A couple days ago there was a person asking about patrol carbines and what's best to get. There is no number one answer for this since everyone favors various manufacturers for verious reasons.

However I got a good deal through Lewis Machine and Tool. Google them and check out there website, and get in contact with the sales person who deals with the CPD. They have seperate law enforcement pricing that quite a bit less than what is posted on their website.

Once you place an order/transaction, they'll send it to that Krupa guy who resides in 008 where the taxes and transfer fee is settled. I think I had my gun in less than 2 weeks from the time I ordered it to the time I picked it up.

It's a solid rifle, and they have 3 to choose from that you can get with the law enforcement pricing. Ask around though and see what others are carrying. Hope this helps

I am seeing a lot of cops UNDER 50 that have no business being on the streets either. due to lack of physical stature, cowardice, poor physical condition,
incompetence, laziness or other factors.
I can tell you that there were, and are still a lot of over 50 cops that will still kick ass when the situation calls for it. There was Lukensmeyer, Gloves Davis, among other.
I've seen some PPO's that are barely 5 foot tall working the street. WTF can they do in a fight? Hope they're good shots.
However, policing is mostly report writing and communicating. You only occasionally have to go hands on with people so age, for the most part ,does'nt matter.

I have to agree whole-heartedly, LMT puts out a fantastic product and their customer service/support is spot-on.

The weapon systems are reliable, well built and fire like buttah. Their top of the line weapon system has a changable barrel system that allows you to change out the caliber as well as barrel length with the twist of two screws. Pretty cool.

All make good rifles and I've shot most of them. LMT's product sold me. They are fans of CPD and will help with whatever they can. Also some helpful advice. The choices are many but the bottom line is performance and price.

In response to the guy giving advice about what carbine to buy here is another option, DS Arms in Barrington. There is nothing wrong with any of the approved carbines on the list but only one manufacturer gives the CPD and other local LE agencies an on duty lifetime warranty ie if your car gets rear ended and gun is broken they will replace it, as long as it is on duty. The base rifle is $ 725.00 and you can drive to barrington and pick it up the same day, they will even install all the accessories on the rifle for you, hard to beat a deal like this. They are the friends of the police and support us in many ways in raffles and donations.Matt Bender is your contact and if you go as a group they will let you peek in the back and see some cool shit.

I agree. We all have different preferences, different budgets, etc. Do your research, ask around. I took my time , almost a year to decide which carbine to get- I went w/ an LMT Lewis Machine and Tool. Great quality and excellent customer service. Mr. Ryan and Mary Jo Oliver were quick to response w/ any questions. Mary Jo handles Chicago Police orders. The wait time was about 7-10 business days.

Anybody catch the shot that J-fled threw at the previous four superintendents? Apparently he is still reeling from "the wearing of the uniform" comment and talked about how he is going to do what the previous four superintendents failed to do by re-aligning the manpower. Waa, Waa, crybaby.

J-Fled is talking about how crime is down, but we all know the truth. It really isn't. My suggestion; Do paper on every job you get. Get an RD# and document everything. It justifies you being down on a job and it will require more manpower to investigate these incidents. Crime statistics go up, justifying more manpower and J-Fled looks bad.

10/25/2010 12:55:00 AM

"White bicycles?" Is this a special grouping? I hadn't noticed.

Can't employ common sense when there is none. There are idiots on bicycles the same way there are idiots driving cars and idiots on foot. The number of all of them seems to have increased with the general dumbing-down of society.

I actually remember a serious discussion about how stop signs are "racist" because they reflect the norms of only one group.

A bicyclist gets the worst of all of it; the pedestrians who will actually make eye contact with you and keep a blank expression as they walk in front of you in the middle of the block, as though the 275-pound object hurtling towards them at 25 MPH simply did not exist, the bicycle morons wearing all black at night (the baggy gang clothes about to get caught in the chain or spokes) as they ride their little sister's bike the wrong way on the wrong side of the street, talking on a cell phone, and the thousand-and-one ways to die presented by automobile drivers.

You will be shouted at, called an "a__hole," for either wearing or not wearing a helmet, using or not using safety gear, etc.

If soneone's unleashed, untrained dog comes after you, it's because you "did/didn't have your headlight on," or "you're riding around looking for trouble," according to various owners who are wrong as hell and know it.

In Oak Park, where there are 'way too many lawyers, they will insist that the huge Rottweiler they're frantically dragging into the house "isn't my dog."

Take your pick.

Was talking to a railroad copper the other night about the pedestrian risking his life on the tracks, chasing a handful of paper napkins he'd dropped from his takeout food as a commuter train approached with Mars lights gyrating and horn blasting. Nothing much you can do but step back and radio for a rubber bag.

They're everywhere. Me, I'm a great believer in Darwin -- who will get you if you slip up.

If you wear enough reflective material on your bike, it creates another hazard for you; idiots who hit their high beams and blind you just to see the Scotchlite light up.

There you are, over at the curb, hand over your eyes, obviously cursing a blue streak as they drive past with their mouths hanging open.

Since our current government encourages and subsidizes the breeding of people like this, and protects them from being exterminated as hazards to public safety, they quite naturally multiply. You can't win...

...so be careful.

P.S. Hang in there. The "hordes" are mainly over towards the lake, and will dwindle to almost nothing as soon as it gets cold -- leaving the streets to the more serious rider.

Good grief Charlie Brown, did anyone hear the news about the NFL putting restrictions on players that are delivering " hits ". It's a football game. This is the same thing that happened to a police department a number of years ago.

Anyone else catch Jennifer Beal's quotes in the ST yesterday? She's playing the Supt. of CPD in a new TV show shot here, "Ride-Along."

Her observations from being out on the street pretending to be our Supt:

"There's such a huge disrespect for the police department based in large part on the behavior of a very small minority," she says. "It was really shocking to see how disrespectful people were. And what was also distressful was to see how people were not forthcoming with information. ... I'd also see kids at midnight, 6-year-old kids, double-dutching in the street when they should be at home asleep. And they're half a block away from all the drug dealers who are doing their business on the street. What kids are subjected to makes it very clear how the cycle begins and ends."

I was struck by the fact that she's only pretending to be the CPD Supt on TV, but is more insightful than the guy who pretends to be the Supt in real life.

Also wonder when J-Fled is going to bring the hammer down on the detective that acts as an advisor to the show? Got lots of good ink in the ST yesterday. Photo with Beals.

......that little thing in the news recently about retiring cops recently made me think of what is the percentage of cops on our department over 50? Just curious because during the power test there was a sheet that gave different times to do the mile and a half for different ages. And rightly so, but I know for a fact that there are a lot of cops I am seeing that are on the street over 50 that perhaps could serve better on some sort of detail that would ease these proud don't want to leave the streets cops into a nice pre-retirement phase. After all it sems when you are that old, probably it is best the streets are not for you anymore. No disrespect, just being realistic.

When we were allowed to carry carbines I wanted to purchase one. Honestly I really had no knowledge about different brands and didn't know which one to go with. I did a lot of research on the internet and found an excellent post written by a guy in Texas. The post this guy did explains in very simple terms what are the major components in a rifle are, what they do, and what to look for when purchasing a rifle. At the end of the post several people put up photos of their personal rifles and show what the companies did right and what could be done better. If you google "So you wanna buy an AR huh." the first link should be to the article. If you want to buy a rifle and would like to learn what to look for before you buy this is a great place to start.

Also there are only four or five companies in the country that actually MAKE their rifles. By that I mean that most companies buy parts made for them by one of these companies and then have their names stamped into them. Colt, and LMT definitely make their own rifles and I believe Armalite does too. Rock River, DSA, and even high end companies like LWRC and Les Baer do not manufacture the core components themselves.

What you would do, if you wanted to just show up and start copying, would be to convince a grand jury to issue a subpoena, take that subpoena, and "offer" to do the copying for them.

Just because we puss-ass around with grand jury subpoenas, doesn't mean the feds do.

Or, if you had the horses, you would just apply for a search warrant. It's all about how heavy handed you want to be.

I get a kick out of reading the prognosticators write of which boss will slide over to which other spot and who will get the ADS spot and who will like it and who will be pissed and what this all means.

Does anyone realize that it doesn't really mean shit? I've seen this shuffling of the deck so many times over the years that I truly don't pay attention any more.

I only know one of those guys anyway and that one guy might, just might, take a half a second to say hello if I pass him in the hall.

And in all the many shufflings of the command staff deck through the years, the department has gotten steadily worse and so many of these scrambled egg wearing fucks have done nothing more than qualify for a richer pension, at our expense.

Imagine the millions upon millions of increased pension payments paid out to that dead weight; money out of our pension fund!

At least the fire department had the sense to get their gold braid bill killed. Pension based on the highest civil service rank. Period.

On the police department that would be lieutenant.

Imagine how they would howl if their pension were based on lieutenant pay and no more!

Any pension "reform" should include exactly that. If future police officers get their pensions cut then future bosses should be there side by side with reduced pensions too.

Anything less is criminal.

Go on iclear any time and look at the widely disproportionate number of women working second watch in any district. Do they all have that much seniority? They eat up all the management spots. Many years ago I worked 3rd watch in 011. We has less than ten women on the watch. I left and went to 013. My second roll call on midnights I was the only male present. You don't think the department loads up slow districts with women. Have you ever looked at some of these crazy units like Field Services? They're over half female. Anyone know if the old Roos Building out in Forest Park -- it's next to the Eisenhower, just west of Ferrara Pan Candy Co. on Circle -- is still standing?

Disastrous attempt at condo conversion of a huge old factory building. Project failed, building condemned by village and slowly being wrecked by vandals, and bullding is wide open at northwest corner -- brick walls don't come together at corner and wind can get in, push, lift -- and a mass of desperate temporary wood bracing inside.

If anything'd come down in a high wind, this thing would.

A few years ago, the old Berwyn police station (sold to "developers" in a quick deal) collapsed in a windstorm after the jackleg masonry the illegal alien bricklayers were adding to make more floors of "condos" didn't hold up. Wrecked the bar next door too, could have killed twenty people. I was scared to walk past that place; everything out-of-plumb, big cracks propagating...

It's a park today. They didn't know what else to do with it...

It is now slowly, horribly coming out that Antoinette Keller, the 19-year-old NIU student who "disappeared" on a walk in the woods near campus, was apparently murdered and cremated out there.

They're still not sure of the identification, but Channel 9 had to interview an anthropologist just now to tentatively, vaguely, carefully explain in the passive tense about "things subjected to the high heat."

It's not like you'll be strolling along there and will suddenly encounter a spot where it's 2,000 degrees.

It's beginning to look like SOMEONE MURDERED THS BEAUTIFUL YOUNG GIRL AND THEN BURNED HER UP.

This must surely be a "random act" if everyone's been shilly-shallying and mumbling and swallowing their words about it for days now.

One is the boo-foo nephew of an alderman. The other a drinking buddy of an alderman. Women and minorities have to toe the line in Northwest Side clout land.

Just wondering how much drug money that originates here in Chicago is contributing to this:

Mexico's drug cartels unleash a weekend of bloody violence

Gang kills 13 at drug rehab clinic in border town of Tijuana

•High school students in Ciudad Juárez gunned down at birthday party

[...] Armed men burst into a drug rehab centre in the Mexican border city of Tijuana and killed up to 13 people. While police would only confirm today that 10 people were shot dead, officials had been celebrating a decline in the terror unleashed on the city by the drug cartels.

The attackers made the addicts lie on the floor and then sprayed them with bullets, killing 13 during the assault on Sunday night, according to one witness, Jesus, who asked to be identified only by his first name for fear of reprisals. There are normally about 45 clients at this ramshackle, privately run treatment centre and the people sleeping upstairs survived.

Police have not identified the motive behind the massacre but gangs have attacked clinics in other cities to target rivals.

It was the second massacre of the weekend in Mexico: 14 people were killed on Friday night when gunmen stormed a birthday party in another border city, Ciudad Juárez. The victims ranged from 13 to 32 years old, and most of them were high school students, a survivor said.

"It's not like you'll be strolling along there and will suddenly encounter a spot where it's 2,000 degrees."

Don't people sometimes spontaneously combust?

"It is now slowly, horribly coming out that Antoinette Keller, the 19-year-old NIU student who "disappeared" on a walk in the woods near campus, was apparently murdered and cremated out there."

"They're still not sure of the identification..."

--10/26/2010 05:26:00 PM

What I managed to pick out last night was that "the remains were so badly burned they can't even say right now whether or not they're human or animal -- but that Keller's possessions were scattered nearby."

My, are they tiptoing around this one. It's obviously important that it be characterized as a "random act" and that it be forgotten as quickly as possible -- preferably before anyone even knows anything about it.

'I can tell you that there were, and are still a lot of over 50 cops that will still kick ass when the situation calls for it. There was Lukensmeyer, Gloves Davis, among other.'

Today's police? 'Gloves' would be stripped, 30 pending, or he would have been Cozzied by now, and would be sitting in a cell due to his 'fists of fury.' No room for his kind of police service out there today, what with cameras every place you look.
Lukensmeyer? I think he currently IS sitting in a cell....

So has anyone had a family member try to apply yet?

I just watched my Cousin go through the site...

And despite an Associates Degree, being a part time City Employee (Special Events staff), living in the city ...and all the other minimum requirements needed...

the site kicked his app back as "does not meet the Minimum requirements."

How does an American Indian with a Degree and City job not meet the minimum requirements to Apply to take the CPD test?
