Suburban Police Shootings

  • A 22-year-old Riverdale man was shot and killed by police in the south suburb as they were responding to a call of someone with an assault weapon, officials said. [...]

Police said that about 1:30 p.m., police were called to the area near 141st and School Street for a report of a man with an assault weapon. The man was one of three people in the area, according to police.

When police showed up they saw the three men on the 14100 block of School Street. When police exited their vehicle they pursued the men on foot.

Collins, who allegedly had a weapon, refused to drop it after police ordered him to do so, police said. The officer fired his gun, fatally hitting Collins. Police did not say if Collins was pointing the gun at the officer.
Once again, the media gets it wrong - it doesn't matter whether or not he was pointing his gun at the officer. The media really ought to read up on Illinois law.

If this second one happened in Chicago, we're sure the headline would have read, "CPD Kills Christmas Tree Harvester:"
  • Police fatally shot an ax-wielding man early Monday in northwest suburban Des Plaines, police said.

Krzysztos A. Kaczor, 24, of the 400 block of East Washington Street in Des Plaines, was shot by police in the 200 block of Oxford Road and was pronounced dead at 2:14 a.m. Monday at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

About 1:15 a.m., Des Plaines police responded to a report of shots fired in the 400 block of Washington Avenue and found Kaczor running through the neighborhood with an ax, according to a Des Plaines police release.
Great jobs by our suburban brethren.

I'm guessing that this dude must've been a Chicago-based CVL that had migrated to Des Plaines?

"Krzysztos A. Kaczor, 24, of the 400 block of East Washington Street in Des Plaines, was shot by police..."

I'll bet everything I own that his family DOESN'T provide the media with his 8th grade graduation photo.

Now a picture of him at a family wedding, complete with a bottle of spiritus and a bottle of Seagrams 7 on the table, that's another story...

It looks like the Des Plaines Police Chief is not qualified to lead the men and women of the CPD.

He actually has some balls!

Speaking of cop haters---

I've been reading this blog for some time now and see a lot of comments about "vote them all out", etc. If anyone wonders why we have such corrupt assholes in office they should start reading about two races highlighted in the link below

http://www.southtownstar.com/news/mcqueary/1934060,121309mcqueary.article

There was another article by mcqueary explaining how when Macellaio found out about Kelly Burke running, he added two other Irish gals on the ballot just to confuse voters.

Mike Macellaio, nephew of former Cook Co. judge Joe ("let 'em go Joe") Macellaio, who never met a criminal he didn't love, is going to muscle his way in just like Burke and cohorts scammed his wife into her judgeship, by having two others run against her and pull out of the race at the last minute.

It's not the voters, it's the people running for office and the stranglehold they have over the entire process from beginning to end.

As for Mike Macellaio, if he's anything like his pompous, arrogant Uncle Joe from Beverly, we've got trouble if he gets in.

As for Zalewski, enough said.

As for "voting them out", it's not how they get out, it's how they get in in the first place.

I really have to stop reading the comment sections of stories like these because it shows how much people hate the police and think they can do our job. There was one softball on the Trib’s website bitching that it isn’t illegal to carry an ax around on his property. He is correct until the guy started coming at the officer attempting to chop his head off with it. Then there are the obligatory “shoot em in the leg to stop him and not kill him” comments or my favorite “shoot a warning shot in the ground or the air to scare the offender.” God, some people are really soft.

It's obvious that there are some real policemen out in the suburbs. There's a former 015th district ranger who became fed up with the bullshit in Chicago, quit and is now a copper out in Park Ridge. There's also a former 025th district ranger who also became fed up with the city bullshit, also quit and is now a copper in Des Plaines. In any event, kudos to whoever shot this guy and made the City of Des Plaines a bit safer for it's residents. And to the members of the newsmedia who are reading this (you know you are). A Taser is not used for situations in which the offender is carrying a deadly weapon and threatening people with that deadly weapon. The use of deadly weapons or the implied use of deady weapons calls for a response that includes the use of deadly force. A Taser is not that deadly force. A pistol is. Shoot'em to the ground. THAT'S the appropriate response! Never bring an axe to a gunfight. You will lose.

**************

As someone who's not a cop, I would think that the second a cop's gun comes out and is aimed at you, that's sufficient enough of a warning. As for the other comments about hitting him in the leg and shooting at the ground..people are stupid and have no idea of the variables imposed by shooting a gun (I'll bet money they neither own one nor have shot one before).

Shoot a guy in the leg: 1) you'll miss, 2) you'll clip something vital, costing taxpayers a fortune if and when he dies (or not), 3)they'll claim you were cruel because you were aiming for the thigh and hit the kneecap instead.

Shoot a bullet into the air or the ground: What's that rule, that's part of the Big Four? "Always be aware of your target and what's beyond it." Shooting at the frozen ground and/or concrete is not a good idea..when the ricochet hits something they'll say you were being reckless.

Please, just keep shooting these assholes. People that obey the law and pay taxes are okay with it.

Police responded to a call of shots fired! Was the ax a 12-gauge or a 20-gauge? Let's all not jump for joy yet. A good ambulance-chasing lawyer could have a field day with this one. The only important thing is that no coppers got hurt!
