Public Safety Building?
We've been hearing the rumors for months now that background checks will be done by a private company, most likely one run or owned by former Superintendent Hillard. Now this rumor pops up and it sounds as plausible as anything else we've heard lately:
- Off topic: I heard today that police HQS will be renamed The Public Safety Building and the fire department is taking over the entire 3rd floor. The city is going to eliminate the personal division and outsource it to private industry. I heard this from a very good source. All pre-employment background investigations will be done by private detectives.
Of course, the parking situation would be a nightmare. Maybe it isn't so plausible.

It should be called "The Hideout"
Source close to the supe says this has been in the works for awhile now. Sounds valid.
And, since when have they worried about whether 'we' have parking, or not? That will have NOTHING to do with the decision.
What a great idea!
Better yet, let's tear down city hall and build affordable condos there.
Let all those important politicians find their own business offices!
Why do the Aldermen need a second office in City Hall?
There is plenty of city land available to build a megaplex of all city departments, especially since we won't be needing that Michael Reese Hospital Land for the 2016 Olympics!
If they are smart, they would start to evacuate 35th St. before it colapses from crappy building codes!
Privatizing and outsourcing are the NEW WAY to CLOUT and PATRONAGE!
RE: The parking situation
No problem!!!
Just have a "connected outfit" build a new parking garage that will probably collapse like the 001st district will.
Amen - At least Ladner would be gone. She runs the unit like a prison camp. She is not exactly Ms. Personality. Regardless the new Mayor will reorganize the CPD, so ideally Ladner is gone anyway along with J-FLED and his cronies.
Well, just look at the names of those that have retired in the past 6 months.
I can guarnatee that those with names easily recogniziable to all are the ones that will be working for Hiliards company doing those background investigations.
old news from what i have heard, why do you think they have been moving people off the 3rd floor. its a good idea anyway, why should the fire dept pay 37k a month to rent space?
Do we have to move Iron Mike again or just put a beer in his hand
Yet, another stupid idea to outsource critical jobs!
While these outsourced job holders do NOT have to live in this lousy city and pay it's unfair taxes!
What I want to know is, what Politician is getting the big kickbacks $$$$ on this idea?
ANYONE? Buehler? Anyone? Crickets?
Da Pelon
Fire and police in the same building? Bad idea to mix them. Just like mixing oil and water. CFD is a functional force. CPD is really disfunctional and broken. CFD has a real leader. What does CPD have? Jfled? Do you think the CFD commissioner Hoff would run from a major fire? Would he say "gotta run"? Never. Even the streets and san boss would stay. Now we are surrendering 35th street. We gave up the streets.
They can do any fucking thing they want to with that cursed building. We all know there aren't many real police working there anyway...
Better install a LOT more mirrors.
If the current background checks suck and they're done by cops, how shitty do you think they'll be when privatized. Expect more drug dealers, gang bangers or pieces of shit to be hire as cops. Oh wait, don't expect too many because we're not hiring anymore cops. GFY Weis
thats true, it was in CO books at least 2 months ago. IIT charges the city rent for fire offices that the city no longer wants to pay. And quite frankly its a good idea. Why pay rent whne we own a fucking building across the street? Let them have a floor we dont need half of the shitbags at HQ anyways
The company is headed up by the old supp as well as BIFF, with those ties im sure the bartender will follow upon retirement.
Tell them to bring some self leveling cement. They will need about 20 yards to level the floor. So when they walk out of a cubical, the chair won't follow you.
Personally, I believe that the CPD building at 3510 S. Michigan Ave. be appropriately referred to as "Fort Fellatio".
The NYPD already has the copyright on "the Puzzle Palace".
You can re-arrange the Deck Chairs on the Titanic a thousand times, but you're still on the Titanic..
No more Fort Fellatio?
I am sure Hillard's security business will get a big peice of the contract. As others have said, this has been in the works for a while.
IT'S ALL COST CUTTING OF VITAL SERVICES TO PAY FOR THE CONTRACTS THAT WERE SIGNED FOR THE 'LIMPICS.
Daley the Lame Duck is lining the pockets of his pals and his nest for when he goes. He wants to cut the costs of the CPD and the CFD because they are the major expenses of the city budgets and the labor costs do not put anything into the proper pockets.
In order to cut the labor costs, Daley brought in Jody as a Hatchetman. Knock down the payroll, keep a lid on the killings and the scandals, the morale and property crimes against the taxpaying citizens be damned.
And so it has happened. Daley and Jody have moved loads of working cops from the payroll to the under funded pension roll and have not hired replacements.
Daley wants more of that so look for this in the future. Daley’s lame duck budget is based on lower labor costs by not hiring for the CPD and more retirements.
He said at a news conference recently that the reason a lot of cops do not retire early is they cannot find new jobs. In another news blurb there is a plan afoot to hire part-time retired cops for administrative jobs in the CPD.
Desk Officers, Radio Room, Citation Clerks and Review Officers may go to part time retired officers who work two or three days a week and collect their full pensions and medical benefits. Maybe not a bad thing and this is done in many departments around the world. In many departments it even extends to the guard forces of public venues like museums, stadiums and airports. The money would be good and psychologically it may ease the shock that one day you are the police and the next you are not.
Stay Safe, better days will be coming once Daley and Jody are gone so Register and Vote.
I have met Dave Bolland and can say that he is a good guy. He is very pro Chicago Police, very down to earth and does not have a superstar athelites mentality.
Privatizing and outsourcing are the NEW WAY to CLOUT and PATRONAGE!

Thank you, occupants of the hero house.
Andy Frain to replace the building security at 35th....nice huh? private security company to guard the police?!?!?! WTF!
o.t... a friend of mine works for the city and was at the 1st dist. today. the walls are caving in and they were tring to fix them. the wall then sank several inches and several large gas pipes got bent bad. the building is not safe... if u work in 001, get out of the building...
Phase one has already happened with the creation of Public Safety IT (PSIT). They moved Lewin and his IT people to OEMC and are moving the rest and laying of the remaining civilians on the 3rd fl. CFD not happy having CPD there in their fortress. Wonder why the fingerprint system and AIRA keep going down? Expect more IT services which we now rely on, to go down more often especially with all the old equipment that is not being replaced.
Does the FBI allow private investigators do their background checks? Absolutely not. This is another round of political crap Chicago style. Let's see who (the connected) gets to do the background investigations and lands the big fat contract. I don't put any confidence in a civilian investigator, they are limited on what they can do as far as checks with certain databases. Now you really can kiss the quality of new hires good-bye.

DREAM ON
Actually The FBI does contract out background investigations. Mine was done by a retired Detective.
"Andy Frain to replace the building security at 35th....nice huh? private security company to guard the police?!?!?! WTF!"
FBI has the same thing at their Roosevelt Road building; a private security company not the FBI Police nor FPS works the gates there.
