Range Rumor Confirmed
Not only is the City ordering over a million less rounds for training and qualification purposes, they are running out of or have run out of paper targets at various locations. This is first hand information and we have no reason to doubt it.
We're waiting for the day we have to double up on targets for qualifications. What a joke.

Free Academy Fitness Center use to any and all that show up on the 2nd Watch.
All your friends or family have to do is come in the side door of the Academy on the 2nd Watch. Tell the officer working the desk that they are a family member of a CPD officer,(even if they aren’t), and they can use the Fitness Center. NO ID checked, free gym use, free locker room use, no restrictions in the building.
Some of the staff members working at the Academy are permitting this, including the ADS’ Sgt.
Your family members can now save hundreds of $$ they pay Bally’s or Cardinal and use the CPD Fitness Center instead.
In the late 60's and early 70's we use to reshoot used targets. They had black and white tape squares to cover holes.
GOOD ,QUALIFICATION IS OVERRATED ANYWAY!ITS YOUR LIFE PRACTICE ON YOUR OWN!!END QUALIFICATIONS!!U SAVED MONEY!NEXT SUBJECT!!
Here at LAPD all Officers under the rank of Capt are required to qualify 5 times a year with your duty weapon and 2 times a year with the shot gun....we have a combat course (30 rounds) thats pretty easy and we have our 40 round Bonus course which you can shoot to increase your pay ($4.00 to $36.00 per month)...the ammo shortage is hitting us hard here as well....all officers are required to bring their own ammo to shoot bonus (if its your month to qualify they give you 30 rounds and you have to bring 10 rounds of your own). In the past if you were going to shoot bonus the range guys would just give you the ammo...
The LAPD is really big on shooting, but the huge city budget deficit is hitting us hard...all OT is required to be taken in time, once you get to a certain number (250 hrs) on the books, you are required to take time off...they are also talking about laying off recruits in academy and all officers that are still on probation...the camaraderie is not same as it is back home in chicago and the paperwork here in LA is completely ridiculous, many of the things you guys get away with back in chicago would get us fired and most likely put in jail!!
STAY SAFE and HAVE FUN!!!
Again, where is the union on this matter? FOP should address this situation to its members in the next newsletter. This seems like a major safety issue. But on the other hand, we have heard in 004 a big rumor about a very large state of the art shooting complex being built on the south side of 004 for the CPD. It is supposed to be by or near the FORD plant. Our north side of the district is always busy and have not have had time to personally check it out but its supposed to be a complex configured from plans of the failed Olympic shooting center. A certain lt. and a couple of sgts. swear that ground has already been broken. It is supposed to have an indoor and outdoor shooting range for pistols, rifles and shotguns. The place is supposed to have barricades comprised of street items familiar to police to use as barricades, ie., light poles, mailboxes, newspaper boxes, etc. That is why this million of rounds not ordered is somewhat of a puzzle. Anyone else that can add input? Be careful out there on the streets.

Here we just shoot 30 rounds at a stationary paper target. Once a year!
In 25 years I have never qualified with a shotgun. Patrol officers in a squad car cannot cary a shotgun. We can cary carbines if we pass the run, physical fitness test etc. take a week long course and qualify every 6 months. Except in my district there are no racks in the cars for carbines so no one is allowed to carry one.
When you say RANGE RUMOR, are you talking about that outdoor range in the 5th dist.? No need to build that now. Building a range for no one to shoot is like building a runway for no plane to land.
That range in 004 has been in the works for years. The model can even be viewed at the academy. The Olympics may have helped to see it become a reality, but so far can't say it has gone anywhere. It would be great if it does, only makes sense for a dept. this big to have some proper training facilities, but times are tough I guess. Oh and Daley has pissed away all the city's money when times were good.
Obama has made ammunition mucho expensive for everyone...INCLUDING US!!
Daley won't spend the money on ammo, a case of 9mm costs almost as much as a flat of flowers for the median strips.
What an asshole!
The next thing you will hear is our troops in Afganistan, Iraq and other hell holes will be running short. We will problably have our guys going gurilla and cobbling together small arms from the enemy. Will our people be using AK-47s with Chech and Chinese ammo because the Mesiah has demanded that all once fired military brass shells be shredded and not reloaded?
Look at the news clips, do our allies, including Iraqis use M-16s or are the carrying AKs?
For Gods Sake America Wake Up and Kick the Bastards out!!
somebody needs to grow a set and file a ULP or lawsuit...your lives are all in the hands of people who put fifty rounds a year through a gun?
Us suburban guys shoot hundreds of rounds a year to keep the skills sharp. And we pull the trigger for real lass often than u guys. Not to mention our old timers who dont shoot but every couple months usually find out their gun doesnt go bang when they qual....I'd hate to work in 11 or 02 for 11 months with a gun that doesnt work.
shooting a 30 round course once a year is like a dr doing one spinal surg a year and you r his next patient
Start printing up pics of J-Fed and Brust for targets.
Watch the qualification rates go through the roof!
Again, where is the union on this matter?
There is a union meeting tomorrow at FOP. Why don't you go and ask them personally. My guess is that you won't.

Shotguns ? You have shotguns ?
Shitcago has none on the street and a few have the Rifle after repeating the stupid power test.
At least coppers in the City of Angels have access to some type of long gun without having to call and wait for someone to drive over with one. No cop should have to deal with bank robbers without a long gun, ever.

Confirmed they are building it right next to riverview park, north of adventure land, by the skyline drive in! Oh and FOP the fuck our patrolmen are not interested!
Next qualification to be done on the Wii game system.
Signed, Quick Draw.
Start collecting rocks like I have been. Smooth and a little bigger than a golf ball is perfect. Allways keep a few bricks for large civil disturbances.
Think out of the box people!
"That is why this million of rounds not ordered is somewhat of a puzzle. Anyone else that can add input"
It isn't a puzzle, guarenteed the companies involved in the project i.e. the overall consulting firm, the archetecual firm, the engineering firm, the general contractor and subcontractors, etc... are all the same familiar connected companies. The cta has spent exhorbitant amounts of money (if the public only knew how much)redoing stations on the old Howard line, but are cutting back on basic services, the CPS is in a budget black hole, but still built a million dollar state of the art athletic field at Orr high school last year. The mayor will make sure his buddies don't feel the effects of the recession. Damn everyone else.

There is nothing wrong with using pasters (the small black and white stickers) most if not all competitive shooters use them and they work fine.
jody weis is said to be looking into equipping officers with bows and arrows--- cheaper than bullets and no harmful gunpowder emissions released into the environment.... officers will be given the option of compound or long bow.... geronimo -------->

I agree with you 100%. I used to go to an outdoor range 2X a year and shoot all my guns. That made me confident on the streets.
My problem is with your partner or assisting unit(s) that has a weapon with green bullits and a cylinder that will not open.
They are the problem. The ones that never intended to shoot a weapon but only needed a job.
Weekly inspection; if done correctly; could weed out POs that are if need of a firearms training.
LAPD.....
be careful with "time on the books".
if CA declares bankruptcy you will likely lose it.
IL is right behind CA financially.
To the poster on the shooting complex near Hegewisch and the Ford Motor Company, it is true that there is a CPD shooting range being currently built. The outside range is already built with a berm constructed around the perimeter. The Harvey range that CPD had for a while for rifle and shotgun training is no more as the lease expired. This new CPD shooting complex is going to be an impressive building. But. And I say BUT. THE FBI WILL HAVE COBBS ON IT AND ALSO THE DEA. So....you know what that means. Even though it will have CPD all over it, the FEDS will have the most use of it. And why is that? BECAUSE FEDERAL MONEY WAS GRANTED FOR THIS PROJECT. Just when you think things are changing for the CPD....a switcheroo and bam...more lowered morale.
WTF cut training to shit and they think it'll never be visited in a law suit... As far as the paper targets, may I make a suggestion... damn, I better not go there
Interesting liability issue for the next on-duty shooting. If anyone ever throws a round and god forbid hits the wrong person, the city is going to eat it big time for "failure to train". This is civil liabilty 101, if the Dept. (aka City) won't provide proper training, it is just the same as willful and wonton disregard for public safety. Any officer who finds him or herself in this position, should immediately indicate that the Dept. failed to give him or her proper firearms training. Qualifying once or twice a year with a handgun IS NOT PROPER TRAINING!!!
A bunch of us just shot for the Heavy Weapons Team. We were informed there was no handgun ammo. We usualy train when our shotgun goes dry, transition to your handgun. This is training 101. Today we were told when your shotgun is empty, just wait till everyone stops shooting. Not the instructors fault, just more silly shit.
Can I make a realistic suggestion as to how the city can save money? Fire all the TMA's. These do nothings stand in the intersection and watch the traffic signal. Duh, the light is green, let me waive at you to move. Duh, the light is red, let me make a big commotion for all the cars to stop. I love driving by them and rolling down my window on the green light and telling them, "Thank God and Daley you were her or I would have sat here all day." They are everywhere even where there is zero traffic. How much are these useless flailing traffic cones making. Fire the bunch of them and give me a fucking contract!
Then this city pitches a fit when an Officer shoot citizens because we don't get the practice and training required!
I smell lawsuit over training or lack of training!
There is a G.O. that states only C.P.D. personnel ONLY. No excuses
I'm Not a Cop but I respect what you all do for us. However, is it really wise to discuss this kind of issue on an open forum? It is a very important issue, and one that should be raised. But I would think discussing this may enbolden some wannabe gang bangers.
Slingshots and ball bearings like Tijuana Mexico did a while back!
Run out of paper targets??? How about the department running out of blue property bags? I guess they didn't figure that they needed to order more after making us inventory everything a shithead has on him.

hey, at least they've got to get their asses out of bed every day, instead of spending that time breeding.
Another funny thing is training P.O.'s on the tasers. The station only has five and the Sgt.'s use them. I highly doubt the city will spend money on tasers so what will we sign out? Just a radio I guess.

You know that someone's lining their pockets...
We went out to Mt Carrol Blackwater, and spoke with the boss out there. Guess how much he said it cost him to build five state of the art ranges with with 25 shooting positions a piece along with one of them having mechanized automated 8" resetting pie plates and an automatic moving target for less than 2 million. The live fire Shoot house was extra.
Typical shitcago bullshit.
But we might as well get Nerf dart guns the way this city is going.
I heard that next year the department will have us qualifying on the WII. At least that has moving targets!
There is nothing wrong with using pasters (the small black and white stickers) most if not all competitive shooters use them and they work fine.
Ya, and Jodie would look cute wearing them. Oh! I thought you meant pasties.
Who gives a flying fuck?

honey, that horse has already left the barn.
Just throw whatever you have at the bad guy--coffee cups, banana peels, cigarette butts. That's what we've been reduced to....
Four more and DONE with this shithole!
OT, but can someone please call Santa and request that he deliver a new set of balls to all the Captains and Lts homes, since it seems that theirs were cut off and put in storage somewhere in a closet at Headquarters. I have never seen so many bosses running around scared of their own shadow since the new 4-2 schedule policies were put in place. I can't believe these are the same bosses that once worked the mean streets of Chicago back in the day!!! Unreal! It is just paper, guys, relax!!!!
Seriously, the CPD requires qualification of 30 rounds on target once per year???
I'll put 50 - 100 rounds downrange on my lunchbreak once or twice a month.
But, God forbid, a civilian like me ever carry a firearm in this state.
went to the academy range last night. got my 100 rounds. no problems. plenty of targets there too.
Once The SCOTUS incorporates the Second Amendment in McDonald vs. Chicago (another boat load of wasted taxpayer $$$), open up the ranges to the law abiding public (for a fee) to practice with their new handgun.
Feds and other agencies make our range(village) $$$$$, we cost $$$$$...guess whos on that range more...F'n useless.
THE SLINGSHOTS ARE ON ORDER,

Thanks for the cheery postcard.
READ THIS ABOUT WHAT ARE GREAT LEADERS ARE TRYING TO PASS.
Unfortunately, there is proposed anti-gun legislation moving forward in the Illinois House of Representatives that could severely hamper our ability to service your outdoor sporting goods and shooting needs by creating an unnecessary firearm permit and registration process. Please take the time to educate yourself about this legislation and what it means to your rights as a gun owner.
The Illinois House Bill 0180, which could be voted on at any time, and its exact copy
House Bill 5734 would establish a state-based licensing system for all retailers that sell handguns, including Cabela's retail store in Hoffman Estates. The legislation would allow the state police to fully regulate licensees and deny permit applications arbitrarily under a "may-issue" system. These bills would also allow the state police to register all firearm purchases.
We encourage you to contact your Illinois State Representative today to voice your opposition to
HB 0180 and HB 5734. For contact information for your Representative, please visit the Illinois State Board of Elections Web site. Click here for details.
HB 0180 could go to vote at any time, so please take the time today to make your voice heard and encourage your friends and family to do the same.
