Disbanding the Teams

Someone who obviously sees the things that we only hear about:
  • OFF Topic but on Friday I saw the paper work begining to cancel the details of all GUN and PSN teams in the Areas. The memo read due to the low productivity of all the gun teams. Also it was told that there is no need for gun teams anymore due to the Gang Enforcement Unit taking up the slack of doing more search warrants and focus on guns. As well as the increase focuse of the CAGE unit. The CAGE unit may possibly be expanded. The memo also stated that the CAGE and GUN/PSN teams are duplicating efforts and these resources can be foucsed in areas of need. The Gun and PSN team are to be sent back to the district by the 5th period. Also there is still discussion of removing the Saturation teams as well, and leaving the midnight tact team.

I saw the numbers from the memo and without removing the midnight tact teams and sending the sat and gun teams back (with removing a inside spot the meaning the sec.) thats 150 po's and 16 Sgt's back to the Districts by the 5th period. Again the draft memo stated that due to the TRU and MSF there is no longer a need for Sat teams as MSF and TRU are deployed at the request of the Area Deputy Chief.

The memo further stated with the anticipation of the contract being settled and retirements in a large increase that these officers are going to be needed in the districts until the manpower issued can be resolved. If an additional officers are needed the midnight tact teams can also be sent back with an additional 50 p.o.'s and 5 Sgt's.

So there you have it boys and girls thats how they plan to place an extra 150 to 200 officers and 20 some Sgt's back in the Districts by summer.
This summer isn't going to be anything but a holding action as far as we can tell. And barely that.

Expand CAGE? All they do is violate peoples rights to bear arms. They bully there way into peoples homes and confiscated all there guns.
What do you expect when you have a meritorious SGT. who writes a memo alerting everyone all the way up to the Superintendent that he obtained information from an informant (from behind his desk of all things) that a major gang leader for one of the most infamous Chicago gangs was being released and that there was going to be a party in honor of it at a well known South Side Park.
Well after some "research and verification" was done by the Superintendent's office they figured out that this Gang Leader has been incarcerated since the late 1980's and in fact is serving an 80 year sentence for domestic terrorism and an additional 75 year sentence for Murder.
What a blithering MERIT IDIOT!

As soon as they lift the GUN BAN like they did in our nation's capitol they will all be reassigned as well.

This is a very vicious rumour. It so happens this rumour has already been put to rest. My guys asked me about this week and was addressed accordingly. The gun teams are not going to be disbanded. Please put this to rest as soon as possible and go to another topic. The only people who get hurt are the hard workers who have enough things to do coming to work day in and day out and then hear stuff like this that adds more stress to their already busy agenda. Again the gun teams are not going to be disbanded. The only good rumour we have heard is that the contract is close to closure with the contract going to be very, very good to the guys and gals with a retro check made available on 01 Jul. Continue working hard and good things will happen.

There are so many units that take away manpower from the districts that's is outrageous! So many of these units do the same task woring the same types of crimes. The districts need the manpower badley. I would totally agree with getting rid of the Gun teams, Sat teams etc. There is no need for them. What we need is more police partolling and responding to 911 calls.

(the 15th of each month is the best possible day to leave and get your retirement check six weeks later. the retirement board only meets once a month and the 15th is the magic day, any other day will result in you waiting 8 to 10 weeks for that first check).

And my personal favorite question, why do we see the sat teams, msf and tru riding around 3 and 4 deep but every district has down cars and one man cars on the 3rd and 1st watches?

Most of the guns are brought in by search warrant. And most houses in the West and South sides have guns. So big freaking deal. And when you guys do get a gun off the street, it is based on pure chance/luck! You do enough searches and stop enough people and you will find a gun here and there.

We need patrol officers. In 025 1st watch we are very short. We usually have seven to nine 99 units and the wagon is a beat car plus the wagon.

Patrol needs help. An officer can find guns, dope, and even pissers while wearing a blue shirt. No need to have all of those specialized teams.

150 po's back to districts. Big f'n deal.

That's 2 per watch citywide; beat cars have a relief factor of .9 so that's the equivalent of 1 PO back per district per watch. And (s)he'll be on the medical....
Net gain=0

Or else, some districts will get more than their 6 PO's back, and that commander will immediately create another tact, burglary, robbery, dog fighting, gun, troubled housing, whatever team, and you will never see any of them.

Two reasons Einstein,
1. They don't ride 99. Someones partner takes off, they jump on another car.
2. The garage doesn't give the units pool cars. The Districts actually have priority when it comes to pool cars.

One can be a proactive patrol officer. In 025 1st watch, the 30 sector cars come in with good arrests while the saturation team, and tact team comes in with drinkers, pissers, cannabis, and of course obstruction of traffic by a non-motorist. Don't believe me? Look at the numbers!

3/15/2010 08:29:00 AM

Once again, you are wrong, I know for a fact that atl least one area has gotten more guns off the street than on search warrants. All proven stats. So you are merely wrong. But I wouldnt expect any more, police officers worry about everyone else but themselves. They complain about everything and everyone.

I work in Area 3. We were told that whenever we get a gun CALL THE GUN TEAM. I am just an average cop and got maybe five guns in the last two or three years. I never called the gun team. What the fuck for?

019 tact has more guns and guns with a head than the A/3 gun team over the past year. This is very sad. 019 is one of the slowest if not the slowest dist. in the city. Why does A/3 gun team exist? The north side districts are doing their own and dont need em

"And my personal favorite question, why do we see the sat teams, msf and tru riding around 3 and 4 deep but every district has down cars and one man cars on the 3rd and 1st watches?"

Two reasons Einstein,
1. They don't ride 99. Someones partner takes off, they jump on another car.
2. The garage doesn't give the units pool cars. The Districts actually have priority when it comes to pool cars.

3/15/2010 08:23:00 PM

EXACTLY EINSTEIN, if someones partner takes off they ride three deep. Funny, even w/o someones partner taking off the patrol division is sendinding out one man cars on the 3rd and 1st watches. According to your theory, einstein when a beat car doesnt have a partner they should go out with another beat car? Oh no wait, im sorry only the elite get to to that. Why can't tru/msf go out as a one man unit when their partner takes off? Disband all these fucking units, put everybody in patrol and watch crime drop.

Didn't crime go down when they left patrol? That's what the stats say Homie. I know you don't care about stats. Why don't you ask the elite tac boys to be your partner when your both sans partner? Or how about one of the incident cars that are actually working the desk.

Oh yeah Junior, if your 99 you don't have to work the streets. I'm surprised a stud like you with your vast experience and knowledge didn't know that.

&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&&

Just a couple of thoughts to add here...

I would think the idea of having a GUN TEAM is to focus on those SELLING guns to the gangbangers or running them into Illinois or even Cook county/City of Chicago ...whatever

My point is to get to the info necessary to uncover these felons you basically need LEVERAGE and that leverage stems from things like a "BAD CASE" on may have the shithead. Interviewing and making plays with the shit heads takes a lot of give and take and usually involves VERY AGGRESSIVE P/O's(a Dept. Red Flag nowadays?).

Actually having Class X charges or even Federal charges even violations of Parole...that would force the hand of the shithead whether through his lawyer or not to GIVE UP the name/house/number/..etc. is essential. therefore one must work VERY AGGRESSIVELY maybe getting CR.#'s like we used to..

Are there really p/o's out there that actually understand this? Does anyone want to blemish their records anymore? Are there enough of them experienced even in this area of police work with 3 yrs or so on the job?

I think NOT but they are assigned to these types of units that operate under soft bosses that never did this stuff nor have the balls to follow through without worrying of career suicide with a bad arrest or beef or law suit.

We are not indemnified by the City 100% hell we aren't even backed up by our immediate supervisors 100%!

Then the worry the Dept. has about corruption...that stress alone is enough for most Deputies to pull the plugs on these types of units and filter the officers back to their units...Is that whats happenbing here?

A/3 is not alone in whether they need a gun team. I feel just because people work in A/2 or A/4 or A/1 it does not make them more qualified to work these shitheads for information either but the phone calls to get the spots are always there for them.

I can see the "G" trying to eliminate us more and more and moving in on these areas and maybe having a couple of our officers detailed over in the future. All for the FUTURE success of some government TASK FORCES and someone elses political agenda.

I feel Chicago is done due to the fear of the lawsuits and the corruption angles recently put upon our department over the last several years.

NOW : Its Curb to Curb blueboys and Dicks just respond after the fact...while the public sees us on patrol...and leave the big busts to the "G"! Thats seems what they want.

Times have changed...

Someone should pull area fives gun team stats over the past year. Its rediculous.95% of the team come in with one baggers. Then theyll lock up a couple of guys with six rocks and the whole team goes on the paper. So the sgt walks in sees his whole teamon a simple dope pinch and doesnt even ask if they got a gun with the arrest which they never do,but they make their cort time. And this idiot sgt is still running the team. The team has as many lawsuits a month as they do arrests. Another sgt there wants the gun team and pulled the stats the sat team had like 80 bullshit arrests ,but 80 is a good number .The gun team had like 6and no guns.If they had a sgt that was a worker at one time and didnt put all his friends on the team they might be ok.But the sgt is a moron.Get rid of them yesterday
