Now It's $8 Million for Bail

  • A Cook County judge has set bond at $8 million for a 24-year-old Wilmette man accused of beating his aunt to death with an aluminum baseball bat.

Police say the fatal beating of 49-year-old Nancee Rapoport occurred Christmas Day, only hours after her nephew, Anthony Rapoport, was released on bond on an unrelated assault warrant.

Wilmette police say they were called to the residence Friday after the aunt and nephew quarreled about donuts he was supposed to buy. They say they arrested the nephew on the outstanding warrant for a Skokie hospital attack.

Officers say that after Anthony Rapoport was released on bond, he returned home and attacked his aunt. He was arrested without incident a short time later.
And the attack that he was arrested for previously?
  • Just like Anthony Rapoport, who was given bail after slashing at one e.r. nurse and kicking another while threatening to kill them. He then was given a warrant after missing court; and when arrested for that . . . you guessed it, given bail, after which he went home and killed his aunt with a baseball bat. Bastards are never held accountable. Where's the media attention?
We don't know. You miss one court appearance for what sounds like a knife assault on hospital staff, you probably ought to sit for a while. But you know those judges and ASA's who don't push for the high bonds. Unaccountable to anyone.

Wilmette, rich place, high profile, basically a good boy, various people taken quietly aside in the halls of power and urged to "let the young man get the treatment he deserves," etc.

Maybe as soon as that pharmaceutical company gets caught up with their backlog of the barbiturate used in lethal injections, he will.

One state, without a specific chemical written into its laws, tried the very similar barbiturate that's used to put dogs and cats to sleep and found that it worked just fine on some monster who strangled his cellmate to death as a sort of Gacy-style "magic trick."

So, you see, there is hope for Anthony. The first thing he'll learn in the Cook County jail -- a place that he cannot even imagine -- is that nothing you know is of any value in there.

The sleepless, shatteringly noisy environment (and get ready to eat your dinners sitting on the floor like a dog, as the gang-bangers will order you to do while they monopolize the tables) is a good preparation for the years in state prison that lie ahead in the long, dreary parade of appeals and denials and writs, the slow, halting march to the death chamber.

...and on Christmas, yet, over a bag of doughnuts.

Many happy returns, you psycho. You have now entered a world beyond your ken.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life.

Rapoport here is in Div. 10 at CCJ, maximum security. No uglier sight on a gray, rainy morning, with the yellow sodium vapor lights glittering off as much dripping wet razor wire as you'll see anywhere in the world, the C.O.s walking around by the gate in their hats with the plastic rain covers and their long slickers...

Court appearances will be in Skokie. The preparations can start at 4 AM -- after no sleep -- and drag through hours of being sorted through the famous airless, boiling-hot, or freezing "bullpens" that often have no working toilets or drinking water, before being loaded onto the wire-mesh-windowed sheriff's buses for the trip north.

He ain't gonna believe this.

Today is the first day of the rest of your life...

"Where's the media attention?"

It wasn't an "out of control" (Chicago) police officer. Why would the media even give it a second look?

It was just a regular Joe, so it was too close to home for them.

We need to install revolving doors -- take down the bars, the razor wire, and the walls.

Then, if we hook-up those revolving doors at the jails and at the courtrooms to some generators would could probably generate a few giga-watts of electricity and power half the city.

This would qualify as a green energy program and we should be able to win some federal handouts don't you think?

Don't let this crisis go to waste now!!

Battery to an emergency healthcare worker is a felony too, who wants to bet felony review didn’t approve it and it was knocked down to misdemeanor battery instead too.

Not too illegal. We should allow people to keep them in cabinets, locked up in their homes, if they pay the city a fee to exercise this right. Their information will be subsequently loaded in a database and used for solving crimes with baseball bats, although over the decades, not a single crime will be solved with this database (but it sure is handy for the day the government decides to go around and confiscate baseball bats!).

Yeah, what happened to the assault on an emergency worker is a felony? I am an ER nurse and also CFD medic and that law has no teeth. I have seen coworkers put in the hospital by these assholes and they get probation or nothing. A west side ambulance was called last week for a 300 lb welfare breeder with a sore throat all week. When she was told she would not be carried down the stairs for this bullshit, she replied "I hope all you motherfuckers burn up." so nice to be appreciated.

A few law suits by families against the CCSAO for not demanding bond or higher charges in previous cases might get their attention, or a high profile victim. Until then, more of the same.

Well how about a slight subject change but along the lines of STUPID!! So we arrest a female for a misdemeanor..take her in and process, print and photo..HAVE TO SIT AND WAIT ONE HOUR for princess's prints to clear.. (hears the rub) Prints clear and she's released???!!! So if you're a female you never hit lockup right?? Great system. All males locked up (actually hitting a cell) should be pretty upset that the females never even see a cell!! (unless they're arrested in a district with womens lockup)Oh, how about if the bitch drops dead while we're babysitting because they never go through and intake type questioning??? Less cops on the street..more cops wasting time in the districts WAITING!!

Yeah, Alderman Fioritto may want to resurrect his aluminum bat ban.

I know that this is OFF TOPIC but I decided to post it in this thread so it didn't get lost in the others that had many more responses. I am a member of the CFD and would just like to thank ALL the men and women in the CPD that have stopped by the services this past week to lend your support. Also to the ones they cave thier support even while they worked the services. I thought it would be hard today seeing as I knew both Ed & Corey to come back to work today. But I have had 3 encounters today with you guys and am still hearing condolences from you guys.
Thanks it means A LOT.
We have both had a very bad year and maybe it's good that today is the end of the year. Hopefully 2011 is much better for both of us. Well at least we all know that shortshanks & j-fled will both be gone this year so things are already looking up.

Happy New Years CPD. Stay safe out there.

For the record, been a troubled
"blended" family flophouse for years.

Nobody was trying to save anyone.

In the 'burbs, even rich ones, you run into the family welfare. Someone worth a shit leaves a home, maybe trust fund or other assets, and the mouth breathing remnants use it just like welfare for as long as it lasts.

Oh Anita, your roosters are coming home to roost. Between stuff like this, where your office has proven again its incompetence and the upcoming woes you will have on that assault weapon case. You know the one, where your brief is full of misqoutes and made up SCOTUS references. You should just resign, before you are forced to. Dumbass Chicago political hack.
