Visitor #5,000,000

Insignificant.

Sometime during the morning rush, we will hit visitor number five million. And once again, we thank each and every reader for dropping by, visiting, commenting, or just reading and lurking. It's humbling that you think our meager offerings, juvenile humor and commentary is worthy of part of your valuable time.

We've been through a number of changes, restructures and revamps over the span of the blog, mostly behind the scenes, but we've always tried to put the readers first, no matter the unseen shifting behind the curtain.

Again, thank you.

Open post in the meantime.

A heartfelt congratulations to SCC, whoever he, she or they may be.

I sure wish this Internet blog stuff was around when I was still OTJ. Daley would only be a despicable memory.

I, for one, am completely confident that even the dumbest of the corrupt cocksuckers that run this town now realize that if you try to fuck with SCC, your asses will be defendants in a slam dunk First Amendment, Section 1983 federal lawsuit.

Whoever you are, SCC--you are my hero!

Daley once again blasts city workers. "They're not customer related. They're gonna leave at 5 o'clock...We're on a time clock." I must be getting screwed working 0000-0830 hrs handling ray-ray-the-customers baby-momma drama then. Didn't know i had the option of not coming in since midnights don't exist in city workers schedules. Do Daley's bodyguards only work 9-5?

Sorry to burst the bubble!

BUT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Didn't you have a rank of warrant officer and didn't the men assigned to the 24th MARINE REGIMENT do the the fighting. SOOOOOO please jimmy give credit to those who deserve it. You aren't running the S-2 anymore and you are months away from a forced retirement so take it easy and enjoy your hard earned golden years. The job didn't care about your credentials years ago so they drag you out before retirement and give you one last urrahh! DALEY REFUSES TO RELEASE STIMULUS PROJECT LIST. Mayor Richard Daley said today Chicago has compiled a wish list of "shovel-ready projects" to spend federal economic stimulus funds on should Congress approve a plan.

Unlike hundreds of other cities, however, Daley said Chicago won't make its list public.

I THOUGHT DALEY WAS A PUBLIC SERVANT.

I cant stand all of these whiney bitter strokes who do nothing but whine and cry about contracts and no cars and insignificant crap.. no cars... who cares, they give you a car to drive around in all day and do nothing in but b.s with your partner and mess around if you want. people need to relax a little more and start to realize in this horrible economy how lucky we are. if we only get a small raise...ill be happy with it. afterall, at least its a job. sure taxes are going up and etc, but i still have a better job with better pay and benefits than most people working today. start to remember why you came on this job. j-fed will pass and so will all of this crap. as tom cruise said.... Hey just wanted to encourage everyone to get involved with the union. There are some big things going on and you need to be aware. A union is only as good as it's members. I know officers with 20 plus years on who do not know where the union hall is. Please come to the meetings we need members there besides watch and unit reps. And please vote when you get the mailers. We have some good leverage with the olympic bid due in the fall and we may have something to vote on around that time. The negotiating commitee is working hard and has determined that many of the issues can only be won thru barganing and not arbitration and that is part of the reason this seems to be taking a long time. For those of us who have been thru a couple of these 2 years with an expired contract is pretty standard and really can't be helped and should be expected. Also don't believe the rumors about retro. Stay safe and participate.

Laugh all you want, and I am not trying to be mean, but has anyone else thought the Cline Team could or might be cursed?

In chronological order, one of the members, in his early 50's, passes in his sleep, just as Cline is going to give him a gold star.

Then, Weis makes a move on near 100% of the Cline Team principles, save one, and most hastily retire, save two, with one of the two retaining the gold star and the other being dumped and now passing time in 013.

Next, and sadly, another member of the Cline Team, in his mid 50's, passes in his sleep, just as he is starting a new phase of his law enforcement career.

Members of the former Cline Team might be smart to start with yearly physicals, if they have not already been visiting their physician. Just saying, and might save a life.

scc, i have found important information about how many police officers are actually employed by the cpd.. the answer is 8999 police officers. how do i know this you ask. well, your avg site visit per day is 9605. if you subtract 200 from the media that visit because they are searching for stories, 400 from other departments visit because they are laughing at what a joke this department has become, thus making themselves feel much much better about there job. four people stumble on the site on accident and quickly leave because they are terrified by the "sick" and "disgusting" humor that police officers have. and if your doing your addition then your thinking that adds up to 9604 and who is the one other person that visits? well i said only 8999 are proud chicago police officers and they all check the blog everyday. the other one is j-fed! but he never has and never will count as a true member of the cpd...all together totaling, 9605... BRILLIANT!!

City seeks honor for new first slain officer

Chicago police may soon have a new cop to honor as its first officer slain in the line of duty.

In an about-face from previous police administrations, Supt. Jody Weis has applied to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund to include Constable James Quinn as an in-the-line-of-duty death after he was killed in a seedy part of Chicago in 1853.

If approved Friday by a "names committee" at the Washington-based memorial foundation, Quinn would bypass Casper Lauer, stabbed to death in 1854, as the first officer killed in the city.

http://www.chicagobreakingnews.com/blog/

I commend Superintendent Jody Weis for this, honoring those who gave all is a must.

ILLINOIS SUPREME COURT RULING 02/05/09

The Supreme Court of Illinois has denied the Lodge’s petition for leave to appeal the case of People v. Carey. As has already been reported, the Appellate Court ruled that the use of an administrative breathalyzer examination at a criminal proceeding is permissible. The Lodge filed a petition with the Supreme Court seeking an opportunity to argue our position. The Supreme Court denied our request. Accordingly, the ruling of the Appellate Court remains in effect. Evidence obtained by IAD, whether for a criminal case or an administrative case, will be admitted into evidence at any subsequent criminal proceeding, as long as the recovery of the evidence does not violate the exclusionary rule. To be clear, the fact that evidence was obtained administratively does not in and of itself violate the exclusionary rule and will be admitted into evidence. The Lodge will continue to monitor what it believes was an incorrect ruling by the Appellate Court and will inform the membership of any new developments.

If approved Friday by a "names committee" at the Washington-based memorial foundation, Quinn would bypass Casper Lauer, stabbed to death in 1854, as the first officer killed in the city.

I commend Superintendent Jody Weis for this, honoring those who gave all is a must.

You will never, ever, ever, believe this one. I work in 011. Two officers were sent out, by the desk sgt, to go pick up DOG FOOD that she had on order, from some pet food place, some special kind of food or whatever. Wet, dry, a truckload, I dunno.

If I'm wrong, and it was for the animals that so unfortunately pass through here, then I apologize.

But to put a 2-man car down to do an errand like this is so disgusting, almost vomit-inducing. Can anyone shed anymore info? I did not want to ask too many questions.

Not sure how long they were down, at least more than an hour, maybe two. WTF????? For the love of God...

shut up, be thankful perks like that still exist in that shithole of a district. go be proactive like the other guy on here who doesn't remember Cozzi and now is taking two days from traffic court for writing movers and not wearing a name tag. i hope he learned his lesson.

I remember when I first got on the job there was a cartoon with a slim lookin' p.o. all starched and shiny that read 1-5 years: excited, eager to work, aggressive, wants to make a difference, etc.

then it read 5-10 years: blah blah

then it had another picture of an overweight p.o., wrinkled uni, worn leather belt and read 10-20 years: don't give a fudge anymore, waiting for retirement, etc.

something along those lines.

the problem (using the word 'problem' is an understatement) with this job is now I see the young guy/girls with 1-5 years on policing smarter AND NOT GIVING A FUDGE. this is the police they wanted, this is what you get!

No joke. police were told to afford "safe passage" to the little jagoff la razas who were starting trouble in the morning at school.

Great message to send them, huh? Start some shit and your WHOLE GANG gets to go home for the day!

And the police will drive you if you want!

Next we'll be told to stop at McDonald's for them too.

Ridiculous.

OT--

Daley didn't say what he said.

Not yesterday, not today, not ever.

So there.

http://www.suntimes.com/news/
metro/1415506,cst-nws-daley08web.
article

Also from Daley -- none of your business how Chicago will spend taxpayer money.

"Mayor Richard Daley said today Chicago has compiled a wish list of 'shovel-ready projects' to spend federal economic stimulus funds on should Congress approve a plan.

"Unlike hundreds of other cities, however, Daley said Chicago won't make its list public.

"'Yes, we do, we have our list, we've been talking to people. We did not put that out publicly because once you start putting it out publicly, you know, the newspapers, the media is going to be ripping it apart,' Daley said."

So there.

TO Feb 05 10:58 AM I completely agree. Get involved and stay involved. This retiree is seriously considering moving back to Chi-town because I fear the current FOP is not getting enough support from the rank and file at the meetings. I've heard there isn't a big show-up at the meetings like there used to be. If you need the retirees to be there, we can do it.

IT IS A SHAME J-FED HAS TO GO BACK INTO THE 1800'S TO RECOGNIZE SOMEONE.... I GUESS THERE R NO HEROS FROM THE 60-70-80'S IF U PICKED PEOPLE FROM THESE TIMES U MIGHT EVEN BE ABLE TO GIVE THE WIDOW OR CHILD OF THE DECEASED SOME RECOGNITION.

THE SAD PART PART 2
I HOPE THE MEMORIAL FOUNDATION IS WORKING ON MORE PRODUCTIVE GOALS.
I KNOW THE PEOPLE ON THE BOARD THINK THE MONEY WILL NEVER RUN OUT
BUT I STOPPED GIVING WHEN I HEARD ABOUT THE WEIRD ACCOUNTING PRACTICES THEY KEEP!
U DO PAY 4 THE SHIRTS IN CASH BOYS EVER FOUND OUT HOW MANY SHIRTS WERE SOLD?

Speaking of traffic tickets. The W/C on 3rd watch in 001 demanded that everyone come in with 2 movers a night. If not, you were to explain to the Sgt. at check off as to why you could not railroad 2 persons for tickets.
