Recruit Injured Helping Motorist

  • Daniel Vazquez, a newly minted police officer, was on his way home from a South Side district when he noticed a car had just crashed on the Stevenson Expressway and stopped to help.

Vazquez got out of his car to check on the uninjured driver when he was hit by another car at about 12:45 a.m. today at Damen Avenue, according to the state police.

He suffered head injuries and was reported in critical condition at Stroger Hospital. His family said this afternoon he had been bleeding from his brain and was under sedation.
First reports had him walking himself to the ambulance, but the injuries were a bit more serious that initially thought. Hopefully, not serious enough to keep him from a career he obviously wanted very badly. Best wishes to you kid - we need you out here.

That should be covered because it was in the performance of his Duties. If the city doesn't cover him the FOP should still step up and help him any way they can. If FOP can not help. He will still have his brothers in Blue that will step up and have a benifit to help him. Our best wishes for a speedy recovery. Great Job Officer.

Another example of the type of people who become police officers. We hear so much bad and it isn't until an officer is injured or killed that we hear about the kind of individual they were. After Baily, Worhtam and Soderberg were killed we found out about all the worthwhile and humanitarian things they did to help other individuals and their community. The police Department is loaded with these types of people and Daniel is just the latest example of they type of character most officers have, but are unknown tot the general public because the press would rather show the negative because it sells better and we don't brag about our good works and get streets named after us.

God Bless Daniel

Funny, when one of our officers is alledged on some BS complaint of responding to an active resister, jfled and the puppet masters go into high gear to get the word out, tv appearences, press conferences, blast emails to everyone telling us when we can see his ugly mug on tv again. But when one of our own takes their own life - nothing, crickets....

This regime does not care about anyone on this department, their priority is themselves, nothing more. The silence is deafening. This about sums up his entire tenure here. What a bunch of souless cowards.

The Chicago area expressways are extremely dangerous, even during the day with nice weather. It only gets worse at night and in inclement weather. Any time you stop your vehicle on the shoulder with traffic whizzing by at 70mph you are only inches away from serious injury or death. You must constantly look at oncoming traffic and stay vigilant or you will get hit. My prayers go out to the officer and I wish him a speedy recovery.

"First reports had him walking himself to the ambulance, but the injuries were a bit more serious that initially thought."

Head injuries can be like that; plenty of people have been in a serious accident, shrugged it off and driven themselves home, then lapsed into a coma on the couch and died later. Duane Allman, the rock guitarist, comes to mind; rear-ended a lumber truck on his Harley and just went home. By the time they got him to the hospital, it was too late.

I think a deep-seated survival reflex kicks in; something that's wired into us to allow us to make it back to the cave -- where we might have a chance -- before we pass out.

On injuries like this, ignore protestations and take the person to the hospital.

An 84-year-old retired Chicago police officer, who was suffering from significant medical conditions, apparently shot and killed his 83-year-old wife in Lakeland on Friday, then turned the gun on himself, the Polk County Sheriff Office reported today.

Deputies were sent to the home of Robert and Renee Lintz at 4841 Goldenview Lane at about 11:15 a.m. after a home health care nurse discovered the couple dead in the kitchen, the sheriff's office said.

The Lintzes had been married roughly 60 years. Like her husband, Renee suffered from significant medical conditions, the sheriff's office said.

Robert Lintz was a police officer in Chicago from 1953 to 1979.

Autopsies will be conducted by the Polk County Medical Examiner's Office on Sunday.

Obviously you were the one who was half asleep three quarters of the time at that meeting. This has been going around for many months. Vote for Brady to be sure it passes.

Aside from you receiving a substandard education, you just aren't very smart.

Read this and see if it sounds vaguely familiar:

TWO TIERED PENSION SYSTEM

Current sworn cannot have their pension diminished or changed. State Law, not even an "FOP Fat Cat" (?) can change that.

Any changes to the pension as to highest percentage and required years of service are proposed for new hires only. Thus, the second tier. See, 1st tier: us
2nd tier: not us

And FOP doesn't have to agree, and they most certainly do not agree. Your buddies in the Illinois State Legislature will do it almost all by themselves, with help from those folks from the City of Chicago.

So spend some time hitting the books or go to some remedial English and Spelling classes and have a Starbucks double shot before your next FOP meeting.

The assailant/Sian James was on parole for criminal sexual assault.

I am not sure if the 18 month probation thing was given to the city by an arbitrator or traded but during contract negotiations the only way the city gives something to the FOP is if the city gets something in return by the FOP.

And usually the city expects the upper hand. The huge exception is the 4-2 work schedule. weis made an agreement with Donahue and gave it to us. I heard daley blew a gasket when he heard this and the city got nothing in return for it.

The City fully intends to help push through a two tiered pension system for CPD and probably CFD too.

The new hires (NOT CURRENT SWORN!) will have to work longer and will get less as a top pension.

This is not without precedent on the CPD. Back in the day of the 1968 Democratic Convention police had to work till age 55 to get a 50% pension.

The age went down over the years and the upper end amount went up. Now it is headed the other way, but again, not for current sworn or current pensioners.

As for contributions, it is likely that new hires will contribute more than the current 9%. The CFD already volunteered to raise their contributions from 9% to 11% but the City said no. The city does not want to match the 11% by a factor of x2.

Expect they will also not want to match any increase in contribution by us or new hires.

The other huge problem is that the pension fund currently pays out $250 million a year MORE than it takes in from all sources.

That cannot continue or the well will run dry. The employees (US) must contribute more and the employer (City of Chicago) must also contribute more and the multiplier must be increased.

Any thing other than that is bullshit.

And the grandstand play by Ed Burke is also bullshit; it is true but so what?

Ed Burke has been chairman of which City Council Committee?

FINANCE!

So Ed Burke knew of this looming fiasco for many years and did exactly NOTHING! Now that he can see the end of the line looming he blows the whistle just as the speeding train is about to go off the tracks. Nice going Ed. Can you sing Danny Boy just one more time before you check out?

These cases are so terribly sad, and I've heard an increasing number of them lately, police and non-police families alike, as people live longer, perhaps getting sicker and outliving their savings, and with the economy worsening.

Sixty years of marriage -- an offering made day by day by day -- is a holy thing. At least now there will be no more suffering or pain, and neither of them will ever be alone.

"What God hath joined together, let no man break asunder."

When they show up, hand in hand, the gates will swing open for them.

God bless them both.

This recruit HAS passed all phases of his training, he is a PPO, no longer a recruit... he will not be recycled with another class, maybe just refresher classes... other than head injury he is in pretty good shape... and is expected (God Willing) to make a full recovery..I went to visit him, keep him in your prayers..and pray department do right thing... but until otherwise occurs, quit being so damn negative...

You're living in wishful-thinking land. We're not being negative; we're being realistic.

Come to think of it, I took off the rose-colored glasses myself at about year sixteen. The world looks a lot different when you're actually SEEING it.

And we're still waiting for someone, ANYONE, to publicly praise the young man and guarantee his job and financial well-being. Mark? Richie? Anybody???

"You aren't going to hear from J-Fraud because he was at Disney World last week."

That idiot has been in disneyworld his whole fake LE career. He never actually made a physical arrest in his life. He has never known reality, he forever wished to have a star and his dreams never came true thanks to second city cop and the cozzi fiasco. Soon he will be gone and I hope second city cop follows whats left of his sorrid life and dogs him until we get the news that his heart blew up or another fatal steroid induced anomality.

All recruits become part of FOP after 12 months, but do not receive all of the benefits and are not completely covered by the contract. After 12 months there are a specified number of benefits they receive, but not all of the FOP and contract benefits Read your contract, these benefits are spelled out in it
