Preliminary information through February shows overall crime has dropped 10.3 percent compared to the first two months of last year, Chicago police officials said today.
The information shows a decrease in violent crime of 15.1 percent and property crime of 9 percent, marking the 14th consecutive month that overall, violent and property crime categories have fallen in the city...

We all know that the stats are bullshit. As a new police officer in 010, in 1968, I thought it strange that they told us at roll call that if a person wants to report a burglary because unk person(s) entered a apartment & removed a package of chicken gizzards & a 6-pack of beer, we should use our heads and kill a crime by making it a CDTP & Theft. No sense in making the Commander accountable for a Burglary that no one cared about. I sure did love working Beat 1011 back then.

Was crime REALLY down or was crime just not reported and/or recorded?
Before taking a pat on the back, let's do some thinking here. If many are not doing their job (or doing the minimum like sitting in the car), crime would seem to go down because you (CPD) are not going after anyone.
Crime is still out there (and probably growing in this economy) it's just that you aren't chasing it.
Any government statistic especially performance numbers or unemployment numbers have been so massaged that they are a joke.

Statistics can be read many ways They are just a tool and shouldn't be used as the "endgame"...unless you are an outsider and don't know any better.
I see a part, a BIG part, of the reduction as a factor of manpower. No Officers to respond, higher response time. Higher response time, victims don't wait. Victims don't wait. Victim doesn't wait, no victim. No victim, no crime.
Stop running this Department by the numbers. You have hundreds of Officers working on statistics for your meetings. These Officers should be on the streets.

It's all about the little things. For instance I always driving safely & cautiously to all BS calls including the mucho bogus "man with a gun calls".
The overall theme I'm trying to convey is that as a police officer I "Have Pen and Will Travel". because I love to write reports. The more the better! It's job security! Go stats go!
I want at least a 3% across the board increase by the end of next quarter!
All these stats should be used as bargaining chips with the arbitrator. Much less crime with less P.O.s. Everyone deserves a raise of at least as much as the crime stats have dropped. Let the lies be used against shorty and j-pud.

That 50% graduation rate is BS. The figure they are using is 50% of the senior class (4th year student).
They aren't counting all the students that drop out along the way.
For example, a famous south side high school had an incoming freshman class of approximately 500. Four years later, the senior class only had 100 students and they graduated 50 of them. They boasted of their 50% graduation rate.
In reality, the graduation rate was only 10% of the original freshman class.
Check other schools. I'll bet the numbers are similar.
Did you guys see what Gov. Quinn suggested for State workers? I told you guys before, if we continue to allow them to do this BS to our Exempts and the City's Exempt members, it WILL come back down on us! They have no raise coming, they are loosing 22% of their salary, the health insurance still went up and they have to pay it, property taxes, water bills, lights, gas, food etc. all went up. Tuition went up and their salaries went down. I am not for the thing that people love to say, "They should be happy they have a job!" Remember, these same things will be said about us! The more we watch them loose out, the easier it will be for them to force them to impose those same sanctions on us. Hell, they would make 92% more by making us take those cuts than them! If the council passes some blatant ordinance that encompasses all city salaries, WE ARE STUCK! I have my whole police career ahead of me, so I would think I will be going through at least 3 more contract negotiations. We better wake up!!!

A Ruse Entry Burglary is now a Deceptive Practice & is not a Part 1 Crime. The commander looks good & Chicago looks good. A kicked in door with property moved & not taken is now a CDTP & not a burglary. These bosses won't approve the reports unless the UCR is lowered to a Part 2. This is happening All over the city.
But what these bright bosses don't realize is that we Detectives re-change the UCR to the appropriate heading.

Killing crime is the CPD business under J-Fed. I had pry marks on my garage door twice and it was reported as CDTP. I would beleive PINOCCHIO be fore J-Fed. He is clueless and not the police, as he believes. Wearing OUR UNIFORM dose not make him a PO only disrespects our fallen brothers and sisters.
The only thing J-Fed has reduced is the morale 100% in the Chicago Police Department.

We feel you pain here in Mt Greenwood. We are right up with you in paying taxes but our beat car is always sent east to take care of the "taxpayers". I'm not blaming the regular people on 2211 because they are good and try to stay in the hood. I cannot wait until I retire and leave this State.
And I hope the Arbitrator reads this site and the Papers. They city cried poor mouth to him but them turns around with 1.8 Million for a updated website. Never money for police, fire and teachers but plenty for non-taxpayers and pet projects.

Everytime you were assigned a burglary you had to call a Sgt and he would determine what classification it would be,the majority of the time he would have you write it up as a CDTP or theft
from building/car.I took a lot of crap from ODPO's over that,can't say that I blamed them one bit.
When I seen this, i wondered how is crime down?
I listen everyday to a police scanner and it seems that alot of shitheads have guns and are shooting them all over. People are being shot, held up, stabbed, beat up after school, and crime is down?

016 is taking an ass beating right now in burglaries and the tact teams are too busy doing vehicle impounds on suspended/revoked license because someone,who wants to generate revenue,came up with the idea that about 70% of burglars drive around with suspended/revoked license and if you stop them,tvb them and tow their autos, you prevent a burglary.Might not be a bad idea if you were targeting burglars.Not the case here.It's amazing, some of the bullshit that goes on in that office.

Department down 10% in manpower equates into a 10% reduction in Cook county Jail population and a 10% reduction in crime due to changes in IUCR classification.
You can rob people more effectively with a pen than a gun; same thing with crime fighting. Murder gets cut down to Death Investigation due to unknown reasons. Burglary goes to theft or damage to property. And on and on.
All without hiring more or promoting more. It's the man behind the curtain, count your change, watch your wallet, trust no one, question everything and trust no one currently in power.

1. no officer eats or sleeps until his soldiers do.
2. Officers make their camps last.
3. Officers get paid after their troops do.
4. Officers drive what their troops drive.
5. Officers have done and have demonstrated proficiency at any task that they expect their soldiers to do.
6. Officers never fraternize with the troops, much less try to fuck every female soldier in their command.
7. Military officers always credit their troops and never hold news conferences to pat themselves on the back.
8. A military officer never tells a troop off in public, he will defer to the soldier's chain of command.
9. The military promotes people "who have been there and done that." CPD promotes clout heavy trash who "have never been there and never done shit.
10. So shut up skipper.
The CPD is ass backwards. Exempts expect every little perk and never take the blame for anything.
