Daley Says "Be Quiet" About Burge

Check out this spirited and passionate defense of Jon Burge on the FOP website. It stirs the blood and should be an inspiration to all who read it:
  • The jury has reached their verdict and hopefully this brings closure to this long-standing dispute.

The Lodge will have no further comment.

    # # END # #
Wow. Nothing at all? Shortshanks got your tongue? Not even a mention of appeals or expression of support? It's not like there's a contract under negotiation or anything. Or would a comment of the wrong sort jeopardize future employment in the Daley-controlled Illinois Combine?

"Daley Says "Be Quiet" About Burge"...

Because Daley wants no intrepid reporter (if one even exists in this town) or anyone involved with Burge's appeals process to bring to light the fact that he was State's Attorney during the time of many of these allegations.

Time - Distance - Shielding: Shortshanks seems to know full-well that it's not just for Law Enforcement personnel.

I knew Mark D back in the day, He was an FTO you know, Very good man. His distancing from the Burge thing might be an attempt to just "end it" once and for all. $50 Million in lawsuit payouts for the city is allot.
We as humans have very short memories collectively. When all the horrible things were happening in Chicago Burge was their and he addressed the evils that had been committed in our fair City. The way he addressed the evil is the subject of how the process works. Torture can never be justified in a civil society. I just ask that we don’t judge yesteryear's events with today’s interpretations of morality and apply it to an INDIVIDUAL today. Many institutions could not survive that test let alone individual people. Burge has a soul and the man who is retired and ill who wanted justice for his brethren is left in the ice cold, Like he’s on the far side of the Moon. HE ACTED ON WHAT MANY PEOPLE WANTED BUT COULDN’T DO.

A good number of police officers, FOP members, are angry and are dead set opposed to using FOP dues money to fund the Burge defense.

Some threatened suit but I didn't hear of any suit filed. FOP has many members in Chicago, not all were in agreement on spending that money on that trial.

The Board of directors voted on funding that defense. At the General Meetings a number of officers voiced an opposing opinion.

The comments yesterday under "Burge Guilty" pointed out Daley ignored the complaints in 1982. ordered Burge investigated and fired in 1992 and then when Flint Taylor received permission from a Federal judge to depose him in 2007 ordered the City to give up 20 million dollars.

I guess he is covering up something!

I heard Flint Taylor announced today he will be filing a lawsuit on behalf of a Ronald Kitchens against Richard Daley, Leroy Martin and Jon Burge and many others.

This is the same Ronald Kitchens that Bernadette Dohrn was hugging while Bill Ayers looked on Monday and the their photo appeared in the newspapers and on-line.

I have no doubt that Daley will order this and any other lawsuit filed to be settled so he does not have to answer any questions.

What is he hiding?

Never vote for a soon to be retired individual for the F.O.P. board. We have seen what we get when we do.

They look out for their retirement gig instead of the membership.

If they have more than 25 years on the job and are running for the F.O.P. board, simply don't vote for them.

You know that they have no motive to say anything to rock the boat because they are looking for a retirement gig when they leave and will sell you out in a heartbeat.

Look at how many of our former boards have retired from the FOP spot instead of returning to their unit of assignment.

Seeing the FBI and the Justice Department can investigate Jon Burge 20 years after the last complaint registered against him I have a recommendation for these Federal agencies.

It is time to reinvestigate the homicide of the San Francisco police officer who was murdered when a bomb exploded outside his police station. There are no statutes of limitation for arson and murder and the prime suspect of this crime resides in the Hyde Park community and her name is Bernadette Dohrn and her co-conspirator could be her husband, Bill Ayers!

How did Daley stay out of this hearing? I know every statement to an ASA preambles with:

(something almost verbatim to)
" are you giving this statement of your own free will...factual and true....not under threat....coersion etc."

Not one "alterboy" poor tortured soul related that he had near death experiences ot ANY ASA?
This is not possible given the numbers of rats coming out of the woodwork now.

And how did ex Mayor Byrne escape this hearing? Perticularily during the Wilson brother episode.Didn't she relate in the press that she would support all efforts, along with the States attorney's office, to bring these killers to justice?

Shouldn't a States Attorney
who, knowingly and without regard for the law, takes a fraudulent or

In this case knowledge and intent must carry weight. How can they avoid any prosecution or blame?

Dohrn and Ayers are to smart for that pimp Fitzgerald and the incompetent FBI. For 25 yrs the FBI could not find them (because no one dimed them out)That's the only way the FBI can make an arrest that's if they can buy someone to rat you out or get your friends "Miced" up. Well Fitz there they are right in the lobby of the fed building, don't tell the "feds"

Maybe Fitzgerald should investigate how two nationally known terrorists after being wanted by the FBI for 25yrs land jobs at a public university and state supported private university. Maybe because of Ayers father or maybe that they are FBI snitches themselves. Like all the other FBI rats, they do the dirt then say and testify that their "friends" did it. Ha, Ha, Ha

It seems that Burge was doomed. He knew he would eventually have to answer for what was alleged to have happened. There were people that just would not let that go. I was friends with both Fahey and O'Brien and was working the day they were killed-murdered by dogs that should not have been walking the streets with other law-abiding citizens. It was a sad day and the person(s) responsible for the crime were taken into custody and eventually confessed to their crimes. Did Burge have a hand in that confession? I hope so.

Once a long time ago I had the pleasure of having a ride along, a cop from Russia. We went to a home looking for a subject wanted on an outstanding warrant. The grandma said he was not there, never stays there and a crock of other crap. When we returned to the car, the Russian ride along said that he believes the grandma was lying. We agreed but what can you do... he said, in Russia, torture is quickest way to truth.

And as far as FOP paying the trial bill..... I don't know for sure if that has happened but if not it should be. He was employed by the City and any CR is defended by FOP. Maybe back then there was no FOP, I don't know, can't remember. But if he was a member then he should be defended by them AND have FOP representation by FOP for appeals.

It just reminds me of the saying by Jack Nicholson during the movie, "A Few Good Men," when he said....

"I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it."

Jack Nicholson, "A Few Good Men."

So good luck to you Burge and good luck to your health problems.

If Shorty is sued, or somehow (we can only pray indicted) from this because he was elected States Attorney (laughable then as it is now) the who will pay for his defense? Who will pay for the claims for damages. Perhaps they will be quietly paid out of a city TIF Account, stashed away where the citizens don't know about it.

In our society today it just seems so easy to make the hard working police officer the fall guy. No police officer goes to work with the idea of committing some type of crime on that given day, but due to the JOB he makes life altering decisions in the matter of seconds. While attorneys and aldermen send month and years to decide how to screw society and rarely are held accountable. GOD BLESS POLICE OFFICERS THEY NEED IT IN THIS CITY.

Yes, the FOP paid for the Jon Burg defense. The board of directors voted for it and it was done.

The thing Burge was indicted for happened years after he retired, perjury, years after the fact and well into retirement.

He was never indicted for any of the on duty stuff, just for lying about it in a court years later.

FOP paid a portion of Burges legal bills via our Legal Defense Fund. Go to a meeting ask to see the books to see what was or will be paid.

I believe that FOP's brief response was a way to say that the case is done and there in no more money coming from FOP.

Sometimes, and I mean sometimes, one has to do what one may or may not totally agree with in life...pull the plug on a loved one, divorce ect. Everyday, life in Chicago is really shoot don't shoot, only many variables are involved. Have you ever had to make the choice? I doubt it, and let me tell you I have.

In the history of the CPD many have had to pay the ultimate price with no recourse. What the men and women in the D-ranks and elsewhere did in their careers back then was exactly what was taught, tolerated and proper. Don't attempt to think you know it all because you weren't there. The financial and political climate has changed and that's the real crime here.

I'm guessing you are a slick sleeve so I'll just skip the real name calling. Men like Burge were the glue keeping the City together in rougher times than you'll ever know.....because of men like Burge. Once we are safe, we forget about why they did what they did and condemn them for doing it, now that we' sleep soundly in our beds'. If you buy all these made up torture allegations, ask yourself, Russian roulette all those years and no accidental discharges? No in custody deaths?

The lawyers wanted you to believe that these were Neanderthal cops, but they never accidentally killed someone they were torturing? Really? Were these cop killers treated with kid gloves? Probably not. Torture, real torture? Lawyer theatre and nothing more.

The Officers paying punitive damages are doing so because the Media has poisoned the Public against us. That part is real and you have to ask yourself why this happened. It always revolves around money. Everything that happens does. So who benefits from this hatred of the Police Department? My guess is the lawyers do. So Mr & Mrs John Q> Public, how does it feel to be manipulated? Are YOU safer? Who do you fear more, the Police, or the criminal? It is your money that they are giving the criminals and their ilk in the law profession.

If you want to hate someone, start with the criminals and their defenders in the suits.
