Recruit Injured Helping Motorist
Daniel Vazquez, a newly minted police officer, was on his way home from a South Side district when he noticed a car had just crashed on the Stevenson Expressway and stopped to help.
He suffered head injuries and was reported in critical condition at Stroger Hospital. His family said this afternoon he had been bleeding from his brain and was under sedation.
Vazquez got out of his car to check on the uninjured driver when he was hit by another car at about 12:45 a.m. today at Damen Avenue, according to the state police.
First reports had him walking himself to the ambulance, but the injuries were a bit more serious that initially thought. Hopefully, not serious enough to keep him from a career he obviously wanted very badly. Best wishes to you kid - we need you out here.

Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery.
Our prayers are with Officer Vazquez, and his family and friends. May God's healing hand and presence be upon our Officer Vazquez.
dont 4 get a recruit under 18months isnt covered under THE FOP CONTRACT.
NICE JOB GIVING THE CITY AN EXTRA 6 MONTHS TO SCREW OFFICER WITH!
Marine veteran. Wife. Kids.
I wish him and his family only the best.
Get well quickly.
This is exactly the type of thing that the men/women of the CPD face daily, yet we never think about until someone is hurt...
I'm no cop, but I have the utmost respect for those of you who put yourself at risk daily for the citizenry.
Best wishes for a speedy recovery...
Feel better soon brother!
Well wishes and prayers for a speedy recovery, Officer. Stay strong.
That should be covered because it was in the performance of his Duties. If the city doesn't cover him the FOP should still step up and help him any way they can. If FOP can not help. He will still have his brothers in Blue that will step up and have a benifit to help him. Our best wishes for a speedy recovery. Great Job Officer.
This is a very very sad week for CPD. We already lost one of our own a couple of days ago and we don't want to loose you too, Danny.
Hang in there, Soldier. You're already a HERO.
Please SCC (or anybody), if there's a benefit going on for Officer Vazquez, keep us inform.
017th District
We're all pulling for you brother in blue!! Thoughts n prayers for him, family n friends. Keep fighting office
We got your back, Dan.
You remain in our thoughts and prayers.
Another example of... Chicago's Finest.
Prayers Officer!
Get better office,,We need you out there! You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.
Best wishes to Officer Vazquez for a speedy, full recovery.
Another example of the type of people who become police officers. We hear so much bad and it isn't until an officer is injured or killed that we hear about the kind of individual they were. After Baily, Worhtam and Soderberg were killed we found out about all the worthwhile and humanitarian things they did to help other individuals and their community. The police Department is loaded with these types of people and Daniel is just the latest example of they type of character most officers have, but are unknown tot the general public because the press would rather show the negative because it sells better and we don't brag about our good works and get streets named after us.
God Bless Daniel
Praying for a quick recovery. Nice job to help when you finished a tour of duty. My thoughts are with your family and friends.
Get well soon brother
As of now I can find no mention or statement from J-Fled or the mayor. Now if the recruit somehow made a mistake they would have been having news conferences all day. That is how they role, if there is any doubt that they hate cops here it is in black and white. Don't forget the big delay when the last two coppers where killed, J-Fled never made a fake tearfull statement till way later. God forbid he can not come back to duty for awhile, the city will fire him. They have done this before. They should carry him IOD because he was taking police action at the time by the motorist assist.

It's AssHats like you that start shit where isn't any.
GOD BLESS KID---FROM AN OLD TIMER
My prayers are with you. Please get better, kid. Sad.
This should be covered as an IOD. The moment an off-duty takes police action in an emergency, he or she automatically goes "on-duty" and is entitled to OT and IOD if injured. The bosses BETTER do the right thing and take care of this officer!
God Bless you officer. Get well and do it soon brother.
I so hate to read the words "head injuries." I have two friends who have suffered TBIs and it can be a life-changer.
Hope he recovers fully.
did he obtain an event number?
Get well soon, Officer.
Did the striking motorist stop? Was he cited? I might be retired from maiu, but I hate these careless drivers who can't look out for their fellow motorists. When it comes to the roadways, there are no safe neighborhoods. I hope Vazquez recovers and quickly, sounds like he'll be a good copper.
OT - "Once again, we appear to have lost one of our own to a suicide."
Funny, when one of our officers is alledged on some BS complaint of responding to an active resister, jfled and the puppet masters go into high gear to get the word out, tv appearences, press conferences, blast emails to everyone telling us when we can see his ugly mug on tv again. But when one of our own takes their own life - nothing, crickets....
This regime does not care about anyone on this department, their priority is themselves, nothing more. The silence is deafening. This about sums up his entire tenure here. What a bunch of souless cowards.
Our prayers are with you.
To bad the city wont back this young hero. He is a PPO and will probably be fired. Dont forget he is on probation and exspendable for the first 18 months.
The Chicago area expressways are extremely dangerous, even during the day with nice weather. It only gets worse at night and in inclement weather. Any time you stop your vehicle on the shoulder with traffic whizzing by at 70mph you are only inches away from serious injury or death. You must constantly look at oncoming traffic and stay vigilant or you will get hit. My prayers go out to the officer and I wish him a speedy recovery.
Retired ISP
Some one needs to really start explaining the rumors going around that our pension will soon max out at 72% at 30 years. Also if you retire before 55, every month before that date you lose .25% of the 72%.
State Constitution states that ou pension can not be deminished!!!
The only way this happens is if FOP agrees to it!
Do not let those FOP fat cats fuck
with your pension!
This was all brought up at the last FOP meeting on Tuesday
Prayers are with him and his family for a full recovery. Hope to see you on the streets soon!!!
OT:
Check to see if your polling place has changed!
The Machine/Outfit has changed numerous polling places in ethnic neighborhoods on the NW side.
They have done this to suppress turnout among white, senior, moderate/conservative voters to help stooges like Giannoulias and Mulroe.
Check your Voter Guide that was mailed this past week or call (312)269-7900 to ensure that you and your elderly neighbors know where to vote.
You have a big heart Brother, our best to you and your family.
008
Get well soon office, Prayers go out to your family and freinds
The expectation is that he will be covered by the City as he was performing 'a police function'. Of course, we all know what happens to our 'expectations' on this job.
The union and the mayor need to step up and publicly praise him and guarantee that he's going to be covered for expenses and that his job is secure.
No, Jody - not you. We all KNOW how YOU feel.
Praying for you my Brother!!!
I hope the city is covering this young man with IOD since he was acting as he was trained, like a police officer.
"First reports had him walking himself to the ambulance, but the injuries were a bit more serious that initially thought."
Head injuries can be like that; plenty of people have been in a serious accident, shrugged it off and driven themselves home, then lapsed into a coma on the couch and died later. Duane Allman, the rock guitarist, comes to mind; rear-ended a lumber truck on his Harley and just went home. By the time they got him to the hospital, it was too late.
I think a deep-seated survival reflex kicks in; something that's wired into us to allow us to make it back to the cave -- where we might have a chance -- before we pass out.
On injuries like this, ignore protestations and take the person to the hospital.

You are a complete asshole. This has nothing to do with the FOP. This young officer will be fully covered by the department as a IOD. Now instead of saying stupid things maybe you could do one positive thing? Collection for this officer and his family.
An 84-year-old retired Chicago police officer, who was suffering from significant medical conditions, apparently shot and killed his 83-year-old wife in Lakeland on Friday, then turned the gun on himself, the Polk County Sheriff Office reported today.
Deputies were sent to the home of Robert and Renee Lintz at 4841 Goldenview Lane at about 11:15 a.m. after a home health care nurse discovered the couple dead in the kitchen, the sheriff's office said.
The Lintzes had been married roughly 60 years. Like her husband, Renee suffered from significant medical conditions, the sheriff's office said.
Robert Lintz was a police officer in Chicago from 1953 to 1979.
Autopsies will be conducted by the Polk County Medical Examiner's Office on Sunday.
j-fled doesn't have to worry about getting hit by a car during a traffic stop because he has never done one---- no movers, parkers, part one pinches, 143a's, 570/402--- the only thing he is guilty of is impersonation of the police----
Get well soon office, you and your family will be in my prayers for a quick and full recovery. God bless.

Obviously you were the one who was half asleep three quarters of the time at that meeting. This has been going around for many months. Vote for Brady to be sure it passes.
Aside from you receiving a substandard education, you just aren't very smart.
Read this and see if it sounds vaguely familiar:
TWO TIERED PENSION SYSTEM
Current sworn cannot have their pension diminished or changed. State Law, not even an "FOP Fat Cat" (?) can change that.
Any changes to the pension as to highest percentage and required years of service are proposed for new hires only. Thus, the second tier. See, 1st tier: us
2nd tier: not us
And FOP doesn't have to agree, and they most certainly do not agree. Your buddies in the Illinois State Legislature will do it almost all by themselves, with help from those folks from the City of Chicago.
So spend some time hitting the books or go to some remedial English and Spelling classes and have a Starbucks double shot before your next FOP meeting.
Off Topic Post-
Detective Brian Stevenson, a detective of the Baltimore Police Department was killed while off duty. The assailant picked up a piece of concrete off the street and struck the victim/Stevenson about the head area.
The assailant/Sian James was on parole for criminal sexual assault.
WTF? Another animal out loose to prey upon decent people. All animals should be locked up for their entire period of sentence. No exceptions.
Rest in peace Brother. May God watch over you and your family during this very difficult time.

I am not sure if the 18 month probation thing was given to the city by an arbitrator or traded but during contract negotiations the only way the city gives something to the FOP is if the city gets something in return by the FOP.
And usually the city expects the upper hand. The huge exception is the 4-2 work schedule. weis made an agreement with Donahue and gave it to us. I heard daley blew a gasket when he heard this and the city got nothing in return for it.
stopped to help a disabled motorist!not anything criminal!he will b recycled thru academy if he can pass power test!if not..he gone!!first thing they tell u in academy is go easy and dont get hurt..they will wash hands of you!!

They have nowhere NEAR a year on yet.
My Prayers are with you Office & with your family!! God,Please watch over our brother in blue, take care of him while he is hurting & heal him soon! His family needs him as we all do..God Bless this man.
I put this here so as not to interfere with the sad events of the Female officer's suicide.
Tragically, here is another.
A retired Chicago cop and his wife in a murder-suicide.
http://www.orlandosentinel.com/news/local/breakingnews/os-polk-murder-suicide-investigation-20101023,0,2563768.story
Deputies: Retired Chicago cop, wife dead in apparent murder-suicide at Lakeland home
Officials said it appeared Robert Lintz had shot his wife once in the head with a handgun, before turning the gun on himself.
Thoughts and prayers for our injured officer!
so I read the internet news headline from the liberal rag, "Man hit by car on Stevenson" Inside the story it says he was an officer. You think it would KILL these liberal reporters to write in the headline he was an off duty policeman doing something heroic, Naw
But they will bend over backwards to find out if a person involved in something stupid is an officer and that would be in the headlines for sure. unbelievable

I know it's a long link sorry, any reason why this isn't Aggravated, except the offender not being a PO?
Jody better decorate this brave officer and I hope they made it an IOD.
A Marine and a 2x Iraq vet. and a fellow police officer!
A true American. I am proud of you.
The bosses BETTER do the right thing and take care of this officer!

Amen to that. This is the perfect opportunity for a boss or bosses to step up and show us the size of their balls. Politicians too, fuck, it's mid-term election year. There has to be some scum sucking politicos looking to make points.
Get well soon!

YOU KEEP TELLING YOURSELF THAT. THERES' NUMEROUS FORMER OFFICERS IN THE SAME SITUATION WHILE ON PROBATION & ARE NO LONGER IN THE EMPLOY OF THE CPD. UNLESS YOU'VE GOT CLOUT THEN IT'S A WHOLE DIFFERENT STORY....
Anonymous at 12:25Pm said, "OT: Check to see if your polling place has changed!.....

WE MUST PROTECT THE VOTE! Keep your eyes on the vote...be prepared to be distracted inside and outside of the polls by lefty thugs/cheats. Have a plan of action to deal with them, AND DON'T BE DISTRACTED FROM KEEPING YOUR EYES ON THE VOTE.
Remember, socialists will do anything to steal the vote. These are socialists/marxists/communists/fascists/revolutionaries that we're talking about. Their mentor, Saul Alinsky, wrote a book entitled, "Rules for Radicals"...obama is following this book to the letter...have you read it? The book is dedicated to "Lucifer", that's right, the Prince of Darkness, another name for the devil. Research it yourself on Google...this is what we are dealing with...evil, corrupt, desperate people. We'd better get off our duffs and GUARD THE VOTE, ASSIST THOSE WHO NEED TRANSPORTATION TO THE POLLS AND BE PREPARED TO FIGHT THESE EVIL BASTARDS AT THE POLLS.
Or else we wil lose the United States of America, our Constitution, our freedoms and liberty to the hell and enslavement of socialism...ask any emigrant from Poland, Lithuania, Cuba, Venezuela what he/she thinks about socialism...ask them as they kneel and kiss the ground that is the United States of America, land of the FREE and home of the BRAVE...ask them.
This breaks my heart.

The City fully intends to help push through a two tiered pension system for CPD and probably CFD too.
The new hires (NOT CURRENT SWORN!) will have to work longer and will get less as a top pension.
This is not without precedent on the CPD. Back in the day of the 1968 Democratic Convention police had to work till age 55 to get a 50% pension.
The age went down over the years and the upper end amount went up. Now it is headed the other way, but again, not for current sworn or current pensioners.
As for contributions, it is likely that new hires will contribute more than the current 9%. The CFD already volunteered to raise their contributions from 9% to 11% but the City said no. The city does not want to match the 11% by a factor of x2.
Expect they will also not want to match any increase in contribution by us or new hires.
The other huge problem is that the pension fund currently pays out $250 million a year MORE than it takes in from all sources.
That cannot continue or the well will run dry. The employees (US) must contribute more and the employer (City of Chicago) must also contribute more and the multiplier must be increased.
Any thing other than that is bullshit.
And the grandstand play by Ed Burke is also bullshit; it is true but so what?
Ed Burke has been chairman of which City Council Committee?
FINANCE!
So Ed Burke knew of this looming fiasco for many years and did exactly NOTHING! Now that he can see the end of the line looming he blows the whistle just as the speeding train is about to go off the tracks. Nice going Ed. Can you sing Danny Boy just one more time before you check out?
Any current updates on our brother who was injured? Please keep us posted SCC.

These cases are so terribly sad, and I've heard an increasing number of them lately, police and non-police families alike, as people live longer, perhaps getting sicker and outliving their savings, and with the economy worsening.
Sixty years of marriage -- an offering made day by day by day -- is a holy thing. At least now there will be no more suffering or pain, and neither of them will ever be alone.
"What God hath joined together, let no man break asunder."
When they show up, hand in hand, the gates will swing open for them.
God bless them both.

You're living in wishful-thinking land. We're not being negative; we're being realistic.
Come to think of it, I took off the rose-colored glasses myself at about year sixteen. The world looks a lot different when you're actually SEEING it.
And we're still waiting for someone, ANYONE, to publicly praise the young man and guarantee his job and financial well-being. Mark? Richie? Anybody???
"You aren't going to hear from J-Fraud because he was at Disney World last week."
That idiot has been in disneyworld his whole fake LE career. He never actually made a physical arrest in his life. He has never known reality, he forever wished to have a star and his dreams never came true thanks to second city cop and the cozzi fiasco. Soon he will be gone and I hope second city cop follows whats left of his sorrid life and dogs him until we get the news that his heart blew up or another fatal steroid induced anomality.
Bless u brother
All recruits become part of FOP after 12 months, but do not receive all of the benefits and are not completely covered by the contract. After 12 months there are a specified number of benefits they receive, but not all of the FOP and contract benefits Read your contract, these benefits are spelled out in it
God bless you Danny...
He's doing way better now..
guess all I can say for him is that yesterday, 6 days later, he finally had decency to show up at hospital to see Daniel
Get well soon Officer. My prayers are with you and yours. God Bless.
