NW Side Aldercreatures Not Happy

  • Police Superintendent Jody Weis' proposal to redeploy officers from safer neighborhoods to high-crime areas drew outrage from a Northwest Side alderman, "concern" from a police sergeant running for the 41st Ward City Council seat, and a wait-and-see attitude from the district commander.

"At this point I really don't know what to say," said Jefferson Park (16th) District Police Cmdr. David McNaughton, two days after Weis floated the idea during City Council budget hearings "We haven't been given any information yet that would lead us to believe we'd be one of the districts they'd be drawing from."

That's even though the 16th is the largest district in the city, with one of the lowest crime rates.

Again, the gist of this article is that criminals will go where the police aren't at. The same is true across the city. This appears more and more to be Shortshank's final flipping of the bird to the decent neighborhoods he couldn't completely ruin over 20 years of mismanagement.

Criminals tend to commit crimes near where they live. Generally they aren't the most ambitious folks around and are too damn lazy to travel.

That being said if crime did go up in the "quiet" districts after realignment then Weis's successor would just have to realign again.

Better yet eliminate the BS do nothing back office jobs and put those officers on the street.

Better yet end the drug war and then incarcerate the seriously criminal. I know in Cook County few drug users are going to end up as guests of the state, at least for drug use, but downstate it's another story. They actually prosecute for crimes we generally ignore here. Burglarize a farm outside Podunkville and first offense or not you're likely going to spend a year or more in prison.

Shit, in Cook County you almost have to beg to actually be sent to prison for anything outside a violent felony and maybe even that.

People who pay lots of taxes and struggle to maintain their homes and do the right thing i.e. pay their bills on time, get little to no city services and especially Police service [i.e. low manpower and no coverage]!

People who pay no taxes, sponge of the system and scamming link, unemployment and welfare benefits! In addition to committing crimes and are just plain stupid and are no benefit to society! Get all the attention and city services that can be thrown at them!

No wonder tax paying, working people want to leave this rat city! Something is definitely wrong with this!

I agree, people in 016 should call in suspicious auto, suspicious person, suspicious auto with no occupants, burglary in progress, fight in progress, shots fired, etc...

The problem is people in 016 don't call enough. If anything goes wrong, then call 911.

Taxpayers do not realize that these districts have been stripped of manpower for a long time now. It is quite common for 16 or 17 to be no cars available for extended periods of time.
Aldermen like Levar and Doroghty have just sat back and let the police be sent to other areas without concern for their own taxpaying residents.

Good answer, but lets be more specific. They need to QUIT calling the 16th district police station for every little freaking thing like the CRAPS office has told them to do for so many years and start calling 911 like the ghetto rats do SO THE CALLS GET COUNTED!!! Wake up people!!! 911 is the spot where they count the number of incoming calls. Every time you DON'T call 911, your call is not counted and therefore when the statistics come out it looks like there is no reason for the police to be needed in your area. Get it???

Just a question, and not a sign of support for the mayor or your Sup:

Doesn't it make sense to overload the districts that have the highest crime with officers, even if it means taking bodies from nicer neighborhoods? Isn't it more about making sure the officers in the really violent areas have the (or as close to) right amount of support when dealing with these thugs?

Sure, when you burn the nest the rats (or whatever vermin) spread out - but you still burnt the nest and got a bunch of them.

Moot point, because from what I read here no amount of redployment will ever make up for the lack of vision your "leadership" is exercising.

Are there any white shirts out there who are willing to stand up for their own property & family safety over your spot. And to all the blue shirts : NO MORE ACTIVITY!! Your spots are all going to disappear and you will be in uniform in the getto and no one will be available when your family needs the police.

Section 8 has been deeply rooted in many neighborhoods in the 016th district. Besides all the baby mamma drama coming from these abodes are the men that they bed with including the guns, drugs and criminal gang behavior. Not only are these thugs thrusted upon our formerly pristeen streets, we STILL pay higher property taxes and now even less police than the low numbers of police that we already have. The beats in 016 are huge and if an officer is tied up on another job, service is even slower. Another blow to the white middle-class taxpayer. Every alderman in 016 should be all over this.

They're not going to be hurt at all are they? Nobody is trying to fuck their pension over. They've left no blood, sweat and tears on these streets for 20 to 40 plus years yet they sit around and dream up ways to pick a Policeman's pockets trying to take away whet he's earned.

We would almost think they're begging for open rebellion.

Craziest shit in the world to tell armed people that gave up one third to half of their lives that their sacrifice of time means nothing.

To say nothing about the watches would be balanced and no one would have to be snatched from their watch for furlough relief. And uniformity, the rest of the police department, those who do not wear blue shirts, pick by watch.

We had a pilot program and around 2004-05 it was voted down by unit reps. It is still a good idea and should have been implemented, unlikely now however.
