A Cook County judge late last month found a man not guilty of dealing cocaine after police found drugs and weapons at a condo owned by Chicago’s highest-ranking female police officer in February 2009.
Casey Crawford, 30, was charged after police found nearly 170 grams of cocaine stuffed inside a PlayStation console at 4553 W. 56th St. Police also found four stolen firearms hidden in a closet, ammunition and a digital scale. According to the court file, the cocaine had a street value of $21,875.
According to the arrest report, Crawford cooperated with police and voluntarily told them that anything illegal in the apartment was his. Police initially acted on a tip from a criminal informant who said Crawford had illegal firearms in the residence. The search warrant didn’t mention drugs or Cuello.
At trial, [defense attorney] Pissetzky said, Circuit Court Judge Michael Howlett found that Crawford’s statement, by itself, was not enough to prove that the drugs were his. Because police failed to follow up on the statement, by seizing clothes or mail or fingerprinting the PlayStation or digital scale, Pissetzky said, prosecutors couldn’t prove their case.

.....Judge Michael Howlett found that Crawford’s statement, by itself, was not enough to prove that the drugs were his.....
So, they should charge the OWNER of the residence and ALL occupants with conspiracy to sell weapons, drugs and ammunition. Where are the FEDS on this one?
Jody, anyone?
off topic but keep in your prayers the family of female p.o from 008 midnights who just took her own life at home in 022. No details yet. If you need it please get help people. Long term solutions are not a good idea for short term problems.
Feel your pain, but you cant have it both ways. Don't complain, but encourage, main stream media when they steal from your site.

The control of the MSM by the Chicago DemocRatic machine is a well established fact.
TRUTH means nothing!!!
Its like the sheep hearder just tending the sheep, keep them in the dark and they just follow along..... but more and more folks are waking up.... pick your news sources wisley...

He don't seem to be up for re-election at this time, maybe that is the reason he was picked for that case
Makes one wonder
That's why I don't do a fucking thing unless it threatens me or mine. Fuck this place.
there was mail with his name on it found in the apt. You tell the police you did it, and are found not guilty.... gotta love cook county.
dirty dirty dirty....period..fucking joke LIFM
Citizens are getting fed up with this bullshit non reporting.Fucking papers and television bought and paid for!!!
Isn't the judge the son of a convicted dumocrat politician from the past?
Fingerprints? Really?
LEAD BY EXAMPLE!
VOTE DART = More County Clout
Wow I do the right thing pay my taxes obey the law but wait I have the wrong Nylon combo vest on thats why i cant be a bass
judge micheal howlett!! was'nt there another micheal howlett years ago; polititian of some sort?
another example of "keep it in the family" ala daley, burke, madigan, lipinski, hynes, cullerton, stroger,etc.,etc. etc.
I've moved south of the MD line, but its the same crap everywhere; throw the scroundrels out!
Howlett is a member of a long time, well connected Democratic family.
The question that I have is what about the weapons charges? Why wasn't he at least found guilty of those charges? Will the SAO appeal?
Let me get this straight?
A high ranking member of the Chicago Police Department's top brass' condo was the subject of a search warrant where her daughter and daughter's boyfriend (who was named subject of warrant) were both present?
Boyfriend freely admits it's his drugs and guns and boyfriend is arrested and girl given some "professional courtesy"?
All this happens to the high ranking members property/family while being promoted as Assistant Superintendent and representing the CPD as the second highest brass member in the CPD?
Then allegedly there was an internal investigation where Internal Affairs (who she commands) does the quickest investigation in history of the department?
Then the Superintendent holds a public new conference within a day exonertaing her from any wrong doing?
Now the offender of the case ultimately was found not guilty where now the property and owner of condo (you know who) is no longer eligible for seizure/forfeiture?
Now there's rumblings of the arresting officer being meriotoriously promoted?
Can any department source verify this?
Judge Howlett is a moron. He won't sign search warrants because he has no clue on the law about CI's or RCI's. I am not making this up. The story is well known in Narcotics and the State's Attorneys office.
I find it more than a coincidence that the worst judge for Search Warrants at 26th and Cal got to hear this case. Shame on the officers for not getting mail or clothes. That is most common way to beat a search warrant. The defendants statement can be useless with a liberal judge. Howlett is not just a moron but a anti police judge. He is polite but still anti police. Any officer who has had a case heard in his courtroom knows the chances are high for acquittal.
So that means it belongs to bea and her daughter. The judge just gave us pc to lock them up since they do live or own the place.
And when it gets dismissed in court the FOP should have a press conference showing how a large amount of drugs in your house won't get you any jail time even with a search warrant which is why there are still shooting and such on the streets.
OT: Hope the CPD recruit who was struck outside his vehicle while attempting to aid a female involved in a separate vehicle crash on I55 around Loomis Street is doing well. The Off Duty Officer was struck and thrown causing a head injury. The "non licensed driver" was given several traffic citations by ISP, but had only dozed off while driving (not dui). A BIG THANK YOU to all the ISP Troopers who looked out for one of our own after this accident on the Interstate. The Officer was talking and reportedly walking after being struck by a vehicle doing aproximately around 60 mph. Now thats one tough Marine!
They could not charge the owner of
the property because the owner is the police !
Imagine the embarassment if it was
revealed that she knew it was a drug
house.
If you didn't see Chicago violence is gonna highlighted be on the NBC national nightly news tonight.
....Maybe the PO was TOLD NOT to collect mail correspondence from the condo by a supervisor...
Back in the fifties and sixties
there was a Micheal Howlett whose
title at that time was " Auditor of
Public Accounts " and paid the
state's bills.
If only we had Jack McCoy, Arthur
Branch, Adam Schiff, or Nora Lewin
working for us as States's
Attorneys we would get some damm
good conviction rates and the
petting of criminals would cease.
Are you kidding? Come on, the dope was in the Play Station when they bought it. They didn't know it was there. And the guns - he bought them at one of those dangerous unregulated gun shows where you don't have to fill out BATFE paperwork so he didn't know they were stolen.
Wow I do the right thing pay my taxes obey the law but wait I have the wrong Nylon combo vest on thats why i cant be a bass
WTF are you talking about? Are you striving to become a fish or a musician?

YEAH - where is the FOP on this????
Afraid to air dirty laundry? Afraid you might jeopardize that next city job?
Where is JUSTICE? They need to start investigating these judges again.

Good to have the right judge at the right time. eh????
Well, take notes, kiddies. This is not precedent. Prepare your self a fall guy if the po-po ever come to your door.
Simple solution is to vote NO on all judges. I have it on good authority that the judges are terrified of the Police after Passarelli (I don't care if I spelled his name wrong - he is a criminal).
There are a few good judges, and we can name them here. As a whole, they need to go. Vote no on every judge, unless you know otherwise.
Is Howlett from that political family?
Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it. You didn't like Devine or Milan, you got Anita and her merry crew.
The Judicial Retention Ballot is two pages long, take the five minutes and vote yes or no. You know the dog Judges, vote no on retention.
Put as much effort into this as you do the odds on the next Bears game.
Yes it is indeed funny. Funny how high-ranking CPD Officials are not held to the same standards as the rest of the non-clouted Department Members are. Actually they should be held to an even higher standard, but of course, in Crookago, Crook County, Felonois, they aren't. Has this Cuello EVER been interviewed by anyone other than CPD personnel? Interviewed by the DEA, States Attorney, etc? I highly doublt it. In the Daley Fifedom, when you're clouted and Politically Correct, you get away with things that others would be fired for. glad I'm gone out of the corrupt City, hopefully forever. What a joke and double standard, I feel sorry for the honest, decent, non-clouted who have to continue to work for the Shitty, due to the Economy or other circumstances. If it was Joe Average Cop, they'd be suspended or down at Call-Back, pending full investigation, or possibly even fired by the CPD Kangaroo Boss court.
The control of the MSM by the Chicago DemocRatic machine is a well established fact.
TRUTH means nothing!!!
Now this makes you, have no credibility because BOTH parties are guilty of corruption. Ex governor RYAN, along with others.
Try and be an adult- we need the citizens to realize we are not all cry babies.
I guess then that it's Nobody's Dope or Hot Guns. It's the Crookago Way.....
liberal judge.
this is bull shirt = it has to do with IT.this judge was payed off and wrong PERIOD.
SCC, More bad news:
"A rookie Chicago police officer who was awarded his star just a week ago was struck on the Stevenson Expressway early this morning after he left his car to assist a motorist in a traffic accident, authorities said.
The good Samaritan officer was reported to be in critical condition with brain injuries when he arrived at Stroger Hospital this morning."
if it's not his then it's HERS! She is the owner of the condo....
Can anyone future lieutenant say "nuisance abatement"?
Now there's rumblings of the arresting officer being meriotoriously promoted?
Can any department source verify this?

He may have been compelled to "adjust" his testimony.
In crook county you can buy your verdict. All you need is the right attorney with the right amount of cash.
The Officer was talking and reportedly walking after being struck by a vehicle doing aproximately around 60 mph. Now thats one tough Marine!

I thought he was in critical condition at Stroger???
Clout rules Free Cozzi
Fingerprints my ass. He made a statement. If we get it printed and find his and his buddy's prints who was over there getting high and playing playstation, the judge would say the extra prints prove someone else could have put it in there. We can't win. Motion to fix. What a fucking joke the criminal court system is in this county. In DuPage he gets 10 years. In Texas he gets 30.
We are the laughing stock of the American criminal justice system.
OT:
Looks like Blago's lawyers made the deal with POTUS Hussein/Rahm for a pardon. Trial pushed back to April 20, after the mayoral election.
Speaking of Blago, where is he? Has he been ordered underground to avoid questions about Rahm and Obama?
For all the GEU naysayers:
By noon today, one team from area 2 got a parolee/gang member with over 500 GRAMS of crack cocaine and seized several thousand dollars.
Also before noon, another team executed a search warrant on a ranking gang member and seized nearly 350 grams of crack/cocaine.
Also before noon, another team arrested a parolee/gang member with sawed-off shotgun.
In this organization called CPD we all have a role. GEU is not designed for dopw's and r/c's unless necessary. But the above 3 arrests are 3 examples, from one area for one shift. And this type of work is seen daily from most area teams. Hopefully prosecution goes well, and 3 bad people go away for a long time. And THAT is the point of GEU.
Expect more CPD coverage from this group of students that you won't see elsewhere...
Judge Howlett was at juvenile court for a short period of time where he quickly earned a reputation as one of the worst judges in the building , being weak, indecisive, too easy and too believing .Everyone got second, third and fourth chances. We were happy to see him go . Now we know where he went.
Howlett . . . Howlett . . . that's not a politically tapped in name. No. Never heard it before. I'm sure he got on the bench because he's a cracker-jack lawyer and the nice folks at the Democrat Party thought he'd be an asset to the court system.
Definitely.
A fellow officer from the 001 District Pat Murray is running for FOP President...Pat is a good guy who helps all of his brothers in blue.....Pat would not stand for the policy of JFED and other exempts who disregard POs rights...
Judge Howlett ruled in favor of a defendant on a motion to dismiss a Felony murder /Attempt murder of several police officers in a police shooting that occurred about five years ago. The gang banger/defendant was in a stolen car, taken in a burglary, committed an armed robbery and then shot at police officers. His co-offender/gang banging driver was killed. Proceeds of the robbery were found on the dead banger's pocket. Reason for tossing out the case is that the defendant did not have access to the stolen vehicle a second time two and a half years later. The vehicle had already been returned to the victim of the auto theft who had to wait four months until the veh/evidence was no longer needed and released by OPS. The banger was released back out in the streets. Fortunately, Justice prevailed four years later, the States Attorney's office appealed the ruling and it was overturned in the appellate courts. The sad thing is that the juvenile offender now 20 will only have to time(If Convicted)till he turns 20. After that he will be released back to the public.

Looks like airports are accepting more coppers,24 O'Hare 4 Midway and that is a 50/50 split so 48 O'Hare 8 Midway! RING)))))) Make your calls boys and girls, fuck it the districts don't need coppers. I called and was told that you need 30 years for 13B furlough and 28 years to bid on day shift! Afternoons hours are 1300-2200 and you stay the full tour,4on 2 off schedule and NO overtime opportunities! Sounds great LOL!
I call Shenanigans. Hey Judge Howlett, a confession isn't good enough huh? IMHO what kind of crooked bullshit is this. Maybe the mainstream media won't talk, but with the internet you can't keep the truth totally shut out. If this turns out to be a crooked case, this is one of the worst crimes possible, the corruption of our justice system. Cuello, you should resign. If you don't know whats going on in your own condo, you don't deserve to be a boss. Weiss what kind of IDIOT are you, duh, THIS deserves a press conference and a feeb investigation
GIVE THE KID CREDIT HE IS NOW A SGT!
NOW U KNOW WHAT U HAVE TO DO CATCH AN EXEMPT DIRTY AND NAIL THEM TO THE CROSS.

Federal Report On Giannoulias Bank Will Come AFTER Election
A final report on the failed family bank of Democratic Senate candidate Alexi Giannoulias will not be released until after the Nov. 2 election, federal regulators said today.
The release of the report before the election could have been another political headache for Giannoulias in the close contest with Republican Mark Kirk.

Judge is right. Its beyond a reasonable doubt. A statement alone isn't enough. Need evidence to cp-roborate a statement, even with witnesses to a statement. The coppers on the case learned a valuable lesson. Make the crook county judges at least work for their fixed calls, don't just hand them an out. Press couldn't say jack about it. Judge made a reasonable call.

Congrats....Pat yourself on the back kid. It was a normal occurrence years ago on a weekly basis for tact teams to do this. If this police dept. wasn't so f%$#ed up, that would be a normal thing you would hear in the districts. Instead you have your tact. teams on special missions and other bullcrap. Good job, but GEU didn't do anything different then cops did 15-20 years ago.

WOW!!!! What about the other 364 days of the year. I am not saying that GEU doesn't arrest people, but for pete's sake, don't go patting yourself on the back for doing something you are paid to do.
Oh yeah....thanks for doing your job.
Why wasnt the lease holder, the daughter arrested?
The fix was in from day one when JFled cleared her of any wrongdoing in the media with 12 hours of the incident.

Nice gun pinch. The other pinches are still JUST dope pinches. Stop lauding yourself moron.
A certain retired Lt. of Police headed up the security for Michael Howlett Sr. back in the day. After Mr. Howlett left office the PO came back to the CPD and miraculously was promoted to Sgt. and Lt. within 5 years. This same Lt. now has as a son, also a Lt. - go figure, assigned to the Training Division. [Lt. P - rymes with bouvine] hint - hint] Democrat - Canaryville politics at its best. Just as an aside the "ole man" was a good guy but it still reeked of Dem politics when he ascended the corporate ladder as fast as he did.
GEU...yea?so? What do you want, a pat on the back?
Its called doing your job junior
If you had any time on this job you would know that was also done at the district level in the past
How???Why???you may ask?
MANPOWER!!!!!!!!!!
And not because we did parolee checks...no need for search warrant or consent to search
GEU, sounds like you had a mission to check on parolees?
Combined with IDOC and state personnel possibly?
Reason I'm asking is that we also do that at the district level
Oh and also when the gang teams were in the districts that was performed in the early morning hours so all the convicts would still be in bed.
So all the processing was usually completed around noon, that's right the processing for the drugs, guns, and other violations which were observed.
Nothing new here kid, just regular old police work.
Stop tooting your horn, get out from in front of the mirror, get a girlfriend maybe...or a hobby.
It's just a your job
For all the GEU naysayers:
Yay that guns are off the street but it's nice to have the free time to plan search warrants. Beat cars can't do that. Beat cars rarely have time to do a traffic stop in between radio assignments. Yes you are given more opportunity to make these arrests so what's your point? This is no help to the beat car or a district that is in a backlog.
For those of you in the dark the confidential section of internal affairs is made up of privledge polictial hacks. They conducted the investigation into Cuello so what did you expect? Just another example of those with clout go to the best places and do nothing right.

You are so right about DuPage! Why? Because even though their SA is a complete idiot, there sheriff is on the ball! They are also are a REPUBLICAN county! Which means if a dumb ass like Cuello (who I happen to know unfortunately, because of my husband, and wow what a great personality she has! NOT!) would have been fired on the spot, for embarrassing Sheriff John Zaruba for having a bust out daughter with a drug dealer boyfriend living on one of her properties and allowing that to go on. And the deputies would have never given professional courtesy to her daughter, they'd have locked her up too. Zaruba never would have stood by her on TV and supported her. He is also an elected official but still, the man's got brains, and Aunt Bea would have been held just as accountable as her daughter and her idiot drug dealing boyfriend. I can't wait until February when they kick Jody's ass out, you FBI queen. You'll fight for a piece of shit like Cuello, but not for your officers who are getting killed for protecting the streets of this city which used to be a great city. Now I'm ashamed to say I live here.

To all my guys in GEU... There are plenty of great arrests that go unnoticed everyday in ALL Bureaus of the police Department. Do your jobs with dignity and humility. Do it for the intrinsic satisfaction of knowing that you did a quality job and made the community a little safer. You do not have to be self promoting like so many higher ups in the Department. Your efforts are noticed and appreciated by those who truly care. Nice job.
Make no mistake about, this article is NOT about the double standard in discipline in the CPD. This article is another in a long line of Medill School bullshit anti-police slams. And now their asshole professor and, with any luck at all, students will be explaining themselves to a grand jury. And hopefully, a federal grand jury.
