Hot Monday Coming

  • The City of Chicago is warning residents of warmer temperatures expected to move into the area for Memorial Day weekend — including 90 degree temperatures Monday.

    The National Weather Service is predicting a high of 71 degrees with a 40 percent chance of showers Saturday. By Sunday, temperatures will climb to 79 degrees with a 40 percent chance of thunderstorms. On Memorial Day, the weather service is expecting a sunny 91-degree day.

    The heat index is expected to reach between 90 and 100 degrees Monday, according to a release from the city’s Office of Emergency Management and Communication.

Instead of gale warnings, the gunfire flag is flying today. Watch yourselves and watch your partners.

After a hot, humid day of knocking down 40 ouncers and domesticating with the family and neighbors, the bullets will start flyin'. I'm figuring at least a dozen or so shot.

Lots of fireworks today, too, but don't make my rookie mistake and think every 'crack' is a firecracker. Those five rapid-fire pops were from an automatic. Never made that mistake again.

To all my fellow TRU and MSF warriors:
Just finished my first tour in 003.
District sucks, coppers are okay.
Only salvation is 003 has the two best captains working the south side.
Capt Johnson fair and kind of by the book.
Capt Carroll without even knowing us treated us like we worked for him forever!!!!!
Both come off knowledgeable and can tell that both worked the street.
At least we have that going for us over here!

Started in the district yesterday after a few years in tru. Observed no difference in performance from district or former unit people. Both pretty much the same. I do have enough time to get days in my new home once the bid is open so I will see more of my family after the summer. I also have enough time here for a summer furlough pick, things could be worse.

OT, Its funny the hate and jealousy, on this blog sometimes. The new guy's hate the old guy's, units hate the districts etc. Here is the deal we all change on this job, our priorities our methods our energy. How about the old guy's help out the young guy's not belittle them. How about the young guys understanding that after a few years on the job the old guys are hopefully a little wiser and probably a little slower than you. Look lifes too short and there is enough stress without adding more bullshit. The only time we seem to look out for each other is unfortunatley if one of us gets killed.

I hesitate to say too much, since this predictive analysis stuff is a complete load of crap AND there no word as yet if we're going to continue to exist without clout boy Goldstein or if anyone else will collect his Commanders pay in his absence.

Suffice to say that although I haven't actually put it on paper, I HAVE predicted every homicide this year. I'm pretty amazing that way...

So, let me enter the data into the hopper:
1 - VERY HOT today;
2 - many 40 ounce cervezas consumed;
3 - Crown Royal cocktails chugged like theres no tomorrow;
4 - many fights over who is eating whose pork chops;
5 - TOO many loud boom boxes and car stereos;

It all adds up to a recipe for disaster! Remember, you heard it here first (and if not, it wasn't OFFICIAL!).

Stay safe brothers.

You couldn't ask for a fairer boss than Capt. Kenny Johnson. I worked with Kenny J back in our old 004 tact days. He was a good cop. You never had to worry about his work ethic, he was solid, dependable. I can't imagine for the life of me why he's still working, when he could have a very nice retirement right now (he's maxed out on everything), but I imagine my old friend is going to cash in his chips in the very near future.

To the new "Fireworks guy" from Tru that now works in 003:

Don't scream in the radio that you are hearing shots, It gives the impression that you or other Officers are in serious trouble. Know your location. When other units behind you clearly saw that fireworks were causing the noise, don't argue on the radio about it when you are wrong. If you don't know the meaning or usage of the phrase "loud reports" and what they refer to, take a veteran to the side and ask them. It's going to be a long hot summer.

You heard wrong. Just because 002 lost the projects doesn't mean it still isn't busy. Only 4 homicides this year, but at least 30 agg batts with firearm this year already. And there were only 7 openings, 14 got posted but that was an error that went "unnoticed."

Beaches from Fullerton to Ohio on the lakefront were shut down due to several fights. Around 1500 hrs Metra came over the zone to let us know that about 2,000 male and female blacks just got off the south shore line, 2.5 hours later they caused enough damage to close the beaches and put an EMS plan 1 in effect.
And no Richie, these were NOT suburb kids that texted each other to meet at the beach.

Cool for you, but I (original poster) have no idea what you're talking about. Haven't seen the movie and don't care to.

In 1983, I was standing outside a project building alone, talking to a hand waver. A woman came running out of the building right after I 'thought' I heard fireworks. She was yelling, "He got a gun." Well, he sure as hell did. And I learned pretty quick the difference between the hollow sound of fireworks and the fuller sound of gunshots.

You definitely have an inferiority complex in relation to MSF/TRU officers and all "units."
I'm guessing you have tried several times, though you will deny it, to get a unit spot only to be turned down.
Stop with the hating and do YOUR job.

Too many coppers worry about what everyone else is doing. I have news for you, PO's do not create or establish "units," they work in them. Chances are offered any coppers take them.

You are the one that needs to get over it. I have read very little in the way of bitching and moaning from the officers detailed out of those units.
