Coles' Contest

The Tribune had a nice article on 10 March about the Densey and Mary Cole effort to win Crate and Barrel's Ultimate Wedding Contest:
  • A year ago, Densey and Mary Cole were in the thick of planning their wedding and honeymoon. But fate harshly intervened last summer when Densey Cole, a Chicago police officer, was paralyzed in a three-vehicle accident while responding to a burglary call.

The couple married in a sweet but short ceremony at his bedside, not long after he awoke from a four-week coma. Months of painful, painstaking physical therapy have followed, and Cole is slowly recovering.

As of tonight, the Coles lead by 8,000 votes. March isn't even halfway over, so there's still plenty of time for you to vote if you haven't or to spread the word via letters, e-mails, social networking, etc.

Keep up the great work.

I tried voting and the system asked me to register which I did. Well I was supposed to receive an e-mail to confirm my registration but never did. I tried using a different e-mail and that didn't work either. Anyone else have this problem? Am I doing something wrong?

A thanks to John Kass. The E-Mail sent to him Was followed up on for this. Everybody should send him an E-mail thanking him for pushing this through. He called and asked me about the whole story 15 minutes after I e-mailed him about a week and a half ago. He said he'd see about pushing it through. Apparently he did. He is our friend.

Another idea would be to get them a spot on Extreme Makeovers. I'm sure his hous eis going to need tons of upgrades for his condition.

I had the same problem. Just go back in and vote with the email address you used. I did that and it let me vote even though I never received the confirmation email.

I'm having the same problem with voting, too. (anonymous comment from 1:36 am)

Also, if you read the rules of the contest, the highest vote getter does NOT win the contest. The top 50 highest vote getters will be the finalists from whom the designer and other judges will determine the grand prize winner of the $100k wedding as well as the other top prizes. The highest vote getter automatically wins a $500 C&B gift card. Hopefully the sheer number of votes that the Coles get (and there inspirational and deserving story) will be enough to sway the opinion of the judges.

All of us are voting & hoping for a win! Most important though we are hoping that people on the job who are on this site could lead him in the right direction when it comes to getting all the care he is entitled to by the city as well as all medical bills paid. THERE SHOULD NOT BE ANY MEDICAL EXPENSES TO PAID OUT OF HIS POCKET. That is a fact. FOP should be all over this. I am only a citizen of Chgo. but I did a little research on this. So I ask you, his brothers & sisters in blue to help him with this information or maybe the media could shed some light on this as well. Better to help than need help. Thanks for all you do & God bless Officer Cole always.

Same exact thing happened to me. I sent an email to complain about this (link was found at bottom of entry page) and got a reply that told me to try again. The second time it worked, even without getting the confirmation email.

Look in your spam or junk email box if the return email never gets to your actual INBOX.

Those that are not getting the email verification......... CHECK YOUR SPAM FOLDER...... It is going in there I am sure as mine did........

Secondly Howard Stern did a 3 minute story about Densey's TRAGEDY last week, we are working on an interview to get both Mary and Densey on Howard Stern next week I think......... Love him or hate him........ Howard is a HUGE POLICE FAN...... This is a feel good story for him and he adores the Police and what we do.......

Thirdly,,,,,,,, yes we need to get more help to Mary and Densey....... Mary was very very sick this week....... I think the thin blue line has let her down..... Where is the FOP when we need them most........ Some please get on this and help them, they can surely use it.......

Lastly, if they get the House Show on cable TV, they have to pay taxes etc....... Alot of people on that show have lost their homes because of the houses being upgraded, their taxes went through the roof, etc........... That is a fabulous idea, but in the end the owners pay the HIDDEN TAXES AND FEE'S.......

Peace to you all.........VOTE FOR MAY AND DENSEY

SEND THEM A GIFT, there is alot on her wedding register that is inexpensive!!!!!!!! They deserve it!

Heres a great idea for Officer Cole. Raffle his house, say 5,000 tickets at $100 each. Those would easily sell between the amount of police, fire & city workers. Use that money to pay off mortgage & any prior bills. Then a completly new home could be built to meet his needs instead of pouring money into a home that he would have to still worry about paying a huge monthly note. I was a neighbor of his & this guy was constantly working on that house. Its time somebody takes care of him & his needs. Somebody who talks to him, pass my idea on to him. A bunch of my neighbors all thought it would be great. God bless you neighbor, you are one hell of a man.

There is a long story behind this that I refuse to air on this blog but there have been hundreds of people offering help. It just wasn't welcomed.
