Tokyo in the Lead

  • The chairwoman of the International Olympic Committee's evaluation commission says its members were "most impressed" by Tokyo's bid to host the 2016 Summer Games.

Nawal el Moutawakel praised the city's vision, concept and presentation at a news conference Sunday marking the end of the IOC team's four-day inspection of Tokyo.

Tokyo is competing with Chicago, Rio de Janeiro and Madrid to host the 2016 Olympics. The IOC inspection team has already visited Chicago, and the full IOC will select the host city during a vote in Copenhagen on Oct. 2.

Tokyo organizers say their bid offers the most compact games, with almost all venues located less than five miles from the main stadium.
In fact, there was only one major hurdle to overcome:

At leisure, I'm still reading "And They Call Them Games" by C. Richard Yarbrough, the communicatications director for the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. Since Atlanta, potential Olympic venues must prove that they can bankroll the Olympiad (Tokyo has $4 BILLION). Without raiding public coffers, Chicago can not even approach such a guarantee for Daley's magnificent obsession, taxpayers be damned.

Yet, one can never underestimate the treachery of Daley and the influence of the "bully pulpit" of "the most powerful man on Earth"--President Barack Obama.

Speaking of Obama, aside from getting cozy with Hugo Chavez during the recent Summit of the Americas in Port of Spain, Trinidad, he stated his intent to relax the trade embargo and restore relations with Cuba.

Certainly, this should include the extradition of convicted cop-killer and UFAP fugitive Joanne CHESIMARD, alias Assata SHAKUR, from "asylum" in Castro's Havana.

Chesimard, "the Soul of the Black Liberation Army" (BLA), was THE ringleader of an offshoot of the Black Panther Party which was responsible for the cold-blooded murders of at least twelve police officers in New York, San Francisco and Atlanta.

In 1979, she escaped from prison where she was serving a life sentence for the execution-style murder of a NJ state trooper. Shortly therafter, she was added to the FBI's Ten Most Wanted list, only to be dropped when it was confirmed that she had escaped to Cuba.

Chesimard and the BLA fatally ambushed NYPD Officers Joseph Piagentini and Waverly Jones outside a Harlem (32nd Pct.) housing project. Less than a year later, the BLA also murdered 9th Pct. Officers Rocco Laurie and Gregory Foster as they walked a foot post on the Lower East Side.

Later, after the robbery of a armored car and the murder of a Brinks guard in suburban Rockland Co., the BLA, assisted by members of the Weather Underground, shot and killed two officers of the Nyack P.D. In all three double homicides of police officers, the BLA targets were BLUE in that each involved both a white and a black police officer.

Add the fact that two of Obama's Hyde Park friends were Weather Underground ringleaders William Ayers and Bernardine Dohrn.

The State of New Jersey and the FBI has offered a $1,000,000 reward for the arrest of Chesimard/Shakur.

It's your move, Mr. President.

Daley is Teflon! The citizens here love him! He is so Bridgeport! All his stuttering and grasping for words only endears him more to the voters! If you talk to people all over the city and suburbs, they think he is doing a great job for the city! It is is insane! Even visitors drool over how clean and beautiful Chicago is and the lakefront, like "Oh my God!" Daley's gimmick continues to work! Indicting him will never happen! He is like Whitey Bulger, working secretly with the Feds, tossing them info occasionally on corruption while he goes freely about his financial scams and construction deals unscathed! This Olympic thing is a win win for him! If he gets it, his friends and cohorts make money! If he doesn't get it, his friends still made lots of money on real estate deals, salaries for all their family and friends and jobs with the city after this all fades away! There are not enough investigative reporters in the country that can keep up with all the scams and "under the table" deals going on behind the scenes trying to get this Olympics! He could care less about layoffs or his alledged "250M dollar defecit!"
All just a matter of moving money around to make it appear as if the city is going broke! A miracle will occur after all the unions have knelt before Daley! Voila! No more defecit!

OT: What Are Policemen Made Of? By Paul Harvey

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Don't credit me with the mongrel prose: it has many parents-at least 420,000 of them: Policemen.

A Policeman is a composite of what all men are, mingling of a saint and sinner, dust and deity.

Gulled statistics wave the fan over the stinkers, underscore instances of dishonesty and brutality because they are "new". What they really mean is that they are exceptional, unusual, not commonplace.

Buried under the frost is the fact: Less than one-half of one percent of policemen misfit the uniform. That's a better average than you'd find among clergy!

What is a policeman made of? He, of all men, is once the most needed and the most unwanted. He's a strangely nameless creature who is "sir" to his face and "fuzz" to his back

He must be such a diplomat that he can settle differences between individuals so that each will think he won.

But...If the policeman is neat, he's conceited; if he's careless, he's a bum. If he's pleasant, he's flirting;if not, he's a grouch.

He must make an instant decision which would require months for a lawyer to make.

But...If he hurries, he's careless; if he's deliberate, he's lazy. He must be first to an accident and infallible with his diagnosis. He must be able to start breathing, stop bleeding, tie splints and, above all, be sure the victim goes home without a limp. Or expect to be sued.

The police officer must know every gun, draw on the run, and hit where it doesn't hurt.He must be able to whip two men twice his size and half his age without damaging his uniform and without being "brutal". If you hit him, he's a coward. If he hits you, he's a bully.

A policeman must know everything-and not tell. He must know where all the sin is and not partake.

A policeman must, from a single strand of hair, be able to describe the crime, the weapon and the criminal- and tell you where the criminal is hiding.

But...If he catches the criminal, he's lucky; if he doesn't, he's a dunce. If he gets promoted, he has political pull; if he doesn't, he's a dullard. The policeman must chase a bum lead to a dead-end, stake out ten nights to tag one witness who saw it happen-but refused to remember.

The policeman must be a minister, a social worker, a diplomat, a tough guy and a gentleman.

And, of course, he'd have to be genius....For he will have to feed a family on a policeman's salary.

She has sent out an e-mail to everyone with a Dept. e-mail address to inform us that A.T. Kearney, A "worldwide global mgt. consulting firm, has offered to assist the CPD to make us more efficient. The date on this e-mail is incorrect, because according to the e-mail, the "study" began yesterday, and is being conducted in Districts 008 and 011, and also in the Area 4 Patrol Division.
What I want to know is, if this is true, why doesn't A.T. Kearney begin their "efficiency study" at City Hall, or at 3510?
I'm sure he will find enough wasteful practices between those two properties to keep them busy for the next year. Maybe they should be working in conjunction with the US Attnys Office here.

When will they get their chance at getting something?

The less money the city can finesse, the less likely it is to get the Olympics which will waste even more money...

unfortunately the city gets over $190 million back in the pocket... and that, with the stimulus money, some are saying that actually works out BETTER for the mayor! So, will we not need to lay off 1600 workers now? Where will that money go? Into the rainy day fund that isnt being spent when it rains?

SCC, STOP THE PRESSES!! You HAVE to begin a new thread on this timely subject. First of all, BEA IS BACK!! I know, I know, she's been MIA for some time due to "daughtergate," but she has now surfaced like the Spring Lioness that we've all known her to be.
Maybe they should be working in conjunction with the US Attnys Office here.

. . . has offered to assist the Chicago Police Department by analyzing our district administrative functions and offering recommendations for improvement.
Chicago Police Department personnel will work with ATKearney on this project to generate recommendations on reduction of workloads, optimization of personnel assigned to specific administrative functions and improvements through technology.
###############################

How on can a private company (with no government and or police experience) come in and "work" with the police by analyzing our fundtions in order to make recommendations for improvement?
If you do not understand why I do what I do in my job how can you recommond change?
Do I have to train you to understand why I do what I do in my job as a review officer, desk officer, citation clerk, etc, etc, etc.
I would however certainly recommend that they review the Dist. Managers position. That is one job that could be completely eliminated. It is redundant.

This will be interesting to see how this plays out. What if they are looking at . . . say . . . the tact secretary's job functions and say . . . some prisioner is being brought into to processed and they "get In the way"
What happens is they get injured?
We have all had scuffles in the station?

We'll see how this goes.

As usual, you are correct, Dave.

Foster and Laurie never had a chance--multiple GSWs in their backs in Alphabet City. Witnesses said that in their flight, the BLA shooters were jump dancing in celebration.

Officers Piagentini and Jones never had a chance either--ambushed after leaving their RMP on a bogus disturbance call in the PJs.

A friend in the NYPD advised me that the BLA also murdered Officer Sidney Thompson in the Bronx and Officer John Scarangella in Queens.

Today, NYC school IS#192 in the Bronx is named Piagentini-Jones while IS#72 on Staten Island is named after Laurie and Foster.

And as I type, the "SOUL" of the BLA walks about Havana as a free woman.

Unrelated FYI: I understand that some CPD went to the Ground Zero pit after 9/11 to help. In addition to all those 343 FDNY, 37 PAPD and 23 NYPD that were among the 3,000+ that perished on 9/11, an additional 12 members of the NYPD have since succumbed to respiratory after effects from the toxic pit. I also noted that the 12:30 PM poster is retired from the elite Emergency Service Unit of the NYPD. Most of the 23 NYPD MOS murdered on 9/11 were also assigned to ESU. God bless all of you guys.

I have also never felt safer in walking the streets at any time of day or night. I know that there is crime in Japan but I never saw anything that came close to being an offense.

And during the time I was there no public school student was shot and killed. Amazing, isn't it?

Monocultural societies do indeed have the quality of "concord" -- of mutual agreement on the basics. They can spend their time "doing" instead of "trying to get along."

..................................
The Stranger

The Stranger within my gate,
He may be true or kind,
But he does not talk my talk--
I cannot feel his mind.
I see the face and the eyes and the mouth,
But not the soul behind.

The men of my own stock,
They may do ill or well,
But they tell the lies I am wanted to,
They are used to the lies I tell;
And we do not need interpreters
When we go to buy or sell.

The Stranger within my gates,
He may be evil or good,
But I cannot tell what powers control--
What reasons sway his mood;
Nor when the Gods of his far-off land
Shall repossess his blood.

The men of my own stock,
Bitter bad they may be,
But, at least, they hear the things I hear,
And see the things I see;
And whatever I think of them and their likes
They think of the likes of me.

This was my father's belief
And this is also mine:
Let the corn be all one sheaf--
And the grapes be all one vine,
Ere our children's teeth are set on edge
By bitter bread and wine.

"For it is Tommy this and Tommy that and Tommy fall behind. But oh to walk in the front sir, when there is trouble on the wind."
It means, society has no need for the likes of soldiers or cops when things are going well, but when the shit hits the fan "who you gonna call?" We are a loyal and honorable bunch. Society may scourge us, but pay them no mind. Do your best, stay safe and hold your head high.

If you had the choice of holding the Olympics in a city that is clean, safe (hell, there are mini police stations called koban every few blocks in major cities), has excellent public transit that's easy and convenient to use, lots of hotel space, citizens who are enthusiastic supporters of the event, $billions of government funding, and some of the greatest monsters, superheroes and superhero-wannabes (Gamera, Godzilla, Mothra, MechaGodzilla, Ultraman, Power Rangers, "Beat" Takeshi Kitano, etc), why would you think about having it in Chicago (or Rio, for that matter)? Tokyo's not all that crowded, just stay off the trains during rush hour. All Japanese learn English grammar, not many learn how to speak English (unless they go to "English conversation schools" as a hobby or work requirement). You can't test English conversation on standardized entrance exams, obscure points of English grammar are fair game. As far as numbnuts getting a free trip to Japan for the 2016 Olympics, not too likely - Osaka is our "sister city", not Tokyo.
