No More Armed Pilots
After the September 11 attacks, commercial airline pilots were allowed to carry guns if they completed a federal-safety program. No longer would unarmed pilots be defenseless as remorseless hijackers seized control of aircraft and rammed them into buildings.
Now President Obama is quietly ending the federal firearms program, risking public safety on airlines in the name of an anti-gun ideology.
The Obama administration this past week diverted some $2 million from the pilot training program to hire more supervisory staff, who will engage in field inspections of pilots.
The easiest way to kill programs is to cut or divert funding which is exactly what seems to be happening here. Now let's combine this with recent Department of Defense memo that requires the military to destroy all it's brass rather than sell it to ammo companies for re-manufacturing AND a number of bills based on this oppressive legislation working it's way through various state legislatures and the national scene.
This Administration is actively working behind the scenes to make everyone less safe - not only in the air but in your homes as well.

I absolutely love your opinions on most things I find here but this is the type of right wing scare tactics that makes me question where you left your brain. You're right, democrats suck as much as the other side, but seriously! admit it, this post is a bit of a stretch......

Not only less safe, but less frugal. With all of the himing and hawing about the financial crisis that the Democrats created, how can you justify not getting paid for the brass that is used. Instead destroying it? Just like the armed forces, burying their chutes on practice missions and then destroying them later. What is the use. Have them bury fake ones, and re-use the old ones. Getting back to the Democratic 12,000 dollar toilet seats...This fucking country is going to hell....

hey SCC ... double check your info about the used military brass. I belive they reversed that order for anything under .50 caliber rounds.

Thats horrible, taking the guns away from the pilots. If they trust these people to fly through the air with the minnium of 200 people and what average 2000 pounds of JET fuel, why cant they be trusted with guns.

The DOD directive that PDO yards crush or mutilate once-fired cartridge cases has been rescinded. It seems no one thought about the money the government would lose because brass scrap is less valuable than once-fired cartridge cases...

It’s sad, I recall listening to this new President when he was campaigning and in particular, the 2nd Amendment ruling that came out of the DC case, he stated that he agreed with the Supreme Courts ruling, now he is subverting that ruling via those in his party throwing in bills right and left in an attempt to thwart the 2nd Amendment and not saying a word about it. I guess its just the same old story, state and promise anything to get elected. I think there’s more shit on the way, curious to see at what point the people will stop acting like sheep?
The brass destruction rule has been rescinded.
Apparently it was part of a series of revisions made in surplus disposal regulations because the nitwits at DoD sold some spare F14 parts to Iran a few years ago, and the new brass rule got snuck in as part of the surplus parts disposal regulation overhaul. Its not clear whether some flunky was trying to earn brownie points from Obama by sticking it to gun owners or if it was just general incompetence. It could be either. Maybe both.
Perhaps they will re-write H.R. 218 to only cover active, not retired cops?

Hey 12:21am 3/23/09. Get your head out of your ass and look it up. By exec order, he took away the right for Pilots to be armed on their aircraft. Rumor is that he is going to take away retired police right to carry and off duty out of state carry as well.

Its hard to tell if this was an attempt to screw with the armed pilot program or not. if it was, it does not seem to have been done very well.
The TSA has never liked the program so they saddled it with all kinds of stupid rules.
I agree with 6:59. The first thing a government does to gain more control is take away some rights, like the 2nd amendment. They state that we don't need to protect ourselves, the government will protect us. Then they control the media. Saying that most things printed are lies. When the papers go away, who will question those same politicians who took away our rights to the second amendment? And the fourth? And the fifth? And the first? And so on and so on....
