Forgotten Chicago

Some of our oldest readers are the people over at ForgottenChicago.com.

One of our favorite sections is the "Disused Police Stations" section of their site. And now they are selling framed and unframed prints of a few photos from their collection.

Stop by and look around. Some of our older readers and retirees may enjoy just browsing their entire collection of old time Chicago landmarks and architecture.

I would like to obtain a quality photo of the old 25th District, later 11th District station at 4001 W. Fillmore St. suitable for framing. Any leads? If so, please contact me.

Neat site, it's a fave. I've always known that the building on Elston was an old station, but no idea it was closed in 1918. Off Topic: Are you aware of the trouble that "Dome Lights" is having in Philly? More on the story here: http://tinyurl.com/me92u6

the first picture would be none other than 4461 n pulaski, former home of the fighting 017. the locker rooms in basement would flood everytime their was a stiff rain. the bathroom in lobby was also unisex, an officer would have to guard the door whenever a female needed to use the head. the lock up was like a dungeon--- cell four was reserved for special guests.

In one of the last photos they "wonder how many bribes were paid" in a station on Chicago. I never saw any speculation on how many Officers died in a particular station. That would have been nicer to remember. Still a nice site.

I don't get the Public. Facinated by us, but so much animosity.

There used to be a station on the East Side. Maybe around 101st and Ewing. Anyone know the exact address?

The Sunday Trib magazine ran a piece a few years back on the old Maxwell St. station, now being used as HQ for the UIC police.

They had some great interior shots, including a picture of the detective squad, one of whom was my great uncle.

Must have been taken back in the late 50s/early 60s. It turns out that the well dressed detective back then wore a white, short sleeved shirt and a very thin black bow tie. Even saw a couple of pocket protectors.

For a moment I thought I was looking at a picture of the regional Association of Good Humor Drivers. ;)

I believe it was 10120 S. Ewing (west side of street). It was called "East Side".

Back then he was allowed to conduct his investigation as he saw fit, was sought for input & was fully backed by his supervisors. Nowadays it shut up, just clear your inbox & constant meddling by incomptent supervisors.
My how things have changed...

you want to see some old stations go to 021,012,013 or 023. Pieces of crap with asbestos and poor ventilation where people are sick all the time. Either close them down or build new ones.
