? the dept would still be on a downward slide the incident in 003? Was it caused by new kids or maybe do to bumbling idiots being promoted with no clue how to be the police! The new kids are paying into our pension knowing full well if they have less than 10 years on the job, they will not have a pension, the board is going to put that money into a 401k type of plan! i just wonder when and who lost that conduct code. when did "kid, back in the day" become today? and do those dinosaurs realize that by saying that their not passing down a much sought after pride of internal solidarity, but an anxiety of "save myself and point at everyone else" type mentality.

Um, don't think so. Unless you were that stupid to leave the picture on the phone, all they would be able to see are your contacts & pictures of your kids(and that's if you even unlock it).

You're not under arrest so it's not prisoner's property. It's personal property. Just like they can't order you to give up your wallet because they want to "see" what you carry in it or ask you to give up your PC password.

Most people have a ton of personal information on their phone that has absolutely nothing to do with CPD.

Besides, I wouldn't put it past one of the IAD rats to tamper with the phone once they got it. Hell, they'd probably loose the damn thing.

Best thing to do is to tell them you lost it and get a new phone.

Sombody better pull their head out of their ass, and quick! How quick we forget Weis’ history!

This is a small excerpt from an A.P. article on our J-fed: …”In December 2003, John Roberts, the third highest ranking official in the FBI’s disciplinary office, writes a memo about FBI Assistant Director Robert Jordan and Deputy Assistant Director Jody Weis. The memo claims that Jordan and Weis were overheard saying that Wright’s second press conference (see June 2, 2003) would give them an opportunity to “take him out.” Roberts also refers to an e-mail from a higher up in the Chicago FBI office asking for permission to do a media smear job on Wright (it is not known if this agent is Rice or someone else). Roberts claims that Jordan and Weis are misusing the FBI’s disciplinary process to silence and punish whistleblowers like Wright.”…

Its from the L.A. Times. Sometimes GOOGLE can be your friend, sometimes your foe.

I still don’t trust J-fed!

To that idiot who took that picture and sent it out. The moment when you did that was the moment when your life went spinning out of control.

For the rest of your life you will be saying to yourself, "Why did I do that stupid thing!"

Your life will be like that Chinese curse, full of lawyers.

For everyone else, stay safe, be the police and don't do anything stupid.

Probably not going to see one good thing said about Jimmie Akins on this blog...

He did a ghetto-rific job in those City Public Auto Auction commercials, it was his idea to showcase his handsome face AND the potential of Harvey's vibrant downtown. Last year, for every dollar robbed from suckas that got lost in the Sibley Boulevard Business District after purchasing fraudulently titled out of state shitboxes from City Public, 12 cents went into the City of Harvey's "Rebuild Dixie Square Mall Fund." The fund now stands at $629.13, that's an increase of 46% from 2007, and I credit Jimmie with that Harvey success story.

Too bad Jimmie's liposuction infomercials were never syndicated. Those performances came from deep within his soul and they were gonna be his ticket to the big time on the legitimate stage.

I'm sure everyone in uniform in your district has a star on their outer garment at all times.........And if you saw the picture in the sun times, maybe he had the empty holster under his sweater. Do you do a 'reach around' on your partner to see if he is carrying his gun?

Its from the L.A. Times. Sometimes GOOGLE can be your friend, sometimes your foe.

I still don’t trust J-fed!

I agree with you that it was a very stupid move to take a picture of anybody in custody. However your comments seem to display a feeling of joy that this officer may lose his job for making a stupid mistake (the first officer ever to do that i'm sure) So I bid to you a FUCK YOU hopefully you are not the police Mr. Perfect!!!

Just go. Your attitude shows you already dont do your job. You are the type that "ain't doin s***" because you dont like the change. The job/people change. You have to do your job and stop watching/complaining about everyone else. Too much down time hiding in your "hole".....

This report is not being given voluntarily .......

R/O denies any knowledge of this allegation. On the date and time in question, R/O was assigned to work with an officer who had been detailed in from another district. R/O does not recall his name, but his name and star number should appear on the A and A Sheets for that date. R/O suggests that the investigator interview that officer relative to this allegation.
