Uncontrolled Media

There is no doubt in our minds that media in general has a liberal slant to it. It's pretty much an established fact. There is also little doubt in our minds that Shortshanks has the editors and program directors of Chicago media on speed dial and can direct certain stories (and certain uncomfortable questions) to be buried, shunted aside or ignored.

But what happens when an outside media source is an eyewitness to a story that Shanks desperately doesn't want reaching the masses?
  • Last week Friday, I actually witnessed this when I came down to the John Hancock Center to watch the Blue Angels practice in the late afternoon for the weekend's Air Show and then to a dinner cruise on one of the big boats at Navy Pier.

Coming back to the John Hancock to pick up my car at around 9PM, I noticed several little bands of four to five juveniles walking around sizing up people as they walked down the streets. Luckily we were already in our car, but I could sense that these “gangsta wannabes” were up to no good.

There were some arrests made that night but very suspicious that there was no mention in the mainstream media. There have been incidences like this before but never a mention or a caution. Why? Afraid to report on the truth or were you told not to report on the truth? In either case...

    WHERE IS THE MAINSTREAM MEDIA?

Chicago's media leaves something to be desired when it comes to shining the spotlight on issues like this. It is like Amity Island, the town in the movie Jaws not wanting to reveal that they had a killer shark off the beach because it might kill the season's tourism and town revenues.

Well, the shark-infested area in Chicago is not its Lake Michigan beaches, but the shopping area on and around North Michigan Avenue. Land sharks!

One of my readers, who reads drafts of my columns had this to say:

Succinctly spoken , The city is no longer safe anymore. I think Richard (Mayor Daley) should go out in the evening without his hit squad protecting him with the firearms he professes to hate so much.

That would be six more highly-paid police officers who could patrol the downtown streets that you and I walk down - unarmed.

With its highest big-city sales tax and $30- $50 parking out-of-sight, Chicago better quickly see the light. Watch out for these little predators if you even dare to go down at night. That's when they get into a frenzy to feed, rob and fight.
Blogger James Carlini wrote an essay following Officer Soderberg's death about how needless death was becoming far too common in Chicago. He was visiting for the Air & Water Show and witnessed what we've been writing about for a while now. Shortshanks can't pull the plug on Carlini's observations which are getting wider coverage than we could possibly get with our "insignificant" offerings here. Hopefully, the Age of Daley is coming to an untidy end.

How about two robberies on the lakefront at 43rd in which one gunman asked the group "who hasn't been shot yet?" and shot the guy in the leg. This is the lake front that has round the clock work going on to install slips for the boaters in the city and is well lit AND THE PEOPLE USING THE PARK AND BIKE PATHS HAVE NOT HAD LIGHTS IN TWO MONTHS. EVERYONE CALL AND NOTIFIED AND THEY STILL DON'T WORK!

God bless James Carlini.

While the Wisconsin capital may not be as notoriously bleeding heart, flaming, knee-jerk liberal as the People's Republics of Cambridge and Berkeley, how refreshing to have Mr. Carlini's pithy unbiased commentary from that Midwestern bastion of liberalism: Madison.

He gives me yet another reason to love Mad City. Ever since college days, the memories of so many great party times on the campus of the University of Wisconsin.

We still make an annual pilgrimage to Camp Randall stadium and their State Street people watchers' freak show afterwards. This autumn, I'm gonna watch the Badgers clobber coach Jim Tressel's Ohio State Buckeyes.

And those great T-shirts with Bucky Badger giving Brutus Buckeye the one-finger salute are still around.
"FUCK 'EM BUCKY!"

Brew and brats on me, Jim Carlini.

Aside from the Reader, the Chicago News Cooperative and John Kass, this political Sodom and Gomorrah on the Lake could use the journalistic candor and cojones of Mr. Carlini.

I'd put more credibility into the old Soviet Pravda before local Chicago media.

Back when I was a kid, gramps, a retired railroad man, lived at 47th and Racine and at least once a week rode his old heavy bicycle right down 47th to the lake and spent the morning fishing. He rode home the same way. And you know, not one person ever gave him any trouble or, for that matter, even dared raise their eyes toward him.

Somehow we lost it . . .

The skit showed the Land Shark attacking several people by knocking on their doors and pretending to be repairmen, door-to-door salesmen, and the like. Once the victim opens the door, the Land Shark quickly enters and bites or swallows the human victim. The skit is typified by the following exchange:[1]

[Scene: A New York apartment. Someone knocks on the door.]
Woman: [not opening the door] Yes?
Voice: (mumbling) Mrs. Arlsburgerhhh?
Woman: What?
Voice: (mumbling) Mrs. Johannesburrrr?
Woman: Who is it?
Voice: [pause] Flowers.
Woman: Flowers for whom?
Voice: [long pause] Plumber, ma'am.
Woman: I don't need a plumber. You're that clever shark, aren't you?
Voice: [pause] Candygram.
Woman: Candygram, my foot. You get out of here before I call the police. You're the shark, and you know it.
Voice: Wait. I-I'm only a dolphin, ma'am.
Woman: A dolphin? Well...okay. [opens door]
[Huge latex and foam-rubber shark head lunges through open door, chomps down on woman's head, and drags her out of the apartment, all while the Jaws attack music is playing.]

The "Land Shark attack" scenes are intermixed with other scenes directly spoofing Jaws, featuring Dan Aykroyd as Chief Brody and John Belushi playing Matt Hooper.

------------------------------------------------------------------

"No police at all on such a busy street, the 15 ppo's don't really count, they have no idea what to do?"

No kidding. You must have been a rocket scientist in a previous lifetime.

Why do you think the 15 ppo's were there? Because THERE IS NO POLICE. The 018 District is all one-man cars, and they're tied up on jobs, and usually there are no cars available. The Michigan Avenue detail is down to just a couple of guys. That is why they put the PPO's out there to make it LOOK like there is police out there.

The real problem is that Shortshanks & Co. have let the manpower in the City drop to dangerous levels - and it's only going to get worse.

Put the blame where it belongs, and not on those working and trying to do something about the problem.

No - you "Sat there and watched."

Nice - real nice....

first, the article says:

"An off-duty Chicago police office shot an intruder trying to break into his South Side home this morning, officials said."

then, in the body of the article, it says:

"Chicago Fire Department paramedics transported the alleged intruder in critical condition to Advocate Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn at about 10 a.m., said fire spokesman Quention Curtis."

so, why the use of the words '...alleged intruder...' after the previous use of the words '...shot an intruder trying to break into...'?

a subtle attempt to compare the official statement with the media's standard pov?

To the public, you have what you want now: a PD totally overwhelmed by political asshats in key positions who know nothing about what we do to maintain order, many with little or no Police training, in some cases even fabricated 'sworn credentials.' We understand that you, the public, put little faith in us regarding the safety of your homes and neighborhoods. You can't just post a list of FOX News contributors and claim that those 6 newspapers and 41 personalities represent a significant conservative voice.

The Tribune hasn't been a conservative voice for a years now and we can't even find another one of those you list. At least 4 of the names you listed are actually dead and another two are actually left wing advocates that FOX has on as counterpoints to their own conservative leanings.

If we felt like it, we could do your list four times over with main stream media types of a leftist bent and they'd all be alive and well.

Stop reading socialist/government-run newspapers like the Tribune, Sun-Times, ANY OF THE NEWS RAGS.

Go to www.freerepublic.com.
Read news articles from news sources throughout the US and world-wide, news that you are NOT allowed to read, because the corrupt-socialist/govt.-run news rags are not allowed to publish actual facts and figures.

Line the bird's cage and the cat's box with the Trib and Sun-Times, and broaden your horizons and read other news sources that will print the news as it is made...stop marching in lock step with sociaist obama and his minions by watching/listening to local news stations and reading socialist/govt.-run news.

Vote conservative/Republican. Watch FOX NEWS Network on cable, listen to Mark Levin on WLS nightly at 9PM/12 Midnight, Rush Limbaugh on WLS at 11AM/2PM daily, Shawn Hannity on WLS 6PM/9PM daily. You're going to get the news straight, and you're going to get the facts. This country is in a socialist takeover mode, and we have to stop this insanity and return this country to the Constitution, liberty and the freedom to pursue happiness.

Step up, speak out, join forces and march toward City Hall and DEMAND that you be allowed to do the job you were hired to do. The hell with Daley...a bloated piece of festering corruption with boozy eyes and a fried brain. The city is crash-diving and we must take a stand and bring this insane downward spiral to a stop.

A quote from WINSTON CHURCHILL....
"If you will not fight for right when you can easily win without blood shed; if you will not fight when your victory is sure and not too costly; you may come to the moment when you will have to fight with all the odds against you and only a precarious chance of survival. There may even be a worse case. You may have to fight when there is no hope of victory, because it is better to perish than to live as slaves."

If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything.

I had no idea any were dead (it's not a brand new list). I swear I didn't whack 'em!

How "left" anyone on FUX News is depends a lot on where the viewer is, and to what extent they consider the mere existence of any faint argument against anything the Right does to be horrid horrid UberLeft oppression.

And I have always, all my adult life, held a very conservative stance when it comes to violent crime. In that area you and I have very little argument.

"how about the group of 200 young male and female blacks walking up and down michigan ave last week , 018 dist didn't know what to do i sat and watch as one crazy looking sgt from 018 yelled and screamed at the kids and his officers to push the kids along , no police at all on such a busy street , the 15 ppo's don't really count , they have no idea what to do ?"

You expect us to believe you were watching all this unfold and couldn't find a phone booth to put on the "off doo tee supah copp" threads? At the very least, you should have pulled a "46XX SORT car" and thrown cuffs on an offender or two and ordered up a paper car on the $75 CPD-compatible radio you purchased on e-bay for $600.

all the shitheads have to do is jump the turnstile on the red (charcoal) line and go downtown to help themselves to all the spoils--- if they are caught the vic's are usually from out of town and won't be coming back for court( i.e. nolle prosse or ms/sol)--- recently a judge in an arabic court was inquiring at several hospitals on how to paralyze an offender who had paralyzed a victim in a fight--- this judge actually wanted to paralyze the offender as punishment for paralyzing the victim in a case before him in his court room--- one hospital said no because they could not do that to a person and the other hospital said it would be painful to the bad guy--- can we please get this judge here pronto--- an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth may be what we need in crook county.....

so, why, then, is it breaking news when a coyote, a predator, is spotted in some suburbanite's back yard? or that cougar, another dangerous predator?

you're spot on, though, with your admission of your journalistic duty to "... get back to work... got all these real crimes da mayer needs us to sweep under the rug ...".

thanks for your candor on this matter.

The people of Chicago need to stand against this, not run away. Its how so many great neighborhoods in Chicago have been lost.

One person can only fight for so long.

In the 1980s/1990s, the Chicago Tribune had a story about the last Black Middle Class Englewood Woman. While trying to make a difference, this woman had seen and heard "everything" in her many years of living there.

The last straw came, when bullets went through her living room windows. After that, she packed up her stuff and moved to suburbia.

If someone is liberal for asking about crime, then the police officers who supported King Daley II (1980-present) must be liberal too. :)
