Okay. An open post. Can anyone explain why there are a little over 600 officers that were placed in the behaviorial program and subjected to a complete physical. ( Blood / Urine samples taken per direct order ) Now, it was determined that this " Program " was a big mistake. There was an apology letter issued to the officers. Second City Cop had a post earlier on the CR numbers this week with a person submitting in the comment section of the actual letter pages that were sent out. It was a Settlement Agreement Letter that the FOP was requesting the involved officers to sign. Most of the officers did not sign this letter. That meant the officers did not agree with this letter at all claiming a great injustice had been done to the involved officers. Why isn't the FOP doing anything for the members to help these officers out? The involved officers do not agree with the contents of the letter. Syd Davis was in charge of being the representative from the FOP to help the involved officers. The officers claims of restitution are falling on FOP deaf ears. Many of the involved officers are really frustrated with the FOP. What kind of union turns their back on their own? There must be somebody out there that can help with this case. Any police officers privy to contractual rights. There is a private attorney that stated there was indeed a violation of civil rights of the officers. The question is how much in dollars was this violation? Officers have brought up slander of their reputations, pain and suffering, depression, stress related issues with family and friends, and loss of a promotion. If it can be proved, the loss of promotion would be the most damaging in the eyes of a jury. Another attorney stated sue the FOP as well as the City. While another attorney stated all the officers have to come together in order for something monetary to happen. Phone calls via networking have begun again amongst the involved officers. Please. Can someone with some smarts on this matter help. There was an officer that even stated something about arresting one of the FOP members on the basis of theft. Sometimes anger and frustration can make good people turn crazy. We need leadership now and that is not coming from the FOP. We are surprised that the FOP Newsletter does not have anything to add to this situation. Greg Bella seems to have some smarts and is well liked by the membership. Any input?

Maybe they should start soliciting all the female reverends and alderman, complaining to the media and marching around demanding equality as well...or we could all just STFU and worry about what truly matters: Promoting those that have a good work ethic, proven results and most importantly those that know how to treat, take care of and have the backs of their patrol officers...regardless of their sex or race. I'm so glad our union is working tirelessly to solve our contract problems. By the time this BS is resolved it'll be time to start on the next contract.
Now that may bode well for us-in the long run-but as for all that union dues...for what? The city isn't going to budge and the mediator could give two shits. They are all getting paid: to include our union buddies.

Did anyone notice that at the press conference where J-Fed announced the Lopez "lateral" and 4 other Hispanic promotions, AS Cuello was nowhere near J-Fed on the stage? She was in fact on the far end next to Lopez showing her support for him.
How did J-Fed let that one happen? He should have insisted his top Brass show a united front. She has no respect for this job and only does things that will help her personal agenda. Anything to get her promoted to Superintendent!

It pisses me off to no end that professional sports players make MILLIONS of dollars for what they do. I'm not knocking any sport, because I'm a huge sports fan, but I've always felt that P/O's, FF's, EMS, Military, teachers and nurses should be making mega millions. Y'all see the worst that society has to offer, and so many people seem to forget that and/or take it for granted.

What we need is a bloody summer in Chicago. The perfect storm will be upon us very soon. We are at an all time low for manpower and there have been no promotions in the past two years. The morale is poor at best. The gangs are getting bigger and we lack the resources to address the problems out there. We have a Superintendent that is pissing in the wind and probably counting his days before he is finished.
The Mayor is more concerned with his re-election bid since he only has about a 25% approval rating. Any Police or Fire employee who votes for him is insane.
I am looking forward to new leadership and possibly a return to better days ahead for all City employees.

Not renewing this P.O.S.'s contract will be a Huge step in the right direction. But look at the documentation that J-Jag is doing. Every fifteen minutes he has a news conference telling everyone how good he is. LOOK for him to SUE the city for wrongful termination if he does not get a contract extension. The family friend lawyer can't believe the FOP are so blatant in their stupidity for trying to swindle the officers out of any kind of settlement. Also the family friend attorney is police friendly and just might make this a pro bono piece of work. Stay strong and stay tuned.
Open posting...there was a trial last week in federal court regarding civil rights violations on a 14th District search warrant. The trial was on damages only. Plaintiff was awarded the grand total of one dollar. Her attorney will not now get fees. If he was on a contingency basis he gets forty cents now. Earlier in the week a jury came back with a finding of not liable for the police officers. Just thought you should know that.
How could Aunt B fix things? She's part of the problem. What ever happened to her drug-busted condo fiasco?? Besides being swept under the rug by Jody, anything come out of it with IAD or did they cooperate by supplying the broom and rug?

An Edmonton police officer responding to a "shots fired" call at a car dealership discovered on arrival that one of the two dead men at the scene was her husband.
Both worked at Great West Chrysler as did a third critically wounded man. The shooter apparently shot the two coworkers before he turned the gun on himself.
Bart Yachimec, the dealership's owner, said his wounded employee has undergone two operations since the shooting. Colleagues are praying that he will pull through.
“Our prayers go out to the families. We still have one in the hospital that I'm going down to check on. We hope that he makes it, we pray that he makes it. That is the key now,” Mr. Yachimec said Saturday.
“They operated on him and he came out. They had to take him back in for a second operation.”
A police officer who rushed to respond to the fatal shooting discovered that one of the dead men was her husband. Police say the other dead man was the shooter. No names have been officially released.
Great West employees identified the shooter as Dave Burns, whom they say was recently taken off the job for making racially-charged comments.
Note: While prayers are most in order for the officer's husband and the other innocent wounded, it should be noted that this happened in heavily gun-controlled Canada. And, BTW, Edmonton is about the same size as Austin, Texas. Austin has fewer homicides.

It amazes me that the public is not up in arms over their Police working without a contract for almost 3 years. When the suburban teacher's contract runs out for a week, it is news for days in the paper and on TV. Families are out picketing for the teachers. Soldiers return from 10 months in Iraq (God bless them all)and are admired and adorned (rightfully so) yet be a soldier for this city for 20 plus years and a large number of citizens hate us and the rest of the population barely knows we exist. The Soldiers of the City (CPD) keep anarchy at bay. How does this go un-noticed? Where is the clamor from the citizens? We are waging a war right here in our back yards against animals that are as deadly as any terrorist. Does the public not realize the murder rate in this city compressed into a handful of districts? With more support from our citizens and a union president who would at least occasionally call a press conference on at hand issues, we would prevail. I realize that because of an arbitrator he can’t address the press but where was he before almost 3 yrs ago. Where is our union president when the press filets the Police after a shooting with “Alleged this” and “IPRA that.” The things that kept me going in the past: Pride, Respect, Camaraderie, Safe home/ neighborhood are falling away so fast leaving nothing but just a job and not a passionate career. This is a CIVIL SERVICE JOB!
The only fair equation in determining Chicago Police Officer promotions is the following:
Take a promotional test that is administered and scored by an independent service. The ranking order should simply reflect the percentage of correct answers, seniority and age. In addition, there should not be any study groups that are conducted by Chicago Police sgt.,lieut., commanders, exempts ect... unless the study group is offered to all test takers.
Evaluation are subjective and should never be used. Education should not be used other than the educational level required at the time of hire.
The TEST SCORE is simply the fairest method in determining promotion. Throw away all the reasons why someone should be promoted over another other than a better TEST SCORE.
Please take away all the adjectives that have been used to describe our bosses. All I care about is their TEST SCORE.
Finally a message to any officer that was promoted meritoriously, you are simply undeserving and are not respected. You can lie and show your stripes, bars ect... to your kiddies but deep down you will always know that you're a big fat fake.
Also let's rid ourselves of the phrase meritoriously promoted . It should be more appropriately called the politically anointed.

Jesus man, I know we don't like most clout boys and girls but haven't you had your fill of working with people who are good test takers but have no fucking common sense?
I am a "test taker" and I've seen my share of guys and gals with a lot of "book learning" and no "street smarts."
I also know that the greatest street warriors aren't always the best supervisors (although it certainly helps to know and understand the job). The craziest part of law enforcement in this country is that the only way we seem to be able to reward someone for a job well done is to remove him/her from that job and promote them to a job in which they may be utterly incompetent!
I'm not saying that all tests are wrong but they are only one tool to evaluate. As things become more complex in law enforcement, we need to get away from "one size fits all" management and hiring.
Trying to teach a good street cop to become a computer geek or accountant and investigate kiddie por or computer or financial crimes is usually a joke. It may be easier to teach the computer geek some law enforcement skills that he or she may never use.
It's also unfair to paint all clout boys and girl with the same brush. Yes, there are boobs and hacks who don't have your back but, frankly, I'd rather see a mediocre street cop being promoted to a records supervisor where he or she may actually do a decent job than to keep them on the road where they can really fuck things up.
And every so often they actually do promote someone who deserves it. I knew a hardworking non-clout guy who never got any thanks from his bosses. One afternoon some breaking shit spills over from the burbs and he not only serves the burbs warrant but goes beyond that to recover a shitload of stolen property from the burbs and cracks a burglary ring with some terrorist links. Burbs chief drops a dime on Shortshanks and voila, promotion.
Yes, that's the exception. But anyone who thinks that a test score is the end all and be all is, well, "very misinformed."

This is a CIVIL SERVICE JOB. If you hired, promoted based on legitimate test scores,seniority, and age the moral would simply be better on this department.

I think that hard work and qualifications should always trump someone's race and sex, however, we all know that doesn't always happen. There are some very qualified male white exempts as well as very qualified minorities.
I don't agree that people should step up their game. I think that they either have a good work ethic and know how to take care of their troops or they don't.
I have also seen a number of intelligent and book smart people get promoted off of the test, but they lack leadership skills and the ability see beyond their own agendas and take care of the blue shirts.
I agree, I would also not like seeing people get promoted just based on who they know, the color of their skin and their sex.

Okay. An open post. Can anyone explain why there are a little over 600 officers that were placed in the behaviorial program and subjected to a complete physical. ( Blood / Urine samples taken per direct order ) Now, it was determined that this " Program " was a big mistake. There was an apology letter issued to the officers. Second City Cop had a post earlier on the CR numbers this week with a person submitting in the comment section of the actual letter pages that were sent out. It was a Settlement Agreement Letter that the FOP was requesting the involved officers to sign. Most of the officers did not sign this letter. That meant the officers did not agree with this letter at all claiming a great injustice had been done to the involved officers. Why isn't the FOP doing anything for the members to help these officers out? The involved officers do not agree with the contents of the letter. Syd Davis was in charge of being the representative from the FOP to help the involved officers. The officers claims of restitution are falling on FOP deaf ears. Many of the involved officers are really frustrated with the FOP. What kind of union turns their back on their own? There must be somebody out there that can help with this case. Any police officers privy to contractual rights. There is a private attorney that stated there was indeed a violation of civil rights of the officers. The question is how much in dollars was this violation? Officers have brought up slander of their reputations, pain and suffering, depression, stress related issues with family and friends, and loss of a promotion. If it can be proved, the loss of promotion would be the most damaging in the eyes of a jury. Another attorney stated sue the FOP as well as the City. While another attorney stated all the officers have to come together in order for something monetary to happen. Phone calls via networking have begun again amongst the involved officers. Please. Can someone with some smarts on this matter help. There was an officer that even stated something about arresting one of the FOP members on the basis of theft. Sometimes anger and frustration can make good people turn crazy. We need leadership now and that is not coming from the FOP. We are surprised that the FOP Newsletter does not have anything to add to this situation. Greg Bella seems to have some smarts and is well liked by the membership. Any input?

It will take more than a few years. That's all any of the sworn police bosses are talking about. How long it will take to fix the Department after the Fed and civilian bosses go.

the fop and the city are in cahoots to whoever is posting on the behaviorial program. you have to spend some money on a private attorney to get results. we know plenty of cops put on the program as they call it that feel the same way. there is hardly any solidarity now because the morale of the department is broken. we hear swat is on standby for anybody getting any ideas about going off in the fop building.

The family friend lawyer can't believe the FOP are so blatant in their stupidity for trying to swindle the officers out of any kind of settlement. Also the family friend attorney is police friendly and just might make this a pro bono piece of work. Stay strong and stay tuned.

Open posting...there was a trial last week in federal court regarding civil rights violations on a 14th District search warrant. The trial was on damages only. Plaintiff was awarded the grand total of one dollar. Her attorney will not now get fees. If he was on a contingency basis he gets forty cents now. Earlier in the week a jury came back with a finding of not liable for the police officers. Just thought you should know that.

Its time to stop griping about not getting the 4-2 schedule the 1st time around and concentrate on next time!!!!! An Edmonton police officer responding to a "shots fired" call at a car dealership discovered on arrival that one of the two dead men at the scene was her husband.
Both worked at Great West Chrysler as did a third critically wounded man. The shooter apparently shot the two coworkers before he turned the gun on himself.
Bart Yachimec, the dealership's owner, said his wounded employee has undergone two operations since the shooting. Colleagues are praying that he will pull through.
“Our prayers go out to the families. We still have one in the hospital that I'm going down to check on. We hope that he makes it, we pray that he makes it. That is the key now,” Mr. Yachimec said Saturday.
“They operated on him and he came out. They had to take him back in for a second operation.”
A police officer who rushed to respond to the fatal shooting discovered that one of the dead men was her husband. Police say the other dead man was the shooter. No names have been officially released.
Great West employees identified the shooter as Dave Burns, whom they say was recently taken off the job for making racially-charged comments.
Note: While prayers are most in order for the officer's husband and the other innocent wounded, it should be noted that this happened in heavily gun-controlled Canada. And, BTW, Edmonton is about the same size as Austin, Texas. Austin has fewer homicides.

It amazes me that the public is not up in arms over their Police working without a contract for almost 3 years. When the suburban teacher's contract runs out for a week, it is news for days in the paper and on TV. Families are out picketing for the teachers. Soldiers return from 10 months in Iraq (God bless them all)and are admired and adorned (rightfully so) yet be a soldier for this city for 20 plus years and a large number of citizens hate us and the rest of the population barely knows we exist. The Soldiers of the City (CPD) keep anarchy at bay. How does this go un-noticed? Where is the clamor from the citizens? We are waging a war right here in our back yards against animals that are as deadly as any terrorist. Does the public not realize the murder rate in this city compressed into a handful of districts? With more support from our citizens and a union president who would at least occasionally call a press conference on at hand issues, we would prevail. I realize that because of an arbitrator he can’t address the press but where was he before almost 3 yrs ago. Where is our union president when the press filets the Police after a shooting with “Alleged this” and “IPRA that.” The things that kept me going in the past: Pride, Respect, Camaraderie, Safe home/ neighborhood are falling away so fast leaving nothing but just a job and not a passionate career. God Bless the Police, America and our Troops. Stay safe.

Take a promotional test that is administered and scored by an independent service. The ranking order should simply reflect the percentage of correct answers, seniority and age. In addition, there should not be any study groups that are conducted by Chicago Police sgt.,lieut., commanders, exempts ect... unless the study group is offered to all test takers.
Evaluation are subjective and should never be used. Education should not be used other than the educational level required at the time of hire.
The TEST SCORE is simply the fairest method in determining promotion. Throw away all the reasons why someone should be promoted over another other than a better TEST SCORE.
Please take away all the adjectives that have been used to describe our bosses. All I care about is their TEST SCORE.
Finally a message to any officer that was promoted meritoriously, you are simply undeserving and are not respected. You can lie and show your stripes, bars ect... to your kiddies but deep down you will always know that you're a big fat fake.

Jesus man, I know we don't like most clout boys and girls but haven't you had your fill of working with people who are good test takers but have no fucking common sense?
I am a "test taker" and I've seen my share of guys and gals with a lot of "book learning" and no "street smarts."
I also know that the greatest street warriors aren't always the best supervisors (although it certainly helps to know and understand the job). The craziest part of law enforcement in this country is that the only way we seem to be able to reward someone for a job well done is to remove him/her from that job and promote them to a job in which they may be utterly incompetent!
I'm not saying that all tests are wrong but they are only one tool to evaluate. As things become more complex in law enforcement, we need to get away from "one size fits all" management and hiring.
Trying to teach a good street cop to become a computer geek or accountant and investigate kiddie por or computer or financial crimes is usually a joke. It may be easier to teach the computer geek some law enforcement skills that he or she may never use.
It's also unfair to paint all clout boys and girl with the same brush. Yes, there are boobs and hacks who don't have your back but, frankly, I'd rather see a mediocre street cop being promoted to a records supervisor where he or she may actually do a decent job than to keep them on the road where they can really fuck things up.
And every so often they actually do promote someone who deserves it. I knew a hardworking non-clout guy who never got any thanks from his bosses. One afternoon some breaking shit spills over from the burbs and he not only serves the burbs warrant but goes beyond that to recover a shitload of stolen property from the burbs and cracks a burglary ring with some terrorist links. Burbs chief drops a dime on Shortshanks and voila, promotion.
Yes, that's the exception. But anyone who thinks that a test score is the end all and be all is, well, "very misinformed."
The Mayor is more concerned with his re-election bid since he only has about a 25% approval rating. Any Police or Fire employee who votes for him is insane.
People are always telling me I'm crazy for working so I guess I verify it by voting for the mayor.
Open posting...there was a trial last week in federal court regarding civil rights violations on a 14th District search warrant. The trial was on damages only. Plaintiff was awarded the grand total of one dollar. Her attorney will not now get fees. If he was on a contingency basis he gets forty cents now. Earlier in the week a jury came back with a finding of not liable for the police officers. Just thought you should know that.

To promote only those who do well on the tests is to promote those who are only good test takers and can study. just because you are a good test taker, does not mean you are a good police officer. i once saw a sergeant who was promoted on the first list of promotions for having a top test score. that sergeant showed up at a shooting scene and did not know what was going on. the experienced officers at the scene had to tell the sergeant what to do. guess who got the credit for a job well done? the sergeant who never thanked those officers.

I never made MY OWN SUGGESTION for promotions, demotions with regard to diversity, I stated:

I don't condone any of it and I would never want a promotion based on the color of my skin or my sex. I just got tired of the crying about race over the Lopez demotion and subsequent re-promotion, so I posted the facts surrounding the race and gender breakdown of exempts.
I think that hard work and qualifications should always trump someone's race and sex, however, we all know that doesn't always happen. There are some very qualified male white exempts as well as very qualified minorities.
I don't agree that people should step up their game. I think that they either have a good work ethic and know how to take care of their troops or they don't.
I have also seen a number of intelligent and book smart people get promoted off of the test, but they lack leadership skills and the ability see beyond their own agendas and take care of the blue shirts.
I agree, I would also not like seeing people get promoted just based on who they know, the color of their skin and their sex.
Thank you for your intelligent response rather than responding with an off topic rant like some. I appreciate it. I just posted the facts for all to see, that's all. It doesn't mean that I concur with any of it per the paragraph that followed the stats. Thanks again.

The bottom line is that for every street smart, professional, productive, and overall "nice guy" officer there are ten other officers with equal qualifications that will not be "Politically Anointed" and thus we have dissent ion and low moral. Meritorious selection process is and always will be unfair. Who makes the final decision? Mayor Daley? Jody Weis? An Alderman?
So to the blind, stupid and past and future "politically anointed" dumb asses the only thing that can matter in the promotional process is unfortunately the TEST SCORE, SENORITY, AND AGE.
So anyone that doesn't understand the CPD promotional practice fuckery is, well, a dummy and "Politically Anointed".
All I care about is the TEST SCORE!
