Cop Watch Fundraiser

  • COPWATCH, an organization that works to prevent police brutality and educate the community on citizen rights, is holding a breakfast benefit to recover the costs of $750 worth of stolen equipment used to monitor the police that was being stored at the Catholic Worker House in Uptown. The benefit will feature banana pecan pancakes, tomato basil eggs, Metropolis coffee and the reward of being a good samaritan.
Brunch will be served 10:00 a.m-1:00 p.m. at the Catholic Worker House at 4652 N. Kenmore on Sunday, August 23 with a $5 suggested donation.
There are more than a few comments over at Uptown Updates that poke fun at the CopWatch mopes and take them to task for their attitude of "all cops are corrupt, evil and bad." It's refreshing to find that support out there in more and more places. It's a small glimmer of hope that all isn't lost in this city. We aren't celebrating by any means, but it's good to see. Maybe there will be a city worth saving by the time enough people see the light.

Yeah, I thought it was retarded for Uptown Updates to post that thread.

The website shows it's disdain for Aldercreature Shiller and is upset at the recent crime wave hitting Uptown.

The Uptown Update people want more patrols and more aggressive patrols and then they give space to a group that is anti-police.

That's just silly. If you want cops to be aggressive, let them do their jobs without a camera in their faces!

Why didn't CopWatch members go down to Maxwell St. ( or whatever street the mayor has moved the market to this week in the never-ending game of hide-n-seek) at 4am on the Sunday following the theft to retrieve their stolen equiptment from the fences that would have been out there selling it? Were they afraid to confront black men in a low income hood on the streets where they might have to call the police to back them up? Construction uto body shops are down there buying there own shit back every Sunday morning.

Was told by a very liberal private attorney who regularly represents people in the system that he is no fan of Cease Fire .Explained that they have a negative influence and will counsel people to go to trial and make up alibis, etc ., coaching them on putting stories, witnesses , etc all together.Says usually the whole thing stinks and sounds unbelievable and usually hurts them if they do go to trial.
Also, was that an Esacalde that Tio was driving when he took CNN around on his Cease Fire rounds ?
Nice that all these people (Fr Fleger, reverends, alderman , etc)can afford such nice rides.

It figures that that Copwatch group is headquartered out of Uptown which is the most radical left wing neighborhood in the U.S.A. If you ever seen them out and about, just look at them, they are all brain washed, they have a retarded look on their faces, and they look like crack babies. These people have nothing better to do but to bash on a profession that they would never be able to do for even one day. Let them go to a call and fight with some shitheads or mentals, they all need to get their asses kicked.

"the catholic church (which I no longer belong to) should be ashamed of themselves."

The Catholic Worker house in Uptown is not sponsored by the Catholic church. There are two in Chicago- one on Loomis on the SS that shelters people getting pysch treatment at the Kolver center. The other-in Uptown ministers to the homeless. I don't know whatever idiots have taken up residence there now- the original people were hippie types that just wanted to help the poor. If they are sheltering these COPWatch goofs- they are giving up beds that could be used for the homeless.

Dorothy Day is rolling in her grave-she was a proponent of non-violent action- not promoting violence like these goofs.

Thanks for the tip on the uptownupdate and their site tells a good story about how little community support these copwatch morons have,,,but it got me thinking,,,They held their fundraiser at the Catholic Workers House,,,so here's a typical follow the money scenario.
Not to pick on a parish but St Clement Church in Lincoln Park, where alot of yuppies have been attacked, gave $9000 to the Catholic Campaign
for Human Development which gave money to the Chicago Worker's Collaborative which supports the Catholic Workers House which supports Copwatch. Again only bringing up Clement because they have their contribution online.

At the very least, try and figure out where any money you give to charities is really going before you donate. Most of these dickhead groups get the money from people who would be surprised to find out they are supporting them in the first place.

President Obama loves "Police Watch." How did President Obama's green jobs 'czar', Van Jones, , a self-proclaimed communist become a special advisor to the president? Did President Obama know of Van Jones’ radical political beliefs when he named him special advisor or was he just acting stupidly?
In 1995, Jones started Bay Area Police Watch, the region's only bar-certified hotline and lawyer-referral service for victims and survivors of police abuse. From 1996-1997, Jones and Police Watch led a successful campaign to get officer Marc Andaya fired from the San Francisco Police Department. Andaya has been at the center of controversy since the June 1994 death of robbery suspect Aaron Williams. Williams, 35, died of heart failure in the back of a police van parked outside the Richmond Station. Minutes earlier, Williams had been involved in a violent struggle with several police officers trying to arrest him. Andaya, the lead officer in the arrest, admitted kicking Williams that night but was later cleared of using excessive force.

CHANGE YOU CAN BELIEVE IN!

I'd like to hear about any problems with Ceasefire. Atlanta is about to spend its money on the same...

Regarding anti-cop rhetoric and the deadly consequences of "Cop Watch" type activism -- after the murder of an officer in Tampa this week (shot after trying to control his killer with a taser), one newspaper got it right, with an editorial about the public's failure to appreciate the restraint police practice on the job -- and what it costs them in personal safety. I'll add the link, but it's called "A Hero's Death and a Painful Reminder" in the Tampa Tribune. http://www2.tbo.com/content/2009/aug/21/na-a-heros-death-and-painful-reminder/

The other paper, of course, got it wrong, with a sob story about the killer's personal woes.

Great to see the Chicago Catholic Church providing support to this piece of shit. And the same archdiocese resources are devoted to the white hating non-Catholics at St. Malachy, St. Sylvesters, and St. Sabina's. Ever try to enroll a mentally disabled child in a Catholic school? I haven't dropped a dime in the collection basket since our idiot pastor unsuccessfully tried to turn our school gymnasium into a weekend homeless shelter-with about half of the parishoners agreeing it was a great idea (the Obama voters in Park Ridge)! I've since devoted all of my collection money to the Down Syndrome Clinic at Lutheran General Hospital. Hey Father Morello-put that in your pipe and smoke it!

They have alilenated themselves from their neighbors, hide behind the veil of a "Catholic Worker" house that is named after St. Francis of Assissi.

Dorothy Day and St. Francis must be rolling over in their graves.

Incidentally, the ringleader has already spent time in the Federal Pen and I'm sure would consider it a badge of honor to get arrested again.

The location of the crime is less than 1 block from the fight on Sheridan/Leland. They listen to our scanners and show up to film. Now heres the question, Do you only show the films of the Police acting in a bad light? You know they were there filming and the Cops reacted with composure. Uptown residents beware, they are not your friends. Just wait until the Alderman starts moving the Cabrini/Robert Taylor residents to Montrose/Broadway. Lots to film then.

These folks don't understand...from a cop's POV, they are allowed to have a lot of discretion on their job. When you have a camera in their face, that will make them have less discretion....No license and insurance? If the cameras are off,you may just have to park the car...with a camera? IMPOUND. I have never seen footage from CW of the neighborhood insulting officers as they arrive, I have never seen CW showing residents throwing bricks at squad cars. I live in the neighborhood, and I have seen where officers can talk nicely till they are blue in the face, and the residents want to fight. It is a simple fact: Not all people are good- including police officers. It is true that CW is biased in their approach because of the thousands of jobs handled every day by police officers, they scramble to only air 2 or three per month. If this were unbiased, they would air all footage, unedited for content. If wanted to skew statistics in my favor, I could quote all day in my favor. So I thank CW because for what they say and the LACK evidence to show to back it up, sometimes it is what is NOT shown that hurts them more. Additionally, having a camera on some of these neighborhood fights (i have never seen a camera here) could render someone injured...
