I've Been Shot - Hurry Up!

This is the first time we've seen this appear in the papers:
  • A man whose car was stolen allegedly admitted to police officers he made a false call to 911 claiming he had been shot so officers would get their “asses” to the scene faster.

“ 'I’m the one who called,' ” Joshua Coleman told police when they spotted him at Englewood and Normal Tuesday afternoon, according to a police report. “ 'I said I got shot to get your asses here quicker. Are you gonna do anything about my car?' ”

Coleman, 21, an admitted gang member, first called emergency dispatchers to report that his car was stolen, Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Erin Antonietti said.

When police didn't arrive immediately, he “was not pleased” and proceeded to place another 911 call, this time telling dispatchers he was shot in the leg in the 400 block of West Englewood, authorities said.

This is a constant state of being on the south and west sides. Everyone claims someone had a gun, flashed a gun, fired a gun, shot at someone, all to get police to respond faster. There are probably a hundred or more intersections coppers could rattle off that always seem to be full of invisible guns that are only visible to persons who can't even tie their shoes without police assistance.

We'd like to see calls like these result in more arrests, but we don't think the courts will treat it seriously.

This is a daily occurance in most districts yet there aren't any arrests or ANOV's. That is why it continues. Congrats to the P.O. who arrested this fool. I know you were probably told by some fool that it was pimpy or bullshit but they were wrong. That is your job. Thank you for the cb number maybe your arrest will eliminate at least one prank 911 caller.

THAT particular block is famous for "man with a gun" and "person shot" calls, which are usually bonifide. I think thats where me and my old partner Joe M peed our pants on the train tracks....

So now response to a call has to be context and location sensitive, man shot in 018 or 019, hurry and go; man shot in 007 or 015, big fucking deal, we get there when we get there. Typical bullshit.

They will then have to elevate the seriousness to get faster police response: "10 shot in the head, they all dead, men with machine guns killing babies" if your car is being stolen by the repo man.

Once upon a time in some districts coppers would get something like "get your pencils out" right out of roll call and then get 5 jobs at once including someone shot, handle in any order, and the man shot would be bonifide.

They had a name for this current wave of violence around 1974: normal night in 014 or 013 or 015.

The mayor would be shitting bowling balls if he had 900 murders to deal with.

I'm surprised the felony false police report wasn't tossed immediately when it got to court. And the judge refusing to release him on bond?

Wow!

How ironic would it be if he spent more time in jail for a felony DC than the PCS charge for which he got 18 months probation! Only in Cook County, the worst and most corrupt criminal court system of the U. S.!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"Takes me to da hopspital! Takes me to da hopspital! Rush Prebsbaterian Saint Lucas!" Guy gets out at the "hopspital" and thanks the Paramedics for the ride.

False 911 calls for all kinds of "service" are as common as invisible guns.

I wonder if the judge that will hear the case realizes that these calls are illegal and they do jeopardize the citizens safety and ours?

I tickles me, they claim they get no police service and 015 is about the size of a postage stamp and is a police district with a full complement of police. Hell, 017 and 016 have beats that are the size of 015.

Once again, a waste of government services by people who have never worked a day in their pathetic little lives, but have made an occupation out of pimping the system.

---not a cop

So typical and grossly common. Had one once from an old lady who used the gun call to get us to show up faster so we could help get her granddaughter to go to church. Nice.

The funny thing is they ARE capable of learning; learning how to play the system.

Old Retired Guy Here. False Police Report. State Disorderly Conduct.
I have done it both ways. It worked way back then and I hope it will work now. If appropriate.

PS: Have a nice day ????

What is unfortunate is that this is unusual. EVERY mutt that makes this call should be locked up. I recall a principal that stole a bunch of money from the taxpayers after she did the exact same thing at her school. As usual is was racial and the taxpayers paid.

In the suburbs, if we're looking for fast police response, we usually go with a barking dog complaint or illegal parking.

With the exception of those burbs with a harder edge, then we dial it up a notch and report kids making all kinds of racket or that incessant Bay City Rollers music coming from the neighbor with the 70s nostalgia kick.
