Daley Defends; Quinn Dithers

How's that retirement looking for all our readers? A bit shaky? How about this?
  • Tasers have caused problems, but they do “less harm” than real bullets, Mayor Daley said today, defending the Chicago Police Department’s decision to dramatically expand the use of “stun guns.”

Daley said the decision to more than double the use of Tasers — and place one in every squad car — was designed to minimize injury and reduce liability caused by police shootings.

Taser International’s registered lobbyist is former Chicago Police Supt. Terry Hillard. The company’s $5 million contract runs through 2011.

Nice to see Terry doing so well. Meanwhile, Quinn is proposing cutting pensions and abandoning obligations:
  • Gov. Quinn wants to impose $503 million in cuts, affecting the current state work force and future retirees. The governor wants to save:

    • $203 million by seeking employee furloughs, increasing how much state employees pay toward their health insurance and imposing travel restrictions.

    • $300 million in changes to the pensions offered to state employees, though Quinn's administration declined to offer specific details about how this figure was compiled. Senate President John Cullerton (D-Chicago) expressed support Wednesday for boosting the state's standard retirement age of 60 and capping pension payouts.

  • Facing potential bankruptcy, the board that governs the once flush-with-cash Kansas City school district is taking the unusual and contentious step of shuttering almost half its schools.

Administrators say the closures are necessary to keep the district from plowing through what little is left of the $2 billion it received as part of a groundbreaking desegregation case. The Kansas City school board narrowly approved the plan to close 29 out of 61 schools Wednesday night at a meeting packed with angry parents. The schools will close at the end of the school year.

We're going to say Illinois is a lot closer than people think.

You would think John Cullerton would be a friend of the police. What ever happened to his son crashing the state subsidized Jaguar with State Senate license plates into a garage in Beverly a few years ago? Wasn't he a 501 candidate? What ever happened to that? Oh yeah, 19P.

speaking of pensions.. daley for years looted ours for bad real estate deals for his nephew etc. when the economy was good he spent money on flower pots and olympic dreams instead of putting money in.

now he's crying poor and proposing RAISING THE AGE OF RETIREMENT, MAKING US CONTIBUTE MORE, CAPPING HOW MUCH ONE CAN COLLECT (so dont live too long) AND SCREWING THE FUTURE POLICE WITH NO PENSION AT ALL.

This was obvious to me from the start that it was about law suits not officer safety. When you hear them talk they always catch themselves and metion how "the officers will be safer." They usually say this after they mention that officers have another option over deadly force. The track record of Daley and the alderthieves and now J-fed has always been "who cares about the P.O.'s, they are just a star number that we will put on the wall."

As Han Solo once said "I have a bad feeling about this." I understand that our pension is protected by the state constitution but the city and state both continue to ignore the problems with the pension funds. I just can't help but think that by the time most of us retire there will far from enough cash to pay out what is owed or the pension system is going to be radically altered from what we know it as now. I really hope I'm wrong but I would suggest that everyone begins to take a look at their retirement plans and prepare for the worst. If you're not enrolled already I'd suggest enrolling in the 457B plan that's offered or open a Roth IRA, you really can't save too much for retirement. And if you haven't guessed, as usual the public is not on our side in this issue.

The only one to blame for the mess that the state and city are in is POLITICIANS!!! For starters they are terrible business men. Having a mayor in power for 20 years and counting is a disaster for the city! Daley has spent and wasted billions and he has gone unchecked. Being mayor for as long as he has creates a dictator-like government and it's nothing but BAD! They have squandered and borrowed money from funds and pensions that they should have left alone. They keep feeding the entitlement crowd with freebee's just to get the votes and that is no good for the working man. VOTE THESE CROOKS OUT!

I'm talking about the dead beat crack head drunks that stand around all day on the streets high and drunk. Every 1st of the month they all get govenrment checks and don't use the money to better themselves. NO, they use the money to get fucked up! This is a massive weight on the government! Many don't know about it.

The politicians who got us into these messes are making all kinds of plans to take away pensions and benefits from the average person who earned them and really don't seem to care about the unemployment numbers. It appears they have moved on to planning on using that money to create more beaurocracies. (state) merging juvenile justice administration with the Department of Children and Family Services - watch those contracts and consulting arrangements. (federal)$425 million to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America and the CEO makes nearly a million dollars already. 1,600 employees with the Ray La Hood led Department of Transportation are now making over $170,000 a year - a year and a half ago there was only 1 person with that salary.

And that is only what we know about. Don't you want to guess what the health care beaurocracy will be like?

OT- J.P. Weis is now a listed as a defendant in at least 17 (seventeen) Cook county civil lawsuits.God knows how many federal lawsuits or lawsuits pending. He must be the most sued officer in the history of the Chicago Police Department.
How much is this costing the city of Chicago????

UPDATE: J-Prick is also listed as the Plainiff in ten (10)Cook County Chancery Court cases against his own phony bull shit Police Board when they reinstated officers after he wanted them fired. No wonder you cannot get a fair shake at the police board anymore. Now they just fire you in the face of evidence to the contrary.

The FOP should stop wasting our legal fund because again J-Fool has used his influence and the city's deep pockets to taint the already clout driven discipinary process. BOYCOTT THE POLICE BOARD.
Go straight to Circuit Court when faced with separation for bullshit.

If there was any doubt that he came here to ruin morale and destroy the police department at ANY expense to the taxpayers of Chicago now you can see the facts at the COOK COUNTY Curcuit Court online docket site,

For years he has delayed and even forgone any contributions for planters and street improvements, contracts for insiders and family. This has left the pensions in such dire condition, we NEED to band together and wage a propganda war as a whole young and old alike, differances aside, THIS ALL OF OUR FUTURE AND YOUR RETIREMENT SECURITY AND THE SPIN HE'S GOING TO TELL IS GOING TO MAKE US LOOK LIKE MAJOR THIEFS. That said--The City has to do it's part and actually fund their part (unlike they do now) of the current type pension.

It is a fact of life that pensions like we have are no longer viable.

That said--Daley better not fuck with mine and the one I have paid into for 25 years. I upheld my end of the bargain, they will have to uphold their part.

My deferred took a fucking beat down the last couple of years, I need my Police Pension Fund pension.

The Gold Braid must end, in the old days, an exempt went out at a current Captain's pension, the days of working 3 years as a gold star and boosting your pension by 30-40 grand a year more have to end.

Government is broke and is shrinking.

The best thing that ever happened to the city of Chicago was the housing bust. No more bullshit no-money-down, no-employment-required mortgage loans. And the best thing that ever happened to this miserable state is the recession. Borrowing capped + no money in = less spending.

If you have less than 10 years in (i.e. not vested in the pension), you had better start padding deferred comp because you about to get screwed. More than 10 years and fully vested? You're golden. The Illinois State Constitution and Federal Law guarantee your pension.

Are we ready to do it again? This year, 02 April falls on a Friday.
Plans need to drawn up now for a second celebration. What are we going to do? And the big question everyone should be asking themselves is, has WEISel/Masters done anything in the past year to make you feel any more trust and confidence in them than you did in the previous year?
I think we all know the answer to that one. Maybe Bobby L can be the Honorary 'Grand Marshall' of this

As I look around the station and even when I read this blog I've noticed an alarming trend. Sure our equipment sucks, the bosses are rats, and morale is at an all time low. The filthy stench of clout fills HQ and all the pet units. But these issues arent even the scariest. Its the trend of 3 year, 4 year, and dare I say 5 year wonders! There used to be a time when an officer got that 3 year mark he could leave TRU and hold his head high. Now with the lack of hiring there are few 2 year wonders in the department. This is a precious resource that is drying up before our eyes. We need more hiring to lift the "wonder" burden from the backs of these young officers and let them move on in their careers.

FYI: start heading to the uniform stores R&D is going to approve the use of navy blue academy gym sweat pants for use by all inside personnel. Dugan decided that sitting all day in 80/20's causes unecessary chafing. This alone will reduce medical use by 18% Keep up the good work !

A little off topic but:
Has anyone heard our asshat Mayor talking about the pension funds recently? He said the huge deficits in these underfunded pension funds shouldn't be the taxpayers problem. He says it's time to "think outside the box" regarding the pension problem including ideas such as raising the retirement age from 50 to a higher age or else implementing a two tiered pension system with new hires contributing to a 401k.
Someone needs to ask this idiot how these pensions got into such bad shape. It certainly isn't because the officers haven't been contributing their fair share. After all the proper ammount we contribute is calculated and taken directly out of our checks. Maybe it had something to do with the City not contributing their fair share to the fund. Maybe it has something to do with Ritchie's nephew being allowed to use our pension fund to take money from. In any event it's not our fault it's the City's fault but who do you think will suffer from the City's mismanagement? We will of course.
I've been on over 20 years and have paid plenty into the pension fund over the years. Now this idiot is playing fast and loose with our retirement funds. I'll bet Ritchie and his alderthieves never have to worry about the funding of their pension funds. The public needs to wake up and vote this idiot out of office. He's the one who almost single handedly has run this ship aground yet we're the ones who have to "tighten our belts" and "feel the pain".

Don't fool yourself, your pension is not saved by the state constitution. The state constitution only gives you a contractual right to sue should the pension board default on your payments. It does not mean the state, or city, or county, can't seek bankruptcy protection from all the people it defaults on. Bankruptcy is exclusively federal. The state constitution does not trump it. And nothing prevents a municipality from going to bankruptcy court to pay it's creditors (ie, you the pensioner) X cents on the dollar.

Totally way off topic....but why the hell hasn't the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inducted maybe the greatest band in the world, RUSH! Probably one of the most talented three musicians ever in music! After more than 30 years together and still writing and playing great music. Keep in mind there is only 3 members of the band that put together that great sound. In concert the three of them sound incredible! Each of these guys are at the top of their profession! There are so many silly bands in the RR Hall how could they be passed up? Excuse me now, I'm going to listen to the live version of "The Trees" then maybe Circumstances. Any RUSH fans out there? Schmitty?

Because of Getty Lee, the ugliest old-fuck musician in rock, shit bassist, with the worst singing voice EVER, you fuckin Dope...

Here's the thing:

1. It's the fucking politicians. Everyone participating in both the Republican and Democratic political parties are either the manipulators or the fools being manipulated.

And that's a fact, jack.

2. The commonly held belief is that political parties exist so that citizens of like mind can band together and, as a larger force, influence the policies and actions of our governments, both local, statewide and national, in the creation of our governments' policies and laws, the application and interpretation of said policies and laws, the financing, via taxations, of those policies and laws, and the adjudications of any and all disputes that may occur within the day to day experiences of us citizens living our lives and being affected by said policies and laws.

This belief is not shared by the politicians, or their co-conspirators, of either dominant political party.

Instead, both the Republican and Democratic party politicians consider the above belief to be one of several tools which they find very useful in executing their true agendas, namely, increasing, by whatever means necessary or available, their own wealth, and the power which said wealth provides.

For the politicians, and their co-conspirators, there is no such thing as accepting an honest day's wage for an honest day's work. To them, those who believe in this way of living their lives are both fools and fodder.

3. This, above all other reasons, is why professional politicians, and the political parties which they use so effectively to manipulate the public, both those who still vote, and those who've given up on voting, are exactly the wrong people to vote for, exactly the wrong people to believe in, exactly the wrong people to possess the powers of elected office and exactly the wrong people to allow ourselves to be persuaded to follow.

Our founding fathers knew the nature of this beast all too well.

If we all fail to study, anew, their wisdom, their foresight and heroic attempt to create a framework as resistant to the activities of that beast as could be conceived, and to act as our forefathers had hopes we would, we will become, once again, the effective slaves of those whose loyalty is to the nature of that beast.

I spent 24 years doing dog-ass work, putting up with tons of bullshit, and CR's and lawsuits because I was a good copper? WTF? Now, now, after all these years they want to take away what they promised me?

THEY PULLED OUT AN INTER DEPARTMENT MEMO THAT MOYER PUT OUT INSTRUCTING THEM ON HOW AND WHAT TO DO. I HAVE AN EMAIL YOU CAN CONTACT ME AT THETRUTH12350@yahoo.com I can give you more updates.

First I would like to know who is they and then which court branch you went to because that slip was improperly entered. The rule is if you have court 2 hours BEFORE your start your tour it is an extension of tour. You should bring this to a supervisors attention.

Yeah, you're way off topic, but absolutely correct. They're the best - have been since the day they started. To see them play live is simply awesome, and there is no drummer out there better than Neil Peart. They should have been inducted a long time ago, but they probably don't care. I doubt they were ever concerned with being recognized, just with being great musicians. 2112...the best.

"Someone needs to ask this idiot how these pensions got into such bad shape. It certainly isn't because the officers haven't been contributing their fair share. After all the proper ammount we contribute is calculated and taken directly out of our checks. Maybe it had something to do with the City not contributing their fair share to the fund."

Well I for one would organize a group/groups to make sure that politicians would be included in this pension/insurance cut... starting with Daley and going straight up to the president. I would devote the rest of my life to it.

3/12/2010 07:15:00 AM

Go ahead and start it. I'll join you. The facts are that aldermen and state politicians can work a few years in a position and be entitled to years of pension at top dollar. Now that all the money has been MISMANAGED and pissed away they want to make you and me pay for it. Well if they want to reform pension, then make sure to add that you have to be in a position for 20+ years to get a pension.

I bet if they put that regulation in place these politicians would magically find money to keep their cash cow retirements viable. Its sickening.

Rush was given the Order of Canada because of their contributions to Canadian life and music. They were the first Rock N Roll band out of Canada to make it big in the US market. They do want to get inducted in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. They have been overlooked and it's mystifying.
I've been going to thier concerts faithfully for 30 years and they are always an awesome experience.

3/12/2010 06:15:00 PM

You are wrong.

The fact that the Illinois State Constitution protects your contractual rights means that the State of Illinois cannot pass a law reducing promised pension payments when the employee is already vested. Future employees and non-vested employees are another story.

On top of this, Federal ERISA law protects all employee pensions, 401K, and other employee benefits (health, vacation, etc...). This prevents both private and public employers from denying benefits accrued by an employee. There are additional federal laws protecting public employee pensions.

Private employees can get screwed if a private company declares bankrupcy. BUT, a state CANNOT declare bankrupcy. The US Constitution holds the federal government responsible for all state debts.

But, on your way down, try to think about your ancestors who crossed oceans, mountians, forests, deserts, and valleys to seek out a better life for themselves, burying their children and other loved ones along the way, while still perservering.

And right before you splat all over the ground, think of what a disappointment you must be to them.
