One Warm Day...

School dismissal time.

Shift change.

Manpower shortages.

Who could have seen this coming?
  • Two people were killed, including a teen, and three other people were wounded in three separate shootings within minutes across the city this afternoon on one of the warmer days so far this year.

Police had few details on the shootings, which all occurred in a 15-minute span after 3 p.m.

Two 18-year-olds were wounded in what police described as a drive-by shooting about 3:15 p.m. outside a public library near 79th Street and King Drive.
  • About 10 minutes before, a 30-year-old man was killed in a shooting in the 3300 block of West Madison Street, according to police. The victim, whose identity was not being released pending the notification of his family, was pronounced dead within the hour at Stroger Hospital, according to the medical examiner's office.

Two men in their 20s were also wounded in gunfire in the 200 block of North Karlov Avenue around the same time, according to police. One of those men was wounded in the hand and the other suffered a graze wound to the chest.

And an e-mail says another shooting occurred in 011 about 40 minutes before the 3 listed above.

So what do you believe now? The contention that everything is fine at the District level with adequate staffing and 13,500 officers maintaining the peace? Or your own lying eyes?

Watch yourselves - it's going to be warm today, too.

Why no coverage of the Battle of the Badges?

I have never seen a lower turnout of CPD ever. The CPD comprised possibly 25% of the crowd and the CFD comprised 75% this year. In all the years past it was always reversed.

I commend the fighters on both sides and have to say it was and still is a great event.

The Office of Superintendent is fully manned. No shortage there. The ranks of the exempts are also fully staffed, overstaffed really, bloated, actually fucking jammed to the hilt. Lot's of Exempts. No shortage of bosses. Lots of offices filled with suckhole assistants to the bosses.

Go to Area Three sometime and watch the Deputy Chief out on the rear veranda smoking cigarettes with his staff. They are so lacking of something worthwhile to do that they have time to puff away and tell police stories for large parts of the day.

We must have enough police because after the car wash shooting in 007, the W/C called for help and cars from both 024 and 020 were sent to help. There was a 10-1 called and for the first time in my 20 years, it was frightening due to only about 16-18 police being on the scene. 98% staffed... MY ASS!!!!!!

Jody was at the battle of the badges with his two bodyguards, uh I mean friends. CPD turnout definitely less than CFD for the second year going, but I'd say more likely 2-1 rather than 3-1. Don't forget we don't have the CFD schedule where we work less than 100 days a year, its not always easy for coppers to get there.

On a related note: there was a time when as a kid and as a parent you could go out or send your kids out and rest assured that CPD would be out there kicking ass and making sure there was law and order. My husband and I grew up in Chicago. I loved the city and am appalled at what it has become. Last night my 23 yr old daughter was driving into the city by herself to go to a college graduation party at Carnivale, which I knew was close to all the bullshit at Lake and Halsted. Whether those bars are still operating I don't know but her father and I went through an entire list of shit she should watch out for. Of course she rolled her eyes but I told her it's a sick feeling when someone points a gun at you (which has happened to me). She made it home safely but I just want to say that what I see with my own eyes, what I read on this blog and what I hear from other people there is nowhere safe in Chicago anymore. Not even Michigan Avenue and I blame Daley for that. I lived here when his old man ran the city and still had relatives in the city when RMD took over. They got out too.

I don't know what Weis THINKS he knows or is trying to do (nothing so far) but as an ordinary citizen who moved out of this once beautiful city and has watched it's decline, it has become a cesspool of human garbage. It's all turned around now. The people who have no skin in the home they live in, the neighborhoods they come from, who don't work or pay taxes have turned Chicago into a place where parts of it looks like a post apocalyptic scene from science fiction and most of it is uninhabitable for decent people to live, function, make a living or raise kids. And it's a goddamn shame. I watched Jesse Jackson start this bullshit, ranting and rhyming on the 6 o'clock news in his dashiki and Afro in the 70's and I NEVER imagined that this is what the Machine, in exchange for votes and political power, would let this city evolve into.

Why Weis thinks these acronym roving crews is a good model for policing I don't know. Maybe because he has never been the police. As for me, when I call the police, I want to see a beat car with two blue shirts get out of the car and take control of the situation. That's what the police mean to me. That's the CPD I grew up with and love. It's a shame that a small group of corrupt politicians and clergy have affected so much and so many just so they could line their pockets.

I hope there's a special place in hell for all of them and that they have the shits for a month before they get there!

TOMORROWS HEADLINE SHOULD READ "SEVENTEEN PEOPLE SHOT IN TWELVE HOURS"!

Between 3pm Friday and 3am Saturday seventeen people were shot which includes four homicides.

Yeah JFED your right your "pet" unit the MSF (Mentally Stupid Fucks) are really making a dent in your maniputlation of the homicide count.

Do us a favor - have a little dignity and step down for the sake of this department and the citizens of Chicago. You don't get it WE WON'T WORK FOR YOU!

That little concept known as DEPOLICING is happening here everyone! Don't you see as long as we are being ostracized, humiliated and single out for every little thing we are jointly turning a blind eye and letting the city get worse and worse.

JFED said that the "No Confidence" vote was only a small representation of how the department felt and that was not true! The 160 consisted of representatives from every unit and district in the city. To further prove him wrong we organized a protest at City Hall where approximately 4000 Officers showed up to voice there opinions. On top of that the FOP from what I hear is sending out ballots to all members to show the media and public that we are all standing together voting him "No Confidence"! With the exception of those who owe him for their promotions and his cats of course!

The system that J-pud "fixed" was not broken.

YEARS of superintendent's tweaking policing methods in the City of Chicago, by the real police, not Federal ex-agents was solid.

The watch rotations were not perfect but they did work covering the crime times.

The day off groups, the early and late cars, the power shifts...again not perfect but efficient for this urban crime zone of a city.

Special units...call them what you wish: Task Force, S.O., Special Operations Section, Gang Crimes, School Detail, Mass Transit, Tact, Gangs, Warrants,S.N.I.P., Narcotics, Organized Crimes, etc ,and there are a lot of them over the years,
all worked because they were proven to have had effect on supression of crime by police officers who were part of a "family of police", there were always mentors and go to guys who may not have been promoted but knew the answers because they were the police.

They worked because they were tweaked through years of experience.

My point is that in the past, regardless of the name of the assigned unit, NO competent boss would ignore the school dismissals in the spring.

Historically after school in the springs were fronting times for gangs allowing them to mark their corners, show their affiliations, and beat one another up. Today that means shooting and killing.
Nothing has changed. Like the spring is a good time to recruit.

J-Pud refuses to respect the years of policing and experience by the men and women who do the job, did the job, or tried.

Don't fix, or change the names of the past units. Their tactics and reasons for being are all still valid.

You need a school unit, in district
who stay in district tact and gang teams.( not detailed out every hot summer). You need to restore the comaraderie between PATROL and your "pet units".

Why don't you just leave and let the professionals get back to work.
J-Pud you are a fraud.

Daley it's your fault. You are an ass.

The empty cylinder.

11 people shot in 007 last night, 8alone between 71-72 and Vincennes. One dead, one barely hanging on at Christ with a gunshot to the head. Dead guy was at 72nd Vincennes and cars had to be called citywide to help the officers on the crimescene when the crowd charged to the body after they were displeased with how long Forensics was taking. 3 others shot in separate incidents. A plan was put in place to ease the backlog which had people waiting 4 hours for an attempted arson and too many domestics to count. Thanks to the cars from 002, 022, 020 and 024 who helped us out last night. Complete insanity.

Off course, the districts are "adequate" in manpower, so HQ is probably trying to figure out why these cars had to come from the far northside to help. In fact, 007 is so adequately staffed that people were denied personal days for saturday night. What is it going to take to get people hired? It was only 70 degrees yesterday and yes, 11 people shot in one night is a rarity, but what happens when it hits 90? By the previous posts it was a busy day everywhere. We need more blue shirts before this gets a lot of cops hurt. Stay safe, go home to your family. That's what's important. I just wish city hall would listen

If Jesse Jackson and Father Pfleger are the relevant civil rights leaders they think they are (or have pretended to be) and such important and influential activists why have they had no impact on the "community" that they have been living and working in for the last thirty years?

And further, are they disappointed that their congregations and constituents have used the rights decent and truly oppressed blacks fought and sometimes died for to enable several generations of Chicagoans to become phony, useless, wailing, histrionic liars who have been allowed to abuse every single system that has helped them, fed them, protected them and not asked for anything in return lest the established order be labeled racist?

ALL smoke and mirrors for personal power and profit and shamefully under the guise of ministry I might add. But I'm glad Fr Pfleger can afford a Lincoln Navigator because I sure can't.

From the Sun times: Man killed, 7 others shot inside South Side car wash

Chalkie arrived at 71 vincennes to get his car washed and the next thing you know they put him to work. Since he was off duty at the time he only had a small off duty piece of chalk with him. So after the first assignment he was done. Leaving the other seven safe for another day. Oh and by the way chalkie didnt even get to get his car washed. Poor chalkie

I second this post! It won't matter what you 'wonderkids' do in MSF, without the 25 Districts pulling together, you won't get much done, and the rank & file in the Districts have pretty much given up on the Daley/Weis regime...they, in addition to Masters/Peterson/Rambo Ray have destroyed any incentive to go out there and do much of anything (there's no need to even discuss Cuello and Jackson, just mere bookends on a thrown out piece of furniture now). Weis is well aware of this, which is why he's expanding the MSF. It will get him great press when he unveils the two companies in a soon to be held press covered outdoor "go get 'em" roll call on a Friday night, but it'll just be for show, nothing else. Most every civilian I know has seen through J-Fed's smoke & mirror show for some time now. Maybe Master's ace in the hole, Ms. DiVlantes of ch.5 news will do another "special" showing Weis speaking to her next to the fallen starcase in the lobby of Headquarters. That ought to make the ratings needles jump a little...with laughter! We are so doomed.
