You cannot handcuff the police and tell them to take back the streets. Yes we must operate within the law and general orders but we shouldn't be sandbagged when shit happens. We have all heard the terms "Make it home alive" or "You have to do what you have to do to make it home safe" and of course the obligatory "Be safe". Well, these days those terms mean "Cover your ass" or J-fled will put you in the penn. We are police officers but that doesn't mean we're stupid nor are we expendable and we would like to make it to retirement some day, not spend time in prison for "Taking the gloves off" or being "The real police". Yes we will "Do what we have to do" but we know that means there will be no back up from the brass or the city and that term really means "Cover your ass". What the hell do you guys really expect us to do?

I am so glad I am retired from the job ( 10 years now), but I am also so sad at what has become of the department. It was always politically corrupt, hiring and promotions were routinely sold. Even saw my share of piss poor leaders. But, I think things have sunk to a new low and the department is ready to revolt and just sit down and i would not blame them one bit. I never would have backed any sort of job action and would call those who propose this cowards. But, I really can't think of anything that will bring the department back in the near future from this shithol they have fallen into. The crisis of confidence is resulting in officers very afraid to take any aggressive actions in any manner for fear of losing their jobs or prison or a punitive lawsuit, and frankly, if I was still working I would be doing the least I could get by with in order to protect my financial future and my family. Daley and the reverends and the do gooders are getting what they deserve, a wholly ineffective department led by a patronage command staff with the poor performers protected by the union. What a shame, how sad.

The city would save millions because 80% of the investigations are redundant.If every district or AREA had a use of force committe or some type of regulatory body nobody would ever miss IPRA. Like every other job the scales of discipline should be fair and progressive. IPRA goes for separation every chance they get and the gangbangers know it and 90%of the complaints have no basis in fact.Jody the jag signs off on it because he came here to lay off and decrease the numbers of police officers any way he can. Jody gone and replaced with a real leader and the disbanding of IPRA and the police board and you have saved millions of dollars in a down economy ,boosted the morale of officers, boosted the morale of the citizens because they would see crime plummet and there it is.
