Sneed Bristles

  • A memo to all cops who got their shorts in a bunch when Sneed stated Police Supt. Jody Weis was voluntarily taking 24 days of unpaid furlough. Contrary to our item, it was not due to a newly negotiated police contract. (That sticky wicket is still being negotiated.) It's because Weis was being a good guy and showing solidarity with the members of his non-union top brass and civilian staff (about 200), who were forced by the city to take furlough days along with every other city employee -- except cops and firefighters.

Weis didn't have to do it -- he's non-union and has a contract.

    • • Translation: So Sneed mended her hem, so you adjust your shorts.

Gee Sneed, we point out that your entire column was based on a non-existent premise and express amazement at the vast layers of fact checking that must go into your writing prior to publication and our shorts are in a bunch? The lady doth protest too much. It's awfully nice you put your correction in the Tuesday edition where maybe 30% fewer people will see it and go on believing the police are greedy bastards with a contract already.

For the record, we highly doubt that J-Fed is "being a good guy and showing solidarity with the members of his non-union top brass and civilian staff." How would it have looked if everyone in the city supervisory ranks took time off, including the mayor, and J-Fed didn't? It would embarrass the mayor and no one puts Baby in the corner embarrasses Shortshanks. It just isn't done. So "didn't have to" is subject to interpretation.

Anyway, Sneed evidently has a source in J-Fed's office now, probably the policy group people, who are feeding her info about J-Fed being a great guy and taking unpaid time off from his $330,000 job so he only makes $300,000 this year. We only wish we could suffer with a mere $300,000 this year. Hell, we'd settle for a mere $300,000 for two years.

Indeed, "me'thinks the lady doth protest too much."

I hear that Shakespeare did not have Sneed in mind when he wrote this, but if the shoe fits...

Further, Sneed, you didn't address the other points SCC makes. What? Your copy-writer out to lunch too long and couldn't give an appropriate response.

You are a GOSSIP columnist, who occassionally gets a fact or two correct. Your column panders to the unenlightened and ignorant playing into their opinions. You are not KUP!

If you are going to report gossip, get your facts straight.

Oh, and one more thing, I like wearing my shorts in a bunch. I go for that cushiony feeling, you know?

How about addressing the fact that $130,000 of his annual salary is to head OEMC which he hasn't done in a year! Someone else is being paid $130,000 a year to fill his shoes at that post. "Hey Jody dere, listen how bout givin up some of that ghost payroll money yur still making so I can get the public to help me strongarm dese asshole coppers into having to give somethin up? Its not a total loss for ya, ya get to fuck over the coppers again with some lead by example bullshit and we'll make it up to you on da end." Great reporting Sneed, the half truths of the Chicago media live on!

Nice Sneed, you make a huge mistake in your fact checking (oops forgot, you are a gossip columnist and not a journalist, therfore you dont need to check facts), then blame who you write about with being upset for your mistake.

Classic sign of a huge ego. you would have been better off to just admit you made a mistake and your apology would have been accepted. but to blame the police for crying foul is just wrong.

If J-Fed is really such a "good guy" and wants to show "solidarity" with his fellow police officers (and I use that term loosely, as J-Fed is no police officer), then why doesn't he fight for a new contract for the rank and file? Taking a few days off unpaid with this salary of hundreds of thousands of dollars a year is not going to win him votes from the CPD. Standing up to Shortshanks for our benefit of a contract would certainly help his image, but that is way too much to ask for someone who is Daley's lapdog.

Hey Sneed here's a flash and just the tip of the iceberg...
J-Fed has his entire daily agenda spelt out for him by none other then the great Shortshanks. So if this ex-fed is so impervious to corruption, how can he sleep at night knowing the man who pulls his strings day in and day out is up to his eyeballs in corruption.

But let me guess, your response would be he hasn't been charged with anything... yet. But then I guess alls fair in politics...

You wanna do some real scopes? Then maybe look at all the assholes that have gone the way of indictment and just ask who's in charge... or just try to connect the dots. Then maybe you can get a feel for the coppers, let alone the firemen, who are being squeezed, forget about those who are tasked with protecting them and their safety. How bout the folks who have their protection cut away to fending for themselves, all while this asshole just keeps running this city into the ground and points the finger at everyone but his little empire.

Thanks for the rant, I feel much better now...

Hey Sneedly. How were any of these prima donnas forced to take anything? Any one of them could have refused and been returned to their original salaries. Sneed should consider a different line of work. Even in her "apology" she is incorrect.

Both AFSCME and Teamsters did not go along with the furlough days agreement which is really a change in the contract already negotiated. These two unions took a hit with layoffs but they will get paid for all holidays and do NOT have to take any reduction in their work hours.

Maybe all the other Unions should have stuck with their original contract. What would shortshanks have done then? You can be sure that holidays will never be paid for again, furlough days will continue to be needed to balance the budget, and some pea brain will think of another stupid idea (s) in the future.

Ahhh, there's good news tonight....

Hey, Sneedarino. I just want to say...wait...obligatory shout out to Mr. M Masters...how many CR's pulled does that make NOW?

Anywho, This is preposterous. You see, with 350K in salary + ?K FBI pension a few days off is just disposable income. For those whose pay grade is below $350k/YR, and are raising kids on that, the few days are a significant cut. How many CPD employees are making 350K + perks? Hint: (you may sing along if you wish, you being so hip and all) "One is the loneliest number..."

Also, Riddle me this, when your toadies scan this blog, do they see a lot of comments that J-Fed is a nice guy? No? Do you think a few days without pay will turn that around? That's just crazy talk.

You want to suck up to city hall? Gush more about Obama and who is dining where. You know, the hard-hitting news you are famous for. Having city hall dictate your column for you will never get you that Pulitzer Prize.

As for may shorts, and their alleged bunchy condition, I was going to invite you over to help get the wrinkles out of them, but the thought made me throw up a bit in my mouth.

I intend to wash it out with some Jim Beam, and continue sanitizing my system with repeated doses of this Kentucky medicine. If I have some sort of drunken change of heart (unlikely, since I do not have an unlimited supply of booze) I have instructed my buddies to call Janet Reno instead. That should get me out of the mood.

I could be wrong but, the way I see it. J-fed is paid a salary. He has a contract (unlike us) that gives him 300k+ a year.So what unpaid days is he taking? By contract he has no unpaid days, He should get paid the same regardless of weekends, holidays, furlough days. He would have to take a cut in salary and that would be breaking the terms of the contract.
