What Have We Been Saying?

Something along the lines of "enforce the laws already on the books," if we remember correctly.

And our readers have been repeating, "stop giving out probation for gun crimes."

Now this comes out of Springfield and guess who's taking credit?
  • Mayor Daley’s gun control proposals are frequently shot down by the General Assembly, but he won a rare victory today.

The Illinois Senate unanimously agreed to make unlawful use of a weapon a non-probationable offense — punishable by one to three years in prison — whenever the offender carries a loaded weapon and has no valid Firearms Owners Identification (FOID) card.

The House also approved the bill unanimously. It now awaits Gov. Quinn’s signature.

Gee, imagine that. It only took an act of Illinois Congress to actually put people in jail for violating the law!

So it'll go back to the days where the majority of the idiots carrying pistols will be the "shorties". Over the years I've watched the law go from Misdemeanor for UUW unless the arrestee has a prior UUW conviction, to just convicted felons catching Felony UUW to UUWs being automatic felonies, and now this current nonsense.

Just more smoke & mirrors to temporarily pacify the squeaky wheels.

I'll believe it when I see it.

Yeah.. Looks like he's getting ready for another run. He's promoting lots of vote getting issues lately i.e. pension reform, law enforcement and gun control. I even think he might be dyeing his hair. (What's left of it.)
The only question remaining is "Who will run against him and free us from this tyranny?"

just a note SCC, i have noticed that certain charges especially mfg/del narcotic charges (the class 1 and 2 kind) have disappeared from the automated arrest report. Just thinking outside the box...maybe the city took them out so that more arrests would become simple possession arrests or class 4's (less jail time and less time in court).

Still won't happen. The ASA's and courts make their own set of rules. They will just change the crime or make it a misd. It's happened before. Anything is possible in shitcago crook county. It's the land where crime pays and the victim's get screwed.

They'll plead it down to something other than UUW,,,,,like they always do.

DUI is mandatory jail, so they plea out to Reckless, Fail to obey traffic code, etc.

No big deal.

I'm...not impressed. If this were for crimes committed using a gun, yeah, maybe, although as others have noted, that charge would just get pled away.

But to impose heavy penalties for simply being in possession of a tool guaranteed by the Constitution...no. Otherwise law abiding citizens arrested on that charge will have nothing else to plead.

I am a law abiding citizen who has not had so much as a speeding ticket in 16 years. I possess a valid FOID card, I have NRA training, and I carry within the city limits every day.

Honest citizens should not fear the honest cop, as honest cops should not fear the honest citizen. Our founding fathers affirmed our right to self defense, and that means possessing a weapon with the same capability as someone who is out to do us harm may possess.

These unjust Illinois gun laws pit the police against We The People and do nothing to stop crime. We urge you take a stand against these unconstitutional state laws by not enforcing them against law abiding citizens. It is time to take back our rights from the tyrants like Daley, Quinn, and the Madigans.

Ignore unjust gun laws.

This is a GOOD law.

The punishment should be higher and zero tolerance.

The only problem is...

Who is going to enforce it mayor, Gov, God almighty???

HIRE POLICE !
They do the work.

Don't bulls*it the people with new laws.
What good is a law when no one looks to enforce it?

Hire.

It's the mayor's responsibility to create a safe heaven in his city.
For families of all neighborhoods.

We have the laws, we need police!

HIRE !

We can put the blame directly on the states attorney's office, as Anita tries to play catch up with the backlog she's instructed her minion hack deputies in Felony Review to "reject at all cost" cases such as aggravated batteries- especially to the Police. its particularly disturbing when when the ASA's shit can cases of UUW by a felon and even more disgusting when detectives can't get Charges approved for murder when there's a confession or when there are actual witnesses.

These animals know how goofy the system is right now with cowards in States Attorney's office. they're the same repeat offenders that keep shooting and killing on our streets.

Stop with the bullshit Anita lets Try these cases in the courts, that's how the system is supposed to work, not on the phone with an ASA that doesn't care and wants to get home to sleep.

And yes people, it still goes on here in cook county

This means nothing. The ASA's will just plead it down to some lesser offense that can get probation. But if your a cop and some duechebag accuses you of wrongdoing, Anita and her cronies will hang you out to dry. Screw her and Crook County.

OT ~ From the Wall Street Journal
"The Daley Show Still Tops in Chicago"

APRIL 28, 2010

By DOUGLAS BELKIN

CHICAGO—Mayor Richard M. Daley has had a bumpy ride of late: budget cuts, corruption scandals and a bid for the 2016 Olympics that flopped on the world stage. Last fall, his approval rating fell to 35%, lowest in his 21 years in office.

So could someone else be elected Chicago mayor next year? Sure—if Mr. Daley decides not to run.

"The job is his to lose," said Paul Green, a political scientist at Roosevelt University in Chicago and a longtime observer of city politics. "The only people who want to run against him are the ones who want to commit political suicide."

While this is a step in the right direction, it would seem that a young offender(18-22) with a mostly non-violent history, will definitely run and possibly even shoot at the police given the fact that getting caught will most likely land them in the slam for a while.

Outsource violent prisoners to Sheriff Joe in Arizona. Let em live in tents wearing pink. They would make a profit, and we would save money over a new brick and mortar building.

I wonder at what point mere possession of of carrying of a weapon became "use of a weapon."

If you have a pencil in your pocket, are you "using" the pencil?

I don't suppose we want to go farther and differentiate not writing at all from writing a grocery list from writing threatening letters to the President. Got a pencil, go to jail. There.

Ah, the majesty of the law.

OT: In February 2010 Detention Aide Lynette Hardin was the victim of gang violence when she lost an eye from gunfire.

Lynette is a 28-year veteran of the Chicago Police Department and currently assigned to the Juvenile Intervention and Support Center (JISC-Unit 384).

Does anyone know where we can contribute to help defray the costs of her injury?

OLD OLD TIMER SAYS----Back in the late 70's up to mid 80's, it was nothing to average 1 to 3 UUW arrests a week on the West Side. That was with not really trying and my partner and I weren't even on tact! Anybody remember GUN Court at 1121 S. State? The gun call was between whore call and bum call. Well the point is 99% of all gun cases ended up with C&D, confiscate and destroy the weapon and the defendant walked scott free. Maybe he lost his bond(rarely) or maybe he was CBR Atorney. NOBODY went to jail. Now who set the tone in the 80's for this nonsense????? Yes you are correct...Richard Daley, "The States Attorney of COOK County". So boys and girls maybe the press would look into this, gather some stats ask why the change in heart........NAH nevermind!
