Um, Duh?
- When convicted mob bookmaker Carl Dote was interviewed on the popular WTTW-Channel 11 show "Check, Please!" about Danny's, the restaurant he runs in Melrose Park, there were a few things he made clear: [...] "I'm the owner," Dote said in the unedited version of the interview, adding that his wife, Paula, was the co-owner.
But when it came to the forms needed to get a liquor license, Dote -- a twice-convicted felon for illegal gambling -- isn't listed as owner. In fact, his name is nowhere to be found.
Felons typically can't obtain a liquor license.
But officials in Melrose Park and in Des Plaines, which hopes to be home to a new casino, don't appear to be overly troubled.
No one ever seems to be troubled when Outfit figures suddenly find themselves within one-degree of separation from all sorts of things that they shouldn't be near - liquor licenses, casino licenses, adult entertainment licenses, police brass, city council members, construction firms, municipal contracts, mayor's brothers, mayor's sons, mayors themselves, etc.
It's kind of interesting to those who actually pay attention.

And yet I gotta fill out that stupid fucking Board of Ethics Statement every fucking year!
There's no such thing as the mafia.
Ok so the guy ran book a few years ago and runs a restaurant. Big deal. How many neighborhood joints run book right out of the bar now? And no one does shit about them. No one is saying this guy is still doing it. We have a convicted felon that did time whos an alderman. Wheres the front page coverage on him?
Where is US Attorney Patrick Fitzgerald and the FBI?
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm........
What about the illegal gambling casinos the Outfit is operating in Chicago with immunity from Daley?
WTF? Are you kidding me? I have been eating at Danny's for some time now. You mean this place is mob connected? You mean when I'm walking in and out of that place the Feds are probably watching? You mean those neckbones Danny's specializing in that I love so much might be .....?! And those meatball sandwiches?! Oh come one, I don't believe it for a second. Carl is a likeable guy. He passes for a Chicago Street and Sans guy the way he talks and jokes. Come on. You got this one all wrong. All wrong.
Melrose Park. Let's say it slower, in case anyone missed it; M-e-l-r-o-s-e P-a-r-k.
It's somewhere (physically and practically-speaking) between Cicero and Elmwood Park.
"Wha..." (making the Silvio Dante shrug) aaat's da matter wit dat?

You're funny.
Say what you want but the food is amazing at both restaurants. How many felons do we have working for the City of Chicago or for the government in general?
He's obviously turned his life around unfortunately it's in his Golden years....anyway the FEDS don't pay much attention to the young upwardly mobile wise guys.
All kidding aside, they have great food.
I love neckbones, I am going to try this place. I don't care who owns it or who watches it. If the food is good and not overpriced, I am going!!
Let's focus on the more important things about this story.
Such as, is the food any good at this restaurant?
Heyy, fuhgitaboutit.
U forgot to add the White House to that list

Funny how?
GAMBLING in Chicago, Chief Brown say not!
Carl Dote and his Brother Tony used to own the bar at NewCastle and Grand Ave, they are straight up good guys, connected up but so what, nobody complains about all the hooked up reverends on the westside who did time for dope dealing and run with the politicians and can be seen at all these fundraisers, or the gangbangers who all of a sudden become crusaders to stop the violence. Big deal the guy was a bookie. How many of us bet on games at our neighborhhod bars, run pools etc. We need to spend some time in trying to bring home these young soldiers getting blown up in the BULLSHIT WAR. Lets keep it real.
What about the CAPS director? Remember his little problem.
FUGGEDABOUDIT!
Dinning at Danny's for lunch is like a scene for the Soprano's. The place is full of wise guys, municipal employees, and cops. But the corned beef on rye and home made chips are fantastic. The fried meatball sam'ich is unique. I would highly recommend it. We always laugh and joke you get lunch and a show. Just watch and listen to the clientele.
Not a cop!

Yes, but he was giving the info to politically correct gang members.
"they are straight up good guys, connected up but so what"
So what? go to any library or bookstore and pick up some mob books and look at the very real pictures of people blown up, shot, hung on meathooks, blowtorched, tortured etc.....
